Welcome to chapter 2!

In this chapter we have a grown a teenage Xander, this is a few years before Crisis Core.

Another thing, for those who want to know how Xander's ears look then think of half-elves or pixie ears where they have the normal bottom human half of the ears while the upper bit is pointed but slightly, you get what I mean right? Or look up Swallow pixie ears on the SecondLife Marketplace. Just for those who wished to know. ;)

I will also be adding what Xander looks like on the Story cover, he has emerald green eyes if you can't see them.

Chapter 2: 17 years later

MIDGAR

It was early morning in Midgar with many people waking up to start the day, among many were in the slums.

In the slums was a church which was run down but not enough to collapse, inside the church the soft sound of music could be heard.

Inside the Church sitting in the center of a patch of flowers was the source of the music, a young male around 19-years-old with shoulder-length golden blonde hair kept tied back with a white ribbon. His eyes were shut as he played on his flute which was made from wood with silvervine engravements. (He has a Bansuri type flute in looks)

He had a lean runner build with toned muscles developing under his clothing, he had a white T-shirt on with a pair of brown pants and black boots along with a brown belt. This showed off his figure too, with a lean waist and broad shoulders, his skin was fair as the sunlight hit him, he was handsome for his age with an almost noble-looking face that was sharp and kind.

He stopped as a sound reached his ears.

"Morning Aerith, sleep well?" Xander asked as he paused in his flute playing.

"I sure did, Mother has left for work," Aerith said as she walked over to her brother.

Their mother had gotten a job as a teacher for a school in the slums, many children loved her and playing with 'Aunt' Aerith and 'Uncle' Xander when they dropped by to help.

"I see," Xander said as he put his flute away inside his pants.

He watched as Aerith walked over to him.

"Can I see them?" Aerith asked as Xander smirks leaning forward a bit and released his wings from his back.

Aerith smiles as she moved to stroke the soft wings, she loved to cuddle with Xander when he had his wings out which was rare because of the Turks roaming around. Xander humms as he enjoyed the feeling while he could, he chuckled a bit as Aerith moved onto his hair and took the ribbon out. His hair fell on his shoulders just in the middle of them, he grunts a bit as Aerith played with his hair.

She was careful not to touch his slightly pointed ears, they were sensitive and Xander hated it when people suddenly touched his ears out of nowhere. She added in a few small braids until they had to stop the cuddle sibling session since they had jobs to do, Xander smiles as he put on a brown leather coat while Aerith went over to the flowers to tend to them.

"I'm heading out sis! Stay safe!" Xander yelled as he put his hair back into a ponytail with braids included.

"You too! Stay safe!" Aerith yelled as Xander left to start his day.

2 HOURS LATER

Xander chuckles as he walked through the slums, he had just finished helping some teenagers repair some broken walls from a recent monster attack. Thankfully monster attacks were rare but they still caused a lot of damage.

"Let's hope the next attack is not happening anytime soon," Xander said to himself as he walked.

He was just about to take a turn down an alleyway when a yell caught his attention, thinking it was one of the locals in danger he ran over to help only to skid to a stop when he saw something that stunned him.

The 1st class SOLDIER Genesis was facing a group of six men in Wutai gear, the soldier himself was clutching his shoulder in pain. Even from here, Xander could see the blood under the red jacket he wore, for some reason that made him mad.

Xander shook it off being angry was not gonna help the situation, it was clear that Genesis wasn't in top form. If the news had been correct than the 1st Class SOLDIERS had recently returned from a victory against some Wutai forces, this would account for how tired Genesis looked.

'He needs help, well, time to step in' Xander thought as he pulled out a smoke grenade a close friend gave him.

"Hey!" Xander yelled as he pulled the pin and threw the grenade.

The effect was instant as smoke covered the group, coughing was heard as Xander rushed into the smoke and grabbed Genesis's hand he then took off running into one of the many alleyways. Along the way Xander pulled out a phone and sent a quick text, he then put the phone away as he leads Genesis down another alley.

"Hey! What? Can you slow down!" Genesis said as he fought back a wince, his shoulder was killing him.

Xander came to a stop while releasing Genesis's hand, he looks around before nodding. He looked back at the first class, he had to admit the guy did pretty well in keeping up with him despite being tired and injured. He watched as Genesis leaned on his knees panting, looking over to the street be nods before looking back at the SOLDIER.

