Chapter 28

"–Mrs Mustang?"

Riza snapped out of her mindless thoughts and looked up from her fidgeting fingers to the nurse who stood beside her, a concerned expression displayed across her features. She blinked, then gave an embarrassed smile. "Yes, sorry."

The nurse returned the smile with a nod. "Doctor Bailey is waiting, ma'am"

"Thank you."

The First Lady got up from her seat and followed the nurse, who guided her across the hall to the doctor's room. She knocked on the door, and opened it for Riza to enter the room.

"Good morning, Mrs Mustang." The doctor stood and greeted her, "Please have a seat."

"Thank you. Good morning, Doctor Bailey." Riza responded and sat. Her heart started to race when she properly faced the doctor, and she mentally scolded herself. She heaved a deep breath, her brows furrowed to a light frown.

In contrast, the doctor carried a joyful smile on her lips. She could tell Riza was nervous – it was a very normal and common reaction.

"The blood and urine test results are back, Ma'am."

Riza nodded, her honey hazel eyes staring intensively into the doctor's.

She smiled warmly, her tone gentle and merry. "Congratulations, Mrs Mustang."

"I'm sorry for being late, Roy. Have I kept you waiting?"

"It's okay, Riza." The raven-haired Führer took his wife's hands, and reassured. "Is everything alright?"

She nodded, then tugged on his hand when she noticed curious bystanders staring at them. "Let's just get on the train now."

The Fuhrer looked around, chuckling, then took her hand and placed it around his arm. "Right."

They settled down in their cabin after putting their light luggage away, and sat opposite to each other.

"So how was your day?" He asked casually, observing her with a light smile. "I'm lucky that there aren't much to do at the Headquarters today."

She let out a light laugh, "I hope it's not because you pushed all the work to the boys."

He pouted, "Is that the impression I leave you?"

Riza shrugged with her eyes on her lap, the smile remaining on her pink lips. He wrapped his warm palm around her relatively smaller hand, and she glanced up at him to see his dark brows shaped into a light frown.

He quirked a brow up, something wrong?

She stared at him, her sight focused on his onyx eyes. She returned the grip on his hands as her smile widened slightly, and she moved to sit next to him. "There's something I have to tell you."

He wore a confused expression, not knowing whether to be worried or not after seeing her nervous smile. "What is it?"

The blonde woman chuckled, reaching a hand up to rub his forehead with her thumb, trying to soothe his frown out. "I suppose I'll tell you later. This is something I have to report to mother and father as well."

"No, please, Riza." He tightened his grasp on her hands as he urged, "Tell me."

"I promise I will. Though I thought I have made it fairly obvious." She pulled him towards her lightly to give him a peck on the lips. "Rest assured, Roy. It's nothing to be too worried about. Not yet, at least."

Roy crossed his arms, dissatisfied. "Why are you teasing me about it now?"

She heaved an exhale, "I'm still very excited and torn between whether I should tell you now or later... Roy, I–" She peered up at him, and abruptly cut herself off. "...No. I will tell you when we get back to father's place."

...

Roy couldn't help but let out a cough as he opened the door to his wife's childhood home. He entered the house and let out another cough, grimacing. "Guess we can't stay here. It's way too dusty." He turned around when she didn't respond, to see her stare blankly inside the house. "Riza?"

"It's much cleaner than I thought it'd be." The blonde woman muttered, scanning the familiar room. "We didn't have much to steal, but everything is still here."

He reached a hand out to her, and she accepted it. "I had someone to come clean this place once in a while. When was the last time you came back?"

She frowned, her voice carrying a sense of guilt as she replied. "...I never came back after I left. Have you...?"

He merely responded with a smile, then led her up the stairs.

She tightened her grip around his hand as they got closer to her old room. She sighed, listening to the creaking sound of the bedroom door open, before looking up. It was a small and simple room, yet still neat after so many years. She didn't take anything with her when she left for the military.

Releasing her husband's hand, she entered her room, ignoring the dust that flew and stained on her heels. She didn't have much mental attachments with her room, since she would spend most of the time attending and taking care of her father and his disciple.

"Now that I am quite spoiled by you, this room looks terribly small to me." She joked as she turned to face her husband. "But I still found it quite unfair that my father had you stay at a room bigger than mine."

"I prefer calling it showering my affection to my lovely wife than spoiling, but you seemed to like it." He once again offered her his hand, "Come on, let's go take a look at the other rooms."

Placing her hand in his, she chuckled as she followed him out. "Are you taking me to a trip down memory lane now, Roy?"

"I'm quite a romantic person, you see." He grinned boyishly.

There's nothing romantic about this place, she wanted to say but swallowed the words. She suddenly felt relieved, all the tension disappearring as her heart felt lighter. She felt much more anxious than she thought she would be.

