Chapter III: The next day.

Because of Kory´s advice, Raven ended up going to the studio at 8:00 a.m. According to her friend, Gar used to open the studio early. He had told her that he needed Raven to sign the contract papers as soon as possible, and take advantage of the morning to train her for what would be her new job. However, when she entered the studio using Kory's keys, she never expected to find the scene that was now before her eyes. Her new boss was lying on the floor of the lunch area with an alarming amount of bottles of rum, whisky and vodka around him. There was a blood stain on the edge of the table and dried blood on the man's forehead.

"Logan!" she shouted.

She ran beside him in a panic. Without a second thought, she checked for a pulse by pressing lightly on the musician's neck with her index and middle fingers just above the carotid artery.

"Oh my God! he's got a pulse... that means he's just unconscious. But I can't move him if I don't know if he's got a neck injury. "

"Hmp?... Raven?" muttered the musician, slowly opening his eyes as he was awakened by the alarmed call of his new assistant. She immediately turned to look at him and opened her eyes wide as he began to stand up, rubbing his neck in pain from the uncomfortable sleeping position on the floor. "Is it eleven o'clock already?"

"Is that really what you're worried about?" she asked incredulously at the question from her boss, who was squinting while yawning. "There is blood on the table and on your head, I thought you were dead or badly hurt."

Gar looked at her strangely for a few seconds before bringing a hand to his forehead. Indeed, he felt a sharp pain where he had been hit after falling in the early morning while uselessly trying to drown his sorrows with alcohol. At least that blow had helped him fall asleep. Unfortunately, neither rum, whisky nor vodka were having the desired effect of erasing from his mind all thoughts related to Tara.

"You're right, I'm sorry." The sadness in his eyes prevented Raven from continuing her complaints that he wasn't concerned enough about the injury, however serious it might or might not be. "This is a terrible first image I'm giving as a boss."

To be honest, it was true, but she wouldn't be the one to tell him that. She guessed the reason why he had drunk like that based on what Kory had told her earlier. Apparently, Kory's heart broke when she saw his sad mood after his breakup with Tara. Despite all the faults that woman might have had, he really loved her a lot and so it was not surprising that he was this depressed.

"I don't know what you're talking about, you idiot." She made a point of getting up and standing in front of him to offer her hand, the same way he did for her the day before. "You're not my boss, you're my partner at work. Isn't that what you told me yesterday?"

"You're right," he said with a smile as he accepted her help in getting up. "Why don't we clean all this up?"

"How about we go get something to eat first?" she suggested, aware that she was taking too many liberties. But at this point, she felt it was necessary for her to do so. Even if that idiot didn't say so, he needed her help. "You have to give your stomach something to process rather than alcohol. Plus, we have to get something to help relieve your hangover. But first, sit down on the chair, I have to do something about that wound on your forehead."

"At your command, boss," he joked. He obeyed her without complaint, laughing at the snort she let out as she rolled her eyes at his stupid joke. "What do I do now? Do I get undressed?"

Without deigning to answer him, Raven took out her handkerchief and the water bottle she always carried with her. She soaked part of the handkerchief with water and without warning him about what she was going to do, she suddenly leaned towards him. This startled poor Gar, who was not expecting such a sudden approach. However, he soon discovered that her intention was to clean his wound while making sure it was not too serious. Even so, their closeness was upsetting him, because from this short distance, he could not help but inspect at all of the details of her face.

She was beautiful... very beautiful. Although this was something he noticed when he met her, he had simply dismissed the thought as he used to do when he only had eyes for his now ex-girlfriend Tara. Perhaps it was because she was helping him at that moment or maybe, it was because he was still amazed by her voice. But he could not stop thinking that Raven was really beautiful. From her delicate porcelain face, to her incredible amethyst-colored eyes, to her straight, short black hair with purple highlights. From her full burgundy-colored lips, to her small, tender ears, to her delicate and delineated face that seemed to have been carefully sculpted by some renowned artist. As if that wasn't enough, she smelled devilishly good. At that moment, Gar could only identify part of the scent as something that was very much like mint. He couldn't identify the rest of the smell, but he liked it very much and also found it relaxing.

"You smell good," he thought aloud without realizing until he felt Raven stop her work for a brief moment before continuing. He felt so ashamed that he simply wanted the earth to swallow him up at that moment. "I mean... not that... "

"It's lavender," she said suddenly, ignoring the musician's babbling. She made sure she scrubbed away all the dried blood on his forehead. When she finished, she just couldn't bring herself to face him, "Also, a little mint and jasmine too."

"I only recognized the mint..."

"I see..."

