A/N: Icenose here again! Just these first couple chapters are going to be short as I introduce you to the story and they made the most sense to cut them where I did. Chapter 3 out soon!

As the pair of cats with stars in their pelts approached the Moonpool, Fawnpaw found that her paws didn't ache from the journey. She supposed that was what happened after you died. You didn't have a body anymore to feel any discomfort or pain.

Squinting her eyes, she noticed three other transparent forms already sitting beside the Moonpool. Were these the 'all' Sorrelstep had mentioned? The cats turned in their direction as they approached.

"I'll leave you here, Fawnpaw, someone will appear to you when the fifth had arrived," Sorrelstep turned to Fawnpaw. She pressed her nose against the medicine cat apprentice, which sent a jolt through her pelt. That had been the first thing she had felt since she had died. "Good luck." And as swiftly as Sorrelstep had appeared she was gone.

The three cats were still staring at Fawnpaw. There were no scents to tell her which Clan these cats were from. She didn't recognize any of them. However, Fawnpaw was quick the guess where they came from. There was one pretty dappled she-cat with a slick pelt, RiverClan, she thought. Then, a gray/brown tabby tom with, despite everything, hope in his eyes, ThunderClan. And finally, a dark calico she-cat with a scowl already on her face, ShadowClan. Fawnpaw presumed they were only waiting for the SkyClan cat.

"I'm Fawnpaw," she awkwardly introduced herself sitting beside the presumed RiverClanner.

"We heard." the dark calico she-cat rolled her eyes. Fawnpaw noted the large scar across her face. Definitely ShadowClan, she thought to herself. Who else would have an attitude like that?

"Shush, Jaggedscar." the she-cat next to her flicked her tail at the ShadowClan warrior. "I'm Dapplestream, from RiverClan. Aspenflight's from ThunderClan-" she motioned towards the tom next to her. "-and as you probably guessed Jaggedscar's from ShadowClan."

The apprentice dipped her head. "A pleasure to meet all of you." She wondered what nonsense she was spouting. She had always been taught to respect her elders, but why should she had manners when the four of them were sitting at Moonpool dead?

"Here we are," a voice purred behind her, nearly scaring Fawnpaw out of her skin. She hadn't heard any pawsteps behind her. She supposed StarClan cats didn't make any noise as they moved. They didn't have a body, why would they?

"Wow! Is this Moonpool? It's so pretty!" A young voice chipped as a black and white apprentice landed next to her. "Hi everyone! I'm Goosepaw!"

"Certainly as loud a goose..." Jaggedscar mumbled and Dappledstream swatted at her.

"Goosepaw?" Fawnpaw questioned. She knew this tom! She had met him at a gathering once. Somehow, the SkyClan apprentice had gotten a thorn in his pad. She had removed it for him.

"Fawnpaw! You're here too!" He thrashed his tail back and forth excitedly. She wondered if he didn't understand how dire this situation was. Fawnpaw realized with a start if that was how Stagpaw felt. There she had been bounding around like a kit when he was just doing his best to train because he felt it dire to become a warrior. She flattened her ears. She wondered if she would ever get the chance to apologize to him. Probably not until her brother came to StarClan himself.

Fawnpaw noticed that the StarClan warrior who had led Goosepaw to the Moonpool had disappeared. The five of them were left on their own next to the sparkling pool. The black and white cat was sitting next to her, his fluffy coat brushing against her short one. The sensation of finally being able to feel something nearly caused her to purr but she caught herself.

After a few moments Jaggedscar snapped, "just how long does StarClan intend for us to wait?"

"Considering we're dead we have all the time in the world," Aspenflight said to her. It had been the first time Fawnpaw had heard the ThunderClan warrior talk. She realized that she recognized the voice; he had spoken at the last Gathering, telling a tale of he saw SkyClan overstepping their border. ThunderClan's Deputy! Through the heads of much taller cats she had not been able to see the tabby but she knew the voice. StarClan had killed a medicine cat and a deputy now. Fawnpaw couldn't help but be horrified at how their deaths would shake the Clans.

"-and then I fell out of the tree and Wildfur showed up! And then he brought me here!" Goosepaw had been telling the story of how he died to Dapplestream. Fawnpaw, however, hated that she had to agree with Jaggedscar. The SkyClan apprentice had been the last to arrive and that was a while ago. What was taking StarClan so long?

As if on cue a cat appeared before them. She was a dark gray tabby who's pelt gleamed with stars. Fawnpaw had never seen her before when she visited Moonpool on half-moons. Who was she?

"Hello, I am Ashstar." The StarClan cat dipped her head. "Don't fret if you do not know me, I am from a time long past. But that is why you five are here and I am speaking to you. In my time the Clans did not live around this lake, I am sure you all have heard the stories. The Clans lived in a great forest, SkyClan still among them. The five Clans were living in great turmoil, however, not in the relative peace you five live in today.

"As you sit here at Moonpool, in the forest cats visited the Moonstone to commune with StarClan. The great stone was held within a cavern at Mothermouth. At some point, no doubt due to the conflict within the Clans, Moonstone became cracked. No cat in StarClan knows precisely when it happened and perhaps those who committed the deed have stayed silent. When the crack was finally noticed it seemed so small and insignificant no cat was worried.

"However, that crack has grown within the years, something StarClan didn't anticipate. As the crack grew larger StarClan's power has weakened. The crack is seeping power from StarClan. If it continued to persist StarClan will disappear. There is no mending the crack in the Moonstone – we've tried. The only way to save StarClan is to stop the crack from occurring in the first place.

StarClan will use the rest of its' power to transport the five of you back to a time before the crack as occurred. It is your responsibility to figure out what cracked the Moonstone and figure out a way to stop it. Should you falter in your feat StarClan - and the Clans - are doomed. However, should you succeed you will come back here, to your time, and be allowed to return to your bodies.

"StarClan wishes you the best of luck on your journey for if you fail we are doomed."

As Ashstar faded in front of her eyes Fawnpaw found her eyelids drooping. There was nothing she could do to keep her eyes open and everything turned black.