"Get some rest and have that shoulder looked at in the meantime," Xander said as he moved past Genesis who lifted his head as Xander finished peaking "Until we meet again, Genesis,"

Xander then took off in a run as Genesis spun around only to see blonde hair vanish around a corner, he ran over to try and catch him but saw nothing. Genesis growls as he looked around only to wince and hold his shoulder, damn those Wutai troops! He sighs turning around and walking out of the alleyway, he would find the person who helped him later he needed to thank them.

Genesis paused as he saw himself near the center of Midgard, looks like his helper knew some shortcuts it seems.

'I'll have to ask him for some' Genesis thought as he made his way over to meet up with the patrol unit in this sector and get his shoulder healed.

BACK WITH XANDER

Xander had just returned to where the Wutai soldiers were only to chuckle as he saw them on the ground out cold and twitching slightly, he shook his head before looking at the source of why the Wutai soldiers were currently taking a nap.

"Hey Xander," A male said as he stood looking a katana over.

He looked to be 18-years-old with tanned skin and muscular build, his hair was brown with the tips of his hair having a faint reddish tinge to it. His golden eyes looked around with disinterest as he put his sword back on his hip, his clothing was casual with the exception of the armor on his hips. He then stretched making his sleeves move down a bit but just enough to show part of a tattoo on his left arm. (Looks like Ookurikara off Touken Ranbu, the game but the anime is okay too and if you want to see his body build just look up Ookurikara shirtless ;), you won't be disappointed he also has Ookurikara's 'basic normal' outfit minus the necklace)

This man was Orion Kanbara, he was one of Xander's friends and 'guards' after proving his loyalty to Xander's mother. In turn, Minerva gave him his Katana called Sounga which can change forms when Orion unleashes his full power. She also awoke his ancient Cetra blood lying dormant in his blood, he now has his own unique power that he alone can use.

"I see you took care of them?" Xander asked a chuckle rang out from a person walking over in a nice black suit.

"We did, tough Eric took out most of them," The man said as he pulled a pair of black gloves tighter on his hands.

This man looked to be 19-years-old with chin-length black hair and golden eyes, his build was that a runner with toned muscles that showed he leans a bit more towards speed but still pack a lot of strength in his body. His right eye though was hidden by an eye patch, he smirks as he dusted off his suit. (Looks like Shokudaikiri Mitsutada off Touken Ranbu with his outfit being his 'basic normal' outfit minis the armor)

This was Duke Kurosaki, Orion's cousin, he like Orion was one of Xander's friends and 'guards' after helping his cousin protect Xander. He became half-cetra and gained a very interesting ability which he puts to very good use, Orion rolled his eyes while crossing his arms.

'Come to think of it, where is Eric?' Xander thought looking around for the male which his friends picked up on.

"He's just taking care of a runner," A voice said making the guys look over to see another male walk over.

He looked to be 19-years-old with short and spiky red hair with fair skin, he had a grin showing slightly sharp teeth. His eyes were very interesting, his left eye was red while his right eye was silver with the white's of his eye being black. His left ear had an assortment of piercings in them, he had a lean build with toned muscles and his clothing consisted of a white top with a black tank top under it and blue jeans with black trainers, brown belt, black fingerless gloves, and a black jacket. Strapped onto his waist were a katana and a gun. (He looks like Chara from Criminale! Keep your lovers close. Keep your enemies closer, only minus the piercing on his chest)

This was Victor Elymas, he was like Duke and Orion, his eye was the way it was after an accident with mako caused some pigment damage and it healed that way. Though his abilities gifted to him from Xander's mother allowed him to use his eyes with his abilities, he was also a bit crazy from time to time.

"You read me again didn't you?" Xander asked with a chuckle making Victor smirk.

"Yep, oh, we should also leave before the Turks turn up," Victor said making everyone nod and move out.

Meanwhile, Eric Elymas, Victor's adopted brother, was chasing the fleeing Wutai soldier his shoulder-length white hair flowing behind him and a single braid on the left side of his face. He had a fair skin tone with silver eyes, his body build was that a runner with toned muscles. He had on a white button-up shirt with a silver waistcoat and black jeans with brown shoes and a brown belt, he had on black gloves and black fedora hat with a silver ribbon on it and a white suit jacket. (He looks like Tempesta off Criminale! Keep your lovers close. Keep your enemies closer as well only his hair reaches his shoulders)

Eric, who was the same age as Victor and like his brother was changed and had his own abilities, smirks as he cornered the Wutai spy. He chuckles giving a sly smirk as he reached into his jacket and pulled out a handgun with a silencer, he was the sly and ruthless one while Victor was the sly and crazy one.

