" Dad! I'm 16, I'm more than capable of looking after myself!" I argued,
" I have told you that I am not changing my mind, besides, this is not by any means an ordinary knight." He told me . A silence struck as a door opened and there walked in a boy no older than mysef. As he realised it was the wrong room, he bowed in what could only be explained as an apology. My father talked to him in a soft tone, much softer than he did for the others. "By the way, his name is Link , he will be your appointed knight. Just one thing, be nice to him, he has had a bit of a rough life." He mentioned it to me. It can't have been that bad could it? After my father talked to him for a while, he waved to me and left.
The next day, Link was constantly following me around and I yelled at him to go. No luck though, he continued to follow me again and again until he knew I was safe in father's hands but yet without a word. I hated it but I told him to go, he nodded and saluted on his way home. I remember his rather confused face every time I yelled at him but I just thought it was attention seeking so I ignored it.
A month later, we were out checking the shrines. I knew I would not have any luck with conversation so I stated thoughts out loud. Every time I looked back I saw him nodding his head. After a while, I had it and told him to speak or else I would make him redundant. Before I knew it, he gave everything to me and ran off. I tried calling him back but no luck. He was really gone. As I walked into the room with my father, he was mad. " Zelda? Where is Link?
" He ran off and gave all his belongings to me." I saw rage build up in his eyes,
" What did you do?" He asked with rage.
" I made him redundant. He would not speak! "
He was furious with me now. We argued for a while until there was a knock on the door. Father answered it and there Link stood but, he constantly avoided eye contact with me. I overheard my dad's conversation with another knight saying that link was fighting off mobs to calm himself down. The knight left and then Link sat down at the table with us. He constantly tried to hold back his tears in front of me. The fact that it was a soldier bringing him in must have been terrifying for anyone really. My father explained that I tend to say things I don't mean, which is true. Link only acted in confusion as I yelled at him earlier, dad picked up on this and then asked me to apologise which I denied to do because I was certain he would never forgive me. As I ran out the room, Link followed me and sat me down and did random hand motions. I didn't understand what he was trying to say but, I believe he said that he forgave my actions. We walked back into the room in silence. After he left, I studied the hand motions and it was the heros' sign - a language everyone of Link's bloodline used to communicate. Only through this, we started to learn things about each other we did not know before. Like, he adored cooking, he loved blue and green and had a horse called Epona, yet I never knew what he said that night.
But as things started to go well, the karma of my old actions bit back and caused him to pass out on top of me. I only knew he was alive due to the fact that his sword… it was flashing! There was only one explanation, it was the master sword! I hoped to ask him about it when he arrived before me once again. 1 year passed until he was before me with the sacred sword once again. When I asked through our usual form of communication, his memory was permanently lost, he said he would go into more detail later. And he explained everything to me. I told him everything he forgot, even the terrible things I said to him. He did not mind though. After all, he wanted his memory back. And from there, our relationship continued to blossom and even now, he never leaves my side. If I knew in the past that it would turn out like this, I highly doubt I would care. His voice was…. A powerful silence.
