Chapter Twenty Four – Panic at the PC
The Sandbox, Fort Lauderdale, FL, 10am EST
Blinky, Summer and Justice watched Hunter get dressed from the safety of his leather jacket sleeve wondering what was going on with the Cerebral Assassin this morning. He was pacing back and forth anxiously rubbing the back of his neck and it was clear to the three spiders that something was up.
If they could talk they would tell Hunter whatever it was that was bothering him, they had his back. They would have the opportunity to show him that they had his back when they went with him to the Performance Center today. Little did the three spiders know they weren't going with him.
DX were prepared for a showdown at the PC today after speaking to ATM who told them the extent Miss Alexander was will to go to after losing ownership of Blinky, Summer and Justice and there was no way Hunter was letting them out of the Sandbox.
He pulled on his leather jacket as Joanie watched him from their bed. He scooped up Blinky, Summer and Justice and gave them to his wife.
"Look after them for me I've got some unpleasant business to attend to at the Performance Center," Hunter said and Joanie nodded. "I love you,"
"I love you too Hunter," Joanie said and Hunter kissed her lovingly on the lips and patted Blinky, Summer and Justice. "Be good guys," he told them before leaving the Sandbox with Shawn, Amy, Alexa Bliss, the Angela Jericho, Remi and RJ Orton. Blinky, Summer and Justice argued from the palm of Joanie's hand. They knew Hunter was going into a fight and the last thing the deadly trio wanted to do was stay home and be protected like defanged tarantulas. "If you guys are making plans to get out of here to go the PC, don't leave without me," she said to them and the spiders nodded.
Joanie placed the spiders on her night stand and headed to the bathroom. She knew Hunter was in danger and she wanted to protect him too. He had been so good to her after everything that happened in New York, if he was in trouble she wanted to do everything she could to get him out of it, even if she didn't have the required Gift of God necessary to do that. She showered and got changed then put Blinky, Summer and Justice in her purse. "You guys will have my back if anything goes wrong,"
After an hour Chyna left for the Performance Center with Blinky, Summer and Justice and the three spiders couldn't have been happier to drive to Orlando inside a hot leather purse.
Performance Center, Orlando, FL, 1pm
Keith Lee, Adam Cole and Johnny Gargano watched as Kenny Omega ran the ropes in preparation for his tryout match against Tommaso Ciampa. He moved like lightning and he was in peak condition and they couldn't help but subconsciously fantasize about getting in the ring with him in front of a live audience. The news that Kenny Omega was coming to NXT was a shock to all of them. They thought he was happy in NJPW but apparently he couldn't stay away from the black and gold brand.
They didn't know he had an ulterior motive for being there.
Tommaso hadn't stopped smiling since he showed up and saw Kenny Omega warming up in the ring. Like so many others in the NXT locker room, Kenny Omega was a dream match maker they all wanted to share the spotlight with. The locker room didn't know their fantasies were going to be just that because as soon as DX arrived the mood in the PC changed.
DX were not happy to see Kenny already in the ring. They hadn't even scheduled his match up against Ciampa. They wanted to cancel the tryout and get him out of the Performance Center before anymore buzz spread about him being there.
"Are you okay boss?" Ciampa asked Triple H as he came up to the ring. He could tell from Hunter's face that he wasn't happy.
"Ciampa could you give me the ring for a minute?" Hunter said and the former NXT Champion looked at Lee, Gargano and Cole delighted.
"No problem boss," he said exiting the ring and gushing like a schoolboy with the others over Triple H locking up with Kenny Omega.
"We gotta record this," Gargano said pulling out his cell-phone but Shawn blocked his hand.
"No recording. This is not something we want broadcast," he told the NXT wrestlers who looked at each other and shrugged, at least they got to see the match and they felt sorry for the number of wrestlers who would love to see what they were about to see right now.
Triple H and Kenny Omega had a 60 minute match in front of the NXT wrestlers, plus Shawn, Amy, Alexa Bliss, Angela Jericho and Remi and RJ Orton. It was a classic and nobody saw it but them.
When Hunter picked up the win it was like thunder in the PC as everyone cheered amazed by what they had seen. As they caught their breath Shawn got into the ring to check on Hunter while Alexa Bliss checked on Kenny.
"That was incredible," she told him pouring water over his hair and he shook it off getting water all over her. "Thanks Kenny," she said sarcastically.
"If I was Seth Rollins your mouth would be watering," Kenny teased her and she handed him a towel before exiting the ring and leaving him alone with Hunter.
DX faced Omega having come to a decision on whether or not they were going to hire him.
"Kenny we didn't want to hire you because of some behavioural problems you had after your first NXT tryout. So what we've decided to do is check with Seth Rollins before we make our decision," Shawn said.
