On with the story.
(Muir Woods)
It had been about five hours since Byron and his mother's little confrontation and the night was going exactly like he thought it would. His mother and a whole lot of other adults around the camp were drunk.
Byron was sitting next to his mother who was laughing and chatting with some of her friends. He just sat there slumped over while he drifted in and out of a light sleep. The hard day's worked and having to sit around annoying and drunk people had taken a lot out of him, but at least he didn't slit his wrists. That was good.
The young mutant's intoxicated mother looked at him and noticed how tired he looked.
"Aww, is mommy's little baby tired?" slurred Psylocke while letting out a few drunk giggles.
The boy flashed her an annoyed glare before letting out a big yawn.
"Yes, tired and annoyed, I wanna go to bed." answered the raven haired boy in a huff while stretching his arms out.
The women sighed before getting out her seat and using the table to keep herself standing.
"Well guys, the boss has spoken, time to clock out." slurred the black and purple haired mutant as she kept herself steady with the table.
"Weak, this brat made you weak Psy." slurred Spike as he used a bone stake to gesture to Byron.
Byron could feel it again, he was starting to get angry like he did earlier.
"So you wanna talk crap about me?" sneered the boy as a lighting blade formed in his left hand.
Some of the others at the table tensed up, not expecting the boy to react this way, but also knowing that their friend once again messed with someone that was out his league.
Psylocke became worried and put her hand on the boy's shoulder.
"Okay baby, cut it out now." said the black and purple haired mutant with a worried frown, having been sobered up quite a bit by her son's actions.
The boy violently shrugged his mother's hand off of his shoulder.
"Stay out of this." growled the boy while giving the woman a death glare.
"Woah, easy there kid, let's not make any rash decisions, I know you're angry and us grown ups have had a bit much to drink, so let's all just calm down okay." said Quill, trying to defuse the situation.
The boy turned his lightning blade to the tattooed asian american mutant.
"And what if I don't, will my mom beat the hell out of me like the last time I talked back at you?" asked the boy with a snarl.
The black and purple haired mutant looked down in shame and guilt.
The raven haired boy looked over at his mother.
"Oh, don't worry, by tomorrow morning you'll be sobered up and then you can stop pretending that you care about me, so don't waste your drunk fake sadness on me." spat the boy, his anger not diminishing one bit.
On the inside, Byron knew that he was acting irrationally, but now that he'd started, he didn't want to stop. It felt good to finally vent about some of the stuff that had been pissing him off in the last while.
The boy's words must've stung, because his mother looked like someone had driven a knife through her heart and twisted it over and over again.
Byron noticed this, but instead of stopping, he went ahead, enjoying the fact that his mother was finally getting some of her own medicine.
"You're a terrible person and an even worse mother. Women like you don't deserve children. You treat your only child like a piece of garbage. I've always kinda thought that it was a miracle that I don't have any siblings with the way you act and now I see that I was right, because I wouldn't want any brother or sister to grow up like I have, I'd kill them before I'd let that happen." seethed the boy, his hatred now flowing like a river.
Everyone was gobsmacked by the boy's hateful words and his mother seemed even more heartbroken than before.
"Another thing that pisses me the hell off are those damn kids that follow me around like I'm the mutant Jesus or something. Their attempts to make friends with me are pathetic. I'd never be friends with those little tyrants. They think they will rule humanity one day, hah, it will be a cold day in hell before I let that happen." sneered the boy.
The boy gave everyone one last glare before deactivating his powers and his face took on a neutral expression.
"I won't waste my breath on you people any further since it will do no good, but what I will tell you is that when this whole cure business is over, I'm gone." said the boy blankly before walking away to his tent leaving his heartbroken mother and her teamates behind, not even bothering to look back.
About an hour later Byron was laying in his tent unable to sleep even though he was dead tired.
He thought about what he'd do after he left, he didn't exactly have any useful skills, not anything that could get him a decent job. Besides, he doubted there were job openings for eleven year old mutant boys unless it was as a drug runner or something and he really didn't feel like doing stuff like that. He started thinking that maybe he could become a begger. Yeah, being a hobo might be a bit better than being a drug dealer, but then again, he didn't feel like begging people for money. He'd need to think of something though.
Byron's thinking was interrupted when he heard his tent zip open.
He looked up and saw his mother's silhouette. His tent was in an area of the camp that most of the mutants slept and it was past midnight, so the only light that was currently in the area were the odd nightlight or two and a few lanterns and campfires. It was still mostly dark in his tent so he couldn't completely make out his mother's features, but he could tell that it was her.
"Baby?" asked the black and purple haired mutant as she sniffled.
It sounded like the black and purple haired mutant had been crying due to the sniffles and small hiccups that could be heard coming from her.
"Yes?" huffed the raven haired boy.
The black and purple haired mutant moved a bit closer to the boy and lied down next to him.
"Did you really mean what you said about me and about leaving?" asked the woman.
The boy turned to his mother and activated his powers, making his hand glow blue slightly to see if he would be able to see her face better now that she was next to him and sure enough he see some tears and some of her makeup staining her face.
"I don't stutter when I spoke, so yeah, I meant every word I said." answered the boy bluntly.
The black and purple haired mutant started trying to think of something to say to try and change the boy's mind, but couldn't come up with anything.
"But...but..." tried the woman before being silenced by the boy.
"No buts about it, every scar on my body is a decision that you made and now I've made my decision so deal with it." said the boy, his tone remaining blunt.
The black and purple haired mutant became desperate at this and grabbed the boy's left arm a little bit harder than she intended to.
"Please baby, you can't leave, what about..." the woman trailed .
The boy plucked his arm free of his mother's grib.
"If you keep this up, who knows, maybe I'll be gone even faster than you think." challenged the boy with a smirk.
"You're eleven and you don't know what it's like to live on the streets so you shouldn't be on your own. I won't let you go and even if you manage to get away, Callisto will find you." said the black and purple haired mutant, hoping it would discourage the boy.
The boy's smirk didn't falter though.
"We'll see mother, we'll see." said the boy as he seemingly drifted off into sleep.
The black and purple haired mutant didn't know why, but those words gave her a bad feeling.
I know that this chapter was probably boring, but don't worry, the action will pick up soon.
I plan to post another chapter tomorrow, so look forward to it.
Do you guys and girls think that Byron and his mom should try to patch things up?
Should I should let some of the people that died in the last stand live, or should I stick with the canon on that?
Let me know what you think.
