The first thing Oakworm noticed when he woke up in the morning was how much his wrists hurt. Light fell against his face, and he sleepily opened his eyes, blinking before gently rubbing his orange wrists. "Oakworm? Are you up yet?"His mother called from the kitchen. He groaned, plopping his head back on his soft silk pillow.'Did I pull something playing with Flutter yesterday?' He thought as he begrudgingly climbed out of his bed, carefully making sure the lavender blanket didn't fall on the floor. He winced as he took the first few steps, his wrists crying out in pain as it took his body weight.'Class will not be kind to my poor, poor sore wrists.' He thought, pouting as he walked tenderly down the hall, not pausing to run his talons across the hexagon engravings like he usually did. Oak padded out to the kitchen where his mother, Azure, sat. "Morning mom." Oak said, sitting beside her and looking out into the hive, watching as other dragons shuffled around in their own kitchens.

"Morning" She resonded tensely, glancing at him with an odd expression as she tapped the table with her talons. Oak noticed the dark circles under her eyes, she must be stressed about something again.

"What's wrong?" He asked, not sure if she would tell him.

"Nothing sweetie, don't worry." She said tiredly, getting up and patting him on the head. "Be sure to do your work, and stay out of trouble." Azure added, sounding more like her usual, more energetic, self Oak bit his lips, trying to squash the growing grin."I mean it mister, you have six more months until you get your job, don't mess anything up now."

Oak groaned "You're starting to sound like the teachers at school. Yes, do as you're told, young slikwings, and you may be lucky enough to be assigned to a Lady." He said, mimicking one of his teachers, Mothball.

His mother smiled. "Well, they are right you know. After all, perfect behaviour did get me working under Lady Hornet herself." She squeezed his paw. "Be safe, my little butterfly." She said softly, kissing him on his temple. "Have a good day at school!" Azure called out before walking towards the exit. She jumped, her pale blue wings catching her as she started to fly in the direction of her job. He waited until his mother's wing beats faded into the distance before getting up from the table. Oak walked back down the hallway, going as fast as he could with out his wrists hurting too much. He shoved aside his bed, which was becoming easier each time he did it. He looked around for the string, with a satisfied hum, he grabbed it and yanked up. The hatch flew open, smacking Oakworms paw. He ignored it, staring down at what was inside with a huge grin on his face. Today was going to be a great day.
