(Chapter 7: The battle continues in Savannah, denying reality)
Sam had escaped the doomed building before Laura could, Kenny was running alongside Laura down the hall as the floor beneath them caved in and chunks of rubble fell from the ceiling, the both of them lucky that they weren't crushed. The building continued to fall apart on the inside, the steel groaning and creaking louder than before. Running through the smoking building stung their eyes and choked them, but they were determined to survive this whole ordeal.
"We aren't going to make it, Laura. Follow me!" Kenny screamed as he began to make a mad dash towards the window, Laura rushed after him but was quick to ask why the two would be doing a very risky move.
"So we're going to kill ourselves!?" She screamed, a hint of fear in her voice.
"No, the fall isn't that long at this point. We'll survive, but we'll be hurt as fuck!" Kenny screamed as he got closer to the window, suddenly a large piece of debris fell down in Laura's front as Kenny jumped out the window..
"No, Kenny!" Laura cried out in horror, maneuvering around the piece of debris, hurling herself through the window in pursuit of her lover. She fell through the air and slammed into a pile of rubble hard, rolling down the hill of debris and causing a slight avalanche. The impact of her landing knocking the wind out of her, damn near knocking her out cold. The whole world spun around her as Kenny was laying on his back, just as dazed and confused as she was.
Kenny's body was broken and bruised, some parts were bloody from earlier fights with Jerome Hunter. He groaned in agony and slowly glanced over to his side, seeing Laura buried beneath a small chunk of rubble. Her beautiful blonde hair turned grey from ash and soot of the doomed building, her face appeared to be bruised and scarred in some places. A bloody cut had been opened, it would require a large stitch running down her face to sew it up. Her pretty face and her beauty would be forever tarnished by the stitch that would eventually be put on.
"Laura, what happened to Ford? Where is h-he?" Kenny struggled to speak, Laura groaned and turned her head over to face her lover.
"He's gone, he's dead.. F-Ford is dead, d...Don't you remember?" Laura answered weakly, the eyes of Kenny went wide from shock.
"No way.." Kenny groaned, refusing to believe her.
"Y-you're kidding me.."
"No Kenny, no I'm n-not.." Laura struggled to speak, her lips quivering as the loss of their general began to dawn on both of them.
Kenny groaned as he crawled over to her, grabbing hold of her arms, pulling her free from the rubble trap. Holding her body in the bridal carry as he remained on his knees, desperately looking around for a place to escape to. He spoke to Brayden Snow through his transceiver.
"I'm going to need you two to get here as quick as you can, we're all hurt and injured. Some of us may be running out of time to get help.." Kenny explained to Brayden through the transceiver.
Vergil had a fearful look on his face, terrible thoughts plaguing his mind, some of them turned out to be true. It was true that Ford was dead, it was true that Savannah would never be the same again.
"We're on our way." Brayden answered as he motioned for Vergil to follow after him into a boat at the bottom of the hill that they stood uptop. Not too far away was Andy Williams and Alan Haas.
Alan Haas was holding a damaged Andy Williams in his arms, their armor and clothing had been tattered and torn in several places. Blood and bruises covered their bodies, the scene of Savannah was apocalyptic. The skyline was a fiery glow, the city was in shambles with several thousand people dead and dying.
The scent of smoke choked them out and stung their eyes, but they were trained to suffer like these times. A nasty scar had been sliced down the left eye of Andy, blood entering his vision, all he could see was red. The cut was above his brow and it missed the eyeball, slicing into his cheek all the way down to the nose. The scar would be permanent.
"God help us… What of the others, Haas?" Andy groaned in agony, pain wracked his body from head to toe, he had fallen from a crumbling building, lucky to be alive as small debris pounded his body after he had hit the ground.
"Ford's gone into a building somewhere, Floyd was in it and he went to fight him. I've lost contact, trying again in a minute. I've got no idea what is going on with the others, I've lost contact with Kenny and Laura for the past twenty minutes." Alan answered.
