Chapter 2:
Waking up after a very needed sleep without interruptions and nocturnal escapes was very refreshing, I felt like I was embraced by clouds in my little cocoon made out of fluffy blankets. Though everything ends, as my stomach was hurting like if I hadn't eaten in days, which was pretty accurate. While getting up I analyzed the room in which I had woken up, it was a rectangular shaped room that had a warm and cozy feel to it, on the side of the bed there was a bedside table with a potted plant, there was a soft yellow carpet on the floor and there were Pokemon paintings on the walls.
Looking out of the window I saw various Pokemons that I recognized running around and having fun, which confirmed that I was at Professor Oak's lab. I also noticed that there was a neatly arranged pile of clean clothes near the door of the room, which I found very welcome. I really didn't like the white pants and shirt that they put on me, in the Team Rocket laboratóry. Getting in the bathroom and looking at the mirror I noticed that my brown eyes were changed to a light shade of pink, probably a collateral effect of having Mew's DNA, analyzing the rest of my body I didn't find anything different. I have a relatively short body, with a soft white skin tone, my hair is short, has a light caramel brown shade and it never seems to get in place.
I took a quick shower and changed my clothes to those that Professor Oak gave me, which consisted of light brown shorts and a green t-shirt. I also took my bag with all my electronics that was left at the leg of the bed, after verifying that it had everything there, I headed out of my room. The lab was never really showed in the anime or the games, and oh boy was the lab a lot bigger than I expected, although not too big, it just seemed to have a lot more doors to side rooms full of funny locking machines that I don't have the faintest idea of what they are used for, or some desks submerged in mountains of paperwork and files. My exploration of the lab was interrupted when I heard a cry behind me, before being pushed and falling on the floor.
"You're finally awake!" A little dazed because of the fall, I got to my knees and looked behind me to see an Eevee, which I am guessing is the Eevee me and Blane saved.
"Hey little guy, good to see you too" I said while locking around to see who had called to me before.
"Yes! I'm doing really good! Have you tasted the food from here? It's really good~" Staring at the Eevee in shock I could only mutter in a soft voice.
"Did you just talk?" Silence, I stared at Eevee in shock and confusion, while I guess it was doing the same thing since their eyes were as wide as saucers, well I guess it is a he since his voice sounds masculine.
"Did you just understand me?" I nodded slowly, this was definitely not normal. I'm guessing it's one of the abilities the fusion with Mew's DNA gave me, not that I'm angry since this is a bloody awesome ability.
"Ah I see you're awake, and you two alredy found yourselves, you know when you were asleep that Eevee wouldn't leave your side." Looking to my side I saw Professor Oak walking towards me.
"You must be Professor Oak, it's a pleasure to meet you sir, my name's Aaron." I got up "Thank you for helping us."
"You don't need to thank me young man, it's my job as a regional professor to ensure the future of the new generations. What Team Rocket did was unforgivable." I gave him a faint smile.
"Still I wanna thank you for helping me and Blane, and speaking of Blane where is he?"
"Oh the Bald man already left, I think he was going somewhere named league or something." Eevee answered my question for me.
"Thanks Eevee" Professor Oak looked at me surprised, which is to be expected.
"Apparently I'm able to understand Pokemon now, or it's just Eevee, I didn't hear any other Pokemon talk since Team Rocket did experiments on me." Oak's surprised gase turned into one of pity, which I didn't appreciate, pity won't change a thing and it only makes you feel uncomfortable.
"Yes, I heard of your situation, but let's think on the good side of things, you were able to escape, and with Blane on our side now, we will be able to rescue all the Pokemon from Team Rocket's lab." Well I hope Team Rocket didn't leave or did something drastic to the laboratóry when they noticed we had left, I really want those Pokemon to be happy, they deserve to be after they've been through.
"But what's going to happen to them now, what's going to happen to me? We aren't exactly normal anymore." Would the league leave us in peace? Eevee tensed on my side, and also turned to look at Professor Oak.
