Ch.2: Fair is Fair
A/N: Second Chapter! Yay! Quick note: Ryo is the suspected student at the regular highschool Class 1-A 1-B had been assigned to as a mission. Completely O.C. Hope this chapter flows! Enjoy!
That sunday morning came faster than what Ochako would have preferred. She steadily gets up, rubbing her morning crusties out of her eyes. She always admired how lit up her room would get in the morning. It was like that morning sun specifically would greet just her with its light. Taking in a big stretch, she peers back at her hamper before looking away. "Stupid hamper." she grumbles under her breath. She had almost forgotten about her prayer to the universe last night. It was just a dumb old laundry basket! It was weird of her to even think that throwing a wad of clothes in her basket would determine her fate with Deku.
She gathered her bathroom caddy and headed out of her dorm.
Ochako probably managed to get less than her normal hours of sleep in. She kept imagining what it would be like if Deku really did ask her out. Would it be colossal like Asui kept making it out to be, or something simple and just between them. She had hoped for the later one, especially since their relationship started off with the two of them saving each other in the entrance exam.
Before even reaching the girl's community bathroom she heard a shrieking scream. Her body felt electrified and instantly ran towards it without even thinking. "Is everyone O-"
Ochako stops in her tracks as she sees one of her classmates squealing in delight. Hagakurehad a bouquet of roses placed on her lap as she continued to squirm around her bed. Despite her being invisible, she still was capable of expressing a lot of emotion.
The rest of the girls gathered next to Ochako, being as completely as confused as she was.
"What's happening here?" Yaoyorozu asks before entering the room.
"Yeah, it sounded like someone was getting stabbed or something." Jirou added.
"Ojiro asked me out!" Hagakure began to explain. She lifted her roses to show a small envelope sticking in the middle of them. "Read it, read it!"
Ochako picked the envelope up and opened it. "Toru... Roses are red, and the sky is blue. It would mean everything to get the chance to dance with you. Will you go to the formal with me?"
Her hand felt heavy. Asui gently took the envelope from her friend's hand and placed it back into the bouquet.
"That's incredible Toru!" exclaims as they join their classmate on her bed. "You're one of the first girl's to get asked out to the dance!"
"I know! Isn't it great!" Yaoyorozu continued to gush over it all. "I literally had just woken up, and I walked out and felt a huge pinch on the bottom of my foot. I looked down and saw that I stepped on the flowers but then I saw the envelope and read it, and couldn't resist but screaming out loud!"
"What the hell happened?!"
The sound of Iida's voice made everyone jump. He followed the rest of the boys in, including Deku. Ochako bit her lip and looked away from him.
"Ah, there he is! Mr. Romeo!" Jirou teased once she spotted Ojiro.
"No fair, I want to go to the dance with someone!" Aishido playfully pouts, crossing her arms.
"If a dance is what you want, a dance is what you'll get it." Mineta purrs in his perverted manner, earning him a slap from Jirou.
Ochako can feel her cheeks growing hotter by the minute with Deku being right next to her. She had to get out of there. It wasn't like she was unhappy that her friend got asked out, she was excited for her. It was just that...it was just that standing next to Deku really brought the reality back to it all. No acknowledgment or an exchange of words. She clutched her bathroom caddy and excused herself out.
"Ochako?" She heard Asui quietly call out.
She gave a half smile and nodded. "I'm just going to brush my teeth, that's all."
She manereved her way through the group trying her best not to disturb her classmates from Toru's formal proposal. She figured she would hear the rest of the story when they all joined together for breakfast.
It's been two weeks. Two weeks without them really talking and he still didn't talk to her. Not even a goodmorning? What was with him all of a sudden.
Entering the bathroom, she forcefully squished out the toothpaste onto her toothbrush and brushed like she never did before. Was it something she said back at the class mission? They were working together just fine, almost a little too perfect, but she couldn't help that they made a great team!
She stared hard at her reflection letting her mind go back to that mission. The two of them had been selected from class 1-A to pose as normal students at regular high school while the rest of the class gathered intel on a particular student. Tsukauchi had suspected a student to be working closely with the League of Villains. Izuku and Ochako had to become friends with the suspected student which meant switching up their looks and coming up with different names.
"You'll be Kiyoshi!" Ochako teased, ruffling up Izuku's fluffy green hair. She hovered over him, parting his green strands to a deep side part. She concentrated on making him look as unrecognizable as possible. She gooped his hair slick with the hair products that were given to them. She had to admit, he looked like an old time hero with his hair so slicked down.
"What do you think?" She beamed, handing over a mirror for him to see.
Izuku flinched at his reflection, "I-Is that really me?!" He coughed out. He looks a few years older than he normally did, but also a lot more dorkier than normal.
"I know, I know. " Ochako laughs through her reply, "Remember, we have to be unrecognizable. Ryo can't tell it's us, especially if he's working with the league."
"It's just different is all." Izuku said coming to terms. He shifted his body towards her and grabbed for the brush. "Now, your turn."
"What? Nooo." Ochako wrinkled her nose through her laugh, "My hair is fine!"
"So was mine!" Izuku playfully protested. "It's only fair you have to do something different."
"Well fair, is fair." Ochako sat criss cross on the floor. Izuku crawled on his knees behind her. Her hairs on the back of her neck stood straight as he carefully picked up her brown strands. Izuku combed through them softly, careful not to catch a tangle. It was relaxing for her, actually the both of them. The way the brush sounded as he combed through made Ochako want to fall back on him and sleep. The tingly sensation reached from her scalp to her toes as he continued it on. It was quiet between them before Izuku asked her a question.
