Prologue

[Music Start: Theme - 重桜進軍 Azur Lane the Animation Sound Track]

She was confused.

Peering ahead, she simply couldn't comprehend just what exactly had happened before her eyes. To her right now, everything just appears as a shade of black, white, or red.

What she does know was the never-ending sound of ringing permeating in her ears and the pulsating pain that spread from her waist down.

It was if her body had just been blown open from above.

Lying on the floor, her eyes could only to see the figures of bodies falling before her limp body.

Although her vision was blurred so that she couldn't see clearly whose body exactly were lying around her, she could still see the nightmarish landscape in the back, filled with burning wrecks, equipment, and dismembered limbs. One shadowy figure, however, remain ever so present within her line of sight.

She was able move her mouth, as if wanting to speak with the shadow, but no voice could seem to come out of her throat. To her, it would appear she simply doesn't have the strength to articulate. Even if she did, she wouldn't be able to tell if she'd be articulating correctly with the constant ringing in her ears.

With the shadow moving ever so closer to her, she was not able to move her own body. She felt like a broken puppet. Not able to act. Not able to flee. She was placed squarely in the middle of a scene of terror she had never asked for. She was scared. She was afraid.

But something appears strange. Even as the shadow moves towards her, their distance appears to remain the same. Something was tugging at her collar.

Slowly, but surely, she was being moved away from the episodes of death and destruction. However, so did her conscious as she quietly fell into a deep slumber…

[Music Start: Theme - 戦史 Azur Lane the Animation Sound Track]

On an unspecified date, Garrison Base, one of Azur Lane's most important forward base of operations against the Sirens was reported to have vanished without a trace. None of the two thousand strong garrison from the various participating nations, 24 of which were dedicated anti-Siren personnel or "ship girls", had ever re-established contact back to naval headquarters in Azur Lane. With a base of that scale and importance, it was not long before the information was leaked to the public, despite Azur Lane's best efforts.

While Azur Lane had been carefully carrying out contingency plans for similar instances such as this, the massive unrest that came from the different nations had forced Azur Lane to send out a hastily made sortie with ship girls that were available in the base at the time. Together, two surface fleets and a single submarine fleet formed the basis of the early reconnaissance team and has been sent to investigate what had exactly happened to Garrison Base…

Author's Note - Hello everyone, Appz here. Had always wanted to write a fan story about Azur Lane, so I'm giving it a shot. The current chapter/prologue is more of a preview, if anything, and the general premise of the story. Would likely contain gore and violence in the future, hence the rating. Future uploads may also be short, slow, or infrequent due to work and me not being an avid writer (I'm more of an avid reader instead), so apologies in advance. Nevertheless, carry on and enjoy.

P.S. - For those curious about the lines with regards to [Music Start/End: Theme], you are correct to assume they are music pieces. The ones I have here are currently from Azur Lane the Animation original soundtrack 1. They are meant to augment the storyline while reading (something I want to test around with). Try it if you like or if you have the music available. Otherwise, you could choose to ignore them.
