Walking… walking, the immense silence as we walked down the aged stairs. Link was silently walking next to me, it was pitch black walking down the seemingly endless staircase. Only the light of his torch guided us down safely, none of us knew what we would find but our curiosity led us down further into the darkness. He gave me the signal that we had made it down, I could only nod because I was nervous. Link broke the silence after a while walking by pulling out his sword as if ready to attack any threat. Before my very eyes, he attacked the monster head on with extreme accuracy. I was frozen on the spot for a split second in amazement, he fought all his opponents with extreme accuracy every time. I spoke too soon after I heard a crack followed by Link dropping his sword, he held his hand in discomfort. His hand was swollen and awkwardly bent too far left, I patched it up temporarily until we could get help. We sat down for a while after patching it up. I caught him trying to praise the restrain off, I told him it was to keep his hand in a natural position until we can get it sorted out. He nodded and tried to pick his sword up but only failed due to his injury, he didn't understand why he couldn't pick up his own sword. I couldn't blame him really, after all he maintained an extensive amount of damage to his hand he would be confused as to why he can't pick up anything. We carried on walking defenseless against all dangers, I was extremely concerned about his injury and worried about it constantly. He obviously picked up on this and single- handedly signed that he was ok and not to worry about him. I smiled as we carried on down the tunnel.
After walking for ages, we finally got to the dead end of the tunnel only to be met by hordes of monsters. Link attempted to pick up his sword once again this time in success, I could hear pain in his battle cries but yet he carried on forcing himself to fight. After the immense fight, he paid the price and was in agonising pain, after a couple fights. I eventually put his arm up in a sling in an attempt to stop the pain at least a little, after this a spirit appeared and explained that he witnessed all the acts of kindness we have done. I asked if he could help with Link's arm, but they said that it would be wise to get him to a doctor as soon as we are out of here because it was causing him terrible pain. I agreed, then they turned to Link and asked him on a scale of 1-10 how painful was it, yet no reply. " Oh, so he is a silent one is he? " the spirit asked me. I nodded and said that this is normal for him, going day and night without a word slipping from his mouth. The spirit turned to me and replied " You have not always accepted him this way though have you? You always took your own anger out on him didn't you? " I accepted what they said was true, but I treated him fairly now and that is all that mattered. They stated that Link stopped outwardly expressing himself after his father's death and his sister's disappearance. He was orphaned for 2 years before being taken in by the royal guard for killing off 3 camps of monsters with only a few minor injuries. His sister is still missing to this day, he deeply misses her. The same event replays over and over again in his head yet never tells anyone. I froze after they stated this, Link was going through all this yet I never knew… a memory replayed in my head, it was father saying to be nice to him, which I never did at that point. This is what he meant… I now understand. I pounced on him and said that I was sorry for the old times where I never considered his feelings. He let out a painful scream to let me know I was putting my full weight on his injured arm. I apologised, he seemed to accept my apology.
We left after a while as fast as possible so he could get the medical help he needed, we found out that he broke his entire right hand and will be unusable for at least 6 months. I agreed to stay at his place until he healed up, he always tried to help but I said no constantly because I cared about him. Father visits sometimes to check up on him to make sure he is not doing anything he is not supposed to. Even he can vouch for the fact that Link always tries to sneak out to practice sword fights. This event was unforgettable.
