I don't own Dungeon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatte Iru Darou ka.
The mirror began to glow and shifted into a black screen, on top of it, white letters began to appear.
- The Multiverse Cinema Complex (MCC) proudly introduces first-time viewers to our state-of-the-art equipment, perfectly created for you to enjoy your time here watching various timelines across the multiverse. -
"The multiverse?" Hermes mumbled "what does it mean by that?"
"The hell should I know what a multiverse is" Dionysus replied, sipping the glass of root beer he ordered "I'm just as clueless as you are"
- Now, perhaps you're wondering what we just say, mumbling "what does it mean by that?" or "the hell is a multiverse?"- making the two gods blushed, much to the amusement of others -well don't worry 'cause we got you covered. -
- A multiverse is a hypothetical group of multiple universes. Together, these universes comprise everything that exists: the entirety of space, time, matter, energy, information, and the physical laws and constants that describe them. -
Most of the crowd dumbfounded at this, not understanding even a single letter of it even meant.
- … In the language for dummies: It is a bunch of alternate realities. -
"Ooooh… HEY!"
- The purpose of the MCC is for its occupants to see the various alternate versions of themselves, ranging from being in the lowest depths of society to the height of utmost divinity, it would all be shown here. -
"Wait, you're telling me that in some worlds, some of us are even gods" Tiona exclaimed "Oh, hell yeah! I'm a goddess, baby"
"Oh, for love of… just quiet down Tiona.. The world only needed one goddess of flat-chests, it doesn't need another one. But still, I suppose our goddess would prefer a poor, unfortunate soul just like her." Tione replied, quickly shut down her twin sister's joyous mood.
"HEY! I COULD HEAR YOU CLEARLY TIONE!" shouted Loki, who was sitting next to Riveria, Gareth, and Finn "I AM YOUR GODDESS, TREAT ME WITH SOME RESPECT, DAMMIT!"
The three original members of the Loki Familia could only sigh at the scene before them, too familiar with it to actually care more than necessary.
- Because of it, please remember that since these are different versions of someone, doesn't mean their counterpart here is the same as them. In this world, they may be a virtuous man, while in another world they are the lowest of scums, and the opposite. Therefore, don't judge someone based on what you see in their counterparts, or else there will be grave consequences. -
"Is it just me or is the last sentence sound kinda ominous"
- If there is anything strange and unknown to you in the world you're watching that you want to know more about, please feel free to ask me out loud. -
"Now that is kinda convenient"
"True, but hey, free service"
- This little message from the MCC's operative system is now over. Please enjoy watching. -
The mirror showed Bell and Lili running through a darkened forest. The thunderous sky above showed clear signs of an upcoming storm. Lili was wearing her regular long coat with an orange T-shirt and ripped jeans underneath, while Bell was wearing a pair of grey sweatpants and a red T-shirt.
"Wait, is that… us, Mister Bell?" Lili asked, clear shocked in her voice.
"Yeah, I think so…" he replied with as much surprise as she was. While the voice did say that it would show alternative versions of people within this room, it never came up to him that he might be the first to be shown.
"WHAT! Why does that rabbit newbie and that Supporting Palum got to be the first to be shown" Bete yelled "Why do members of that problematic Familia get to be in the spotlight again?!"
"For goodness sake, Bete keep your voice down!" Tione said "No one cares about who got to be shown first, just sit down so the rest of us could peacefully watch it"
"Please not him" Lili muttered "By the gods, please not him"
"Lili, what the hell are you talking about?" Bell shouted "Can't you just spend one freaking minute to tell me why we're running in some random woods in the middle of the night?"
"Sorry, Bell! Can't really talk right now!" she exclaimed "Just keep on running!"
"The young rabbit should really listen to the grape harvester's daughter, or the beast of the wondering labyrinth might catch up to them"
"Cassandra, what are you talking about?" Daphne asked "Don't tell me you also have visions about this 'watching' thing as well"
"I'm not really sure about this, Daphne" the black-haired girl replied "It like as if someone was telling me to say it"
"Running fro-" but before he could finish his sentence, a terrifying roar appeared from behind them, shocking him out of what he was about to say.
"Is that…"
"Yep, most likely a monster"
Looking before, Bell saw the dark silhouette of a huge man lumbering toward them in a flash of lightning. His top half was bulky and fuzzy, while his head seemed to be covered by a sheet of blanket and his raised hands made it look like he had horns.
