Chapter 8:
After last night's talk, I personally think we got even closer than before. Thankfully they didn't mention the topic again, much to my relief. Now that I told them a little about my past I can't help but feel curious about their lives before meeting me, but I restrained myself from asking as I didn't want to make things awkward for them. If they want to tell me, then I think I'll wait for them to tell me about their own choice.
It's early morning and me and my Pokemons decided to have a training session. Even if we defeated all our opponents inside Mt. Moon, we had some difficulties against certain foes and in executing certain attacks. Kayda's flaw that I was able to see is that she rarely landed a Water Gun on the Zubats, so she will train her accuracy, and Milo will help her while training evasion himself. I decided to spend my time doing some light exercises, before continuing my research while watching them train. Since I'm staying for some days in this town, I'm able to borrow some books from the library that I personally don't have, and wouldn't be able to read while on the road.
I'm not surprised by the number of books about water type Pokemon since the city is famous for them. I quite enjoy reading some of them, with them having a lot more information and details than the books I read before. They will surely be a great help when I try to teach Kayda some water type attack or simply helping her improve, using her body and stats to the best of her capabilities.
We stayed some hours in the morning like that, training and enjoying the outdoors. Let's just say that Milo didn't enjoy the exercise as much as Kayda seemed to have, as his fur was dripping wet when I called them to eat breakfast.
"Aaron can't we train something different now." He whined while gasping for air. "I'm soaked!"
I chuckled "Well, you wouldn't be wet if you had evaded all of Kayda's attacks." He gave me an irritated look and seemed about to retort, but Kayda interrupted.
"Shush child, now Aaron, quit bickering and dry Milo up, we wouldn't want him to get a cold." She said in a commanding tone. She can be such a worrywart sometimes.
Taking a towel from my bag I started drying Milo who let out some purrs. Although I doubt Milo will get a cold, as the weather was enjoyable warm, with barely any wind. Today seems to have the perfect weather to go swimming, not that I will, I think it's best if I avoid swimming for some time.
"I'm thinking of exploring the city. What do you two think?" I asked before biting into the sandwich that I bought at the Pokemon centre cafeteria. Thinking about it now, this city is famous for its water Pokemon, maybe I could look if they have some kind of special training method or tips for training Kayda.
"Yeah, I'm all for it!" Milo exclaimed excitedly "Have you seen the market? It looked huge!" I'm salivating, just thinking about it. There might be some uncommon Berries that I haven't seen or tasted yet, or maybe it can have some of the herbs I read about, which also can help in raising your Pokemon. Thinking about it now it is this city that sells bikes, isn't it? But even then I doubt I'm able to afford it as in the games it's extremely expensive, and by Misty's reaction to Ash breaking her's, it still seems to be the case in this universe.
"I think I would like to have a look around on my own. It has been a while since I've been here." Kayda said thoughtfully. My head whipped in her direction in surprise, Kayda has already been here? Well, I guess she DID live for a long time and had the freedom to explore.
"You've already been to Cerulean City, Kayda?" I asked the small seahorse.
"I've already been to various places in my life, younglings. Cerulean is just one of those places, although I do remember that the place is quite beautiful." She commented while... smiling? Reading a seahorse's facial expressions is no easy feat, and there are some times that I just have to guess.
"Okay then, Kayda., I said as she jumped inside a small river that the Pokemon centre had behind. "We will meet again at dinner time, is that all right?" She nodded before diving and disappearing from view.
After she was gone Milo and I went exploring around the city. I smile as Milo seems to look at anything that moves, with his tail wagging energetically behind him showing that he is enjoying the experience. We also took a look around some touristic locations, Athol Milo didn't seem to appreciate them as much, as they all involved water somewhere. But then finally we reach the place I've been waiting for, I smile as we look at the shopping district. The market place seems to consist of various small shops aligned organized giving enough space for people to walk around.
I'm sure my eyes are shining as I look at the different shops, of the most diverse things. I'm thankful I put Rapier inside his pokeball, because the place is swarming with people walking around. I also can't help but silently laugh when I see a shop selling a giant vacuum machine, that I know the Team Rocket trio that follows Ash around would steal. I stop walking when I see a poster of something I was expecting but was hoping didn't exist, on the wall, there is a big poster calling trainers to try the 'Nugget Bridge Challenge'. And following how the game goes I know the challenge is actually sponsored by Team Rocket trying to find trainers to recruit.