"Any eyes on Floyd?" Brayden Snow's voice asked into the transceiver, his voice crackly and breaking due to the device being nearly destroyed.
"No, a fucking building collapsed right in front of me. I can't feel any damn thing, every time I move, pain strikes me!" Alan struggled to answer as another pounding surge of pain wracked his body once again, Andy Willians leaned towards the transceiver laying next to Haas.
"Ford told me that he was going to fight Floyd like ten minutes ago, not a single word had been uttered from his side of the line since then." Andy continued to explain, Brayden Snow and his brother Vergil Snow stood at a safe distance on Skidaway Island. The Snow Brothers would be used as emergency aid, and now they were riding boats towards Savannah, GA.
A thunderous boom rocked the entire city that was still aflame, a massive fireball formed above a fallen building, casting the silhouettes of two Godzillas within the blackened smoke.
There was a loud screeching metallic roar, and a mechanized giant emerged from the smoke a couple hundred meters from Godzilla. Kenny and Laura slowly turned to face where the metallic roar came from, and there around nine hundred and fifty meters to their right, was a MechaGodzilla. The sky was black, fires were all around them. Whatever city they were in, had been totally reduced to either smoldering rubble, or smoldering ruins.
"Dear God.. What has APEX done?" Laura asked to Kenny, her voice sounded like it was in shock and awe of this mechanical goliath.
Kenny noticed a symbol on MechaGodzilla's arm, it wasn't the symbol for APEX. It wasn't the symbol for any organization that involved titans on Earth, which meant that this MechaGodzilla had arrived from space..
"Apex had nothing to do with it, it isn't of this Earth." Kenny said, then Godzilla's mighty roar boomed across the destroyed city. The heat of the widespread fires beating upon the two generals, there was the hum of radiation as the king of the monsters charged up his atomic ray.
MechaGodzilla performed his loud metallic screech and his eyes started to flash different colors as Godzilla's spines continued to grow higher and higher, the hum intensifying. Kenny held Laura as the two got as close to the ground as possible, the atomic ray firing at full power towards MechaGodzilla. The steel doppelganger unleashed an optical multi-colored ray from his orange light eyes, the same beam coming out of both eyes and merging into one. Giant red sparks were wrapping around the multicolored beam as it rushed at Godzilla's atomic ray.
The two beams slammed into each other, and a loud explosion occurred. The fireball was so massive that it just barely grazed the tactical vest of Kenny, but as it shot down at the two generals, Laura screamed in horror as it approached.
There was orange embers of fire in Kenny's hair as he protected Laura from the fireball. The rest of his tactical vest was burned away and his shirt was torn even more, revealing the toned muscles beneath it. With the way Kenny was laying, Laura thought of him to be dead. His eyes were closed and his body had gone limp, but he was just knocked out.
"Kenny..Kenny!?" Laura cried, wanting him to still be alive. She shook his body, he didn't move and he remained knocked out. She inched her way out from under her best friend's body, grunting loudly with effort as she slowly wiggled out from underneath Kenny.
Once the blonde was out from under him, she heaved his body into her arms and looked around frantically. The only thing that was around her was fire and smoke, the rancid, yet powerful stench of the thick black smoke caused Laura to stay on her knees. Since the majority of the city had been reduced to smoking or flaming ruins, there was little to no hope of her getting out of this situation.
There was a loud thunderous echo that was Godzilla's footsteps, he began his march towards his metal look alike. Laura could see his silhouette lumbering towards her, to see a 393 foot giant slowly approaching was menacing, chills ran down her spine as the loud hum of radiation was heard from Godzilla's body.
MechaGodzilla let out his ear piercing shriek of a roar, that Godzilla could be heard growling out in response. Laura hooked her arms underneath Kenny's in a full nelson style hold and pushed herself and Kenny back with her strong legs, there were several loud whistles in the air, like fireworks screeching as they shot into the sky, but several times louder. These were missiles, they all slammed into Godzilla's chest as he continued to march towards MechaGodzilla. The king of the monsters looked down at his body as the missiles slammed into him.