"Hm, you lead me on quite the chase, it was fun but sadly I can't let any loose ends endanger our friends," Eric said as he pointed his gun at the man and without a hint of hesitation, he fired killing the man.

Putting his gun away he walked away and made his way home.

A FEW DAYS LATER

Genesis hums as he walked through Midgar, he was below the plate and currently looking for the one who helped him a couple of days ago. It was proving to be a challenge but he was close, he took a turn and went back to the place where he encountered the Wutai troops. He wanted to reclaim his phone that he was sure he dropped there first.

He paused when he heard laughter, looking he saw a group of children crowding around a young man. When his eyes looked at the man's face he felt his mouth go dry, golden blonde hair, emerald green eyes, it was him. The one that helped him, what were the chances of that? Genesis shook his head as he walked over and listened in.

"Uncle Xander, can you play the flute for us?" A little girl asked making the man, Xander, smile softly.

"Sorry, Jess, I left it at home today," Xander said as he ruffled the girl's hair, so his savior's name was Xander? Not a bad name.

"Are you gonna teach us how to use ma-matri? Ma?" The young boy asked thought he struggled to say the word making Genesis chuckle and step forward.

"Materia," He said making the boy nod.

"Yeah, that!" He said with a smile only to go wide-eyed with the other kids as they spun around to see a smirking Genesis as Xander looks up a bit surprised himself.

"Y-Your Genesis! A SOLDIER," A little girl said as Genesis walked over, Xander stood up showing that he was the same height as Genesis.

"Correct, but back to your question you are a bit too young to use materia," Genesis said as Xander gave a small smile.

"Yes, he is correct, why don't you guys go and visit Aerith? She's got some new flowers to show you," Xander said making the children run off with yelling and laughter.

"So, your the one that helped me a few days ago," Genesis said making Xander turn to him.

'Hm, so he remembers, didn't mother say he was one of her followers?' Xander thought his mother didn't have many followers now since most people don't believe in the gods nowadays.

"I couldn't just leave you to face them with an injured shoulder," Xander said with a smirk as he steps closer to Genesis and held out his hand.

"Xander Gainsborough, and your Genesis Rhapsodos?" Xander said as the red-haired male huffs but accepted the handshake.

"Correct, I was looking for you to thank you," Genesis said pulling his arm back, he wondered why his hand was tingling a bit.

"And you found me, I'm surprised you came back here," Xander said glancing around.

"I came back here to find my phone, I dropped it at some point," Genesis said as he looked around trying to spot any sight of his phone.

"Oh, I was wondering who this belonged to," Xander said reaching into his pocket and pulled out a phone.

"Will wonders ever cease?" Genesis said with a small chuckle as he got his phone and put it away in his pocket.

He looked back at Xander and wondered how he should thank the man, not only for saving him but finding his phone as well. His phone could have ended up in anyone's hands, Wutai, a random passerby or heaven forbid one of his fangirls of the Red Poets. He gave the male another look over, his body build showed he worked out and kept in shape. He saw no weapon on him but he could sense something but he wasn't sure what it was, and if what those children said was true then Xander could play the flute as well.

'He's also rather nice looking' Genesis thought while he was bisexual he did lean more towards guys but he did like teasing and flirting with the ladies from time to time.

"Hm, how to thank my savior? How about I take you for a meal?" Genesis asked as he noticed movement from the corner of his eyes.

'That looked like a Turk, strange why would one be here?' Genesis though looking at Xander.

"A meal?" Xander asked looking a bit confused if a bit amused.

"As a thank you for helping me, twice it seems," Genesis said smirking making Xander nod.

"I don't see why not, but nothing too fancy I don't like crowded places," Xander said he did not small rooms filled with people for fear of his back being hit and his wings getting damaged.

"Very well, I know some places on the plate above but we'd be avoiding my Fanclub all day," Genesis said making Xander chuckle.

"I know some good places, shall we?" Xander said as steps closer to Genesis who nods.

"We shall, also, would you mind showing me some of those shortcuts? They might be useful in the future," Genesis asked knowing more shortcuts would help him escape enemies or fangirls.

Xander gave a bark of laughter as they walked down an alleyway, behind them, in the place they just left. A Turk steps out, a camera in hand as they held up a radio to their lips.

"Sir? The Ancient has met one of the firsts, shall I move to intercept?... Sir? Of course...I will return to my patrol then," The Turk said before putting the camera and radio away and leaving the area.

I know Genesis is a bit OOC but for a good reason, plus, my story my rules! Okay, that was a bit childish but still.

In the next chapter, a small time skip and a certain duo grow close.
