Fainting Spell:

Gajeel checked his watch. He and Levy had an hour before they had to go pick up the twins. He nodded, rolled his shoulders to loosen them up a bit, then turned his hand into a hammer and began smashing down the old fence again. The fence had stood around his and Levy's house for about fourteen years, but it was finally starting to rot. Gajeel and Levy had decided to take advantage of the morning without the girls to tear it down so that they could get to work replacing it. Well, technically Gajeel was the one tearing it down. Levy was picking up the crumbled bits of wood and wire and separating them into piles so that it could be recycled.

That was the plan, at least.

Levy was trying. She slowly trudged up behind Gajeel, picking up the smashed bits of wood. As she shuffled, not walked, but shuffled away, though, bits of wood tumbled from her arms. She sighed deeply as she bent down to pick them up, dropping the rest of her load. Gajeel stopped his work and glanced over at his wife. Her face was pale, her eyes were glassy. She was shuffling along slowly rather than walking with the usual skip in her step.

"Hey, Lev," Gajeel said as he approached his wife.

"Hm?" she asked, eyelids droopy.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah, just a little sleepy," Levy answered. "I guess I didn't get enough sleep last night."

"Why don't you go lie down," Gajeel said.

Levy shook her head. "You can't do this on your own."

"Actually, I can."

"Fine, but you shouldn't have to," Levy said as she collected her armful of wood again, and began walking off again, only to drop half the load again. She groaned in frustration and bent down to pick them up again.

Gajeel's frown deepened as he walked to her side and began collecting the wood. "Nah. You go inside. You're scaring me."

"I'm fine, Gajeel, just a bit clumsy that's all."

"You're not a clumsy person. This is weird. Go lie down."

"Gajeel, I'm fine."

"No you're not."

"Gajeel-" Levy groaned as she quickly stood up, arms full of busted fence boards. Her arms went limp and the wood crashed to the ground. Her eyes rolled to the back of her head. Her knees buckled and she began to collapse.

"Levy!" Gajeel shouted as he caught her before she hit the ground. He scooped her up in his arms and carried her inside.

Pantherlily was asleep on the couch inside, but quickly awoke when Gajeel literally kicked him off.

"Oof! Hey!" the black cat shouted as he rubbed his head.

"Call Porlyusica, NOW!" Gajeel shouted as he laid Levy on the couch.

Pantherlily's eyes grew wide when he saw Levy unconscious, pale faced, a thin film of sweat covering her entire body. He ran to find a lacrima to make the call.

"Levy?" Gajeel asked, taking his wife's hand in his, setting his other hand on her forehead. Levy mumbled something as she opened her eyes.

"Levy, Levy, can you hear me?" Gajeel asked.

"Food…" Levy grumbled.

"What?" Gajeel arched his eyebrow.

"Hungry...gimmee friggin' food…" Levy frowned.

Gajeel's frown deepened, but he walked to the kitchen to find a snack anyway. This wasn't like his wife at all, fainting, dropping everything, demanding food the minute she woke up. She did eat breakfast, right? Maybe that's what this was. Still, skipping one meal shouldn't have messed her up this bad, right?

Gajeel grabbed a banana out of the fruit bowl, peeled it, and brought it back to Levy who quickly devoured it. She dropped the pedal to the floor as Pantherlily came back.

"Porlyusica is on her way, Gray and Juvia will pick up the girls and bring them home," he said as he flew and perched himself on the couch arm.

"Still hungry," Levy grumbled.

Gajeel got another banana that she ate as quickly as the first. This was so weird. This wasn't like her!

She was halfway through devouring her third banana when Porlyusica showed up, an angry look on her face.

"Alright, tell me what happened so I can give her some medicine and go home," she muttered.

"She just passed out!" Gajeel said. "And her skin got all clammy, and now she's been inhaling bananas like they're a drug or something!"

"You're acting like I'm an addict or something," Levy frowned.

"That might explain why you're acting weird," Gajeel replied.

"I AM NOT-"

"Yeah, yeah, shut up," Porlyusica muttered as she pulled a stethoscope out of her bag, put it on her ears and placed the end on Levy's chest. "Anything else odd happening?"

"No," Levy answered. "Just been having a few headaches lately, but nothing unbearable."

"You've been pretty moody for the past week or so," Gajeel grumbled.

"I have not!"

"Case in point!"

"Your heart rate is faster than normal," Porlyusica said as she stored the stethoscope away and reached back into her bag. She pulled out a pen-like tool and grabbed Levy's hand.

"I want to run a blood test, hold still," she said before placing the tip of the pen-tool to her pointer finger and clicked the end. Levy winced as a small needle inside the tool pricked her finger. Porlyusica collected a drop of blood on the tip of a thin strip of paper. Levy began to draw her hand away, but Porlyusica grabbed her hand again and pricked her middle finger.

"Hey, you said A blood test! As in ONE!" Levy snapped as Porlyusica collected another drop of blood on another strip of paper.

"Sue me," Porlyusica retorted as she pulled out two vials of some sort of magical chemicals, dropping a strip of paper into each. As she shook the bottles up Gajeel slipped off, grabbed some bandaids, and patched up Levy's fingers.

"Thanks," Levy muttered as Porlyusica set the bottle down. She pulled out another vial of potion, this one with a small dropper inside of it, and a pair of tweezers. She'd just begun unscrewing the first bottle and fishing the paper strip out with the tweezers when Koree and Persephone came home, accompanied by Gray.

"Mom!" the twins shouted as they raced to their mother's side.

"Hi, girls," Levy smiled.

