Twins vs Twins: A Friendly Competition
To eat the entire cake by themselves, Fabian and Gideon suggest a little competition and Fred and George agree.
"Shh! Don't make a sound," Fred hissed under his breath at George who had just stumbled into the table's leg.
George peeked over the table's edge and whispered, "Freddie, there's the cake! Look!"
Fred rolled his eyes but turned to look at their intended target. The chocolate cake was the most glorious thing they had ever seen — and it was for Ron's first birthday. The cake had chocolate syrup drizzled on top along with whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles.
"It's so bootiful!" they whispered in unison as they gazed at the delicious treat.
"Get down!" George cried out when he heard someone coming towards the kitchen. The twins quickly hid under the table and held their breaths.
The door slowly swung open and two sets of footsteps could be heard entering the kitchen stealthily.
The twins watched with disbelief as their Uncles Fabian and Gideon made their way to the chocolate cake and carefully picked it up. The almost-three-year-old twins glanced at each other and thought at the same time, 'Are they stealing the cake?'
Before Fabian and Gideon could gorge themselves on the delicious treat, Fred and George let out loud war-cries and leapt at their uncles.
"You can't eat it! It's ours!" they screamed as they punched and kicked Fabian and Gideon as best as they could.
Fabian grabbed George by the back of his shirt and lifted him off the ground. "Lookie what we have here, Gid!" George flailed his arms as he tried to attack Fabian with his little fists.
"I've caught one too," Gideon said with a grin as he kicked his leg up to show him Fred clinging to him for dear life. Fred sunk his nails into Gideon's thigh and scowled up at him.
"You can't steal the cake!" Fred cried, tears forming in his eyes. "We want it!"
Fabian laughed and set George down. "So that's what you two are trying to do here," he said, amused.
"You two are amateurs," Gideon said with a chuckle. "You never tell people you're going to steal something — they'll stop you."
"You want to go halfsies on the cake?" Fred asked hopefully, trying to manipulate his uncles into giving them the cake.
"We can share it," George added, understanding what his twin was up to.
"Not a chance. We got to the cake first, we'll eat it," Gideon said with a devious smirk on his face.
"No, no, we'll tell Mummy!" George cried, grabbing onto Fabian's leg with his arms. "We will!"
Fabian shared a look with Gideon and they both smirked. Fabian cleared his throat and asked, "How about a little competition, eh?"
"What's a competition?" the younger twins asked him with bewilderment.
"Competition means tests — now, hear me out," he said when the twins groaned. "This test is good. If you win, you'll get the entire cake, but if you lose, we'll get the entire cake. Deal?"
"Deal!" the twins said excitedly. They wanted that cake at any cost, and they would have it.
"What are you thinking of, Fab?" Gideon asked curiously, picking Fred up by the back of his shirt and placing him on the counter.
"A simple test, boys. Uncle Gid and I will race you to the orchard and back to the house. Whichever team gets back first wins. Simple."
Fred and George quickly looked at each other and shook their heads. They might have been small, but they knew their uncles were mischievous too. And they were considerably taller than them too; that meant they would easily win the race.
"No, another test! You'll win this!" George exclaimed, shaking his head fiercely.
"Fine, how about another competition? The first one to annoy your Mum the most wins!" Gideon said excitedly.
"Sure, Georgie'll win this — Mum always says he's the mostest annoying," Fred said with a smirk.
"I am," George agreed happily, high-fiving Fred.
Fabian and Gideon grumbled about how their nephews were looking to replace them as the most annoying males in the family. Fabian suddenly grinned and cried, "I know! We'll have a candy eating competition! Whoever eats the most candies wins! Deal?"
"But only if we're on our own," Fred said suddenly. He wanted the cake to himself and would do anything to fulfil his dreams of eating that wonderful dessert.
"Deal! That we can do," George said excitedly. They agreed to meet up in the garden outside so that they could start their competition. Molly wasn't home, otherwise, she would have put a stop to their antics immediately.
The sun shone brightly upon them as they gathered under the large tree in the Burrow's garden. Fabian and Gideon had gone out and bought as many sweets as they could for their test. They divided the sweets into two and placed them on a small table. They sat around the table and looked at the other pair of twins with determination.
Fabian set an alarm on the clock so that they could start their competition. When the timer rang, the two pairs of twins started shoving sweets into their mouths in their haste.
Fred and Gideon subtly spat out the sweets from their mouths as they pretended to choke on the morsels in their mouths. Fabian and George, on the other hand, tried to chew faster so that they could eat more sweets.
"Ugh, my tummy hurts!" George whined as he tapped the table to indicate that he was done eating.
"Mine too," Fabian muttered, placing his hand on his stomach and rubbing. "Merlin, how are you two —" He suddenly caught sight of the sweets Gideon had hidden from view under the table. He cried out, "You bloody cheat!"
"It's not cheating if you don't get caught," Gideon said innocently as he popped another sweet into his mouth.
"But you just got caught, Uncle Gid," George said, bewildered.
"And what are you—" Fabian trailed off when he realized there was no sign of cheating in Fred's case. He looked at the younger boy suspiciously, but as there was no evidence of any cheating, Fred was declared the winner.
"Yay! I won, I won, I won!" Fred sang as he did a happy little jig around the garden before he darted off towards the kitchen.
"Hold on, no! Fred, you cheated too!" Gideon yelled when he saw the stains on Fred's trousers. "Get back here, boy!"
Fred cackled loudly as he sprinted into the kitchen, excited to get to the cake first. Fabian, Gideon and George rushed into the kitchen after him, annoyed that Fred had cheated too. But before they could say anything, Fred gasped and screamed, "No! My cake! My bootiful cake!"
The plate on which the gorgeous chocolate cake once sat was now empty with only a few pitiful-looking crumbs scattered across it. Beside the table stood the two culprits, their faces still dirty with the remnants of the evidence.
"Bill! Charlie!" the two pairs of twins screamed in shock as they gawped at the two oldest Weasley siblings.
"It's his fault!" Bill cried, pointing at Charlie quickly.
"I didn't force you to eat the cake, Bill!" Charlie protested vehemently, trying to edge away from the others.
"Yeah, but you told me Mum made it for us!" Bill cried, stepping back from the table, his fingers smudged with chocolate syrup.
"It's Ron's birthday, why would she make it for you?" Charlie muttered. "You're an idiot, Bill…"
"Ugh! I'm going to kill you for eating my cake!" Fred cried as he tackled Bill to the ground and started yanking on his hair.
"Hi-yah!" George cried as he lunged at Charlie with the same determined look.
Fabian and Gideon burst into guffaws at the sight of the twins attacking their oldest siblings with murder in their eyes. They knew Molly would be furious if there wasn't a cake for Ron's birthday, but they could pop down to the store and buy one for him. In the meantime, they watched with amusement as Fred managed to bite Bill's ear and George scratched Charlie's arms. There was never a dull moment in the Burrow, that was for sure.