Once the missiles connected, Godzilla let out a loud roar as he began to charge right for his metallic doppelganger. He charged right through another barrage of missiles, they did absolutely nothing to the saurian titan as he charged forth. A huge cloud of dust soon engulfed Laura and Kenny, shrouding them in darkness once again as Godzilla past by them.
The Big G had a hunch that this was some type of mechanical version of him, and his thoughts were revealed to be true. His heavy body slammed into his metallic doppelganger once again, knocking it back but it remained on the feet.
Godzilla growled furiously and charged in again, still trying to knock down his foe until MechaGodzilla delivered a strike right into the Big G's gills in a jabbing motion with his metallic fingers poking outward, Godzilla let out a roar of pain and reeled back away from his metal doppelganger.
MechaGodzilla aimed his arms outward and suddenly, his fingers began to launch off! One by one, large missiles pounded into the King of the Monsters with surprising results as they appeared to cause Godzilla some slight pain. As they connected to his body, he collapsed, crushing a building beneath him before rolling over onto his stomach with MechaGodzilla now looming over him.
His spines began to glow blue, a loud hum intensifying as it traveled up his back. His eyes began to flash blue as well, cracks in his gills had a teal glow to them. MechaGodzilla then fired a multicolored beam from his eyes, Godzilla dodged and fired his atomic ray right into the chest of his enemy, causing bright sparks to fly off of the chest.
Godzilla snarled and rose back up to his feet, he wasn't done with his atomic breath just yet. His blue spines flashing some as he now charged at the stunned MechaGodzilla, the cyborg goliath was standing by the ocean on Tybee Island now as their fight had raged out of the boundaries of the flaming city.
MechaGodzilla jumped up and over Godzilla, performing a great vertical leap, jumping a great six hundred feet into the air before slamming down hard onto the ground behind Godzilla, a thunderous boom rocked out when his feet struck the ground. Godzilla stopped himself and quickly turned around, firing his atomic beam at MechaGodzilla yet again!
MechaGodzilla fired his optical multi-colored beam right back at his titan foe, the beams clashed yet again. The only downside to this beam clash is that both beams seemed to be the same power, to make matters worse, the two titans were standing too close to one another. Since the pressure was too great for the beams to handle, a blinding flash rocketed from between the two and then traveled high into the air.
Godzilla was damaged severely, just a tad bit less from the Oxygen Destroyer Prototype in which was used on him in 2019. He let out a weak groan and slowly collapsed into the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, large waves crashing over his body as he sank beneath the waves. His spines slowly vanishing out of sight, a calming silence fell upon the burning Savannah, Georgia.
MechaGodzilla froze in place, sparks flying out from his head in which appeared to be glitching out. The great machine's computers and various systems decided that it was time to leave this place, and to travel over towards the hangar at Mount Everest. The head of the mechanical goliath looked up to the inky black skies and then lunged high into the air, plumes of fire shot out from the bottoms of his feet as he soared into the sky, going above the clouds and on the verge of space. His destructive rampage was over, for now...
The silence that was hanging on the burning city of Savannah, Georgia was strangely calming and not suitable for what just happened. Thunder boomed in the distance, one could only hope that the rains or whatever this storm would bring, would calm down the fires. Sirens were heard far away, the first responders were on their way, but their chances of putting out the firestorm would be slim to none.
Sam emerged from the darkness, he was hiding and crying to himself hysterically ever since he seen his father slip off the edge of the building. He quietly questioned what he seen, and the things he was going through. He lost his mother just a year ago, now his father? There's no way..
"Dad!" Sam called out, Laura responded after slowly climbing back to her feet.
"Sam, look up there!" She screamed, Sam followed her voice and came out to the street, turning his head to where she was pointing. She noticed a body impaled by a sharp piece of debris in which was sticking out of the ground.
"DAD!" Sam exclaimed in horror, rushing up the hill, nearly slipping a few times. The sight of his father was sickening..