"What?!" Kenny exclaimed still panting, "You can't ask Seth what he thinks, he's a liar. He's the reason I didn't get the job in the first place,"
"Seth's a lot of things but a liar isn't one of them. He was the first ever NXT Champion and it's only fitting that he gets to speak on whether or not you should work here with the rest of our elite athletes," Hunter said. "So we're gonna call him now just give us a minute we'll get back to you after we've heard what he has to say,"
Kenny spat out his water on the ring apron with disdain, "I'll save you some phone credit and tell you what he'll say. He'll say I'm after his spot, that's what he said when you auditioned me for NXT all those years ago, I didn't even know him but I was better than him then just like I'm better than him now,"
"You're good Kenny Omega but you are not better than Seth Rollins," Hunter said firmly and Kenny Omega laughed incredulous at Hunter's comment. "If you really wanna work here you're gonna have to change your attitude towards Seth. He's a cool dude, you shouldn't blame him because he made the most of his opportunity here and you didn't even get in the door,"
"He wouldn't have even gotten in the door if he hadn't screwed me first," Kenny said and he dragged his hand over his face in frustration. "You know what Hunter go ahead and call Seth. I want your top NXT guys to hear him lie when you ask him point blank if he tried to keep me out of NXT,"
Hunter looked at Shawn, "I'll call Seth now, will you calm him down?" he asked HBK who nodded but that was going to be easier said than done. If Kenny didn't get hired today he was not planning on leaving the Performance Center quietly. He planned on making a scene so spectacular NXT was going to have to shut down. He looked at Shawn menacingly.
"I hope you make the right decision. You're a wise man HBK, don't let your business partner talk you out of the biggest acquisition in NXT history out of his misguided loyalty to that jerk Seth Rollins," Kenny Omega said and Shawn sighed. Their decision had nothing to do with Kenny Omega it had everything to do with Miss Alexander and her vendetta against them.
"Listen Kenny man-to-man, I would love to have you here at NXT but your girlfriend cannot be trusted. She hates us and we're already dealing with an angry woman who hates us, we're not about to put our NXT roster through what the main roster is going through over a breakup. I get it she's beautiful but she's also crazy, it's the crazy part that Hunter and I are concerned about," Shawn explained.
"I like crazy Shawn and you're going to see a whole lotta crazy if I don't get this gig. Don't be a dumb-ass, you can't afford to lose another one of your top stars because of Hunter. You've already lost Finn Balor and Bayley, now the Boss is having a baby – a tragedy no doubt considering who the father is, but face it that's a lot of talent not on call. Are you really gonna let the hottest thing in pro wrestling go back to New Japan without a fight?" Kenny said and Shawn looked over at Hunter who was on the phone with Seth.
"I'm sorry Kenny but family comes first," Shawn said as Hunter came back over to them and everyone listened to hear what the Game's decision was.
"I'm sorry Kenny but we're not going to hire you. Seth said you told Alexa Bliss that he thought she had a "bulimic" personality, whatever that is. That was just last week and he doesn't want you anywhere near the NXT roster. Turns out Seth's not the liar Shawn, the liar is right in front of us," Hunter told Shawn who looked at Alexa who nodded that Hunter was telling the Truth.
"You've got no one else left to blame Kenny, you blew this tryout all by yourself," Shawn said to the Cleaner and Amy stepped forward as Miss Alexander arrived with the box in her hand.
Kenny reverberated with rage at DX's decision not to hire him then he looked at Miss Alexander giving her the signal to open the box with his trademark pose from The Terminator.
"Open it!" he instructed her but as Miss Alexander was about to open the box it slipped out her hand and seemed to move by itself.
"What the Hell?" Miss Alexander said as the box seemingly moved all by itself. It was Alexa Bliss who had taken the box from her but she was Invisible so no-one could see her. "What is this some sort of trick?"
She ran after the box but Alexa was on Shawl and she flew high up into the PC rafters and stayed there keeping the box out of the reach of Miss Alexander.
"Time for the chaos," Miss Alexander said and she used voice activation to trigger the mutant trace bugs who ate their way through the box.
"Arghh!" Alexa cried re-appearing as the bugs covered her.
"Alexa!" DX cried out as the bugs tried to devour her.
Amy grew Indignant and she called fire down from Heaven.
"Call the bugs off or you are going to burn in Hell!" she warned Miss Alexander. "You can mess with Hunter but Alexa is off limits, call them off or die right now!"
Hayworth Helmsley arrived with his mother Chyna Helmsley and Angelo Jericho just as Amy was about to use Righteous Indignation on Miss Alexander.
Angelo looked up in the rafters and saw what was happening to Alexa Bliss. His Gift from God had been dormant for awhile but as soon as he saw her in trouble he caused the rafters to shake. As they shook the bugs flew off of Alexa and onto the NXT wrestlers.
