And here we are with Chapter 8 of Assassins play SAO. Sorry I haven't updated this in a while. Last time, Nagisa and friends met with their A.I friend and discussed the necessity of having a government in this world. This time, we'll be taking a look at Kirito and Asuna. Wonder how they've been doing?

"Hyah!" Kirito yelled as he struck down a Dire Wolf. Asuna was also killing another Wolf. It has been almost ten days since the boss fight. The boss room had been found a few days ago, and Kirito and Asuna were to meet up with other players in tomorrow to battle the floor boss. Kirito had become concerned when he heard how Nagisa and Hotaru had been attacked by a group of pkers, but wasn't surprised when he heard that they had handled the group easily. The fact that they had two beta testers along them probably made it even easier for them to survive.

"Kirito." he turned to his companion. "Will the enemies be the same on all the floors in this game?"

"No. According to the beta test, the first couple of floors are the same, with an increase in levels. After floor ten, new mobs will be thrown at us." Kirito explained. Asuna nodded in understanding.

"I see. So we're simply going to be fighting Dire Wolves and Frenzy Boars in the plains, Venomous Vipers in the caves, and Kobold Sentinels in the dungeons until floor eleven. So, what should we do now?" Asuna asked Kirito who hummed in response.

"Let's go back to town. We should get ready for the raid."

"Okay. They sent a proper scout party, correct?"

"Yeah. The raid group should be pretty prepared."

"So that what happened last time won't happen this time."

"Yep." Kirito sheathed his sword and was silent for a few seconds as the two walked through the plains, heading back to the town. The mobs were in the process of respawning from the mass slaughter that the two did. Both players were at level thirty, and still going strong. Looking at Asuna, Kirito couldn't help but think about how strong she was. With both that and her good looks, she could be the prom queen of SAO. Which reminded him. "Hey, Asuna?"

"Yes?"

"Why'd you come along with me?"

"Excuse me?"

"You could've stayed behind with Nagisa and Hotaru. You could've been someone extremely popular. But instead, you chose to come with me, the dude who specifically made himself out to be the enemy of everyone. Sooooo, why?"

"..." Asuna looked at him in silence before turning away. "You looked like you were lonely. My family is rather selective of who I get to be with and hang out with. So, that's why. Why? Do you not want my company?"

"No! I mean yes! I mean, thanks, I do want you. To come, that is." he said awkwardly. He told Asuna to stay behind with their friends, but he was glad she came along. It also helped that she was really pretty too. What boy wouldn't be happy?

"Hmph. Well, at least you understand now." Asuna sniffed. Kirito couldn't help but compare her to classic anime tsunderes. He never was one for those kinds of girls, but he can't really complain about her. She doesn't try hitting him for every little thing he says at least.

The town was a little empty, with only a few players around. Not surprising. It has only been a week or so, and people have been living on the first floor for the entire month. It'll take a while for people to be willing to move on to the next floor.

"Do you want to buy any new gear? A new sword, some armor, anything?" Kirito asked his friend.

"No, I have enough equipment." Asuna let out a yawn. "I want to go back to the inn and take a nap though. I'm tired."

"Okay. I'll stock up on potions and extra crystals then. You head back to the inn." Asuna nodded and the two separated. Kirito walked over to the NPCs running the town shop.

"Heya kid! What can I do for ya?" the old NPC asked him. An icon opened in front of Kirito. Kirito looked down and scrolled through it. He saw many different crystals and potions. Selecting some speed potions and antidote crystals, he paid the NPC with some of the hard earned Col he got from the mobs.

"Hey did you hear? Apparently someone thinks it's a good idea to install a government here." Asuna overheard some players talking. She was intrigued. A government in the game?

'I wonder who came up with that idea.'

"A government? What idiot thinks it's a good idea to install a government? Nothing good ever comes out of having one."

'Fool. There have been several instances in history where unchecked people only led to something bad. Such as in America where the country fell into an economic disaster.' Asuna thought. She learned much about that, and much more from her lessons. Her mother made sure that she learned much about history.

"Hey you. Aren't you that chick who was with the beater?" she heard. She turned and looked at the people who were just talking earlier. They had mean sneers, looking at her with contempt. One tall bald one. One stout bearded man. Asuna recognized them. They were at the raid group last week.

"How may I help you?"

"We heard that you and that bastard are going to be at tomorrow's raid. Here's a piece of advice. Don't." the bald one said.

"Yeah!" the bearded one laughed. "We can handle it fine. No need for that cheater to barge in and try to steal our kills."

"Hm. I have a question."

"What."

"How is it that Kirito is a cheater?"

