A/N: Hey, guys! In the previous chapter, Little Mac faced Mr. Sandman in the rematch to keep the title, and after a tough fight, he defeated him. Mr. Sandman, however, was so enraged that he seriously injured him. Let's see what will happen now.

Chapter 20: A special challenger: VS Donkey Kong

To recover from his injuries, Little Mac had to rest for a week. It was now the end of April. While the boy was training, Doc Louis joined him. ''Hey, Mac. A special challenger would like to challenge you.'' he said.

''Really? Well, I accept the challenge.'' said Mac.

Doc was a little unsure. ''You must know that he is not human, he is an adult gorilla.'' he said.

The young champion did not expect this phrase, but he was not intimidated. ''It seems that the WVBA becomes weirder and weirder over time.'' he commented.

The coach chuckled a little. ''Maybe you're right. That gorilla may be a bit hot-tempered, but I've been told that there's worse. As long as someone doesn't steal his bananas, he's relaxed.'' He later noticed that Mac looked sad. ''Is something wrong, son?'' he asked.

The boy sighed. ''It's been a year. A year since that terrible event.'' he said.

''Don't tell me you're referring to your brother's murder, are you?'' asked Doc.

''Yes. It was like trauma to me, and sometimes, in my last term at school, I had nightmares about Mark's death. It was horrible, and I had lost one of the few I could trust.'' Mac replied, recalling those hellish months that started after the death of his little brother.

''I understand you. You shouldn't think too much about it, it still watches you from the sky. Anyway, your challenger is waiting for you in the ring, so let's go over there.'' said Doc.

''OK.'' Mac replied. The two came to the ring and joined the challenger, Donkey Kong. He was a male gorilla, certainly a young adult, weighing 362 kg(1) (800 pounds) and was also very tall: standing on his knuckles, he is 1.85 meters (6 feet and an inch) tall, and standing completely straight, he even reaches 2.38 meters high (7 feet 10 inches). He wore only a red tie with the initials of his name on it and boxing gloves in the same colors as his tie. He seemed excited enough for the start of the match.

Mac was ready. ''Donkey Kong, huh? This is gonna be interesting.'' he said.

''Mac, watch out for his attacks. They are not very fast, but Donkey Kong has the natural strength of a gorilla, so if he hits you you could end up in the hospital. He's quite agile, but he can't take advantage of his agility in boxing, so you have to be quick. And don't make him angry, otherwise you'll regret it.'' Doc advised.

''Start!'' shouted the referee.

''OK, here starts a special match between man and gorilla: Little Mac versus Donkey Kong!'' announced the commentator.

Donkey Kong attacked first with a right hook followed by an left uppercut, but Mac dodged them both before hitting him once in the stomach and six times in the head. A jab was then blocked, and the young champion attacked with an overhand, two hooks and an uppercut, which all scored except for one hook, which was instead blocked. Sometimes, Donkey Kong tried to hit with a jumping downward punch with both hands or a cross after rolling at a short distance, and Mac fell to the mat once after just over a minute, but was clearly faster and made good use of his speed to tire the opponent.

''Beautiful demonstration of speed! Little Mac is really fast!'' exclaimed the commentator.

A minute from the end of the first round, Mac hit Donkey Kong in the face with a powerful uppercut, making a small bruise appear on his face. The referee started counting, as the gorilla had fallen to the ground.

''1! 2! 3! 4! 5! 6! 7-''

The gorilla got up and attacked with a post, which was dodged, but managed to hit Mac with a punch in the roll. The two continued to trade shots for the rest of the round, and did not fall to the ground.

''OK, Mac. I didn't think you would have resisted like this against a gorilla, but if you have succeeded so far, I must have trained you very well, huh?'' said Doc, giving his pupil a bottle of water.

Mac chuckled. ''Yup. If I can beat him, I won't believe it either.''

During round two, Mac was now using his speed more than ever, running sideways and jumping to dodge some of Donkey Kong's attacks or by bending his back for a counterattack. He also noticed that Donkey Kong sometimes counterattacked, but it didn't stop him. A right uppercut made him fly away, but he used the pillar behind him to his advantage and hit with an overhand, then jumped to another pillar on the other side and hit the gorilla in the face with a downwards hook with such power to make him fall for the second time. He now had smaller bruises on his belly, while those on his face were a little bigger and were turning purple, and only thirty-seven seconds had passed.

