Hey everyone. It's been a while. I changed my username from DancingQueen07 to AmytotheGordon. This little ditty came to me last night and I just thought that I would share it all with you. I will say that it is really fluffy. It is based on the song "Beautiful Crazy" by Luke Combs. If you haven't listened to it yet, you should. The story is Luke reflecting on his relationship with Lorelai while listening to the song. It doesn't necessarily fit into any season but you can put it wherever. I hope you enjoy it.
Song lyrics in bold. Flashbacks in italics.
Her day starts with coffee.
Luke is at the diner cleaning up. He noticed that it was quiet without Lorelai there to help him so he turned on the radio just for background noise. Generally, he doesn't exactly listen to the music but a song came on the radio and it caught his attention from the first line. He stopped cleaning for a second to listen to the words. The more that he listened the more that the song reminded him of his relationship with Lorelai.
"Her day starts with coffee
And ends with a wine
Takes forever getting ready
So she's never on time for anything."
Luke smiles to himself as he thinks about a particularly bad day that Lorelai had soon after they started dating.
She breezed into the diner clearly in a hurry but Luke barely noticed her until he saw her sitting at the counter. "Hey." "Hi hun." "Coffee?" "You have to ask." "Sorry. My mistake. Do you want anything to eat?" "I wish I could. I woke up late and now I'm late for work, but I still had to come see my favorite guy for my favorite drink." He just smiled and poured her a cup to go. "Thanks hun. Kiss." He leaned over to kiss her and just like that she was gone. He chuckled as he watched her go. Around lunchtime, he watched and waited for her to come in but she never did. Figuring she was just busy he just shrugged it off. Later that afternoon, she called to explain how wonderful her day was going. "Hello." "Hey you." "I missed you at lunch." "I know. I missed coming there today but it's been terrible." "What's happened"? "Well…" she sighed. "Michel's in a mood which really isn't anything different than any other day. We've had some guests who were giving him trouble which only made his mood worse. My mother called to yell at me about something, but I really don't remember because I stopped listening." Luke chuckled silently to himself. "And I was really looking forward to seeing you at lunch since I missed breakfast and I just miss you." "I miss you too." "You old softie." "Don't let that get out. I have a grumpy reputation to uphold." Lorelai let out a genuine laugh at his comment. "Tell you what. How about I take you out to dinner tonight?" "Really?" "Yeah. It sounds like you need it." "Thanks babe." "See you at seven." "See you at seven." Luke arrived at her house at seven to see that she as usual wasn't ready. He smiled and watched as she ran around trying to finish. "I'm sorry I'm late. Things did not get better at the inn and I just couldn't get away." "Lorelai. It's okay." She just smiled at him and he smiled back. He took her to Sniffy's, got her a glass of wine, and despite her having such a bad day at work, they had a great time.
Luke smiled at the memory and got back to cleaning the diner.
"She gets that come get me
Look in her eyes
Well, it kinda scares me
The way that she drives me wild
She drives me wild."
A particular moment came to mind and Luke blushed thinking about it.
One day she came into the diner for dinner and sat at her favorite spot at the counter. Luke was finishing up with the last few customers in there while listening to her talk about her day. Suddenly, she shifted when she noticed that he wasn't really listening. She started to flirt with him shamelessly. "So then, I walked into room seven to check on something and I started to think about that one time when Rory was home and we decided to go there to…" He ran over and put a hand over her mouth across the counter. "Oh. So you were listening." She smirked at him. "Yes and I would prefer if you did not talk about our escapades in the diner." "Escapades? Luke, there's no one in here." "Yes there…" he stopped when he noticed the empty diner. "Oh." "Yeah. We're all alone." She looked at him and wiggled her eyebrows. "Still, don't talk about that stuff in here." She just looked at him and went back to eating. He just rolled his eyes and went to start closing the diner. While she was eating she kept thinking about that night at the Dragonfly. He walked back over to take her plate. "Do you want anymore coffee?" She looked up at him and he saw the look in her eyes. A look that he knew too well. "No." She grabs his face and kisses him passionately. They finally broke free and she whispered "hurry and finish" then took off upstairs. He watched her go, decided to finish in the morning and followed her up the stairs.
Luke laughed to himself. "That was a good night," he stated.
"Beautiful crazy
She can't help but amaze me
The way that she dances
Ain't afraid to take chances
And wears her heart on her sleeve
Yeah, she's crazy
But she's crazy's beautiful to me."
