Kundlis and Doshas
Lavender learns about Kundlis and immediately decides to get hers made. What she learns has a deep impact on her.
"Parvati, what's a Kundli?" Lavender Brown asked as she read the latest Witch Weekly's issue.
Parvati Patil, her best friend, looked up from her Divination book and said, "What? Kundli? Why do you want to know?"
"The horoscope section mentions writing to them to gain more insight into our future. The word Kundli is mentioned, but I don't understand it. Do you know what it is?"
Parvati nodded and replied, "Yeah, Kundli is the term used for the Birth Chart in Vedic Astrology. Twelve houses of Kundli show ascendant and planet positions in various zodiac signs at the time of birth as seen from the place of birth. My parents believe in it."
Lavender looked interested and she asked, "So, what does this do?"
"Kundli is the life plan of an individual. All of us have a Kundali, which can help in understanding a lot of things about ourselves, but for that, we need the exact information about our birth time and place. Otherwise, my parents say that our Kundlis give us wrong predictions."
"That sounds so cool! What can we learn from this life plan?" Lavender leaned towards Parvati, her blue eyes gleaming with interest.
"Well, it tells you about your past, present and future. You can learn about your physical traits, emotional, mental, and spiritual predilections, your likes and dislikes, inclinations, and hobbies. It maps out your challenges, obstacles, opportunities, everything."
"Does this tell you about your love life too?" Lavender asked hopefully.
"Of course! People match their horoscopes together to see if their wedding will be auspicious or not. It's a huge tradition," Parvati explained.
"I'm sold! I'm going to write to Witch Weekly and learn about my Kundli!" Lavender squealed as she pulled out a parchment and started writing her letter.
"You'll need your exact time of birth and place of birth for the results," Parvati reminded her.
Lavender nodded and said, "We used our birth times for Divination class last year, remember? I know my time of birth… 20:06."
She jotted down her time of birth and then went to post her letter.
"Oh, Merlin! Look at what my horoscope says!" Lavender screamed before she burst into tears.
Parvati picked up the scroll of papyrus Witch Weekly had sent to Lavender and read out loud, "You shall enjoy a happy and fulfilling conjugal life. You may experience a spiritual bonding with someone. People will be drawn to you. You shall be able to make an impressionable impact on those around you. You shall gain reputation and status in society. What's wrong with this?"
"No, Paro! Not that! Read the part about Doshas!" Lavender sobbed as she pointed at the papyrus scroll.
Parvati read the part out loud, "In your horoscope, the Ghatak Kaal Sarp Yog is present. Due to this reason, the native lives away from his parents since birth. The native does not get the bliss of parents. The native suffers due to the separation from grandfather/grandmother (paternal or maternal). Their married life is painful and disturbed. Their children may remain ill, causing anxiety and loss. The family life remains disturbed; peace and happiness remain absent. His near relatives do not regard him in high esteem. There are hurdles in life and the native has to struggle to move ahead. The native could suffer due to suspension in a job. Despite hard work, the native does not get good results in his business or job. The native may have conflicts with partners in business or there may be a loss in partnership. The enemies of the native hatch conspiracies against him and try to cause harm. The friends of the native try to deceive him again and again. Due to Kaal Sarp Yog, the native has differences with government officials. Due to Kaal Sarp Yog, the native suffers from diseases or injury that causes loss of money and the native may suffer due to debts. The worries and mental unrest do not leave the native due to one reason or other. However, the native also gets a miraculous time in life when he gets acclaim." She placed the parchment down and said, "Lavender… This is terrible, but it's not that bad!"
"Not that bad? Are you kidding me? I'm going to be in debt! My children will remain ill, Parvati! My married life will be painful! What's not bad about that?" Lavender cried, tears streaming down her face.
Parvati tried to handle the situation delicately, but Lavender was heartbroken. "Why was I born at the wrong time? This is the worst news of my life!" she sobbed as she threw her arms around Parvati's shoulders.
Parvati sighed and patted her back gently. "It's okay, maybe the rest of your horoscope isn't that bad…" she trailed off when Lavender shoved the parchment in her face.
"Read the Pitra Dosha!" she barked, her cheeks wet with tears.