"What?"

"How exactly did he cheat? Didn't he simply fight with the available knowledge he had? How was that cheating?"

"I, uh, what?"

"I understand him being a beta tester, and he is superior to other beta testers, but how does that make him a cheater?"

"So, you're saying he is a beta tester?"

"No. I'm saying he's not a cheater either. There was never a single moment where he actually cheated. He didn't hack the program, or anything like that." Asuna pressed. Upon seeing the men's confusion, she shook her head and turned her back to them. "I'll think over your request, but no promises." she walked away, leaving the two to think.

The inn was only a five minute walk away, and when she got there, she went straight to the room she was sleeping in. It was a simple room, with a curtained window on the side, a desk in the corner, a tub in the opposing corner, and a bed in the third. The bed was a little scratchy, but she didn't complain. She was saving money for buying her own house. Kirito told her about many different houses one can buy in the game. She was quite eager to get a house and customizing it her own, better way

"Mhm, I can't wait." she mumbled as she changed out of her armor with just a tap of a few icons and into a nice, comfortable sleeping outfit. She thought for a bit and decided to take a warm bath first. She deselected her clothes and went into the tub, sighing with relief. A knock on the door made her look up.

"Asuna, you decent?" Kirito's voice floated through.

"Don't come in!" Asuna called back hurryingly, blushing. Kirito didn't open the door, but the thought that he might've right there and then made her feel exposed.

"Okay. I'll just send you an item transfer then." Kirito replied. An icon appeared before her, sending her multiple items. She accepted with a thanks through the door. She tried to get back to enjoying her bath, blushing slightly, trying to forget that Kirito could've seen her in .

"Stupid Kirito."

"You said something?"

"No! Go away!"

"Did you hear? Apparently some people are planning to make a government." Kirito said to Asuna a few hours later. They were at a restaurant nearby the inn. The restaurant was decently filled, but the partners had plenty of space for themselves.

"Yes. I personally think that having a government would be ideal for this world. But there are many players who say that they rather that no such government be put in place." Asuna said.

"Well, I for one don't really like the idea of having a government, but I know that it would be important to have one." Kirito nodded in response.

"Why do you not like the idea of a government?"

"I'll answer that, but in exchange, you need to answer me one."

"What is your question?"

"Why do you talk so formally?"

"This is how I've always talked. It is how I've been raised to speak. My mother is very insistent on how I should behave around others."

"Well this is Sword Art Online. It's practically a different world. Sure we have to get out of here as soon as possible, but we should enjoy the life we have right now. Make the best of it."

"What are you suggesting?"

"Just enjoy yourself! Do what you want. Though, try to limit yourself. People who don't try to limit themselves are the reason why we need a government." Kirito said to Asuna, who was silent.

"Just enjoy myself. Very well, I'll try to see if I can relax more. So, can you answer my question?" Kirito leaned forward onto his hands.

"Well, it's simple. I think that there are many bad things that came from people having power over others. Just look at history." He waved one hand in the air. "Napoleon, the Jacobins, and many, many more. But there are good examples of when having a government actually helped the country in many ways. So, while I'm a little unsure on the idea, I can see how it would help. Especially with the existence of the likes of Laughing Coffin." Asuna hummed in response.

"That is a good point. There are many examples of a government being bad for the country, but it was less so the government itself and more so the ones who ran it."

"Good point." The two were interrupted by the NPC who came and asked for their order. After ordering their food, they continued to talk, this time turning to a different topic.

"How do you think Nagisa and Hotaru are doing?" Asuna asked.

"Well, I think so as long as Hotaru and Nagisa stick together, they should be fine. Nagisa is a really good fighter, apparently even in real life."

"Oh, so he learned to fight in real life?"

"Well, if you want the finer details, you should ask Nagisa. Basically, he's a good fighter thanks to the training he received from a teacher."

"I see. Well, I wonder who between us is the superior." Asuna mused. Kirito was also curious. Nagisa is a pro kendo fighter. Asuna is trained in fencing. But that's not important right now.

"Here is your order." the NPC said as she delivered their food. Paying out the appropriate Col, the two ate in silence. After finishing, they left the restaurant.

"I'm going to the plains for some more training. Wanna come along?" Kirito asked. Asuna shook her head.

"No, I want to go to bed."

"You took a nap just an hour ago."

"I don't care." Asuna walked back towards the inn with a wave of her hand. Kirito sweatdropped.

"Well, I did tell her to relax some."

"Hello everyone! We should be getting to the boss room now. Make sure you don't mess up and die!" Artor called to the group with vigour. A few halfhearted cheers answered him.

