Fifth Decision
After Haru had been released from the jail-like institution called hospital everything's back to how it was before like nothing happened. Waking up in the morning and going to university at noon til afternoon. Meeting with friends in the evening and studying a bit at nighttime. Her daily life went to its ordinary routin. She also met up with the others regularly again and was very happy that everything was back to normal. Almost Everything. After they had parted when he was sending her home from hospital it's been a few days since she had seen a certain silver haired guy. He hasn't showed in university neither has she seen him at the meetings with the others or hanging around Tsuna's house. The others were also quite worried but since they didn't have much time they couldn't check on him yet. Exams were also about to come around. Therefore only Haru had the opportunity to pay him a visit. Remembering that the others said that he was ill the day before she got out of hospital and that he came the day after to get her she was quite anxious about his condition.
"Gokudera!" Haru screamed standing in front of the door to his apartment after standing for quite a time now while ringing the bell every few minutes. "Are you in there?" She rang the bell a few times again and looked through a window to see if she could find him. There were no traces of him. But she already looked everywhere she thought he might be. After standing there for a while longer hammering with her fists onto the door finally someone came and talked to her.
"What are you doing there, Miss? Making so much noise!" As she looked towards the direction of that voice she saw an elder woman standing there with quite an angry and annoyed expression on the somewhat wrinkled face. Haru didn't want to mess with that woman since she didn't seem to appear like a friendly and cheerful aunty but she still tried cause she believed she had quite the experience with grumpy people and there was someone who was even more grumpier than grumpy little aunty there.
"Good evening!" She bowed and greeted that woman with her cutest smile and a voice as sweet as sugar. Usually that good girl act should work against elder people especially men though. "Could you be the landlady of this apartment complex?" She asked as politely as she could.
"Yes, I am!" The woman answered demonstratively with her hands on her hips and her nose up high. "Who might you be?"
"I am…" Haru thought about it for a second. That landlady should probably be more annoyed if some kid just came to see Gokudera. She was sure he should had the landlady charmed by him. He was Gokudera Hayato after all. He handsome, polite and classy prince from Italia. So she might have an advantage if she said she was someone really close to him. Well, she actually was, right? "My name is Miura Haru. I am Hayato-kun's girlfriend. Thank you for always taking care of Hayato-kun. It's a pleasure to meet you." She introduced herself and bowed again then looking back at that woman with a beam of a smile that no one could resist.
"Oh my!" She squealed out in surprised as her facial expression softened and she finally noticed the shopping-bags that Haru was carrying. "I see. So you are the girl Hayato-kun is frequently talking about? Are you here to see him?" What? She asked herself whether she heard her right or not. He was frequently talking about a girl? He? Gokudera Hayato, storm guardian and self-proclaimed right-hand-man of Vongola tenth? She couldn't really believe it and got really curious. A small space in her chest was beginning to ache the more she thought about it. What kind of girl could he be talking about with that landlady?! Does he already have someone he likes?! She really wanted to know but she didn't want to spend more time on the landlady and just shook her curiosity and that lingering pain away.
"Yes." She answered still holding that façade. "I'd like to prepare a dinner as surprise for him. Could you let me in, please?" She clapped her hands pleadingly with her puppy-like eyes looking expectantly at the landlady.
"Of course!" The elder woman took out a bunch of keys and opened the door to Gokudera's apartment. "If it's for Hayato-kun I'd gladly help. I was wondering if he properly ate since I thought he was a poor student. But if he's got such a caring girlfriend then I've got nothing to worry about."
"I'm glad I could ease your mind." She bowed for a third time and prepared herself to walk in. "Then I'd like to excuse myself."
"Sure, I don't want to bother you anymore. Good bye." The landlady giggled.
"You're not a bother at all. Thank you very much!" She smiled and waved her then quickly went to the apartment and closed the door. After taking a few deep breaths she sank down to her knees and took both of her hands together. "Dear mom and dad, I'm terribly sorry for lying. Please forgive me." She said to herself with her eyes closed. Well only half of it was a lie and it won't be a lie when it really came true. She blushed a little and shook her head. Even if Gokudera said all those things she completely refused him. There's no way that it's going to be true. Well, whatever. A lie is still a lie now. "But… it's amazing! I feel like some kind of detective or spy again." After feeling victorious for a while with sparkling eyes she looked around his apartment and wondered if he really wasn't home. When she asked everyone else they said they haven't seen him anywhere else all day. A slight sigh escaped her throat. Since it's been a few days since she got to see him she kinda missed him wondering if he was skipping his lessons and worrying whether he was ill or not. It's weird but she really wanted to see that grumpy face of his'. "I wonder how he is." She mumbled and went into the kitchen. She opened the cupboards and fridge to see what he's got there. But there was really nothing much. Yeah, almost nothing. She felt a little sad about it but hey, most of the time he spend with Tsuna and ate there. So there's not much to worry about, right? Maybe. She put the groceries which she bought into the fridge and started to cook some food. She asked herself if he'd be happy when he came home and saw her preparing food for him wondering what kind of expression he would make while she was humming and cutting some vegetables.
