Chapter 20: Gaining your trust (part 2)

Gil was surprised to hear a voice offering his help. He left the toilet room and found the person who was waiting for him. She was a hairy little girl. That's right ... it was her sister-in-law.

"Mia! What are you doing here? And what are you talking about?" Gil asked trying to hide her his talk with Robert.

"Gil, I heard what you and my dad talked about" Mia answered.

"Mia (sigh) You shouldn't get into these things. I don't think you understand this from relationships and that. It's ... complicated for someone your age" Gil said.

"Gil, that I'm a girl who almost finished preschool doesn't make me dumb. I know I don't understand many things because of my age, but I know something. I love my older sister. And she deserves to be happy with a good boy like you. I don't understand why my dad doesn't love you, but I'm willing to help you" Mia told him her feelings.

"I appreciate your good intentions, but I don't know what you can do to make Robert like me" Gil said not very convinced.

"Mmmmm...I know. I'm going to tell you a family secret. But swear to me, you're not going to tell anyone" Mia whispered him.

"I swear" Gil raised his hand swearing. Molly's younger sister whispered into Gil's ear, it seemed like something that might interest the young blue-haired man "Are you sure?"

"So is. But I warn you that it will not be easy. Dad can be tough. And what do you say?" Mia asked.

"I...I know what I will do. Thanks, Mia! You are a great sister-in-law" Gil hugged her a little.

"You're welcome. Just make my big sis happy!" Mia giggled.

"I always do it" Gil smirked a little. He went to search Robert.

Molly and Gil were together with the rest of the Gentilella family. Everyone was eating happily. Gil was thinking of talking to Robert to implement his plan devised by Mia. He asked his girlfriend if he could accompany him to speak to her father. Molly accepted a little confused but she didn't question that.

"Hello, Mr. Gentilella. I think we start with the left flipper. I just want us to get to know each other better and maybe accept me" Gil said with a shy smiled.

"Hmpt as you said" He rolled his eyes.

"Well….I know I don't have the best reputation, but I am competent enough to take care of your daughter. If that is what worries you" Gil commented.

"Whatever. Still you don't convince me at all" Robert said rudely.

"Dad….calm down. I just want you to accept Gil. He is very important for me" Molly begged him.

"Daughter, you don't know what suits you. That boy is not good for you. He is not worthy of you" The man answered.

"Enough, Mister Gentilella! I tried to be reasonable with you, but you leave me no choice. All right, you want me to prove that I'm worthy of Molly? I will do it. Sir, I challenge you to a family duel" Gil shouted. The rest of the family gasped surprised.

"Gilly...No!" Molly was scared.

"Hehehe...What do you mean by that?" Mr. Gentilella smirked.

"According to the tradition of this family, I can earn your blessing if ... I beat you in a duel. If with that I show that I am a good boyfriend for Molly, well , I challenge you" Gil was confident.

"Mmmmm interesting, boy. You have guts, that surprised me a little. Very well, I accept your challenge on one condition. If you win, you will have my blessing to go out with my daughter. But if you lose, you will have to be separated forever. Well, Gil? Do you accept or do you retract?" Robert proposed him with a evil smile.

"Gilly...please...Don't do it! You don't know what you're facing" Molly begged him.

"I have to do it, Molly. I want to be accepted by your parents. If I want our relationship to progress, I have to be accepted by your parents. Very well sir. We have a deal. I will face you" Gil answered determined.

"Well ... well ... It seems we have a deal. I'm impressed with your courage, boy. But it won't be enough against me" Robert expressed very confident.

Molly's entire family gathered at a table where only Gil and Robert were sitting. One at each end of the table. Molly, Mia and Miriam were worried about what was about to happen. Gil and Robert only gave each other challenging looks. One of Molly's uncles came to referee the match.

"Welcome all Gentilella to a new family duel. Tradition is back. This time, Robert decides to confront Gil, Molly's suitor. For generations, these duels have been developed to solve family fights. And now, Gil and Robert must overcome the family challenge. The Gentilella Spicy Challenge is that both contestants should eat as many chilies as possible. The challenge ends when one of them can no longer bear the spicy and decides to surrender" One of the uncles said that "Do the contestants have anything to say before they start? They have time to repent and withdraw"

"Give up? Ha, I don't even know what that means" Gil smirked.