"I swear, with your luck Bell, that thing might as well be a Minotaur"
"Hey!" Bell stated "My luck isn't that bad, Lady Hestia. 'Right guy?"
None of his Familia members could even look him in the eyes.
"Hey, Lil', who is the guy behind us?"
After hearing Bell, Lili turned back and all blood drained from her face.
"Bell, listen to me" she said in a cautious voice, almost like she was afraid of something "You have to run. Do you see that big tree over there?"
"What?"
In another flash of lightning, it was shown what she meant: A huge, five-story house tall pine tree at the crest of the hill. From the darkened sky, the rain started to pour heavily down the two teenagers mercilessly, trying to drown them in more misery.
The man behind started to raise his speed and caught up with them, making grunting and snorting noises. As he got closer, his huge and meaty hands were shown swinging at his sides. There was no blanket, meaning the bulky and fuzzy mass was his real head. And the tips that looked like horns…
"Definitely a monster"
"That was the Camp's borderlines" Lili said "Run past that tree and you will find a white farmhouse in the valley. Run and don't look back. Yell for help. Don't stop until you either reach the door or some adults notice you"
"Lili, you're coming too"
"No Bell, you should go" Lili said, her voice becoming more determined by every passing second "I'll try to buy you some time, you go and find others for backups. Quickly!"
"What?! I'm not leaving you alone with that guy. If I go, you'll go with me!"
"Aw, nice to see the alternative you is still as nice as you are, Mister Bell"
"Don't be ridiculous" Bell said, a light blush appeared on his face "You're my friend, how could I ever abandon a friend for my own sake"
Despite his well-meant word, the word "friend" still made Lili feel hurt inside.
Without waiting for an answer, Bell caught her hand and started stumbling uphill through the wet waist-high grass.
"They should really cut down the grass here" Demeter said, her Familia Captain Persephone nodding alongside her "Even without monsters, it would still be quite the danger-hazor to have around"
The figure was coming closer and closer to them, making louder grunts and snorts while also revealing his true appearance.
The man- no, the monster was over eight-meter tall, with a muscular male torso. Its arms and legs bulging with muscles as if there were cannonballs stuffed under the vein-webbed skin. It wore nothing but a leather loincloth, with dirty-brown hair started at its belly button and got thicker as it reached the shoulders.
Its head was a mass of muscle and fur leading up to the enormous bull-like head, which had a snout as long as a child's arm, snotty nostrils with a gleaming brass ring, cruel blood-red eyes, and a pair of gigantic horns protruding from the sides of its head - Enormous black-and-white horns that looked like the tips of giant spears.
"Heh, boobs-for-brain was right. The rabbit boy's luck is that bad"
As Bell wiped away the rain from his eyes "Is that -"
"Pasiphäe's son" Lili interrupted him.
"Who's Pasiphäe?"
"A member of the Helios Familia" Hermes said "Quite the powerful magic user, horrifying temper, sadly she died alongside her Familia 'cause of the Evilus. However, I'm not sure why she is associated with Minotaurs in this world"
"But it's the Mino-"
"Don't say its name" she warned him "Names have powers"
"Interesting" Finn said "It seems that in this world, by invoking a monster's name, it might alarm them or some sort."
"Makes hunting them several times harder though" Gareth stated.
The poplar tree was still too far away from them - A few hundred meters uphill at least.
Lili glanced behind again.
The Minotaur just stood there, sniffing and nuzzling around, trying to find their scents.
"Hey, Lili" Bell called "What is it doing? Doesn't it see us?"
"Its sight and hearing are terrible" she said "It goes by smell. But it'll figure out where we are soon enough, even with a rain such as this"
"Kinda similar to our world's Minotaurs" Lili said "Their eyes aren't good enough to see in the Dungeon's artificial light so they used their nostrils to pick up the adventurer's scents."
"But to pick up scents in this kind of rain…" Welf shuddered "… that is terrifying"
As if on cue, the monster bellowed in rage. It picked up a giant boulder nearby and threw it at them, only missing them by a few centimeters.
"Bell" Lili said "When it senses us, it will charge. Wait until the last second, then jump out of the way - directly sideways. It can't change directions very well when it's charging. Do you understand?"