His dad had been brutally impaled by this long rusty piece of sharp rubble in which was sticking out of the hill of rubble from another fallen building, it had broken his fall initially, but he was still fatally wounded. His intestines, both large and small, were wrapped around the long piece of rubble. The rusty brown color had turned into a shade of red from Ford's blood. The crimson liquid was trickling out of his mouth, surprisingly he was still alive, but just barely.
Sam held his father's head in his arms, he wouldn't be able to remove him from this pole as he was all the way at the bottom of it now. Tears of horror and sorrow streamed down his face, his father was doomed to perish.
"Dad..." Sam continued in a soft tone of voice, Ford slowly lifted his head up and went to say something but he was so weak, words couldn't get through his lips. He was straining to even say something, words never came out as his eyes closed. Ford's final moments in life, was him struggling to speak since he was so wounded..
Sam couldn't cry, he didn't feel any emotions. He sat there at the top of the hill, on his knees. Another realization dawned on him, he also lost his beloved girlfriend, Destanee. Her beautiful body was within the fallen rubble of the building, he shook his head in disbelief as his right eye began to twitch rapidly.
He never got the chance to see his grandfather or grandmother, he lost his mother a year ago, and now he lost his father and girlfriend all in the same night. Poor Sam felt that everything would always be like this for him, everything being ripped from him way too early.
Lightning flashed followed by a loud thunderclap, torrential rainfall began to pound Savannah, helping the city out by destroying some of the fires. Sam remained on his knees, weeping heavily now while a sorrowful Kenny and Laura watched from down below. Laura crying into Kenny's shoulder as he put his arm gently around her shoulders, while the blonde haired beautiful colonel sobbed hysterically into his shoulders, Kenny knew that men aren't supposed to cry, but a single tear rolled down his cheek...
(Later that night)
(Location: Mount Everest)
Large snow covered blast doors slowly opened with a loud hum, MechaGodzilla descending down from the skies. The Black Hole alien engineers quickly going to work at repairing their weapon's controls and systems within its body. One of the head mechanics received a message from Ren Serizawa, who was still residing somewhere within the Hollow Earth.
"Boy do I have good news.." Ren said with a sinister tone in his voice, a smirk came to the simian face of the sagoth mechanic.
"Ford Brody, the leader of our enemy, has perished. I've been hearing news from Alan Jonah, that he's seen reports of Savannah to never be rebuilt. It will remain nothing more than charred ruins of what was once a beautiful city. Countless bodies will be picked from the ashes, buried in a mass grave on Skidaway Island. Godzilla has gone off of the radar, his vitals are really low." Ren went on to explain, this shocked a few of the sagoths and black hole aliens within the room.
At first, Ren couldn't believe it either, but more and more news was received from Alan Jonah, who was remaining on the overworld.
"I promise to all of you, soon, the overlands will belong to us.."
(Location: Monster Island)
Kong had sensed what was going on, having telepathic visions of the battle in Savannah. The great ape wanted to help so badly, but given how he was easily manhandled by MechaGodzilla's mimic form, it was reasonable to sit it out until further notice.
Kong's eyes caught notice of the waves swelling, large jagged crystalline spines jetted out of the water as Godzilla began to get closer. The Guardian of Monster Island knew that this Godzilla was the real one, his senses alerted him. Another perpetual storm system had begun to form around Monster Island, it had been several years since Ghidorah's rampage, where his tropical storm threw the whole weather around the world off balance.
Nature was starting to get back to normal, and so was the weather. As Godzilla swam towards the rocky shores of the island, he could see multiple bolts of lightning striking around Kong's area, he could see the silhouette of the great ape.
The Big G was relieved to see an ally was still standing, not yet killed by MechaGodzilla. Although the King of the Monsters dreaded how many other allies his metal doppelganger had destroyed within the Hollow Earth.
Godzilla finally arrived on the rocky shores, slowly rising up to his clawed feet. It was a chore to even stand, he was so damaged that it was a struggle to even get back up into a vertical base. His pillar like legs trembled and shook, Kong could see based on his ally's exhausted movements, that he and MechaGodzilla had quite a battle.