"I just want to tell you a little detail, Gil. I ... hehehe ... No one has ever beaten me before" Robert said that boasting.

"What?" Gil looked scared

"I advised you" Mia said.

"You What!?" Molly was surprised.

"And what do you say, Gil? Do you still want to face me? Or have you flinched?" Robert smirked.

"Never! I don't give up without fight" Gil was determined.

"Very well. Let's start with the light chilies" The uncle said that. Two of Molly's cousins brought them on a plate full of small chili peppers. They both ate a lot of it, it wasn't difficult for either of them.

"Too easy" Robert said.

"Is it all they have?" Gil added. Molly was more worried. She knows what will happen next. This time they brought them medium chili peppers. They were spicier, but they both ate them without problems. Then they brought chili peppers of the same size but with a different color. Spicier still.

"Wow, boy. You look very sweaty. Do you need a drink?" Molly´s dad said that in a mocking tone. Gil was beginning to sweat from the spiciness.

"Hahaha...This is nothing to me" Gil pretended that he was fine even though he was already starting to feel the spiciness inside his mouth.

"Very well. Next one!" Robert smirked.

And so several minutes passed. They were both eating large amounts of chili. More and more spicy than the last. Robert was beginning to sweat and feel very itchy in his mouth. But Gil was much worse. He sweated too much, his face was red, sometimes he touched his stomach from the effects of the chili, he had watery eyes.

"What's up, Gil? Too spicy for someone like you? You should give up now. Thus you will end your suffering. I knew someone like you wouldn't be worthy" Robert continued to provoke Gil on purpose.

"No ... I will never give up ... For Molly ... For her I don't give up ... I will beat you even if it costs my health" Gil answered determined but tired.

"Stop this! Mom, do something! Dad will break Gilly!" Molly was scared for his boyfriend status.

"I'm so sorry, honey. We can not do anything. It is the family tradition. It all depends on them now" Mirriam answered.

"Very good. It is time for sudden death. It's time for the last chili. GRANDMA'S DEATH SAUCE!" Molly´s uncle yelled that excitedly.

"Ooohhhhhh" Everybody were shocked.

"NO!" Molly was more shocked.

"It is complete madness. No one can stand if a drop of grandma's sauce" Miriam expressed.

"Give up now! You have no chance here" Robert commented.

"NEVER! I WILL NOT GIVE UP UNTIL I HAVE YOUR BLESSING" Gil answered with pain.

"Okay then. This ends here" Robert sentenced.

Molly's grandmother brought them a one-liter bottle of the famous "Grandmother's Death Sauce." Gil and Robert looked at each other defiantly to see who would be the first to try the sauce. Robert decided to take a very small spoon to take a drop of the sauce. When Molly's father took a simple teaspoon, it caused him a lot of pain.

"AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH" Robert screamed. But he put up with the pain and took nothing to quench the spiciness in his mouth. He still didn't lose "Gil, you´re next. I doubt you will beat me. No one can take a drop of the deadly sauce. Not even me. Let's just ... let's get this over with. Give up now that you can!"

"Never, Mister Gentilella! I'll get this over with here and now!" Gil shouted taking all the bottle. Everyone gets scared, even Robert.

"NO, GILLY! DON´T DO IT!" Molly screamed.

"Stop, kid!" Robert warned.

"I´m sorry!" Gil said before he do something crazy. He decided to take the bottle of the deadly sauce. And he started drinking it full. The whole family was surprised and scared at the same time.

"Gil! Gil! Gil! Gil!" Mia decided to support her brother-in-law. Molly joined Mia. Then everyone in the family started repeating Gil's name. Robert was amazed at that boy's bravery.

"(Gil….I have never seen such determination. What kind of boy are you?)" Robert asked that in his thoughts. Finally, Gil finished drinking the deadly hot sauce. You must already imagine what will happen to Gil.

"AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH" Gil couldn't take it anymore. He felt as if his mouth, throat and stomach were burning as in hell itself. Gil couldn't bear that, but he refused to drink anything to ease the pain.

"Boy, drink something! If you continue like this, something very bad can happen to you!" Robert ordered scared.

"Gilly, stop with this now!" Molly was concerned.