He smiles as he thinks about that one magical New Year's Eve.
He still can't believe that she's drug him to the annual New Year's Eve party at Miss Patty's. He went because Rory and her friends wanted to go so naturally Lorelai wanted to go too. He put up a fight, but he knew and she knew he would go. He would do anything for her. Before he left, he made sure he had what he needed in his pocket or else his plan wouldn't work. He stood to the side nursing a beer watching her dance, laugh, and enjoy herself. Nothing makes him happier than seeing her smile. Every so often she would catch his eye and give him a saucy grin. He could always see the look of love in her eyes and knew that tonight would be perfect. She tried several times (unsuccessfully) to get him to join her on the dance floor. "Please Luke." "Go enjoy yourself with the girls. I'm sure they dance way better than I do." She just pouted at him but turned to walk away. He grabbed her hand and pulled her to him. "Come find me close to midnight," he whispered in her ear. He had a plan and truly hoped it worked. She beamed at him, gave him a quick kiss, and walked off. He watched her go with a smile on his face. Around 11:55 the music changed to a slow song courtesy of Lane who was in on the plan. He walked up to her. "Dance with me Lorelai?" "Of course." He pulled her into his arms and they began to sway across the dance floor. As the clock ticked closer to midnight, Luke became nervous. "Lorelai." She looked up at him. "I love you." She smiled. "I love you too, Luke." "15 seconds," someone shouted. Suddenly, he turned her out and when he turned her back in, he dropped to one knee. "10…" "Luke?" "Lorelai." "9…" "Will you marry me?" "8…" She put her hand over her mouth and tears immediately came to her eyes. "7…6…" Rory walked up just as she answered. "Yes." "5…" "Yes?" Luke asked. "4…" "Yes!" "3…" Luke slipped the ring on her finger. "2…1." "Happy New Year, Lorelai." He leaned in and gave her the coveted midnight kiss. The crowd erupted in cheers, but all that mattered to him in that moment was them.
She constantly reminds him that no New Year's Eve could ever beat that one and he has to agree with her.
"She makes plans for the weekend
Can't wait to go out
'Till she changes her mind
Says "let's stay on the couch and watch TV"
And she falls asleep."
He looks at the picture of their daughter he has the diner and remembers a time when Lorelai was about four months pregnant.
She had been pretty tired lately and the inn had been pretty busy because it was wedding season. They hadn't been out much, which really didn't bother Luke but he could tell it was bothering Lorelai. She came up with an idea to go out on Saturday night and was clearly excited about it. In fact, that was all that she talked about all week. Luke was just happy to see her excited about something again instead of being so tired. She had a wedding that afternoon then they would go out that night. Unfortunately, after a hard Friday Night Dinner and crazy Saturday at work, she changed her mind. She walked in the house and he could see that she looked exhausted. She came over to the couch and plopped down. "Hun?" He just looked at her. "Would you be mad at me if I canceled dinner plans? I'm just really really tired. This kid is sucking the life out of me." "No." "You're not mad? Really?" "Lorelai you know I'm perfectly fine staying home with you." "I know. I just feel bad because we haven't been out in like a month." "You know I don't care about that. I'm just happy to be with you." She smiles at him. "You really do know exactly what to say." "How about I heat up some leftovers for us and we sit in here and watch a movie." "You're amazing." "You go up and get comfortable and I'll have everything ready when you get back." She gave him a quick but lingering kiss and headed upstairs. "Have I told you lately that I love you?" she said as she descended the stairs. "No. I don't think so." She smirked at him. "I love you." "I love you too. Dinner's ready." "My favorite words." As she joined him on the couch, he just rolled his eyes at her knowing exactly which words were her favorite. After eating, she began to cuddle up against him and it wasn't long before she was asleep. He just looked down at her and smiled because this had become their nightly routine.
Luke laughed at the memory because eventually they did go out again, but he would always cherish those nights cuddling on the couch more.
"Beautiful crazy
She can't help but amaze me
The way that she dances
Ain't afraid to take chances
And wears her heart on her sleeve
Yeah she's crazy
But her crazy's beautiful to me."
This verse brought Luke back to the best day of his life.