Parvati winced when she read the section. "Pitra Dosha leads to an unfavourable environment in the family. It also leads to delays in marriage and having unsuccessful marriages. Pitra Dosh can also cause accidents or unwanted incidents in the family. It can cause delay or obstructions in education with or may land one into never-ending debts. Inherited diseases and prolonged illness is one of the ill effects of pitra dosha."
"Did you read that? Huh? Even that part says something is wrong with me!" Lavender cried, her heart crushed at the thought of her marriage being delayed.
Parvati read the rest of the predictions and sighed with relief when she found the section about gemstone remedies. "Look! There are remedies given too! You could wear a red coral that weighs more than 6 carats. It should be set in a gold ring mixed with copper. The ring should be made such that the stone touches the skin… Okay, this is oddly specific, but you could do this, right?"
Lavender perked up at the suggestion and said, "I didn't read the entire letter. What else does it say?"
Parvati smiled and said, "Well, it says the red coral should be worn on a Tuesday morning one hour after Sunrise on the bright half of the lunar month. Before wearing the Red Coral, one should keep the ring immersed in unboiled milk. Once the energizing rituals are completed, one must worship the stone with flowers and incense."
"I can do that! I'll get this ring as soon as possible! What else is written? What about the daily forecast?" Lavender asked hopefully.
"Your health shall be excellent. Energy levels and immunity will be high. You shall feel robust and free from any afflictions. You will experience joy and contentment. Your mood will be optimistic and cheerful. You shall feel confident in whatever you do. Your mind shall be free from all worries and anxiety," Parvati read to her and smiled. "See? It's all good."
Lavender relaxed, but she knew she would have to get that red coral ring made as soon as possible. There was no way she was going to let her wedding get delayed. Better safe than sorry, she always said.
"Won-Won! Look what your horoscope says! It says that your health shall remain average. There will be no serious physical ailment. However, don't ignore any health-related issues today… Do you feel anything weird since breakfast?" Lavender asked, looking over his birth chart.
Ron sighed and said, "No, Lavender. I'm fine… Just a bit of headache." 'From your chattering,' he thought at the end.
"You should go to Madam Pomfrey immediately! Don't take your health so lightly, Won-Won!" Lavender cried, tugging on his arm.
"Sure, I'll go to the infirmary," Ron lied, standing up and hurrying out of the common room.
Lavender continued reading Ron's chart and gasped when she read the next part. 'Due to Kaal Sarp Yog, the native suffers from diseases many times that causes loss of money and the native may suffer due to debts. However, things are all right later on.
The married life is normal but painful and disturbed. The family life remains disturbed; peace and happiness remain absent on many occasions.
Their own relatives try to cause harm from time to time. The native may sign on important legal documents in his hurry, thus incurring a huge loss.'
She glanced at the parchments Ron had left lying around on the table and cried out with shock. Ron had signed a document from the Ministry, and Lavender knew it would be terrible for him if he sent the form.
She checked the remedies for his birth chart and smiled with relief when she found it. All Ron needed to wear was an emerald set in a gold ring on a Wednesday morning about two hours after Sunrise on the bright half of the lunar month. She immediately decided to buy him a ring to help him succeed in life.
"What's this, Lav?" Ron asked as he peered at the ring in his hand. He felt dizzy at the thought of Lavender proposing to him.
"It's your life stone, silly! It'll protect you in your time of need!" Lavender cooed as she showed him the ring.
"It's nice," he admitted as he was about to put it on.
Lavender cried out, "No, Won-Won! You can't wear it now! You can only wear it on Wednesday mornings about two hours after sunrise on the bright half of the lunar month."
Ron had no idea what she meant by that, but he smiled weakly at her and said, "Tell you what, Lav? Why don't you tell me when to wear it and I will?"
Lavender laughed but agreed, kissing his cheek happily. "You know… your life will be better if you wear brown, yellow or golden clothes too. Those are favourable for you — oh, and also the number 1 is lucky for you over others."
Ron smiled weakly and thought, 'Merlin, I've never met anyone more superstitious than her… What have I gotten myself into?'
Please read and review! Thanks!