"Come on Aaron! Look at these shiny things!" Milo who jumped out of my shoulder and ran in front of a jewel shop showcase excitedly exclaimed bringing me out of my thoughts.
"Yeah Milo, but we don't need them." I pick Milo up and hold him in my arms so he will not go out running again. "I'm looking for herbs, or berry shops, see if you can smell them." Maybe that will distract him.
He lifted his head and sniffed the air sometimes before pointing in a direction. "I can smell the scent of fresh and crushed plants in that direction." He said before grimacing. "It smells like that herbal tea that you and Professor Oak made me drink." As he said that he seemed to come to a realization, and turned his head to me, his face written with panic. "Wait, you are not buying these herbs to make more of that yucky liquid! Are you!?"
I chuckled "I will not make the tea again, but I am going to mix the herbs used to make it in your food." The most simple recipes for Pokemon food use mostly only berries and water, but if you want a better effect, there are some ingredients that better help, like herbs, or even some products made by other Pokemon like honey or some kinds of powders. There is a breeder that became rich because he was able to discover a method to harvest safely the mushrooms that grow on Paras' back.
"WHAT! It won't make my food taste bad, will it?" He shouted horrified.
"It will probably change the taste a little, but the flavor of the berries will hide the bad taste, so don't worry so much." I explained. Now that I noticed there are some people giving me weird looks, probably because I'm talking to Milo. So I just hurried towards the store and tried to ignore the looks I'm receiving.
Opening the door of the store I'm assaulted by the strong smell of herbs and flowers. So I'm not much surprised when I hear Milo gagging at my arms, with his stronger nose. The store has an old feel to it, with the wooden furniture and the various potted plants. I can also see the various types of herbs drying on the shelves, and others being preserved in glass bottles.
"Oh a new face, how rare." I'm brought out of my thoughts when I hear the voice of an old lady. Looking at the front desk I see an old woman who probably is the owner of the place.
"Hello, I'm Aaron and I'm looking to buy herbs for making Pokemon food." I got nervous, as she seemed to study me under her gaze, before making the same with Milo. After what seemed like hours, she smiled and I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.
"Are you an aspiring breeder? I see your Pokemon is very healthy." I basked at the praise, proud of how I'm taking care of my Pokemon.
"No, I'm a Pokemon trainer. But I make my own recipe of food for my Pokemon." I explained, "I believe a healthy and nutritional diet is essential for my Pokemon's growth." The old woman looked a little disappointed but her smile returned when I told her my opinion.
"Yes, nowadays trainers always buy that industrial food. It is nice to see a trainer like yourself making your own food for your Pokemon." She gave me an approving nod. "But what can I help you with?"
"All the recipes I made until now were made using berries. Since I already read all the books my teacher recommended for me, he said it should be fine if I now tried using more advanced materials like herbs." She seemed to think for a moment.
"I would recommend you using these herbs then." She put on table four different types of herbs. "They are easier to handle and are better for someone without much experience. I would suggest you get used to them first before trying any other herb." Looking at the herbs on the table that she was suggesting, they looked like the ones Professor Oak told me to use as well.
"I recognize three of these, it's Fire grass, Purple root, and Yarley. But the last one isn't on the list my teacher recommended." I curiously looked at the vivid green leaves displayed on the table.
"That must be because they are rather uncommon. These leaves are from a plant named Verdenia. It is very easy to manage them, and although they have a strong smell, they don't have much taste, which is perfect for beginners." I looked amazed at the leaves, now in her hands. "Give it a try." She handed me a sample. With a little hesitation, I put the leaf in my mouth and chewed. I'm surprised that it really has almost no taste.
"It's incredible. All the other herbs I ate, which are the ones that are already considered weak, have such a bitter taste." I say amazed.
She laughs "Yes, but since the herb also has a weak effect it isn't very popular, so it is uncommon to find someone selling them."
"That's a shame." Taking another leaf and putting it in front of Milo who was distracted looking around the store, and probably not listening to what we were saying. "Here, taste this." He looked repulsed by the strong herbal smell.
"But it will taste bitter!" He cried.