''1! 2! 3! 4! 5! 6-''

''Wow! With a perfect mix of agility and power, Little Mac takes the lead! I can't believe he's really fighting so well against a full grown gorilla!'' yelled the commentator.

''Way to go! You're doing great!'' cried Doc.

Mac noticed that Donkey Kong was getting serious now, as he attacked faster and sometimes chained his attacks together. After forty seconds, he found himself in trouble, and some of his attacks were dodged. After an exchange of blows between the two, the young human fell to the mat for the second time. There was a minute and a half to go until the end of the second round.

''1! 2! 3! 4! 5! 6! 7! 8-''

The young champion got up, and now he had some bruises on his forehead. ''You are strong, Donkey Kong. This only makes me stronger!'' he said, and Donkey Kong replied with a monkey-like sound. He jumped and punched with both hands, and Mac blocked the attack. The two seemed absolutely equal, with a determined smile on their faces.

''Little Mac and Donkey Kong are both very strong, and no-one wants to give in!'' exclaimed the commentator.

''Now I'll show you all my lion power!'' Mac shouted. He let out a lion-like roar and his body was covered by a blue glow, turning into Giga Mac. Then, he overpowered Donkey Kong and hit him full force with a cross. Giga Mac managed to dodge some of the gorilla's attacks, but his slow speed was a disadvantage. For a full minute, the two exchanged many full blows until Mac returned to normal, and both seemed to be enjoying themselves from the meeting. '' This is what a boxing match should be like, I'm getting excited! '' The boy shouted, while the audience cheered, and Doc smiled to see everything. It was as if he lived by emotion, but that of struggle rather than that of victory. Shortly thereafter, the second round ended, and both boxers were tired, especially Donkey Kong.

''You're almost there, Mac! Just a little more!'' said Doc.

In the third and final round, Donkey Kong was clearly slower from fatigue, and Mac was quick to take advantage of it. He accumulated energy and delivered an ice punch, throwing the gorilla away towards the ropes and then hitting him with a fiery punch after dodging a right overhand. The ape barely managed to stand up, but he tried one last attack by rolling. The young human closed his eyes and concentrated, then reopened them and hit Donkey Kong, who was still rolling with a left uppercut, then his right fist shone in a blue light and the gorilla was shocked, knowing how it would end. The Star Punch hit him in the face, knocking him upwards, and he did not have time to reposition the limbs that he fell down with a scream.

*BANG!*

When Donkey Kong fell to the ground, his heavy weight caused such a thud that the ring shook and almost fell, causing the referee to lose his balance, but Mac took off his gloves and grabbed his hand to prevent him from falling. The thick dust cleared, revealing that Donkey Kong was now supine, with bruises on his face, a smaller one on his eye and spirals in his eyes.

The referee was shocked by the result, but announced it loudly and clearly. ''DONKEY KONG IS KO! THE WINNER IS LITTLE MAC!''

''I can't believe it! Little Mac defeated Donkey Kong, an adult gorilla, in a boxing match! It's unheard of!'' screamed the commentator, while the audience cheered.

''It's official, Mac: you're even better than me. The pupil has surpassed the teacher.'' said Doc proudly.

"I don't even know what to say." Mac replied. He then saw Donkey Kong and helped him to get up. ''Hold on a minute, I gotta take something.'' he said, leaving the ring. Shortly thereafter, he returned with a bunch of bananas. ''Here I am. I've got six bananas, we can share them with Donkey Kong.'' he said.

''Excellent thought, Mac! Monkeys eat fruits, including bananas!'' exclaimed Doc.

Donkey Kong was so excited that Mac had to remind him that each of them would take two bananas each in order to share them, and he greatly appreciated that gesture of kindness. When they finished eating, he ruffled his hair playfully.

''Whoa! You're tickling me!'' chuckled the boy.

Mac, he seems to like you! You made a new friend!'' exclaimed Doc, also laughing.

An hour later, the news of Little Mac's victory over Donkey Kong was now everywhere, and few believed it. Many were also concerned about the gorilla himself, but Mac reassured everyone by saying that knowing him better, DK is generally relaxed, and only becomes aggressive when he feels threatened or someone steals his bananas. ''Well, another unexpected feat.'' he said.

''Yeah. Let's see what you will face in the future.'' replied Doc.