The King of the Monsters suddenly collapsed onto his stomach with a loud boom, Kong approached his unconscious fellow titan, and knelt down next to him. Placing his large hand on the saurian's head, transporting telepathic thoughts onto Godzilla.
The two of them would have to stand and fight with MechaGodzilla, in Kong's vision, he also seen a four legged titan that was siding with the two kings of monster kind against the metallic enemy. Kong had no idea what King Caesar was, but Godzilla had some memories of him, very few at that. Kong could only hope that Godzilla was refueled with some sort of energy before it was too late..
(Jayanti River, India)
Mark Russel along with Madison Russel had traveled into King Caesar's chamber, the priestess and her father had alarming news. King Caesar's heart was pounding, his teeth were bared, a low growling noise coming from within him. His ears vibrating and then pointing backwards, he had been growing more tense ever since MechaGodzilla laid waist to Savannah, Georgia.
With MechaGodzilla residing in the chamber at Mount Everest, he had grown even more tense.
"King Caesar is acting up, if he grows anymore restless, he will forcefully wake up." The priest said in a concerned tone.
"Well, what happens if he does?" Mark asked with a worried tone in his voice.
"He will destroy everything in this area in a rage.." The priestess explained, Madison looked worried now. The tension was broken when Mark's phone began to ring.
However, the news in which was about to be delivered to Mark, it wasn't going to be good.
"Mark, I've got some bad news." The voice of Brayden Snow warned, Mark Russel's heart dropped, Brayden's voice was one of seriousness and it didn't seem good at all.
"What is it? Just tell me.."
"Ford Brody, he's... he's gone. There was a titan attack in Georgia tonight and he sacrificed his life to protect his son, that titan is still on the loose. We've lost track of Godzilla's vitals. Germaine Noyala of our squadron has gone missing, a slew of us are seriously injured.." Brayden explained, his sentence was suddenly stopped by Mark Russel who decided to chime in.
"Are you kidding me!?" Mark screamed, his emotions getting the better of him.
"You let that monster get away, please tell me that you've been tracking it down or following it.." Mark continued, placing the face into the palm of his hand.
"We don't have time, two of our Skull Squadron is in the ICU. A few others are going to need stitches and casts, all of us are out of action. Me and my brother are the only two members that can stand easily without feeling any sort of pain." Brayden explained, Mark let out a sarcastic laugh of disbelief, finding this situation to be absolutely ridiculous.
"So almost all of the best G-Team members are in moderate to critical condition? I guess we're fucked then, aren't we?" Mark growled, Brayden sighed on the other line.
"With the way things are looking, I'd say yes. We're screwed unless a miracle can save us or that monster was damaged by his fight with Godzilla." Brayden answered, Mark shook his head.
"Well, that is so damn comforting." Mark spat, Brayden wasn't going to hear more of Mr. Russel's mouth, so he hung up without saying anything.
(Location: Outpost 54)
The whole outpost had fallen silent, Ford Brody's death was a major blow to them all. Some were silent out of respect for the fallen general, some were silent because they had no words to describe the way they was feeling.
Of the Skull Squadron, only Brayden Snow remained in near perfect condition. Perhaps Germaine Noyala was alright, but he hadn't returned to the flagship facility in several hours, nor did the outpost receive any messages or calls. Vergil Snow, was in training to be part of the squadron but he was still a recruit level soldier. He still had to go through the rigorous training, the one that would really push him to his limits and beyond, he managed to get out of basic training.
Carson Michaels had no partner to spar or train with, Laura was his primary mentor. Vergil's mentor was his brother, with Germaine being presumed dead, perhaps new additions to the special squadron would be alright.
As Brayden Snow sat at a desk in his room within the barracks of Outpost 54, he let out a sigh. Even though the Skull Squadron had several members still alive, he was surprised that the others didn't betray the team yet. Jerome Hunter was the first to be brainwashed by the ERR, then it was Kaiyo Hanson, then it was Ren Serizawa. He could only hope that Germaine wouldn't fall into the wrong hands either..
