Past Pain

"Move out of the way!" A high pitched voice shouted, swimming fast.
"Please calm down, Mai! We will get there in time!" A softer voice said.
"I know that, Alexis! But, I'll never let Yusei or Jack, beat me!" The voice, Mai, shouted back.
"*Sweat-drops*…Really?" Alexis says, sweat-dropping at her older sister's real reason for wanting to be there first.
"That's pretty selfish, sis. It's supposed to be a big day for us, not for your selfish reason." A voice from, behind Alexis, exclaimed.
"Oh, shut up, Jaden!" Mai said, her cheeks burning in embarrassment.
"Guys, stop arguing & come on. We are going to be late!" Alexis says, already in front of Mai & Jaden.
"Fine..." Both groaned, as they swam to catch up to Alexis, as they were heading to the place.
The, there that they were heading, is currently the infirmary. Today is a very special day for mermaid & merman kind; the day the sixth child of the King & Queen of the Sea would be born. Their older siblings, Yusei & Jack, along with their parents & grandpa were already there.
"I hope it's a boy! I want a brother." Jaden exclaimed, his voice filled with excitement.
"Well, I for one, hope that it's a girl! We need more girls in this family." Mai says, her arms crossed over her chest.
"Hopefully not...tag your it!" Jaden shouted, as he slapped the back of Mai's head & swimming away.
"*Growls*You little twerp!" Mai shouts, before swimming to a retreating Jaden.
"...Oh boy..." Alexis says, shaking her head & trying to catch up with Mai. Making sure that she doesn't kill their little brother.
"My son...you know that I love you with all of my being, but if you don't stop swimming back & forth, I will TACKLE YOU TO THE GROUND!" Solomon Muto screamed, scaring his son.
The man stood at a height of 6'0 ft & was 38 years old. His hair is black, with bits of yellow highlights at the tip of his hairs. He had an average haircut for a male & an average body build. He wore a gold crown on his head & has a royal blue tail. His name is Takashi Muto, ruler of the Sea. His personality consisted of kindness, fear, slight braver & clumsiness.
Currently, the King was nervous & worried for his wife, along with his new son. His father, Solomon Muto, is currently tired of his son's pacing back & forth. While the King's eldest sons only crossed their arms & looked at their father with a deadpan expression. But, they were secretly worried for their mother & the arrival for their baby sibling.
"I'm sorry father, it's just...I'm nervous! It's been nearly two hours since she was brought here." King Takashi said, his voice filled with nervousness.
"I understand, my child. But,-"Solomon Muto begins to say, before getting cut off.
He was cut off by a gentle cough from behind him & turned to see the nurse. She had red long hair, a pink shell-bra, & a red tail. She motioned her hand to King Takashi, beckoning him to come inside the room. King Takashi immediately swam into the room, but stopped his eldest children from entering the room, who were eager to see their new sibling, & they pouted.
Yusei & Jack reluctantly leaned against the wall as they waited. About 5 minutes later; Mai, Alexis, & Jaden stumbled into the waiting room & crashed into the wall.
"Took you guys long enough." Yusei commented.
"You try containing an angry Mai from tearing Jaden apart." Alexis said dryly.
Jaden then sprang up from the wall & swam behind Jack, only peaking a bit from Jack's shoulder. Jack only looked at his little brother & turned to an angry face Mai.
"It's petty to get angry at a 3 year old." Jack said dryly.
Mai's face exploded with red, while Jack bumped his fist with Yusei as he still stared at Mai with a grin on his face. Mai was about to attack Jack, only to freeze by a beautiful singing voice;
"*Singing*Oh, the waves roll low & the waves roll high. And so it goes, under a bright blue endless sky..." A woman's voice sang, right behind the seaweed curtain that covered the Queen's infirmary room.
Solomon, Yusei, Jack, Mai, Alexis, & Jaden all turned their heads to the room. Then, King Takashi appeared; having a gentle smile & moist eyes upon his face. He gently swam to the side of the room's entrance & held up the seaweed cover & waved his hand, an indication to come into the room. Solomon & his grandchildren swam gently into the room & all of them smiled at the sight of the Queen.
