The Nonnatus 'team' (as Shelagh and Patrick call them) where on the train to Hilder Lack, Aberdeen. Everyone was talking amongst themselves, sleep weighing heavy as the sun began to set. Trixie, Valarie and Lucille were deep in conversation, Fred and Phyllis where also deep in conversation, with the two nuns talking about the plan. Patrick was quietly reading, Shelagh was looking out the window (whishing that she could lean against her husband and fall asleep, but alass they were with a group of colleagues) when a conductor came to tell them that "Hilder Lack" is five minutes away, but a train has stopped ahead and so we will.
Everyone was looking out of the window when a women outside the window was doing an unfortunate gesture with her fingers, then she mouthed the word 'Coward'.
"Well! I hope she is not talking to us!" Trixie exclaimed, then, much to everyone's surprise, Shelagh smiled.
Shelagh started making wild gestures at the lady. Then the lady did the same back.
"Shelagh?" Sister Julienne questions.
"Shelagh, what on Earth are you doing?" Patrick stifled a laugh.
Trixie, Valerie and Fred started laughing, Lucille and Phyllis just gaped at her.
After awhile, Shelagh laughed, waved and turned around as the train started to move again. She laughed some more at the bewildered faces of her colleagues.
"Gaelic sign Language. She was a cousin Mabel, the lady outside, we had both had a deaf cousin so both learnt it." She stated smiling.
"Oh! What did you say!" Trixie asked chuckling.
She looked quickly over at Patrick, instantly regretting it with that smirk he had plastered on his face. She took a breath, "Well, she called me coward for leaving Scotland, and well I asked her why. She replied saying you left us as soon as you could and you have probably done nothing with your life." Everyone was smiling (except Phyllis and the two nuns who were dying to hold their smile), "I then told her that could never of had a better life anywhere unless I did what I did and I am glad I left. After that she told me about her life and we exchanged inside jokes." She exclaimed.
"My Shelagh Turner! You learn something new about people everyday!" Trixie laughed.
The group got out of the compartment, leaving only the two Turner's.
"Well sweetheart! I think you have a lot to tell me!" Patrick gave that same smirk again.
"Oh, I think everyone will know more about me by the end of this trip! Come on now, the show has only just begun!" Shelagh smiled.
As the Nonnatus group got on the platform, Shelagh and Mabel smirked and walked in opposite directions.
"Shelagh, I am I to presume alot of people here you know? This is where you grew up was it not?" Sister Julienne smiled at the younger girl
"Yes to both questions Sister!" Shelagh smiled
This will be long two weeks!
