Like I said I don't own ATLA or any of the characters that are mentioned here. Anyways.. enjoy!
He looked at her and felt as if he was about to faint. If this is a dream please no one pinch me he told himself. "Katara!" he shouted.
The girl was struggling to stand and was so confused about where she was and how she got there. He saw this handsome guy turn the corner and stare at her. When he shouted her name she couldn't believe her eyes. She could recognize that voice anywhere. "Aang?" she asked with a confused look on her face.
He ran to her and hugged her tightly. She hugged him back and was able to rest on him for a little. Tears were running down his face, he couldn't believe that she was finally awake. He looked at her and truly smiled for the first time in two months.
"What is it, Aang? Are you okay?" she asked nervously. "You mean you don't remember?" He asked, worried that he might have to tell her what happened, how he failed to keep her safe.
"No, not really. Why are we in a Fire Nation ship, why am I so weak, and why do you have hair?" he chuckled to that last part. "You don't like it?" he smiled. "No, I do. It's nice" she caressed her fingers through his hair and smiled.
Turning the corner were Toph and Sokka. "Sugar Queen that's gotta be you!" shouted Toph. They both ran to hug her.
"Sokka? Toph? Why are you all in Fire Nation outfits? And why am I the only one that's completely out of it?" she asked firmly. "I think it's best if you sit down for this one," Sokka said leading her to the boardroom of the ship.
They all sat down at the table. "Okay, now spill it! What the heck is going on here?" Katara asked.
"Back in Ba Sing Se, you and I were in the crystal catacombs. We were battling Zuko and Azula and the Dai Li agents. There was too many of them, so in order to save you I had to enter the avatar state. But, once I did Azula saw it as an opening. She then shot lighting at you. This caused me to lock my chakra and the avatar state. As soon as I could I got you back to everyone and we left Ba Sing Se. We captured this Fire Nation Ship and used it as our disguise." Aang explained.
"We're now heading west and going to find somewhere where we can stay until the day of the invasion arrives." explained Sokka.
Katara was having trouble getting all this information in her head all at once. "How long was I out?" she finally asked. "About two months," Aang answered her question with sadness in his voice. Katara looked at him and then grunted in pain.
"I think you need a healing session, come on let's take you back to your room," Aang said. "Wait back up, you have healing abilities?" she asked excitedly. "Yeah I learned after Azula shot you and I had to help heal you. I've been giving you daily healing sessions since," he told her.
...
They got back to Katara's room and Aang began the healing session. Katara took most of her clothes off until she was left in her underwear. Even though Aang had already seen her like that when they would practice waterbending or go swimming, it never failed to make his knees weak. He used waterbending to get water in his hands and waited for it to glow.
He proceeded to begin healing the wound in her back. "It's ugly isn't it, the scar," she said with a frown. "Nothing about you is ugly," he answered without hesitation. She didn't notice but she blushed to his response.
Katara looked around the room and noticed something. "Why's there a sleeping bag next to my bed?" she asked Aang curiously. "Oh, it's mine." he answered while continuing to heal the scar. "You slept next to me?" a smile filled with wonder covered her face. "I wanted to make sure you were protected, I also wanted to be there when you woke up so you wouldn't be startled," he responded.
Aang continued to heal the wound. "Tell me where your pain feels most intense," he told her. "A little higher," she responded while grunting. Then she got a flashback of her watching Aang go into the avatar state back at the Crystal Catacombs. "You're definitely in the right spot there," she then grunted.
"I feel a lot of energy twisted up in there, let me just see if I can," he said while trying to take some water out of that area and moving down towards the center. In that moment, Katara got another flashback but this one was more intense.
In it she felt getting hit by Azula's lighting, she saw herself laying on Appa's head and Aang trying to save her with tears in his eyes. She saw him hugging her and whispering "I'm sorry, Katara" in the most shameful voice she'd ever heard come from him. She then felt as her soul was leaving her body but then it was brought back. She came out of the memory and gasped.
"Aang, I didn't just get hurt did I? It was worse than that, I was gone but you brought me back!" Aang felt those words hit him hard. He didn't feel like he was worthy of the credit of "saving her" because he felt like he failed her. "All I did was use the spirit water from the north pole, I don't know what I did exactly."
She then turned around to face him and put her hand on his cheek. "You saved me." He liked the feeling of her hand on his cheek, it was so warm and familiar. It felt as if it somehow belonged there.
He then proceeded to hug her and sob. "I taught I was gonna loose you," he cried. She hugged him back tighter. "Oh Aang, you're never gonna loose me," she replied with confirmation in her voice.
They stopped hugging and began to stare at each other. "Katara, if I learned something from what happened to you is that, you never know what can happen," he stared at her beautiful ocean blue eyes and felt as if he was going to melt. He then took a deep breath before continuing to talk. "Katara, from the moment that I woke up from that iceberg in your arms, I knew that you were going to change my life, and you have in ways that you will never even begin to imagine. From that moment on you made me a better person. You, Katara, gave me a reason to fight for the world. You are and will forever be that reason." She was startled by what he was saying but not in a bad way. "Aang what are you saying?" she asked him. "I'm saying, that I love you!" He finally, after so many attempts to, told her.
She stared at him and couldn't even begin to believe the words that were coming out of his mouth. Since the day that Aunt Wu told her that she was going to marry a powerful bender and she realized that he could be that powerful bender, she began to see him in a different light. As if he was no longer just her friend, but her partner. They had been through so much together and through that journey she had begun to grow feelings for him, strong feelings. She didn't know if he even saw her in that way, so she never said anything.
But now, that he was telling her just how much she meant to him. She was filed with so much joy and relief.
She looked at his big grey eyes and proceeded to kiss him. They shared this passionate kiss that felt in a way, like coming home. They parted to take a breathe. "I love you too," she told him and rosy cheeks began to uncover in both their faces.