"Get them off me!" Johnny Gargano cried out along with Cole, Lee and Ciampa who were now covered with trace bugs.
"What is happening right now?!" Hunter asked Amy who was on standby waiting for Miss Alexander to relent but it was going to take more than a threat to get through to her.
"Give me my spiders back!" she warned Hunter again. "Give them to me or I'll have my bugs devour your precious NXT roster!"
"Here take them," Chyna said giving Miss Alexander her purse. "The spiders are in there,"
Miss Alexander took the bag suspiciously while Hunter looked at his wife in horror.
"Joanie what are you doing?!" Hunter said but Chyna shot him a re-assuring smile.
"Don't worry Hunter, we got this," she said referring to herself and the spiders. When Miss Alexander reached into the purse, Blinky, Summer and Justice bit her hand and she died slowly from the highly concentrated level of venom now coursing through her blood.
Blinky, Summer and Justice crawled onto Hunter as Kenny Omega tried to revive his girlfriend but Hayworth tapped him on the shoulder.
"Don't try she's dead. Only Melina the Miraculous can save her now," Hayworth told Omega.
"Melina, that hot Latina chick from MNM?" Kenny asked.
"Actually she's the hot Latina chick from ATM but don't bother calling her, she only comes out on worthy cases and Miss Alexander is certainly not worth it," Amy said her Righteous Indignation abating.
"Guys the trace bugs!" Alexa said as the bugs continued to ravage Lee, Cole, Ciampa and Gargano. "Kenny deactivate them now!"
Kenny's tears fell over Miss Alexander's face. She had told him how to deactivate the bugs but he wasn't about to help them now that they had killed her.
"If you want the bugs to stop devouring your NXT roster, give me a job here," Kenny said and DX realised their hands were tied. "Also call that Melina chick and tell her to bring my girlfriend back to life!"
"Great what do we do now?" Amy said and DX pointed to their NXT roster.
"We do what's best for them, call Melina," Hunter said to Amy who refused knowing Melina would not heal a villain like Miss Alexander unless she had repented.
"What about tha chick, doesn't she have healing powers?" Kenny Omega asked DX and Hunter called Beth Hardy and asked her to Transcen to the Performance Center. Whe showed up she didn't show up alone; she had Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins with her.
"Hi Bianca, can you please bring Miss Alexander back to life so we can get these trace bugs off of Johnny, Ketih, Tommaso and Adam?" Hunter aske who looked at the chaos in the Performance Center. She looked down and saw the dead body of Miss Alexander and shuddered.
"I don't do resurrections," she said and her braid alighted and she destroyed each trace bug with the light beams from each of her gems. She dusted off her shoulder and the NXT guys hugged her in gratitude along with DX.
"Thank you E S T! Now we don't have to hire Kenny Omega and Miss Alexander can stay dead!" Hunter said and Seth Rollins looked down at Miss Alexander sadly.
"Breaking up with Hayworth was too hard for you. If only you had stayed in Rebound City you'd still be alive today," he said and he touched her face gently, "I'm gonna miss you crazy scientist lady, if it wasn't for you Sasha and I would never have known how good it was to have sex on the bathroom floor of a Harvard dorm,"
"Seth what are you doing get away from her!" Remi Orton cried and she suddenly pulled Seth away from Miss Alexander and the crazy scientist started to stir.
"Seth what did you do?!" Amy asked him furiously.
"Nothing I just touched her face!" he replied as Miss Alexander's eyes popped open.
Kenny Omega couldn't believe it, "She's alive!" she said grabbing Miss Alexander and hugging her tightly while DX looked at Seth like he had just killed someone they cared about.
"You healed her Rollins, my father told you not to heal people!" RJ Orton said coming over to him and standing next to Remi. "You've got the power to heal and you just used it to bring back one of the most dangerous women on the planet,"
"But I didn't heal her!" Seth protested and Remi held up his hands.
"You've got some kind of balm on your hands, like a healing balm from ancient times. That's how she got healed," Remi said and Seth realised what had happened.
"It must have transferred when I was braiding E S T's hair," he said and he looked at DX apologetically. "I'm so sorry,"
DX were not interested in hearing Seth's explanation, they were furious with him, "Save it Seth," Hunter said annoyed before turning to Kenny Omega, "You're hired. Just keep your crazy a** girlfriend out of the Performance Center,"
"You won't regret this DX," Kenny said hugging Shawn and Hunter much to Seth's horror and the NXT roster's delight.
"Oh yes they will, you cannot be trusted Omega," Seth said seriously and Kenny Omega smirked at him before blowing Alexa Bliss a kiss.
"On the contrary Seth, you're the one who cannot be trusted and I'm going to prove it when I replace you as the top guy in this company," Kenny Omega said and Miss Alexander looked around for her trace bugs.