He stood to the side and watched her on the dance floor with most of Stars Hollow. He still can't believe that they finally went through with it. He and Lorelai are married. Every time he thought about it, he smiled, and for once he was okay with smiling like an idiot in public. She spots him and walks over. "That smile looks good on you." "That dress looks good on you." She just smiled and walked into his arms. "Really. You look amazing Lorelai." "Thank you." He kissed the top of her head and they both silently enjoyed the quiet moment together. "You looked really happy out there." She looked up at him. "I am, but I would be happier if you danced with me again." "Lorelai." "Please. It's our wedding day." He sighed. "Okay. But only slow stuff." "Next slow song, you're mine." He just smiled and kissed her before she shuffled off. Before he knew it, she was back dragging him onto the floor. While others were dancing around them, they stood in the middle swaying back and forth. He leaned down and whispered in her ear, "I love you Mrs. Danes." She smirked at him. "I love you too, Mr. Danes." They both smiled when Lorelai saw her dad walk up. "Excuse me, Luke. Do you mind if I cut in?" "Not at all, Richard." He gave Lorelai's hand to her dad and walked to the edge of the dance floor. Luke just watched as they danced, talked, and laughed. He was glad that despite all the pain her parents have caused her in the past, that they were there. Lorelai and her parents had become closer as of late and he could see changes, at least in Richard. Lorelai and Emily had a bad fight about the wedding a few weeks before, but he was glad that they worked it out. She knew how much it meant to him for her to have a relationship with her parents, so she worked at maintaining it. He was so lost in thought that he didn't notice her walk up. "Luke." "Oh hi." "What were you thinking about?" "How beautiful you look in that dress." She just snorted. "I think that is like the fortieth time you've said that today, but trust me, I'll never get tired of hearing it." She drug him back on the dance floor as she made sure a series of slow songs played. "So when do we get out of here," he whispered in her ear. She just slapped his shoulder and laughed.
Luke went back to flipping chairs as the memory passed by.
"She's unpredictable, unforgettable
It's unusual, unbelievable
How I'm such a fool
Yeah, I'm such a fool for her."
While sweeping Luke thought, "unpredictable is definitely Lorelai."
"Luuuuuuuuuuke." Lorelai sang as she came in the door. "In the kitchen." "It smells wonderful in here. We should go on a babymoon." Luke turned to her. "A what?" "A babymoon." He just continued to look at her like she was crazy. "People sometimes get away before the baby comes." "Why do we need to get away? Is it safe for you to be going anywhere?" "Yes, Luke. It's okay for me to go places." She sighed. "I still don't see why we need to get away." "Luke. This town is driving me crazy. I can't go anywhere without someone checking on me, which I'm sure is your doing." He turned away from her. "Or trying to touch my stomach and I just want some time alone with just you and me. It's usually closer to baby time, but I want to go now before I'm as big as a house and you find me repulsive." "Lorelai, I would never find you repulsive." "That's sweet but just wait." Luke just shook his head at her. "So what do you say?" "Are you sure it's safe?" "Yes Luke. Plus it will help me relax which is not only good for me but for the baby as well." They stood in silence for a few minutes. "Okay. Let's go." "Really?" "Yes. I've been trying to get you to relax and slow down for weeks, so if this will help then let's do it." "YAY! I'm going to run upstairs and change then we'll talk more." He went back to cooking while she ran up.
"I really am a fool for her. I'd do anything to make her happy." Luke thought as he put the broom away.
"Beautiful crazy
She can't help but amaze me
The way that she dances
Ain't afraid to take chances
And wears her heart on her sleeve
Yeah she's crazy
But her crazy's beautiful to me."
Luke finished up at the diner and went home. When he got home he greeted Lorelai who was on the couch reading. He walked over to the stereo and put the song on. He found it through one of the many music apps Lorelai felt "he needed to have" on his phone. Before he hit play, he walked over to Lorelai. She looked up at him. "If you wake her up, I will kill you." "I won't. I promise." She still looked at him strangely but said, "ok." He pulled her up and gently and walked her to the middle of the room. He turned the music on and they began swaying to the music. "Luke. What has gotten into you?" He whispered in her ear, "just listen to the words." She smiled and closed the space between them to lay her head on his shoulder. She listened to the words and would smile in certain places knowing that he was thinking about her.
"Yeah she's crazy
But her crazy's beautiful to me
Her crazy's beautiful to me."
Somehow during their dance, he turned her so her back was to him and they were looking at their wedding photo. When song was over he whispered in her ear, "I heard that today and it reminded me of you. Well of us." He always knew how to turn her into mush. She smiled and looked down at their joined hands on her growing belly.
