A/N: This is a story that begins far in the future from the books. Note that the last book I read was the Last Hope and that was years ago, I don't really remember what happened after the New Prophecy anyhow. I do know about SkyClan, however, so they'll be in this story. No Allegiances yet...let's begin!

It was a beautiful day in WindClan, at least Fawnpaw thought so. The sun shined overhead and a gentle breeze blew through the air. The medicine cat apprentice was more then happy to be out of camp where she spent most of her time.

Today she was following along with a patrol of warriors and apprentices. She was supposed to be collecting herbs but she was easily distracted by everything she saw. Everything was just so exciting! She felt like a kit again, filled with wonder.

"Oh!" She leapt through the air, her paws batting at a pretty butterfly. She landed on a soft lump of fur.

"Get off, Fawnpaw!" A voice groaned. She giggled as she slipped off of her brother, Stagpaw. He shook the dirt from his pelt. "Why do you have to act like such a kit? You're going to get both of us in trouble!" Her brother scowled at her before running to catch up to the rest of the patrol party.

Fawnpaw rolled her eyes and continued at a leisurely pace. Her brother didn't know how to have fun anymore. He was always so serious about his training and acting like a grown up already. Fawnpaw wanted to remain young for as long as she could.

She suddenly stopped and her attention became fixated on a flower in front of her. It was a light blue color, almost fluorescent. Looking closer, Fawnpaw noticed that the petals were lightly see-through. The flower amazed her. She had never seen one like it before. Was it rare? Did it have any medicinal use?

"Fawnpaw, don't get left behind!" One of the warriors in the party called to her. There was no way she was leaving this flower here. With her luck some heavy-pawed cat would step all over it before she could return. So, the medicine cat apprentice bit the stalk of the flower and carried it in her mouth, scampering off to catch up to the patrol.

As Fawnpaw reached the group of cats she entwined the flower in Stagpaw's thick brown coat. "Keep that safe for me, will you?" She asked. She was going to have a lot of herbs to carry back and she didn't want anything happening to the flower.

But Stagpaw bristled at her and shook the flower from his pelt. "I don't want any flowers in my fur! I'm a warrior apprentice. I don't sit around all day like you making flower crowns." He huffed and left his sister staring off after him. Fawnpaw let the party leave without her and this time no one noticed.

Fawnpaw shook her head. Stagpaw doesn't know anything, she thought to herself. If he only knew what I actually did inside the medicine cat den all day he would-

"No!" She yowled as a gust of wind blew, carrying the blue flower along with it. Fawnpaw scrambled after it. She was a WindClan cat, so she was as fast as they came, but even she wished she was faster. The flower kept blowing as if it was deliberately trying to get away from her.

Finally, the flower was within paw's reach. She leapt for it, catching it in her mouth. Fawnpaw let out a triumphant squeal of glee. Her paws first landed on stable ground but as she took a step to steady herself she found the floor give out beneath her. Her eyes went wide with horror as she began to tumble down the cliff in front of her.

Fawnpaw screamed as her light brown body hit the rocky slope over and over again. As she crashed into the chasm at the bottom of the hill everything went black.

Fawnpaw opened her eyes, slowly at first. The sunhigh light stung her eyes as if she had just left the den for the first time in the day. She found herself laying at the bottom of the cliff. Looking at the clifftop above she couldn't believe she had just fallen down that.

The medicine cat apprentice rose to her feet. She found it odd she didn't even feel sore. Had she just imagined how much it hurt falling down the slope?

"Fawnpaw." She heard a voice behind her. Had she not seen a StarClan cat before she would have jumped out of her skin.

"Sorrelstep!" The StarClan member had been a former WindClan medicine cat. Fawnpaw saw her often when she went to Moonpool. "What are you doing here?" She asked as she had never seen a StarClan cat when she wasn't at Moonpool.

"Walk with me," Sorrelstep mewed before beginning to pad off. Fawnpaw didn't argue and followed the former WindClanner. She felt odd as she followed after the StarClan cat, staring at her transparent form. She chalked up her feeling to her confusion.

"What are you doing here?" Fawnpaw asked again. But Sorrelstep didn't answer she merely led the way up the side of the cliff. When they were on even ground the StarClan cat turned to face her. The orange and white cat would've caught the attention of many toms despite the fact that she was a medicine cat.

"I am here because you are needed, Fawnpaw," Sorrelstep simply answered. The apprentice already knew she was needed, she didn't need Sorrelstep to tell her that. Fawnpaw remembered vividly the day when her mentor, Larkwhisper, asked her to become her apprentice.

"I'm vital to WindClan as their medicine cat apprentice, I know that," Fawnpaw responded, an annoyed tone present in her voice. The tone surprised even Fawnpaw, she was usually so quick to hide it.

"And StarClan agrees with you," Sorrelstep told her. "However, you are needed some place else." Someplace else? What was Sorrelstep talking about? But, Fawnpaw didn't have time to dwell on the StarClan warrior's words.

"FAWNPAW!" A blood-curdling scream of her name snapped Fawnpaw's attention away from Sorrelstep. She looked down the cliff side and instantly froze.

On the rocky floor lay the lifeless body of a light brown cat. Fawnpaw realized with a start that it was her body. Her blood went cold. She noticed her brother, Stagpaw, leaping down the cliff. He nudged her body, begging her to wake up. Fanwpaw felt tears roll down her eyes. She raised a paw to wipe them away when she noticed they were transparent, just like Sorrelstep's. The transparency also reminded her of something else: the flower.

Fawnpaw's tears dried instantly as she realized the truth. She turned to Sorrelstep. "You did this!" She felt anger rising up within her. StarClan had created the flower. They knew with her inquisitive nature she would chase after it. StarClan had killed her. Fawnpaw would normally not argue with StarClan's plan but she had already given up so much in life. And for her to give up her actual life felt unfair.

"I apologize, Fawnpaw." Sorrelstep dipped her head. "But StarClan needs your help."

"My Clan needs me!" She argued. What would her brother do without her? They were all each other had left in the world. And Larkwhisper, how would she cop with-

"Your Clan will survive," the white and orange cat said to her. "StarClan, however, will not, not without your help." She stood and flicked her tail, singling for the young cat to follow.

"What are you talking about?" Fawnpaw caught up to her in a few leaps. There was no way something could happen to StarClan...was there?

"I will explain when all of you are gathered," Sorrelstep's response chilled Fawnpaw to the bone. There were more cats she was meeting? More poor souls StarClan had murdered?