The Queen, known as Mirna Muto, was about 5'7 ft & 37 years old. She has similar hairstyle to Jaden's, but her color was more of a brownish-red & her hair went down to her neck & stopped just above her shoulders. She had a heart-shaped face, along with small round eyes & darkish-purple colored eyes. She had a purple sea-shell bra & a lavender tail that was hidden beneath the white blanket.
Queen Mirna looked up & smiled, before continuing to sing to the bundle of white blankets that resided in her arms;
"*Finishes Singing*…Waves try to measure. The days that we treasure. Wave 'hello', & wave 'goodbye'." Queen Mirna finished singing, with a smile.
Yusei, Jack, Mai, Alexis, & Jaden all smiled at their mother. Her singing always made them feel happy & at peace. Queen Mirna looked back at her family & beckoned her children & father-in-law to come forward. They all gently came over to her & looked down at the bundle in her arms & gasped lightly.
Resting in Queen Mirna's arms was a baby boy. He looked small for a baby & a bit feminine looking, but was nonetheless beautiful, for a boy. He had a somewhat full set of hair & a cherubic face. Then, they saw the little one yawn & begin to open his eyes & saw beautiful shades of amethyst that sparkled.
The royal children looked in 'awe' at the sight of their baby brother. Solomon Muto smiled & placed a hand on Mirna's shoulder & nodded his head. Queen Mirna nodded back & saw her children still looking at their baby brother, especially Yusei, & chuckled.
"Yusei, hold out your arms." Queen Mirna said gently.
Yusei looked at his mother in confusion, before putting his arms out. Before he knew it, the baby was placed in his arms & his mother adjusted his hold. Yusei slightly jumped at this, but arranged his arms so he could hold his baby brother properly. Yusei quickly got his grip right & looked down to see that his baby brother was already looking at him. The baby raised his little hand & seemingly tried to grab Yusei. Yusei blinked at this & adjusted his arms again, in order to use his hand. He gently placed one of his fingers in front of the baby, & the baby immediately grabbed it in a gentle hold. The baby cooed, before giving a toothless, small smile at Yusei.
Yusei blinked & smiled back, already happy & going soft at his baby brother. Yusei's siblings then gathered around him, as the adults looked at the children with gentle smiles.
"Awww, he is so cute!" Alexis cooed, putting her hands on her cheeks.
"I'm soo happy! We got a brother!" Jaden exclaimed excitedly.
"I just hope he isn't a pig like Jaden." Mai commented playfully.
"Let's hope. By the way, Mother, Father, does he have a name?" Jack asked, looking at his parents.
Everyone then stared at the King & Queen, who both looked at each other with smiles plastered on their faces. They then smiled once more & turned back as Queen Mirna beckoned Yusei back & grabbed the baby once more, before saying the baby's name.
"His name is, Yugi." Queen Mirna said with a bright smile.
A week Later~
After a few days of bedrest & planning, the King & Queen announced the new child of the kingdom; Prince Yugi Muto. As to celebrate the birth of Yugi, the King & Queen said that the Kingdom would go to the surface, by a waterfall & play joyful music. All of the merpeople were excited & started to grab their own instruments & head to the surface.
Mermaid, merman, & mer-children were seen dancing & laughing all around. The King & Queen sat on a flat rock & watched their people in happiness. They then turned their attention to Yusei, who was holding his baby brother & introducing him to some of his friends;
One of them is a young girl. She is 7 years old & one of Yusei's oldest friends. She has fair skin, dark burgundy hair that is mostly chin-length with an additional elbow-length bangs that frame both sides of her face. She has rolls in front of her face, but were kept above her eyebrows. She has brown eyes & wears a heart shaped necklace. She has a pink cloth wrapped around her chest & a magenta colored tail. Her name is Akiza Izinski.
The second one is a boy, who is 8 years old & another one of Yusei's friends. He has brushy-spiked orange hair with a viridian headband. He has fairly light-tanned skin & he has dark-grey eyes. His name is Crow Hogan.
