Carlos flew to the castle the library. He was done with his book and wanted another one to read. Hopefully the library was unlocked. He tried the door and it was. That's when he heard someone there. then he saw her still stocking shelves. He saw her wings flutter faster. he must have startled her.
Mariposa stocked the new books and decided which ones she wanted to read next. It was late and everyone was probably asleep we're headed to bed. Willa was long gone. not long after Mariposa got her new job in the royal library Willa decided it was not worth coming to see Mariposa cause she was so busy. The library was quite enough that Mariposa could hear herself humming away to her favorite song. it was long past closing time so when she heard the door open and it startled her.
"Did I scare you? I'm so sorry if I did I wanted to grab another book." Carlos flew over to her. He had heard her humming a tune that he recognized as her favorite song. He wondered if it was odd that he knew her favorite song. The heat in his body rose to his cheeks. he just smiled at the sight of the young fairy he cared so deeply for.
Mariposa wasn't sure but she thought she saw him blush and smile. "Oh it's quite all right. I mean you're the prince you can go anywhere you want anytime." She quickly felt the heat under her. Why did she get so flustered around him. She couldn't be with him he was the prince, but that didn't stop her feelings from over taking her sometimes.
"But I don't look at it that way." Carlos pause contemplating his next words. "Honestly, I don't necessarily like being the prince I don't like the way no one sees me as a regular fairy.
She thought he seemed frustrated, "I'm sorry if I offended you." Mariposa stated.
"No, it's just you of all people seeing me as a Prince and not seeing me as a friend kind it is frustrating." He sighed. knowing what he felt inside him when he was around her made him know she was the one.
"Well you are the prince and I respect that." Mariposa's heart sank at her own words. she couldn't help but feel the pain in her heart. She would never get to say the words she wanted. She loved him, that she was sure of.
"Mariposa, I want you to see me as a regular butterfly fairy me being seen as the prince by you makes me superior to you and I don't want that." The words were almost said in way of defeat. He was tired of pretending he didn't love her.
"Well, I don't know if I could but I'll try to look at you as not the prince." She felt the heat again. He was always more than the prince to her, but he was the prince and she was a commoner. Just a year ago she swore she was a nothing, but to find herself on the adventure of a lifetime, and to gain feelings for the prince it made her question if she was really a nothing.
"Thank you." he paused looking deep at her like he was searching her soul, " I want to ask you something, well as not the prince, so you don't feel obligated to say yes"
"Alright I'll try to keep and open mind. What do you want to ask?" the butterflies churned in Mariposa's stomach.
"Would you go on a date with me?" He knew he had to ask even if it was in the haze of the early morning hours.
"Wait what?" She was so confused. Had he read her mind or something.
" I said…" Before he got it all said again, she cut him off.
"I know what you said but are you serious?" Her reaction astonished. could he actually feel the same way she felt.
"Yes, I am." he was kinda afraid now that she'd say no.
"Then, yes of course." She was excited; about as much as he was relieved.
"How about we have dinner together tomorrow night?" He has not wanting to wait and give her time to change her mind.
"Yes, that sounds great."
I thought this was really cute. I will do a one shot of the date too.
