It had been hot all day. The week before, the temperatures had gotten very high. So nobody was surprised when the storm hit. That night, Henry was at a friend's house. He had asked and asked, and Regina had agreed for him to go sleep over at his friend's house because he had had a good grade to his school test. She was proud of him. Not letting Emma convince him that school wasn't that important because she hadn't needed it to have a good life truly was a talent. He always had had good grades because Regina had always been there to make him study seriously. But now that Emma sometimes had him at her parent's house, it was worrisome for his grades. Or at least, she had thought so before seeing that he had gotten a good grade while having studied at Snow and Charming' house. Well, maybe the fact that Snow had been there had helped quite a lot...But these days, she was occupied with Emma' brother, so maybe Henry had remembered what Regina made him do to study. Anyways. Regina was alone at her mansion, reading a good book that Belle had given to her. She had a glass of her cider in hand. She was happy to be able to read peacefully. She loved her son, but when he was there, she couldn't really read because he wanted to play games with her. And if Emma was there, usually it was because there was a problem in town. Being the major, she was the one who was supposed to make things happen. Emma was her subordinate, or maybe she was at the same level as her as Emma always said, and so she came to ask her about important things. There were a lot of times when Regina really didn't want to know about all that. Times when she regretted being the major. But if it had been any person other than her, she would have sulked. She had experience ( well not a great one, but still) of leading people. She could do it. But the town's problems were really silly ones, and she would have appreciated if Emma didn't come to tell her that a cat had stolen a fish or that someone had forgotten an umbrella. Really, if she had known what sort of problems awaited her, she would have refused the role a long time ago. Snow, this is your calling !
Anyways. She was reading while listening to the thunder. She was in a great mood, and she didn't want to be disturbed. Lightning startled her and she let go of her book. It fell to the ground. Fortunately, Henry wasn't sleeping here, or else he would have woken up because of all this noise. Regina grabbed the book, getting annoyed because she had lost her page. It was one of the multiple annoying things in life. And while it wasn't that important, it was just as annoying as any other annoying thing. She was trying to find her page, when a second thing startled her: a knocking sound. On her door. At this hour. Who could it be ? She knew that sometimes, Charming had to patrol during the night. Was it him ? He never let Emma do it, she did the days with very few exceptions. And she had seen Emma today. So who ?