The last one is another boy & is 3 years old, who is also Jaden's & Alexis's old friend. He has black eyes & black hair that is sectioned in two layers; his black eyes are positioned directly beneath the bangs of the layer closest to his face. His hair is edged upward in the back, while the front of his hair is downward spikes. He has fairly white skin. His name is Chazz Princeton.
"He is so adorable, Yusei! I would love to have a baby brother as cute as him." Akiza said, cooing at Yugi.
"Ya, dude! He is one cute-looking baby." Crow said.
Yusei unconsciously pulled Yugi slightly closer to his chest, almost not likely others complimenting his baby brother. This action didn't go unnoticed by the others & they giggled a bit, while Chazz hid his laugh.
"Watch out! Big, overprotective Yusei is appearing & that means trouble." Crow jokingly taunted.
Yusei slightly rolled his eyes & couldn't help, but smile a bit. Crow always had a way of making him smile.
An unexpected 'Yelp' was heard by Yusei, Crow, & Akiza. They looked to see Chazz, his head covered with water & tiny crabs. Laughing was heard from not far away, they all looked up to see a 3 year old Jaden, who was gripping on his stomach for dear life, while tears of laughter rolled down his face.
"You are dead, Jaden!" Chazz shouted, as he was swimming to an already retreating Jaden.
Crow & Akiza laughed as Yusei only rolled his eyes, clearly not interested about what transpired. Yusei then waved his friends goodbye & swam up to his parents, & handed Yugi gently to them. After that, Yusei swam to his grandpa, who was watching across the sea. Yusei swam beside him & looked forward as well, but not without a few glances at his grandpa. Yusei then got startled by the sound of his grandpa's voice after minutes of calming silence.
"Your grandma would have loved to see this. I wish she was here.." Solomon Muto said, obvious sadness in his voice.
Yusei only looked at his grandpa, who was still face forward, & had an equally sad face. It had been only a few years since his grandma, Abhitha Muto, was lost to them by a dangerous virous. His grandma was a fearless woman, as such, she didn't fear death as she knew that was going to happen to her.
Yusei was about to say something, anything to comfort his grandpa, when a screaming voice broke the atmosphere all around them.
"HUMANS! THEY'RE COMING!" A merman screamed, his voice filled with terror.
Everything happened so quickly around Yusei, Merpeople were panicking & grabbing their children, while frantically looking at the human ship that was heading towards them. Every mer-person swam back under the water, forgetting their musical instruments, & swimming away as fast as they can. Yusei saw his grandpa heading to the water & helping the merpeople, & just before Yusei could help him, he heard a familiar cry;
"Help! I'm stuck!" Jaden shouted.
Yusei turned & saw that his little brother's tail was caught in-between two rocks. Yusei immediately sprang into action & swam to Jaden. Yusei quickly pushed one of the rocks away & thankfully freed Jaden's tail. As soon as Jaden's tail was free, he dived right into the water & followed the rest of his siblings. Yusei was about to dive after him, until he saw his parents also trapped between rocks. Yusei then saw that the ship was coming closer & swam as fast as he could to his parents. He tried to do the same thing he did on Jaden, but these rocks were too strong. Even still, Yusei kept pushing & pushing, until a firm hand was placed on his shoulder. Yusei looked up & saw the pained expressions on his parents faces along with tearful smiles.
"Yusei, honey...it's okay." Queen Mirna said gently, her voice cracking a bit.
Yusei shook his head with tearful eyes, he knew what his mom meant by those words.
"Your mother is right...it'll be okay, son." King Takashi said, with pain laced in his voice.
Yusei again shook his head, tears pouring down his cheek as he looked at his parents.
"N-No! I can help! I-I can-" Yusei tried to say, but couldn't.
His parents only looked at him in pain & sadness, before his mom passed him a crying Yugi. Yusei immediately grabbed Yugi into his arms & tried to smooth him. Yusei looked at his parents, one more time...
"I-I love you b-both..." Yusei said tearfully.
"We love you too." The King & Queen said, tears running down their faces.