"That world's Minotaur seems to be more bull-like than our, apparently" Lili noted "Often, if a Minotaur from our world loses its weapon, it will use their strength to try and strangle the adventurer to death, not charging toward them"
"How on earth do you know all of this?"
"Training. Monsters like that are always attracted to people like us, you're bound to encounter some sooner or later. But I've never thought we will meet monsters this close to the camp."
"Wait, people like them?"
"Wait, people like-"
"Hey Bete, it seems like you and the 'rabbit boy' aren't so different now, huh?"
"Shut up!"
Another bellowed rage and the bull-man started tromping uphill.
The white poplar was only a few more meters, but the hill was getting steeper and slicker.
The monster closed in. Another a minute or two and it'd be on top of them.
Lili turned to Bell and shouted "Go Bell! Separate! Remember what I said!"
Despite not wanting to split up, he had the feeling she was right - This was their only chance of survival. He sprinted to the left, turned, and saw the creature bearing down on him.
Its eyes glowed with pure bloodlust.
The Minotaur lowered its head and charged, aiming the razor-sharp horns at Bell's chest.
And as the beast was mere centimeters away from his chest, Bell jumped to the side.
It grunted, pawing at the ground, kept eyeing Lili who was moving gently toward the borderline, trying to be as quiet as possible.
"Oh dammit"
"Language, Miss Supporter!"
"Bell, run!" She yelled "I will save you some time. RUN!"
But he just stood there, frozen in fear as the monster charged toward his best friend. She tried to sidestep, as she'd told him to do, but the monster had learned its lesson. Its hands shot out and grabbed her by the neck as she tried to get away. It lifted her as she struggled, kicking and pummeling the air.
"By the gods, just do something other-me. Anything, just don't stand there like some statue" Bell yelled, attracting the attention of some people near him.
"Uhm, Bell. You do know that he couldn't hear you right?" Welf asked with a smirk on his face, making the white-haired boy turn bright red with embarrassment.
'Fufufu, you're so adorable, my little Bell"
"Lili!"
She caught his eyes and managed to choke out one word: "Go"
Then her eyes began to softly glow a purple light as giant vines burst out from the ground, holding back the monsters by grabbing at its bulky limbs. As its hold upon Lili began to loosen, the young girl fell down to the ground with a thud, the sound of broken bones could be heard even through the heavy rain.
"Is that…" Lefiya said.
"… no-chant magic?" Riveria finished her student's question.
This singular scene quickly drew the attention of all the magic-users within the room.
In order for someone to use magic, they have to perfectly say their chant, with only some extremely rare exceptions such as Bell's Firebolt only needed him to say the magic's name. However, to use magic without even needing to say a single word, that is virtually impossible and only possible in dreams and imagination for them.
The petite girl then tried to hold herself up and come forward to her friend, however, before she could make even a single step, the monster broke out of its bindings and recaptured the limping girl.
"Lili doesn't know what else she is expecting" she said in a tired and nearly emotionless tone "the world is always against her after all"
"L-Lili!"
Then, with an angry roar, the Minotaur brutally threw her into a nearby boulder, cracking it in the process. Her head started to bleed as she lied on the ground unconscious.
"NOOOO!"
On the audience side, the same thing could be said for Bell and his companions.
The fact that a Minotaur was about to kill their Supporter filled them with anger, only wanting to jump into the mirror and kill the monster themselves.
Even Hestia, who dislikes the fact she is her rival and reminds Lili that almost every day, couldn't help herself but to feel anger at the scene in front of her.
In a few rows beneath them, the same thing could be said with a certain wine-making god.
The sight of Lili's motionless body on the ground filled his mind with pure, unadulterated anger. Newfound strength burned in his limbs - A rush of energy, unlike anything he had experienced before. In the sky, the storm became more and more violent through every minute, the rain began to block even the viewers' vision.
"I swear, the storm is like connected with Bell's anger or something"
"Don't be ridiculous, silver-armed member of dirt-poor Miach's Familia" Dian Cetch said "There's no way that little boy would have anything to do with a storm like that. He would need to be some kind of spirit to be able to do something like that."
"No one was talking to you, you old geezer!"
The bull-man bore down on Lili, who now lied helplessly on the grass. The monster hunched over, its giant hand was over her head, intended to kill her once and for all.