Oak's expression turned serious: "The league wanted to keep you under watch, but I refused. You already suffered enough, we will call your family and send you home. You have nothing to worry." Shit, I didn't think this through, I can't tell him I'm from another plane of existence. I don't want to give him some excuse like amnesia, because if the books and movies are anything to go by, I will really regret it in the future. The only thing I can think of whithouse too much drawbacks is to pull the poor orphan card on him.
"I d-don't really have a-any parents." I looked down to give effect and made my voice tremble a bit, it did help that my relationship with my parents was 'complicated' and we weren't very close. Oak looked startled, before composing himself.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know, but can you tell me where you live?" I think I should say somewhere in Kanto, and a bigger city would be better, so if he tried to find my former werbouts, that don't exist, it would be more convincing if the city had lots of people, when he didn't find anything. So that leaves Celadon and Saffron that are the two biggest cities in Kanto, personally I think Celadon is a better choice for the fact that the gim leader of Saffron is a psychic, and I don't want to test the limits of her abilities.
"I-I'm from Celadon, can we talk about something else?" Eevee probably sensing my discomfort pushed his head against my leg, Getting down to his level I started petting him. Thanks little guy.
"Ahh, yes, follow me, Aaron was it? You must be hungry." I got up with Eevee in my arms and started following Professor Oak to what I think is the kitchen. He gave me some cereal, which I devoured as if there would be no tomorrow, while listening to him talk about how the league planned to handle the Pokemons from the lab, which was mostly releasing, after if the Pokemon needed rehabilitation, unless the effects of the experiment were too drastic and it needed to live in a controlled environment..
"Well young Aaron what do you plan on doing now?" Well I wanted to be a Pokemon trainer, and even with all the kidnapping and experiment things happening, I don't know why that should change. All the events until now were just variables in the path, they don't really matter, I have a lot of knowledge in Pokemon and the interest to learn more, all I need to do is take the first step. Getting a determined face I looked at Professor Oak.
"Sir. I want to be a Pokemon trainer" He looked a little startled, I continued without giving him time to talk "I want to be strong, to be able to defend myself. I want to explore the word, see the forests, rivers and mountains. I want to meet a bunch of Pokemon, make friends with them and learn more about them!" Professor startled look turned into one of recognition and nostalgia, he smiled softly and ruffled my hair.
"That determination, you remind me of myself in the old days." He walked to his table, opened a drawer and took something out "very well Aaron, you convinced me. My grandson and some other kids from Pallet Town are starting their journey in a month, I think it would be a good idea for you to start with them." Wait if his grandson is starting his Pokemon journey, this probably means that Ash is also starting, finally I know where in the timeline I am, and how convencional. Coming back to me Professor Oak extended his hand offering me what I quickly recognized as the Pokedex from the first generation of Pokemon. "This is the Pokedex, it is a gadget of my own creation that allows you to analyze and store data of Pokemons, while you will only be leaving in a month I don't see anything wrong with giving yours early." Picking it with extreme care, as if it would break I analyzed the machine to get a feeling of it. Turning it to Eevee and clicking the button to scan, the Pokedex said in a mechanical voice "Eevee, the Evolution Pokémon. It has the potential to evolve into any one of eight different Pokémon."
"What, I can evolve into eight diferent pokemon!" hearing the Pokedex intro I was able to confirm that all pokemon types were 'discovered' as in the first generation the steel, dark and fairy types didn't exist.
"Yes, there is flareon the fire type, vaporeon the water type, jolteon the electric type, umbreon the dark tipe, espeon the psychic type, leafeon the grass type, glaceon the ice type and sylveon the fairy type." Eevee had stars in his eyes, and even the professor had an impressed look in his face.
"It seems you know a lot about Pokemon Aaron."
"Well, I like to think that I do Professor, but I know that there is much more to learn." Professor Oak nods at my statement.