"Wow. He really isn't as good as this as Diavel was." Kirito sweatdropped. He and Asuna were at the frontlines of the group along Artor and his party. People had surprisingly voted the two to be in the front. Chances are though, it was in hope of them dying. The other parties were rushing in attempts of stealing their kills, preventing them from killing the mobs. Asuna was annoyed by these actions, but Kirito couldn't care less about this. They already have plenty of Col and levels, and while their stats could be higher, their skill is already high enough.

"Okay people! We're coming up to the boss room people! Remember, the boss is almost entirely the same as the beta test! The scouting party told us everything they can! We have a plan, so let's stick with it!" Artor told the raiding party. With a cheer, the group pushed into the room and ready themselves for a fight.

The boss didn't immediately appear, but instead there were dozens of Frenzy Boars. The boars let out squeals as a battle cry and charged, the raiding party charging in with equal vigour. The battle was easy as the entire party had been fighting Frenzy Boars for weeks now, and they were all overleveled. Kirito was attacking swiftly, killing boars left and right with two blows each at the most. He glanced over at Asuna, who was having a similar level of success.

"Here comes the boss!" a player screamed. Kirito quickly turned around. The boss was a giant boar. Kirito couldn't help but compare it to Ganon from the Myth of Selda series. It had two giant short swords, wearing a loincloth and covered in fur. It towered over the players, almost the same size as Illfang, with massive horns to skewer its foes. But Illfang wasn't much of a challenge, aside from the unexpected sword skill, and this boss, named Thresh the Boar King, wasn't much of a challenge either.

Thresh had a simple battle pattern. It would attack with its short swords first, mixing between sideways slashes and downward cleaves, and every tenth attack would be followed with a charging attack with its horns. After it only has its last health bar left, Thresh would switch from the swords to a massive club. All the while summoning a bunch of Frenzy Boars in waves matching each health bar. All according to the beta testers. With this knowledge in mind, the raiding party made a simple, but effective strategy.

Thresh swung its swords downward with a roar, but it was parried by two players with axes and hammers. They were followed with several other players who attacked the exposed belly of the boss. The pattern repeated until Thresh growled and lowered its head. It charged forward, horns pointed at the players. Half a dozen other players charged past the heavies and dashers carrying heavy shields. With a roar, the players were slammed into by Thresh, but stood firm in their defense. Thresh roared in pain as more players stabbed and slashed it. Swinging its swords wildly, it forced the foes back.

"Watch out!" Kirito said as he charged in. He parried one of the attacks, but not completely, getting thrown back.

"What the hell are you trying to do!?" the player he saved yelled at him in contempt. She was distracted by a Frenzy Boar which she blocked with her sword.

"I'm just trying-" Kirito cut himself off. Of course she wasn't going to be thankful to him. He was a Beater. Everyone hated him. That is what he was trying to do. Directing all the hate of the beta testers towards himself.

"Stay out of my way!" the player yelled at him before pushing the boar away and cleaving through its head. She stomped off with a huff. Kirito sighed and turned back to the boss fight. He wanted to join the fight, but decided to simply stay on the sidelines and attack the minions. After about a dozen minutes, Thresh fell with a roar and shattered into hundreds of shards. The party let out a cheer in victory. Kirito and Asuna chose that moment to leave the boss chamber, heading not to the next floor, but instead back to town.

"For the first floor, we needed a month. This floor, ten days. Why was this time faster?"

"Confidence. It's like Diavel said. Our attack and victory on the first boss resulted in a boost in confidence. It made people realize that this game can be beaten. That's why we went through this floor quicker. People are less afraid of taking these risks." Kirito explained. Asuna let out a sound of understanding.

"I see now. That makes sense." Asuna nodded.

"So. Now that we finished that floor, what do you want to do? We can go to the next floor, or we could explore some more of the second floor. There's a quest that we could do. It has a martial arts skill as a reward." Kirito offered.

"A martial arts skill?"

"Yeah. Not just that quest that, but a bunch of other quests."

"Hm. Okay. We should stay and get the most of what we can on this floor." Asuna nodded. Kirito nodded back and pointed off to the side into the distance, and the two began walking to the mountain that he pointed at.

And there we go. Sorry for the long wait, and the mediocre chapter. Next chapter will be longer, and hopefully better. Next chapter will be about Kirito and Asuna taking on the martial arts quest. Let me know what you think, how I could improve these chapters, what you'd like to see, and what you think I should add and/or remove to improve the SAO story. As per the usual, leave a review! If you liked it, follow and/or favorite! Until next time, Azure out!