Yusei turned his head to the side & dove into the water, not looking back. As he did, his grandpa & siblings saw him, & quickly swam over to him. Before they could get a word out, a large crash was heard above. All of the mer-people looked up, but one question made them look down at the eldest son of King Takashi;
"Where is mom & dad..?" Jack asked Yusei.
All of the mer-people looked at Yusei, wanting to know where their beloved Queen & King are. They got only a look, but it spoke a thousand words; Yusei raised his head up, tears ran down his cheeks & a painful look upon his eyes.
King Takashi & Queen Mirna are dead
5 Weeks Later~
As the weeks followed, a funeral was planned for the late King & Queen. All over the sea, mer-people, fish, & any sea creature mourned in sadness at the tragedy.
After the funeral, Solomon Muto was placed back on the throne until Prince Yusei was ready to lead. The royal family mourned & grieved at their loss. Yusei stayed strong for his family, especially his baby brother Yugi, who wouldn't even remember his parents.
(I swear on our parents...I will protect you forever Yugi, no matter what...) Yusei thinks as he watches his baby brother sleep.
Present Day~
King Muto looked out a window, looking over his kingdom & sighing in pain. He then felt someone leaning on his right side. He turned to see Jaden, looking up at him. He then felt more & saw that it was Mai & Alexis, looking up at him. He stared at all of them, before slowly breaking down in tears, His grandchildren only held him & rubbed his arm & back, not saying anything.
"I'm sorry, Yugi...*Cries*I'm sorry.." King Muto says, knowing that it was useless.
Jaden, Mai, & Alexis look at each other, before pulling their grandpa into a hug, which he responds to immediately. All of them hugging each other in comfort & hope that things will get better.
Over at a certain palace & kingdom, was still nighttime.
As Yusei watched his brother sleep, he then looked behind him to see that the others were also asleep, having traveled & gathering food was quite exhausting. Yusei had only been asleep for a couple of hours & just watched Yugi.
(I promise...Mom, Dad, Grandpa...I will do anything I can to help Yugi & make him happy. Even if it means losing him forever & giving him to...those barbarians.) Yusei thinks, his arms tightening as he thinks.
Yusei then remembers something from a long time ago. When Yugi was only a baby & that Yusei was the only one awake to hear Yugi.
FLASHBACK~
A soft crying was heard in one of the bedrooms that woke Yusei up & checked it out, already knowing who it was. Yusei entered the room & saw Yugi crying softly & hiccupping. Yusei saw the crib & placed Yugi in his arms as he tried to sooth him by rocking him back & forth. It didn't successfully work, until Yusei thought of something else that might help.
Yusei cleared his throat & began to sing a song that he remembers by heart.
"*Sings*Under the bright blue, endless sky..." Yusei began to sing.
As he kept singing, Yugi began to quiet down & go back to sleep, the sound of Yusei's voice soothing him into a deep slumber.
"*Finishes Singing*…days that we treasure. Wave 'hello' & wave 'goodbye'." Yusei finishes.
Yusei looked down & smiled at the peace, sleeping baby brother. Yusei was about to put Yugi back in his crib, before stopping himself & swimming back to his room, Yugi in his arms.
The next morning, the maids entered Yusei room, only to be in 'awe' as a sleeping Yusei was cuddling an equally cuddling baby Yugi.
END OF FLSHBACK~
Yusei smiled softly at the memory & watched Yugi sleep with happy eyes.
"I will always protect you...no matter what.." Yusei promised to a sleeping Yugi, as he began to close his eyes, not entirely sleeping, but resting.
Yusei didn't notice the pair of purple eyes watching him.
(Let's hope our plan works, or we might not be able to protect Yugi at al...) Jack thinks, worry within his thoughts.
The minute the sun would rise, it was time for the plan to begin.
Wow...um, okay...I actually started to cry while writing this & I hope you guys like it. Also, in case some of you might wonder why I chose those names for Yugi's parents & grandma, here are the meanings to those names.
Takashi: This one I don't know to well, I just like the name.
Mirna: A calm & tender person. (The creators never gave us Yugi's mom real name & I though this name might fit her.)
Abhitha: A fearless or a courageous woman. (I always had a feeling that Yugi's grandma was a tough cookie.)