"Very well said, Aaron. Being confident in your knowledge, but also willing to learn more, I like your attitude. How about this month that you have to wait until your journey starts, you help me in the lab? It could help you learn something new." That sounded awesome, I would be able to see various pokemons up close, and learn how to treat them. Also if I was lucky Professor Oak would agree to help me learn a little about pokemon diets, something that I think was overlooked in the anime, not counting the games or manga, where it wasn't even mentioned (There were pokéblocks, poképuff, pokébeans and etc, but never really Pokemon food).
"I would love to professor!" I could feel myself almost jumping from excitement.
"I knew you would agree. Well we can start with… "
I couldn't remember what was the last time I had so much fun. Following Professor Oak as he worked in the lab was a fun experience, me and Eevee helped him feed the Pokemon of the lab along with his assistants, who I was introduced to.
I still remember the system in the game and all the specific tastes of every Pokemon nature, but here it is a lot more complex, natures don't defy the Pokemon taste and every berry has a different effect on the Pokemon along with it's taste, helping further develop and enhance the Pokemon health, attributes and etc. That's why so few trainers make their own food for their Pokemon, it's a hard and complicated process that you have to study the technique, the berries, the effects and a lot more, taking large amounts of time and effort. So the majority of trainers buy the food for their Pokemons from the pokemart, which isn't bad, but also won't give any benefit to their Pokemon and won't help them grow to the best that they can be.
While it wasn't much, Professor Oak taught me the very basics and seeing my enthusiasm he also gave me a book for me to study alone. The days passed quickly with me seeing a variety of different Pokemon up close and being able to pet them, also Professor Oak was impressed with how easily they became comfortable with me. We also confirmed that I was able to understand all Pokemon, not just Eevee, who looked envious when I interacted with the other Pokemon for some reason.
When the day ended my legs felt like jell-o, although I don't regret anything, being able to learn more, and interact with the creatures that I love was a dream come true to me and I enjoyed every part of it. But this morning also made me remember that I need to get my physical condition better, which sucks. Eevee was currently on my lap as I petted his soft fur while I readed a book about the care of pokemon made by Professor Oak himself.
"Aaron my boy, I guess we already know which pokemon you will start with, isn't that right?" What? I looked up to see Professor Oak looking at me with a smile.
"What do you mean professor?"
"Well, with how glued you and this Eevee are I expect you two to travel together." How did I not notice that? I got up and put Eevee down while getting to my knees, Eevee looked expectantly at me.
"Eevee would you like to be my partner, go on adventures with me, while climbing our way to the top together?" Eevee looked directly in my eyes, before jumping on me.
"Yes! I would love to travel with you Aaron." relief and happiness flashed through me, I felt a smile coming to my face as I embraced Eevee in a hug. I'm not going to lie, I was nervous, it was an incredibly important moment, my first step to the top, my first step to becoming the best.
"Well since we are together I would like a name to call you instead of your species name, it's that alright?" Eevee's head jumped up quicker that I thought was possible.
"A name?! I would love a name!"
"It's there a name you want to be called?" In the games I loved to name my Pokemon, it made them special to me, and now that everything is real I think it would make us less 'human and pokemon' and more like partners and equals.
"Nah, I want a name from you!" Well that's unexpected, and super adorable.
"What do you think of the name Milo?"
"I LOVE IT!" Milo had stars in his eyes and was shaking with excitement, making me smile softly.
"I'm glad you like it." Milo looked at me again and put his head on my chest, and his tail wildly swinging everywhere.
"While I hate to interrupt such a heartwarming scene, you two must go to bed now, young boys need a lot of sleep." I completely forgot that Professor Oak was in the room. I felt my cheeks heating a bit as I picked Milo and went to my room after wishing Professor Oak a good night of sleep. I changed into pajamas before me and Milo crashed into the bed to fall into a peaceful sleep.