"I promise it doesn't taste bad," I reassured him. Slowly and very cautiously he bit the leaf taking a very small part and hesitantly chewed. His face turned confused and surprised when he didn't taste the strong bitter taste the other herbs he tried had. "See? I told you it didn't taste bad." He ignored me and kept looking silently at the leaf in wonder. Turning back to the owner, she was looking at us in amusement, probably thinking that when I answered Milo, I was just taking an educated guess.
"Thank you very much. I'll take two packages of each." I asked, "Dried please." I added as they would go bad during the journey otherwise. The old woman experientially got everything ready quickly, and I satisfied, put them away inside my bag.
"Now I just need to learn exactly how to handle them…" I mumble as I'm getting ready to leave.
"Wait, didn't you say you had a teacher?" The old woman must have heard me and asked.
I scratched my cheeks "Yeah, but he's always very busy, so I mostly learn from books." The woman seemed to think about it, before smiling at me.
"Then how about I teach you." My eyes widened in surprise. Yes, it would be very helpful if she could explain to me while showing how it's done, but I can't take her time like that.
"But you're busy, I can't possibly ask you to do that for me," I exclaim. She waves her hand dismissively.
"Almost no one comes to my shop, and we will be working in the room in the back, if anyone comes to the shop we will be able to hear, just like when you came in." She explains. This is a golden opportunity! I will be able to learn how to handle the herbs I just bought, and I even could ask her some questions I have on the way to make the Pokemon food get the right consistency. Kayda likes her food very soft, and that is something I have been having difficulties with. Professor Oak did give a lot of tips but he isn't a professional, and this woman seems to have worked with herbs for a long time, she must have multiple techniques to improve the taste and effectiveness of the food.
"Then I will be at your care" The woman smiled and signed to follow her. If she is willing to teach me, who am I to refuse.
The woman, who I later learned is named Carla, is indeed very knowledgeable. I was able to learn a lot under her, in the mere span of a couple of hours. She showed me different basic and easy techniques to get the most of the herb, and how best to prepare them. I was also able to understand a lot that I had doubts before, as she answered every question I had in an easy and simple way to understand. At one moment, after she just answered a complex question in such a simple way that I couldn't help but ask.
"Carla, have you ever taught before?" She got a faraway look in her eyes before shaking her head firmly. I hope I didn't touch on an uncomfortable topic.
"Yes, I was a teacher before I opened my shop. I like to see inspiring and enthusiastic kids ready to learn. I liked to help them to the best of my abilities." She said with a little of what I think is sadness in her tone. "But that was a long time ago. Now I'm too old." I wanted to say something, but I lost my chance when she quickly added. "Well you better continue working, those herbs won't extract their juices by themselves."
As we resumed talking about herbs and berries, I couldn't take her answer out of the back of my mind. But I continued working nevertheless and I spent the entire day discussing and learning about herbs, berries, and Pokemon food.
"Thank you, you helped me learn more than I expected to have learned for the next week." She smiled back at me and ruffled my hair.
"No problem Aaron. My day was much more interesting because of you." I put one of my hands on my head as I have a mild headache, after having absorbed so much knowledge. "And thank you too, for letting me experience teaching again." I gave her a grin before I gave her my farewells and I left the shop carrying sleeping milo in my arms.
Just now I feel the exhaustion on my body, and let out a yawn. Getting to the Pokemon centre I find Kayda waiting for us inside the small river at the back of the Pokemon centre. It is already getting dark and I can't wait to fall on my bed.
"Why do you take so long?" She asked when I appeared. "Oh no, you didn't get into some kind of trouble, did you?" Her eyes turned suspicious and accusatory, making me squirm uncomfortably under her gaze.
"No, I was just buying herbs, when the nice lady that ran the store offered to teach me since she didn't have anything else to do," I answered quickly. She seemed to analyze me before finally believing me, and let herself be picked up by me, out of the cold water of the river.
I went inside the Pokemon centre and we ate dinner after waking up Milo from his nap. Getting into my bed I released Rapier who had stayed inside his pokeball, because he would attract too much attention. Milo settled on my side, already stumbling half-asleep. Kayda joined after she made sure everyone is comfortable in the bed. I'm excited for tomorrow as I plan on trying to find a new team member, with Rapier out of the battle for being inside a cocoon, I had to use Milo and Kayda in all my battles. I think I've been putting too much strain on the two, so a new team member could relieve a little of their work.