Vergil sat on the bed nearby, looking down at the floor with a defeated look on his face.
"Brayden, how many more have to die? How many more of us have to perish before this ends?" Vergil asked softly.
"We can pray, brother. We can pray that this will end alright, we have to come back from this stronger. Be thankful that all we know in the squadron are still with us." Brayden answered.
"What about everything that was stolen from the GDF base? We can't get those back.." Vergil asked.
"You're right, but they can be replaced. I would go after those sons of bitches, but we are all in bad condition right now." Brayden said.
"I'm losing hope, city after city is being destroyed across America every year at this point. Thousands of lives are dying because of this in quick succession every year, hundreds more are dying due to indirect causes linked to their homes being demolished. I really hope that Germaine comes back."
"I hope he does too, Vergil."
One wing down from the barracks was the medical wing, the friends Alan Haas an Andy Williams were laying in hospital beds aside from each other. Both having a conversation with another.
"That was a close one.." Andy groaned, looking over at Alan who still had his fancy looking mask on.
"It was, now you know how it feels to be close to death." He answered.
"Yeah, this was probably our most deadliest mission yet."
"I'm starting to think that we should just give up on this battle against the ERR, and the Red Bamboo, if the RB is even a faction against us anymore. Almost every government across the world is against us, more and more hired guns are going to try to kill us." Alan growled, his hand balling up into a fist.
"No, we can't just give up after all the training we've done to get where we are. All the good deeds we've done will be in vain." Andy reassured.
"It's just that I'm tired of losing people left and right, we lost Jackson Barnes, Diane Foster, Germaine is missing, Jerome betrayed us, and now our general is fucking gone. The one who was with us at the very beginning, died mere hours ago thanks to a man that we've been hunting for years."
"Don't worry man, we're going to get through this. We probably just need a hiatus or something." Andy said.
"Man, we're gonna be on hiatus with our broken bodies. We can't do practically anything in the condition we're in.."
Down the hall from the ICU was the rooms containing Laura and Kenny.
Laura was laying silently on her bed, out of everyone that was damaged in the skirmish of Savannah, she was the least damaged right next to the Snow Brothers.
Now that she was at a comfortable place, everything that took place earlier on that night began to dawn on her. She started to take everything in, and it was too much for her. She shook her head and silently wept to herself, fearing what will become of the Skull Squadron without Ford Brody now that he was gone for good..
She began to text Kenny, on how she was feeling now that everything had come to pass with the skirmish in Savannah being over. In the back of her mind, she knew that the enemy monster was still out there.
"Kenny, where do we go from here?" She texted, Kenny was quick to respond.
"We go forward, at this point we can't go back, Ford wouldn't want us to quit on him."
"We've got nobody left, or it feels as though I've got nobody. General Brody and Jackson Barnes were our mentors, it feels like there's nothing left." Laura typed in response to Kenny's reassuring words as a few tears rolled down her cheeks.
"Laura, you've got me. I'm always here for you, I gave you my shoulder for you to cry on. I'll stand by you when things are rough like this." Kenny typed back, these words warmed Laura's heart, she began to weep some more.
"Thanks, Kenny. I needed that." Laura typed back.
"No problem babe, MechaGodzilla is still out there somewhere. So we need to heal and rest as long as we can."
"Who is going to train Carson? We will need to do some training ourselves in order to get back to where we were before, physical therapy. By that point, it will be too late for us to stop MechaGodzilla.." Laura texted back.
"Carson can wait, and we aren't going to be able to do anything against MechaGodzilla. From here on out until we get better, we need to leave this in the hands of the titans.."
A/N: Two chapters in a row in one day!? I haven't done this since I wrote my Godzilla vs Kong story back in the year of 2017! You don't want to miss next chapter, King Caesar and Mecha-G are about to throw down! Don't be down in the dumps over losing Ford either, I've got a surprise at the end of this story that may shock you. I will bring in a character that should be familiar to you all if you have seen other Godzilla films ;)...