By now, the Hestia Familia's bloodlust could be felt clearly within the room, with some people near their area even trying to move away from them.
He couldn't allow that.
He will never allow that.
"It is the same for us"
"But-"
"Not 'but' Lili." Mikoto interrupted "You're our friend and we will never let anyone harm you"
"Y-yeah" said Haruhime "We will protect you as much as we possibly could, Lili-senpai"
Bell then stripped off his red T-shirt.
This caught the attention of several girls in the room, much to Hestia's annoyance.
She was sure that the cat maid at the Hostess of Fertility even had a bloody nose at the scene now. However, the fact she was trying to not show her own bloody nose means she couldn't do anything about it.
"Hey!" he screamed, waving the shirt in the air, running to one side of the monster "Hey stupid! Ground beef!"
"Is that really the best insult you could make, Cranel?" Mord snorted.
"Raaaaaaaarrrrrrr!" the Minotaur charged toward him, raising its meaty fist.
An idea crossed his mind. It was a stupid idea, but it was still better than not having one.
"It's true" Finn said "Even the stupidest ideas, if executed well, could save your life"
He put his back to a pine tree nearby and waved the red T-shirt in front of the bull-like monster, intending to jump out of its way at any time.
But it didn't happen like that.
"Well this clearly isn't executed well, huh"
"Shut up you mangy wolf!"
The Minotaur charged with a speed far greater than before, its arms out to grab him whichever way he tried to dogge.
Time started to slow down.
"Wait what is happening?" Asfi asked "Why is everything seems to be slowing down?"
- That is called slow motion, or slo-mo, which makes things appear on the screen to be slowing down to the viewers, even if it was happening in real-time for the characters. It is used to increase the cinematic effects in these scenes. -
As his sideways were blocked, Bell leaped straight up, kicking off the creature's head, using it as a springboard, turning in mid-air, and landed on its neck.
Just a millisecond later, the monster's head slammed into the tree and the impact nearly knocked Bell out.
"BELL!" several voices shouted out at once.
"Nope, Braver was wrong. Dead wrong" Lili shouted "That isn't stupid. That is SUICIDAL!"
The bull-man staggered around, trying to shake him off. Bell locked his arms around its horns to keep him from being thrown. Thunder and lightning were going on stronger than ever. The rain was in his eyes. The smell of rotten meat burned his nostrils.
The monster shook itself around and buckled like a rodeo-bull. Bell then realized that instead of backed up into a tree and smashed him flat, this beast now only had one gear: forward.
"Yeah, ride that bull little rabbit!"
"Show that monster who's the master!"
"That sound so wrong coming from you Amazonians"
Meanwhile, Lili was shown having some sort of movement, starting to slightly groan in the grass. A sliver of hope appeared in Bell's eyes. Despite wanting to shout to her, by the way he was getting tossed around; if he opened his mouth, he'd bite his tongue off.
"Fuckin' bullshit" she softly groaned.
"Language!"
The Minotaur wheeled toward her, pawed the ground again, and got ready to charge.
'No! Don't you dare touch her, ground beef!' Bell thought about how the monster was trying to kill his first/only friend, and the rage filled him like high-octane fuel. Sparks of red electricity began to appear around his eyes.
"Wait, what's happening to him?"
- Sorry miss Tiona, but since that question could be considered a spoiler, Lady Mnemosyne couldn't allow me to answer it. -
He got both his hands around one horn and then pulled back with all his might.
"Is he trying to do something I'm thinking about?"
"Most likely Hermes" Dionysus replied, a small smirk appeared on his face "It seems like he's tired of being on the defensive side"
The monster tensed, gave a surprised grunt, then-
SNAP!
The Minotaur screamed and flung him into the air. Bell landed flat on his back in the grass, his head smacked against a rock. When he sat up, his vision was blurry but he had a horn in his hands, a ragged broken horn about the size of a knife - A weapon.
"Finally" Bete exclaimed. He was getting annoyed at watching the rabbit boy being thrown around several times already "Now just go up and kill the damn Minotaur already!"
The monster charged.
Almost instantly, Bell rolled to one side and came up kneeling. Then, he ran toward the monster at a speed almost unwatchable by mere human's eyes, leaving behind a trail of burned grass and crimson-colored sparks.