"All these books are still here." She said in an exclaiming manner when they reached the study room – the room he used to stay at. They stood in front of the book shelf. "You've read all these books?"

He nodded and said proudly, "Yes. All of them."

She sent him a playful grin, "To think that you were so hardworking back then, and now all you do is slack off at work."

"You're still on to that?" He sighed.

"Can't help it, you have been slacking off under my supervision for years." The grin remained on her lips, enticing a smirk from him.

"Oh? Your supervision?" He leant forward, his forehead touching hers and lips mere centimetres away from hers. "Bold for you to say that to your superior officer, lieutenant Hawkeye."

"Don't pretend that I haven't stayed overnight just to fill in the papers for you when you went on dates – several times may I say." She inched closer so their noses touched.

"You know it as well that those weren't dates." He murmured against her lips, "Or are you perhaps... still feeling jealous?"

She closed her eyes, and he gently took her in his arms and pressed his lips against her soft ones, fluttering his own eyes shut as their lips moved slowly and steadily against each other's.

Riza wrapped her arms around her husband, her hands placed on his back as she savoured the moment she had been waiting for. He parted her lips with his tongue and he sneakily slipped it inside her mouth, but she only responded by running her tongue along his and pulled away.

He moued, and she wiped the lipstick stain off his lips with a thumb. "We should head out now, it's getting dark."

The First Lady placed the bouquets of white lilies that they bought near the train station on her parent's graves, whilst Roy stood a few steps behind her.

The onyx-eyed man watched his wife, her light muttering incoherent yet so soothing to hear. He was tempted to step forward to hear what she had to say to her parents, but decided not to disturb. When she was seemingly done, he moved to wrap an arm around her shoulder, pulling her closer towards him.

"There's something I need to tell you," He felt her place her hand on his. He looked down to meet her honey hazel eyes staring deeply into his. She inhaled deeply, trying to calm her frantic heartbeat. "I'm pregnant."

He instantly froze, and he could feel his own eyes widen, as wide as saucers.

Riza let out a merry chuckle as she watched him slowly express his happiness: his lips stretched into a wide smile, and he held her hands tightly in his warm, coarse palms. His onyx eyes wide and bright like black diamonds, full of emotions. His mouth moved, as if there were thousands of words he wanted to say, but he could only mutter her name in a quivering yet loving voice.

She choked as her eyes brimmed with tears and she let out a sob though her smile never faded. She looked up when she felt a droplet the back of her hand. "Roy..." She reached her hand up to wipe a tear that rolled down his cheek, then sucked in a breath as he pulled her close, pressing her body against his and she closed her eyes as the warmth of her husband radiated, and he kissed the trail of her tears on her cheeks and licked her pearl tears, tasting the light saltiness.

He wrapped his arms tightly around her, no longer caring about the tears on their faces as he continued to plant kisses on her cheeks, forehead, nose, then finally her lips. She returned the embrace and the kiss, murmuring her husband's name softly against his lips whilst her heart fluttered, her mind reminding herself once again how lucky she was to have a man like Roy to love her.

Resting his forehead against hers when they ended the brief, tender kiss, he sighed. "Riza... thank you."

"We're going to be parents, Roy." Their fingers locked and she smiled shyly, "I love you."

"I love you too." He grinned, then placed her arms around himself before wrapping his arms back around his wife's relatively petite figure and buried his head in the crook of her neck, inhaling the warm, calming scent of the faint citrus, musk fragrance she put on and her unique body odour, and he couldn't help but press another kiss on the delicate skin.

She tightened her hold around him, resting her forehead on his shoulder. The blonde peered up, watching the setting sun painting her surroundings in a warm orange, yellow and red shade with a hint of violet. The dry late-fall wind blew gently, and she allowed the last tear to trickle down her cheek, then down her curved-up lips, as she closed her eyes and nestled her head closer to his.

Omake:

Riza placed a hand on her husband's as he planted soft kisses along her nape down her shoulders, and his warm palm rested on her stomach as she laid comfortably right beside him on the bed. "Are you planning to sleep or are you going to continue for the whole night?"

"Can't help it, darling." He murmured, and lightly nibbled on her earlobe, and proceeded to move to her cheek, then back to her neck. "I love you, Riza."

"I love you too..." She muttered back, drowsiness slowly taking over as the sense of reassurance and warmth from her husband surrounded her, his kisses and sweet whispers now acting as a lullaby. She stretched her neck backwards slightly, her eyes now closed though her lips slightly pouting, anticipating for one last kiss for the night.

Roy immediately leaned forward to answer her request, then pulled her shoulder lightly and she turned to face him before letting out a sleepy hum. He rested his hand on the small of her back, rubbing soothing circles as he watched his wife slowly drift to sleep, feeling her even breathing softly blow on his neck. His lips carried a smile and he too closed his eyes, filling his mind with thoughts on their future.
