Chapter4-Strangers

"I just don't know anymore Chantel, of course I love but I thought you were dead did you expect to just stop living. I searched everywhere for you contacted friends anyone who could help and nothing" Nicolas told frustration evident it had been nearly a year and a half since the voyage from Vigo, they had caught up and had been trying to start over ever since but to him they felt further apart than they had been those two years.

"You went to see her Nicolas, a friend of mine saw you leaving the Fabregas' a few months ago what exactly am I suppose to think" she questioned equally frustrated even though she had technically been dead she was hurt that he had moved on hurt that he had fallen in love again.

" Chantel that was over a year ago, Fernando and Carolina are friends of mine , I am allowed to visit friends, yes I had hoped she would be there I needed to speak with her about everything."

"If nothing was going to happen then why did you not ask me to come with you?"

"You were out shopping and it wasn't a conversation that could wait either"

"Excuse me, I can't believe your saying this" Nicolas rolled his eyes at his wife's comments

"You cannot say that to me Chantel I am not the only one who met someone else you spent some time with another man and your telling me that I cannot go and speak with Eva" Nicolas told her. Chantel looked at the floor and took a deep breath he did have a point but she hadn't fallen in love with the guy she had felt so lonely.

"That's different" she quietly answered.

"Excuse me what do you mean by that's different you went and had an affair with another even though you knew I was alive and well"

"I didn't go and fall in love with them though you did and then you went to see her"

"Like I said I needed to speak with her and she wasn't there. I haven't been back since but soon I'll have to Fernando is my employer and we'll be travelling in the next few months" he said.

"Have we grown so far apart we don't know each other anymore?" Chantel murmured sitting down on the nearby sofa

"It seems like it once again we are strangers to each other goodness knows that I have tried to forget her believe me but I can't we've both changed" Nicolas took a deep breath he didn't want to hurt Chantel he truly didn't but he had to say it for them both "I think it's best that we split up" he waited quietly for her to start crying again instead there came a "very well if you think that it's for the best we will go and see someone tomorrow and get the papers signed"

"I'm sorry Chantel I truly am but I love Eva just like I once loved you but I thought you were dead and moved on sorry." Strangers that is what they had become from a loving married couple to two people who didn't know each other anymore
