It's been great for the past few days for the Porters. They enjoyed their camping, but they had to return to the big city. Paul pulled up to their apartment building and the family went on up to their apartment to unpack.

"That was so much fun. Can we go camping again?" Van asked.

"Sure. We'll go again one day." Jean said. "I know I enjoyed my camping experience." She looked at Paul and blushed when she said that. Paul enjoyed it himself.

"Well, we got all our stuff out of the R.V. So I'm going to return it." Paul said.

"Daddy, can we come with? One more ride in that before we have to return it. It's actually a lot of fun." Van pleaded as he and Holly wanted the fun to keep going.

"You don't mind, do you?" Paul asked.

"No. Go right ahead. I can take care of things here." Jean said. "Just be sure to be careful if you decide to swing back to the apartment with those two. I have a enough people saying we're bad parents for letting our kids on a dangerous ride like that."

"Mom, you worry too much." Van said. "Come on, Dad. Let's go for another ride." Van and Holly wanted to get going and Paul didn't keep them waiting as they headed downstairs and back to the R.V.

...

Paul

Van and Holly enjoyed running in the R.V. while they could. However, Paul made it back to the rental place and returned the R.V. Once he returned it, they started walking as Paul held Holly's hand.

"What do you say before we go back to the apartment that we grab something to eat? Either of you hungry?" Paul asked.

"Can we go get burgers?" Van said.

"No. Let's go get pizza." Holly said.

"We'll just go for the first place we come across." Paul said as they kept walking, but Paul didn't watch where he was going and bumped into someone by accident. "Sorry about that." Paul looked to see who he bumped into and he was surprised to see who it was. "Monica?"

"Paul..." Monica said.

"Wow. It's... It's great to see you again." Paul said as he hugged his ex-girlfriend and she hugged back with her just as happy to see him again. "It's been a while. I haven't seen you all that much lately."

"Yeah. I wasn't expecting to bump into you. Literally, I might add." Monica said.

"Daddy, who is she?" Holly asked.

"Oh right. Monica, these are my kids: Van and Holly." Paul said.

"Oh! That's right. For a moment I forgot. You and Jean got married and had children together." Monica said.

"Kids, this is Monica. You've probably seen her on the news and such." Paul said. "Wait. What am I saying? You don't watch the news unless I'm on it. Anyway, she's actually and old..."friend" of mine."

"Why did you say it like that?" Van asked as he caught something strange.

"I guess he's a smart little boy." Monica said as the two of them awkwardly laughed. "The truth is, sweetie, your mommy and daddy went to the same school as I did. We've all known each other for a long time. Your daddy and I use to date."

"You did?" Van said as he and Holly were shocked to hear that.

"Yeah. It was before I married Mom. Monica and I went out before your mother and I did." Paul said. Van and Holly could barely believe it, but kids don't think that much on who their parents use to date. "Monica, we were actually going to get something to eat. Do you want to join us?"

"Sure. I was actually going to get a meal myself." Monica said. So the four of them walked to find a place to eat. It was a little awkward for Paul and Monica and a little strange for the kids.

...

A Pizza Parlor

They were able to find a pizza parlor, to Holly's delight. It was a little awkward for Monica and Paul, but it got easier and they were having a good time together. The four of them all sat at a table and were having and had a nice laugh.

"I have to admit, Paul, your kids are adorable." Monica said.

"Well, Jean and I certainly think so." Paul said.

"So how come you two don't have fun together if you two are friends?" Holly asked, but neither of them were really sure how to answer that.

"It's...complicated, Holly. Monica and I are still friends and we do talk to each other." Paul said. "In fact, she helps me out when I'm being Spider-Man. It can just be a little tough given we have some history. I guess since I got married and had you two, it's been a bit difficult." They tried to explain it, but the kids weren't getting it.

"Would the happy family like anything else?" The waitress asked as she came over. When she asked that, Paul and Monica for a little flustered.

"No. We're not like that." Paul said. "I mean these are my kids, but she isn't my wife." Both of them laughed a little out of nervousness, but the kids weren't getting this at all.

"Is this weird?" Holly whispered to Van.

"Kind of..." Van said and he wasn't so sure he like it.

...

Later

Paul and the others made it back to the apartment, where Jean was waiting for them.

"Hey. There you are." Jean said. "You sure took a while just to return that rental home. What took you so long?"

"We actually stopped somewhere to eat." Paul said. "In fact, we actually ran into someone who joined us. It was Monica."

"Monica?! Really?!" Jean said as she was a little surprised. "That's actually nice. Things are going well for her?"

"Yeah. In fact, she invited me to dinner. Just me actually." Paul said. "You're okay with that, right? There has been some tension between the two of you."

"Yeah because...I won." Jean said. "I won because I had your children and I married you." Paul wasn't really sure how to respond to that. "I'm kidding around. I'm fine with it because I know things will go well between the two of you. Monica isn't going to try anything and it's been ten years. I trust both of you and I know things will be okay."

"Thanks." Paul said as he was glad to hear that kissed her before he walked away.

"Hey, Mom..." Van said and got her attention.

"Yeah, honey?" Jean asked.

"Did Dad really go out with that other woman before he married you?" Van asked.

"Well, yes." Jean said. "The truth is that they dated back in high school. They were high school sweethearts and dated for about eight years. In fact, they were actually in love. She dated your father much longer than I did before we got married."

"They were?" Van questioned.

"Yes. They didn't want to break up, but they felt that they had to." Jean said. "Oh well. That all doesn't really matter at this point." Jean blew it off like it was nothing, but Van didn't really like the sound of any of this. After seeing how they acted before, Van was worried something might happen.