"What was that?" Ochako opened her eyes not even realizing they were closing.
"I said, what is your name going to be? If i'm Kiyoshi, then what's yours?"
Ochako relaxed her shoulders a bit. She hadn't thought of one, now thinking about it. She slightly leaned herself back to him as he continued to brush her hair.
"I don't know," she said softly, "What do you think?"
"I'm not sure, I'm not really good with names." She could hear the nervousness in his tone.
"Aw, c'mon Deku! I named you, now it's only fair for you to name me."
He stopped brushing through her strands, which allowed Ochako to turn to look at him.
"It's only fair." She smirked.
Izuku let out a breath before he laughed. "You got me. Fair is fair."
He returned back to his brushing before grabbing a clip from the items they were given. Ochako could feel him carefully twist her hair upwards and felt the slight pressure of the clip being pinned behind her scalp. "How 'bout Hinata?"
"Hinata?" Ochako could hear the confusion in her voice. She wanted to slap herself if it even dared made Deku feel bad for his choice of name.
"Y-Yeah. You're pretty bright, and always smiling. That's why I thought it would be a good name for you."
Ochako turned around and couldn't find the words to say. She wanted nothing more to just reach out and embrace him for whatever reason. "The mirror," Deku finally said, picking it up and handing it out to her. She shook her head, hoping it would shake out the intrusive romantic thoughts that entered her head. "It looks good!" She gasped at his wonderful work.
"Thanks," Deku said, feeling a little proud of himself. "It's the only hairstyle I know how to do on girls since it looks like my mom's."
"Oh, so you've done this look to other girls, huh?" Ochako teased at him, letting the freckled hero grow all sorts of red in the face.
"No, No! I'm not saying that it's just that-" he stammered, trying to cover his face.
"I was just kidding Deku!" Ochako laughed as she stood up from the floor. She turned and reached her hand out for him. "C'mon we got a student to spy on!"
"Right!"
"Ochako, Ochakoooo…"
The gravity hero snapped her head back up from her daze. Her sink was now starting to flood up towards her while she looked pretty rabid with toothpaste foaming at her mouth. She turned to the voice, now realizing that it was Asui who was just checking on her.
"I think your teeth are clean."
"Oh right," She said, now turning off the water and spitting out the paste. "Thanks."
"Breakfast is being served right now, if you want to join." Asui continued to say, "I completely understand if you want to just eat in your dorm though."
"No, it's fine." Ochacco gathered her things away. "I'll join you guys! It was only right that she joined Toru in celebration for her date. Afterall, she had done the same when Ochacco got into her internship a while back. And what was fair is fair.
She paced her way down towards the kitchen, sitting herself next to Osue and Todoroki. Fun Fact: Todoroki was always the best one to sit next to as he was one of the few boys who didn't chew with their mouth open. For breakfast, it was souffle pancakes, which happened to be one of Ochacco's favorites. Her mouth watered as the plate was served in front of her. In a few minutes, the plate was going to bare with little crumbs remaining. She opened her mouth ready for the impact of flavor when she realized who had joined the seat in front of her.
"Good Morning Uraraka."
She took a bite and forcefully swallowed, only making herself hack up pieces of her food. "Jeez, are you okay Ochako, you're choking!" Tsu said smacking the poor girl on the back.
"I'm fine!" She said between breaths before finally catching one. Todoroki sat unbothered.
Deku sat in his chair looking rather frightened and concerned than when he initially came up. "Are you sure you're okay?" He finally asked once he saw her take a swig of her orange juice. She nodded.
Ochacco sat back, trying her best not to seem like this sudden conversation was awkward. What the hell, it was awkward! Why now, during breakfast?! Especially after seeing Hagakure 's dance proposal.
"Goodmorning Deku." Ochako finally offered a small grin. Deku curved a smile, making his freckles move with it. She felt her heart flip.
"Well," He finally said, breaking the tension, "I have something to ask of you."
Holy shit! This was it! Deku really was going to ask her out! She wasn't making it up! He did have feelings for her!
Ochako could feel her whole body numb yet shake with energy. She couldn't help but plaster the world's biggest smile on her face. She was going to say yes, she just had to!
"-I was wondering if you would help me go shopping."
What?!
Ochako could feel her body wash away with a different feeling. "Help you with shopping?" she said slowly trying to come to terms with what was just said.
"Yeah," Deku began to scratch the back of his head, "I'm sort of bad with shopping for clothes. I was never one to go out and look for some, but I thought maybe you could help me."
"Il come along!" Yaoyorozu piped in from the kitchen. "I need to go look for a dress anyway."
"Me too!" Aishido added.
Suddenly the rest of the class began to offer joining along. Ochako sat there not knowing what type of reaction to give. Should she be sad or should she be happy. Everyone was now joining it, so there was no real excuse for her not to go with him.
"Sure, that sounds like fun!" She finally said, with a soft smile.
"Perfect! We'll leave in a few hours!"
"Can't wait!"
Walking back to her dorm to get ready, Ochako couldn't help but feel a pinch at her heart. Was this disappointment? Did him not asking really mess with her that bad? She closed her door, carefully trying not to slam it. Once more, she collapsed back at her bed, wanting nothing more than to just sleep this day away if it meant getting it over with. "He would do the same if you asked." she thought to herself as she twisted herself into her covers. "And what's fair. Is fair."