After some time when she had almost finished to cook the sound of footsteps caught her attention. When she turned her head to face towards the direction that the sounds came from she saw an exhausted storm guardian with quite the messy hair.
"What are you doing here, stupid woman?" He asked her with a very hoarse voice that held a bit of surprise. "Or rather how… did you get in here in first place?" He tried to shout but he could only bring out a small voice and coughed.
"Gokudera!" So he actually was at home. As weak as he looked at that moment she quickly dashed to him to support him guiding him to his couch. "Sit down first and drink some water!" Haru said and brought him a glass with water. Then she put her hand on his forehead to check his temperature. "Seems like you have a slight fever. Gokudera, you look really awful…"
"Thank you for reminding me about that…" He answered ironically chuckling to that and tried to gulp down the liquid. "So why're you here?"
"Aren't you angry? Don't you want to shout at me first?" Haru was very surprised that he seemed so calm and composed. She'd have bet that he'd shout at her the moment he saw her with a voice too loud to bear. He must be pretty sick so it seemed.
"Right now I don't have the strength to so I'll do it later. Be prepared." He pinched her cheek and grinned tiredly to not worry her too much. She could feel that so she smiled back at him for a moment. "Now tell me."
"I was quite worried about you so I came to check on you." She explained sitting down next to him. "And the landlady let me in cause I made quite a lot of noise. I am surprised that you didn't noticed me even though you were here the whole time." She thought she'd better leave out the part where she said that she was his girlfriend. But sooner or later he might hear it from the landlady herself. So her choices were being yelled at now or being yelled at later. Well, his condition wasn't the best at this moment. It's kind of unfair to fight against a weakened enemy. So she decided to get yelled at later. "You know, I was really loud!"
"I was sleeping and didn't hear a thing…" He scratched his lightly reddened cheek trying to inch a little away from her. He wasn't sure whether he was smelling weird or not. After all he's been lying in bed for quite a few days. Too weak and too lazy to do anything. And she has the bad habit of getting too close to someone while talking with them. So he didn't want her to think he's disgusting or anything. "You didn't have to force yourself to come…" And see him in such an uncool and miserable state he thought. Hiding his mouth with his hands he coughed. "You might catch my cold."
"That doesn't matter." Haru almost shouted. How could he think that she was forcing herself? They are friends! Friends naturally support each other. She felt somewhat sad that he didn't thought so. He must have not yet experience friendship that much that he can trust in unconditional support of others. After all he is had grown up in such an environment… Haru will show him friendship! "Go and take a good rest! I'll take care of you." She wrapped him into a blanket that was lying on the couch and went back to the kitchen. "I prepared some easy-to-eat-food so be a good boy and listen to what others say."
"Thanks… but you really didn't have to…" He tried to say it loud enough for her to hear it to the kitchen but his voice couldn't bring out much when his throat was hurting and dry.
"Of course! You're my friend after all. If the others didn't had to study for the exams they'd also come to see you." She brought a tray with food and tea into the living room and put it on the table in front of the couch. "When it cools down a bit try to eat some."
"I see…" He whispered. So she's doing this only as a 'friend'? He asked himself staring blankly at that tray in front of him.
"At times like this…" Haru unconsciously took his hand in hers and lightly smiled at him. "It's okay to depend on others, don't you think?" He could only stare at her with widened eyes not knowing what to say. "I-I mean when you've got troubles just tell us and we'll come to your aid and such… It's not embarrassing at all… to be sick and be helped by your friends. You see?" She hastily let go of his hand again as she realized what she was doing.
"You've… helped me far more than enough already…" She really is always like that. Always meddling with him. Always trying to be of use and helping others. Always, always messing up his mind. Sometimes he thought if she'd just leave him alone he may be better off. But on the other side he couldn't imagine how it'd be without her around. Pretty boring he guessed. Pretty empty. And kinda sad. He wanted to return all the kindness she had showed towards him. But how was he able to do that he wondered. "I don't know… how to repay you at all." He mumbled.
"You don't need to!" Haru shouted out without thinking. "That's what friends are. You don't need to repay the kindness of the other party right away… little by little it will be balanced by itself. It's that giving and taking stuff that naturally happens and so on." He is surely thinking about that incident. He surely wants to show his gratitude for everything she did. But for Haru that is unnecessary since they're friends. Since they're family. It's only natural to support each other. "Since… you're also supporting me so much which you may not have realized." She said with a kind voice and gave him a gentle smile. "There's nothing you need to do for me and nothing you need to feel bad about." Because doing this kind of thing. She also selfishly does it for herself.