"Are you okay?" Koree asked.

"Are you sick?" Persephone asked.

"What happened?" Gray asked.

"Well, we're still trying to figure that out, but I'm sure I'll be-"

"Just as I thought," Porlyusica muttered as she held the first strip of paper out in front of her with the tweezers, dropping the solution from the third bottle onto it with the dropper. The paper was turning blue. "Your blood sugar is very low. Those bananas should have fixed it by now, or will in a few minutes once you've digested them."

"That's it?" Gajeel asked. "Just a drop in blood sugar?"

"A severe drop in blood sugar," Porlyusica replied as she began unscrewing the second bottle.

"But why?" Levy asked. "This has never happened to me before…"

"There could be several causes," Porlyusica said, pulling the second strip of paper out with her tweezers. "You may have developed diabetes."

"Diabetes?" Levy gasped. "But how? I've never had it before, and I don't think I have a family history of it. And I was feeling fine until-"

"That's what I thought…" Porlyusica muttered as she dropped the solution on the paper from the dropper. The strip began to turn pink.

"What?" Gajeel asked. "You thought what?"

"Well, the good news is your diabetes should be gone in a few months," Porlyusica said as she began to clean up her equipment.

"But that doesn't make sense," Levy said. "Diabetes doesn't just go away unless it's gestational di-" Levy's eyes grew wide as her voice trailed off.

"Exactly," Porlyusica nodded.

"What? Exactly what?" Koree asked, looking from Porlyusica to her mother. "What's wrong with our mom?"

"She's pregnant, that's what," Porlyusica stated in a matter-of-fact voice.

"SAY WHAT!?" Persephone exclaimed.

"SAY WWWWWHHHHHHHAAAAAAATTTTTTT!?" Gajeel screeched.

PLUNK! Pantherlily fell from the couch arm to the floor and just laid there, staring up at the ceiling. "Uh…uh...uh…"

"Oh…" Gray's eyes grew wide. "Oh...oh my...yeah, so, um, I'm gonna go now. Uh...congrats guys."

Levy's mouth fell slightly opened as she stared straight ahead, one hand numbly resting against her stomach.

"Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that develops in pregnant women due to the pregnancy causing an imbalance in hormones," Porlyusica explained as plainly as if she were telling someone how to make toast. "The good news is it typically goes away once the baby's born The bad news is you and the child will be at risk for the whole pregnancy so-"

Porlyusica pulled two pamphlets out of her bag. "Here's a special diet I'm putting you on. Stick to it! And here is an instructional manual on how to check your blood sugar and what levels to keep it at."

She reached back into her bag and pulled out a small box. "Here's a blood testing kit. And now that that's that, I'll be going."

And with that she grumpily made her way out of the house.

A silence fell over the group, only disturbed by Pantherlily's "Uhh…uuuuhhhh...uuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhh…"

Nobody looked at eachother, they just stared straight ahead, trying to process the news they'd just heard.

Finally Koree spoke. "Sephy…" she said as she reached over and set a hand on her twin's shoulder. "You know what this means right?"

"Huh?" Persephone asked, still too stunned to say much else.

"WE'RE GONNA BE BIG SISTERS!" Koree squealed as she wrapped her arms around Persephone's neck in a tight hug.

"I'm already a big sister," Persephone wheezed from the deathgrip of an embrace.

"A fifteen minute difference doesn't count!" Koree smiled. "You'll be a big sister for real!"

"Not if you strangle me first," Persephone coughed. "Seriously, let go!"

"BIG SISTERS!" Koree cheered as she stood up and began running around the house like a madwoman.

Persephone took a moment to catch her breath after being released from Koree's death hug before turning to her parents. "So...did you two mean to do that?"

"No," both Gajeel and Levy answered in a stunned, numb voice.

"And you didn't plan us either…right?" Persephone asked.

"No."

"Hm. Y'know, I would have thought after surprise twins you two would have figured out how this works."

Gajeel finally broke out of his trance. He grabbed a pillow off the couch and threw it at Persephone. "Oh, shut up, you smart alec!"

Persephone just chuckled as she caught the pillow, but the smile quickly faded as she set the pillow aside. "Wait, this doesn't mean Koree and I are going to have to share a room again, right?"

"Give us a minute to process before we start planning logistics," Levy muttered as she numbly stood up and began to pace around the living room.

"Uh...Mom, are you okay?" Persephone asked.

"I will be, I just need a minute…" Levy said, setting both hands on the back of her head.

Gajeel's brow furrowed as he watched his wife. "Hey, Sephy, give your mother and I a minute to ourselves, will ya?"

"Okay," Persephone nodded as she stood up. She began to walk out of the living room when she noticed Pantherlily still lying on the floor and muttering to himself.

"Want me to take the cat with me?" she asked.

"Please," Gajeel answered.

"C'mon, Lily," Persephone said as she scooped him into her arms and began walking out.

"...bbbbbBBBBBIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGG SIST-"

Koree began charging back into the livingroom, but Persephone caught her by the scruff of the shirt and began dragging her out.

"Nope," she said.

"What? I'm happy! Aren't you?" Koree asked.

"Mom and Dad need space, c'mon," Persephone said as she, the muttering cat, and her bouncing sister finally left the living room.

Now alone with his wife, Gajeel walked up behind Levy and wrapped his arms around her, placing his hands on her belly.

"We'll figure this out," he said encouragingly.

"I know," Levy nodded. "I just...was not expecting that."

"Heh, me either," Gajeel chuckled, rubbing a small circle on her abdomen. "Don't worry, though, little guy. We've always got room for one more."