"Interesting" Riveria murmured "Based on his actions, it seems like the feats he performing is almost subconsciously as if it was second-nature for him to do this"
"But these feats are impossible for any human- no, any regular mortal beings to achieve" Loki said "unless…". At this point, her eyes glanced toward Ais, her favorite child, munching on a Jagamarukun in worry as her eyes were glued onto the screen.
As he approached the monster, he leaped onto the beast in the same position he was before and stabbed the severed horn into its forehead. He then stabbed again, and again, and again…
He kept on stabbing the beast until the horn was fully inside the creature's skull.
The room was dead silent as the scene unraveled in front of their eyes.
Perhaps the most affected within the room was Bell himself, as he froze at the scene. Not once did such thought or action even came up to him, even after all the trials and events that he had encountered before.
Just the thought of doing such vile acts, even on a monster, sicken him.
'But if you were in the same situation, would you do the same as him?' a small voice appeared inside of his head 'If someone tried to harm your friends, could you guarantee you wouldn't act like him?'
As the thoughts kept on appearing in his hand, he suddenly felt himself being pulled within someone's lap as they hugged him close.
"Don't worry Bell" Hestia's soft and gentle voice appeared "We know you would never do such a thing. Even if you did them, we'll understand you have your own reason for it"
"Yeah, Mister Bell. There is no way we would hate on you because of things like that"
"You heard Lil'li said Bell, we'll never give up on you. Never. You're stuck with us for eternity now, Cranel"
"He's right Bell. You'll always be our comrades no matter what."
"Y-yeah, they are r-right, Bell-dono. Even if the world turned against you, we will never betray you."
Hearing his friends' words, Bell became to ease up as he lifted his head and saw the Sword Princess glancing toward him with worry. As their eyes met, she gave him a gentle smile, as if she could understand what he's been thinking.
And with that, his heart jumped a bit and he could feel the last of his worry melted away.
"Rrrraaaaarrrrrr!" The Minotaur let out its final roar of agony as it began to disintegrate into golden dust, leaving behind nothing but the smell of charred and rotten flesh, the broken horn, and two heavily-injured teenagers.
"Poor child" Demeter said "To experience all of that within a single night"
"I agree. The aftermath the boy shall feel will be enormous, both physically and mentally" Miach said.
The monster was finally gone.
The rain had stopped. The storm was still there, but only in the distance.
"The storm is definitely unnatural" Hephaestus said "There's no way a storm would stop the moment the fight ended and the monster's dead"
Bell just stood there, his knees were shaking and his head felt like it was splitted in two. The adrenaline from the fight was gone and now he was weak and scared. He wanted to lie down and cried, but there was Lili who needed his help, so he managed to haul her and staggered down into the valley, toward the light of the farmhouse.
He was crying, tears running down his cheeks as he held Lili tighter and tighter, his dirtied nails drawing some blood from her already bruised skin as if he was afraid that if he let go of her even for a minute, she would disappear into thin air.
The screen began to darken as he collapsed on the wooden porch, now only showing glimpses of a ceiling fan circling above, moths flying around a yellowish light, and the stern faces of two figures, one blond-haired man and a black-haired woman.
"Wait, who are those people?" Daphne asked "Should we be worried about them too?"
"Don't know. Seeing that Lili told him to seek help from them, they're probably not the enemies" Miach replied, however, a part of him was also worried about the two new-comers.
They both looked down on him and the blond man said "He's the one Hermes was talking about, isn't he?"
"Oh my us, oh my us, oh my us" Hermes gushed "I'm also in this world"
This ended with Asfi smacking her god on his head, clearly too familiar with his behaviors and tired to actually be annoyed.
"Be quiet, Mr. D" the woman slightly scolded him "The child is still injured, let him rest for a bit before you interrogate him."
"Mr. D? What kind of name is that?"
"Perhaps some sort of nickname or alias"
"But aunt-"
"No means no, Dionysus. We will speak of this later" she said "For now, let Cabin 7 do their job. There's still a lot of paperwork for you to finish after all"
"Fine then aunt Hestia"
And with that, the screen turned black.
Well, that is Chapter 1 - based on Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. Since I don't have a specific 'plan' for the story, please feel free to leave your suggestion in the Reviews.
As I don't want Bell to hog the spotlight all the time, please leave some suggestions for other characters as well.
Thanks for reading - Cảm ơn mọi người nhiều! φ(..;)