And suddenly the atmosphere became uncomfortable between them. Neither of them knew what to say next, as both were too embarrassed to do so while pretending not to notice the other's nerves. In turn, this made them more nervous as neither person knew how to react. Fortunately, Raven's phone started ringing and both thanked the blessed being who had helped them find an excuse to get out of that moment. The mysterious hero who had saved them turned out to be Raven's mother. Usually, she didn't contact her during the day so as not to disturb her at work. On this occasion, she had done so to remind her that she needed her and Kory's help at the flower shop that weekend. Even though those reminders used to bother Raven, at this moment she didn't have words to describe how happy she was to see that message.

"Everything okay?" Gar was encouraged to see that she had been looking at her phone screen for longer than usual.

"Yes, it's my mother," she replied, trying to pretend that that awkward moment between them hadn't happened, "reminding me that Kory and I have to go help her at the flower shop this weekend.

"I can't imagine you selling flowers." That's right, he had to keep the conversation flowing any way he could to avoid another awkward silence like the one just now.

"Neither do I, but she insists that it doesn't suit me." She remembered with a smile as she left her handkerchief on the back of one of the chairs, "I think we should head out as soon as possible, don't you think?

"What?"

Gar could not believe what he was hearing at that moment. His jaw almost hit the floor because of that sudden proposal. She seemed not to have realized what she had just said or perhaps it was just him who was confusing things... he had heard go out instead of head out.

"Are you sure? You don't think it's too soon..."

"What the hell are you talking about? I just told you that you should go eat something before you clean up here." Now she was the one who didn't understand what her boss meant or why he looked at her like she was a ghost. "How can it be too soon for that?"

"Oooh, so that's what you meant," he sighed with relief. Raven began to fear that Garfield really did have a more serious head injury than he thought. "Don't worry, just ignore me and let's go eat."

After making sure Garfield had a good bowl of soup at a nearby restaurant, she took him to a small emergency health care center a few blocks away for a checkup. Then, she bought potassium-rich fruit on the doctor's recommendation and returned to the studio to clean up so they'd be ready for the afternoon session. She forced him to rest in the lunch area while she went over the lyrics of the song they would be recording that day. This was obviously an excuse for not having to interact with him until things got back to normal between them. Gar appreciated this because that way, the silence between them would be more natural.

When the boys arrived, Gar was already well and surprisingly not hung over. He hid the wound on his forehead with the help of a cap and they started rehearsing as if nothing had happened while they were waiting for Donna. When she finally arrived, they did a couple of more rehearsals until they felt they were ready to record. They achieved a better final result than expected, which made Raven earn even more points with the band. The team was still delighted with her and that helped to keep her distracted enough. In the meantime, Gar did the video editing locked in the recording booth, which took a little longer than it should have. He was having a hard time concentrating on what he was doing because Raven was still in his line of vision. He just couldn't stop his eyes from turning to her every five minutes or so.

"Damn it, Gar, focus on what you're doing," he berated himself as he forced himself to look at his laptop screen. "You just closed one stage of your life, so you can't just move on to another one so easily."

As unconvincing as that was, his eyes fell back on his new assistant and freely admired the delicate figure of her female body, with its soft and sensuous curves that encouraged you to explore with your hands. In addition, her bust was definitely much bigger than Tara's without being exuberant, but at the same time was the perfect size to fit in his palms...

"Damn it! Stop it at once," he grunted, shaking his head trying to get those thoughts out of his mind, "You're still upset about what happened and you're confusing things." He tried to make sense of what was happening with Raven, "It's true that she's beautiful and you love her voice, but that's all it is. Besides, you're her boss. If you keep this up, you'll behave like an idiot in front of her."

He took a deep breath trying to internalize his own words and then focused again on his editing work. He knew better than anyone else that for now, he just needed time to get over Tara. He also needed to realize that his attraction to the rude Goth was just an illusion of his mind. He was desperately looking for anything to get rid of the memories of his ex-girlfriend and the pain they caused him. That was all, and he couldn't allow something as banal as that to affect the working relationship he had with his new employee and partner in the band, especially with the good vibes between them.

It would also be good for him to avoid getting drunk from now on to avoid any possible incident with her again.

Well, I hope you liked this third chapter too. In case your answer is positive, then I will be waiting for you next Sunday with the 4th chapter of this short story.

Now, I'll respond to the reviews:

Mr. Ursine: Hi. It's also nice to see you here again. You know, Pomplamoose isn't the kind of band I usually follow, but their musical arrangements are very good and creative, not to mention that I love the singer's voice because it reminds me so much of the singer Dido, all of which made me watch out for every update now hahaha. And don't worry, I assure you I won't give up on this story. Thank you for continuing to read and for your support.

Thatonereader1228: Hey. Thank you very much. It's great for me to know that you're enjoying this story. I hope you liked this chapter too, even though it was shorter than the last one. Thanks for reading and for your support, I hope to see you in the next chapter.

Warning: forget to mention it before, but this fic will not be very long, since the main story consists of five chapters and just now I finish the second of the four special chapters that you will have additionally.

With this said, I hope to see you next Sunday, until then take care a lot. See ya.