"I can't remember a thing, did you get what you wanted?" he asked Kenny who hugged her lovingly.
"Let's just say Christmas came early, now let's get out of here and get ready for that trip to the Pentagon," he said and he kissed her lovingly while Hayworth rubbed his temples nervously.
"My crazy ex-girlfriend is going out with the hottest free agent in wrestling, how could this be any worse?" he asked his dad who shrugged.
"Good job on getting Blinky, Summer and Justice to turn on Miss Alexander Joanie," he said giving his wife a thumbs up and when Miss Alexander heard him she went for his neck.
"That's how," Angelo Jericho replied to Hayworth's rhetorical question as Kenny Omega held his girlfriend back and escorted her out of the PC.
"I'll get those spiders back if it's the last thing I do! This is not over Triple H, not by a long shot!" she yelled as Kenny Omega got her out of the building.
"See you on Monday boss!" Kenny called back to DX with a big smile while Chyna and Hayworth shook their head at the patriarch of the Helmsley family.
"You're such a Bonehead," Chyna said to her husband.
"Hey I'd rather be a Bonehead than Braindead. Couldn't you at least have made Miss Alexander less crazy when you decided to heal her?" Hunter asked Seth who was still shook over the idea of Kenny Omega working at NXT.
"I didn't mean to heal her, can we talk about Kenny Omega for a second?" Seth asked Hunter but the DX co-founder didn't want to hear it.
"Since when are you braiding Bianca's hair? Does her husband know that you had your hands in his wife's hair?" Hunter asked Seth. "If it wasn't for those hands of yours Miss Alexander would still be dead and I'd be happy. Your high stature in this company is in jeopardy now Rollins and you are going to be feuding with Omega at Wrestlemania next year,"
Seth sighed, the idea of working with Kenny Omega made his skin crawl. Alexa Bliss patted him on the back sympathetically. "At least you're not being eaten up by mutant trace bugs," she said to him while Remi, RJ and Amy gave him a stern look of disapproval. Apparently Roman wasn't the only one who thought he was getting too close to th of the WWE and it looked like he was in hot water with ATM once again.
"Guys I'm sorry I didn't mean for her to come back to life," he said sincerely.
"We think this assignment might have been a mistake. You just cost us a year's worth of trouble Rollins. Working with Kenny Omega while he's dating that Harvard nutjob is going to be a nightmare for our family," RJ Orton said. "I'm going to talk to my parents and see what they think about you being reassigned,"
"Yeah, maybe you need to step back from your duties as God's Prayer Warrior and focus more on being husband and father of the year instead. You can't even follow a basic instruction and we can't put up with that sort of incompetence in this family," Remi Orton said and Alexa Bliss and Bianca Belair got in Remi and RJ's faces.
"If you wanna talk trash about Seth, you do it in front of us. Let's see how big that pretty mouth of yours is when Alexa and I are here," Bianca said waving her braid while Alexa flexed her shoulders as if getting ready for an actual fight.
"Seth tell Bianca and Alexa to stand down," Amy said to Seth who signalled for Bianca and Alexa to come over to him which they did. "We will take your current status as God's Prayer Warrior under review and we'll get back to you after we've spoken to the other members of ATM about this whole situation with Omega and Miss Alexander,"
"You guys are over-reacting I'm on your side remember? Miss Alexander isn't the only crazy woman you've made enemies with, just ask Charlotte Flair and Stephanie McMahon Hardy, or did you forget about them because I sure haven't. I've been praying up a storm just trying to fix the other family matters bothering you guys right now, are you really going to let me braiding Bianca's hair affect how you feel about my work on this assignment?" Seth asked and Bianca showed off her braid proudly.
"He did a really good job too," she said.
Amy and Shawn exchanged glances with Remi and RJ Orton, they needed to talk to the Ortons right away.
Hunter asked Beth Hardy to Transcend Bianca, Seth and Roman back to Los Angeles leaving him and his family to talk.
"I think its time for a major change here at NXT," he said and Alexa Bliss wondered what he meant by that. "Now that we're bringing Kenny Omega in, maybe we don't need to keep as many people on the roster as before,"
Alexa Bliss didn't like the sound of that but she did like the DX family and she was glad they were all safe, the same could not be said for her friends who were in LA with no idea how much resentment of them was growing at NXT. If Seth, Sasha, Bianca and the Shield fell out of favour with DX, it could be end of their run in the company next year and the beginning of a new era led by the greatly admired Kenny Omega. Given how much of a liar he was Alexa couldn't think of anything worse and she had to convince DX that Seth had their back no matter what happened today. That was going to be harder to prove with so much resentment of Seth brewing and judging from the looks on the faces of the DX family and the NXT roster, Alexa was the only one who had Seth's back at NXT right now. She might have been assigned to the DX family but she was still very much Seth's Maid of Armour.