"NO! I WILL NOT DO IT UNTIL I DEFEAT YOU, SIR!" Gil shouted with all his pain. Robert saw that Gil was stubborn and would not give up until he defeated him. Molly's father knew that the only way for him to beat Gil was to eat spicier. But they would only hurt your daughter's boyfriend more. So he decided to do something that no one would imagine.

"I...I...I…(sigh) I give up!" Robert said that before drinking the glass of milk next to him. That's right, he gave up on purpose. Everybody gasped.

"Robert gave up. It means that he has lost. Gil has won" The uncle said that.

"YAY!" Everybody shouted excited.

"Emmmm...Gil?" Robert was concerned.

"AAAAAAHHHHHH… I NEED SOMETHING NOW!...AAAAAAHHHHHHH" Gil screamed with a lot of pain.

After a while, Gil must have had an exaggerated amount of milk to ease the pungent taste inside him. He eventually recovered, but with side effects.

"Gil, are you okay?" Molly asked worried.

"I´m fine...Agh...I still have the spicy inside me" Gil complained.

"Give it time. In a few days you will be better" Robert appeared with his wife.

"Gilly, what you did was very stupid! Don't do something like that again. You almost scared me to death!" Molly scold him.

"Hehehe sorry, honey! But I told you I would do everything for you. Literally EVERYTHING. Auch, my stomach still hurts" Gil commented.

"Well…..We have to talk" Robert said with a serious tone. The young couple was quiet "Very good, Gil. Obviously I don't like you ... at least ... until now. Boy, today you showed me courage and determination. No boy would do what you did, knowing that you put your life at risk, you did everything for my blessing"

"Well, Mr. Gentilella. My love for Molly is sincere. If I want to have something more serious with her in the future, I had to prove to you that I am good for her" Gil smiled his girlfriend.

"And you did it ... Here between us, I left you to win. Because I knew you wouldn't give up if we continued like this. Still, you showed me that you're worth dating Molly. Even if you are not the most serious or the most responsible boy ... You proved to me that you really love my daughter before your own life. And I admire that" Robert finally smiled him.

"Daddy...that means…." Molly was surprised.

"Yeah….Gil….You have my blessing" Robert finally said that.

"Thanks, daddy!" Molly hugged him.

"Thanks, Mr. Gentilella!" Gil answered.

"Boy, you can call me Robert" Molly´s father said.

"Okay, Thanks, Robert" Miriam, Molly and Robert giggled.

"Stop there, Gil. That does not mean that we must establish rules" Molly's dad said.

"Here we go" Molly rolled her eyes.

"Okay then. Rule 1: When you go out on a date, don't come home late. More than 9pm is not allowed. Rule 2: When we are in a family gathering, no fondling or intense kissing. Hugs and kisses on the cheek are only allowed in our presence" Robert explained.

"Got it!" Gil answered.

"Ah...and Rule 3: I don't want to be a grandfather yet. I do not wish to have grandchildren yet. You know what I mean" Molly and Gil blushed intensely. They understood what Robert was trying to tell them.

"DADDY!" Molly replied embarrassed.

"Don't worry Robert. I respect your daughter very much" Gil added blushed.

"You better. If you hurt my daughter ... it will be bad for you ... But since I doubt that will happen, that's fine" Robert said.

"All right, guys. I think we should leave them alone. So they have a little privacy. But do not abuse" Miriam advised.

"But...honey" Robert answered.

"Let´s go!" Miriam took him. She winked her daughter and her son-in-law. Finally, Molly and Gil were alone.

"I think your whole family likes me" Gil smiled.

"I think so" Molly said with a smiled.

"So….So ... Molly ... Are we really going to obey all your dad's rules?" Gil asked nervously.

"Well….Maybe we can disobey some of them" Molly said that to him with a flirtatious tone and a seductive look.

"Wow...you are a bad girl" Gil gave her a mischievous look.

"You are a bad influence, Gilly. But ... better on another day at another time ... I don't want you to risk dad's trust" Molly recommended him. She was smart.

"You are right, love. Hey Molly! Next time ... it's your turn to meet my family" Gil smiled.

"Ohhh boy!" Molly said.

Well well well….Have any of you had problems with in-laws? Not me (because I haven't had a girlfriend XD) Well, it seems that Gil does anything for Molly.