Waking up early again, so we would have the open space behind the Pokemon centre to ourselves until the other trainers also wake up. I decided to continue with the same training as yesterday, as Kayda could still get better at aiming and accurately hitting her targets, much to Milo's wet displeasure. For more of a challenge I tried to participate as well, I don't know how many times I was hit, but by the end of it, I and Milo are dripping with water.
"Yeah! We finally ended this nightmare!" Milo collapses into the towel that I extended for him. Sitting on the floor I let out puffs of breath, with my own towel on my head. Trying to participate more actively in the training of my Pokemon is very exhausting, but it's also very fun. I wonder if I should do this more times. Anyway getting up I go back to the Pokemon centre and change my clothes into a pair of dry ones. Funnily all the clothes I have are copies of the same pair, maybe I should buy new ones to wear something different sometimes.
I returned to both Kayda and Rapier and set towards Route 25. I plan on challenging the Nugget Bridge, the events on Mt. Moon showed that there are aspects of the game happening in this universe, so it is better if I am ready to fight a Team Rocket grunt at the end of the bridge. If I'm lucky I can even arrest him, and maybe get some intel on Team Rocket's plans. The pokedex will be able to send a message to the cops since the bridge is close to town, so if I can hold the grunt I don't see why I wouldn't be able to send him to jail.
It doesn't take long for me to reach the Nugget Bridge, and may I say that it is quite the sight. Walking to the boy standing at the entrance I ask him.
"I want to enter the Nugget Bridge Challenge." He looks down at me with what I think is a mixture of amusement and irritation.
"Sorry kid, but you need a trainers license to compete. Come back when you turn ten." I wince at his answer. I'm not that small, am I?
"I'm already ten." I show him my trainer ID for confirmation. He looked surprised at me, but he let me pass after seemingly double checking my document.
The Nugget Bridge started with some weak trainers and got more and more difficult as we continued to win the battles, one after another. I have to say that I underestimated the trainers on the challenge, fifteen battles in a row are no joke, for both me and my Pokemon. And not saying anything that as I advanced the trainers got stronger every time, one boy's Nidorino did quite the damage on Milo when he was able to land a super effective Double Kick. I think I now realize what Team Rocket's plan is, after the trainer battled the fifteen trainers in the bridge, his/her Pokemon will be too exhausted to win against the grunt if the offer to join Team Rocket is refused. I grimace looking at my team, Kayda is relatively fine, just very tired, but Milo, the one I mostly used, is panting and has various scratches on his body. I already gave them some Oran Berries, but they can only do so much.
Finally defeating the last trainer with a well-timed Swift, I get to the end of the bridge, after doing my best to heal my Pokemon, and see a man waiting with a box. He looks like some normal market worker, but knowing the game I don't let my guard down. I cautiously approach him while having my hands already griping Kayda pokeball. The man notices me walking and gives me a fake smile.
"Congratulations on beating the Nugget Bridge Challenge trainer!" I fell under his gaze, and I think I could almost feel the bad intentions slipping out of him. "I must say, those were some incredible battles." Trying to fake ignorance I smiled at him and attempted to appear excited.
"Yeah! Are you the one who sponsored the challenge?" I asked, the anticipation for this moment already killing me.
"Yes, and as promised here is your nugget, as a reward." The man opened the box that contained multiple small gold nuggets. If the price of the nuggets didn't change from the game I just made about ₱5000! Extending my hand to pick the nugget the man interrupts me, with the anticipated offer.
"Wait a moment, the organization that I work for is looking for strong trainers. This challenge was actually set to find worthy trainers and to offer them to join us." He said, and I faked being interested to not seem suspicious. "If you were to join us, you could earn much more money than this nugget! So what do you say?"
Looking into the eyes of the man I asked slowly. "Before answering may I ask what is the organization you work for?"
His friendly smile turned into a smirk when he heard my question. "The great Team Rocket of course!" And that confirms it. Jumping back away from the man I bring out Kayda's pokeball.
"Then you are a bad guy!" Milo shouted surprised and disgusted.
"But that's a crime organization!" The man frowned in disappointment.
"So you're one of those types, eh?" He says while reaching out for his own Pokemon. "I guess we'll have to do this the hard way then." He throws his pokeball revealing an Ekans.
"Milo you'll go first," I speak to Milo, who was at my shoulder, before jumping in battle stance. "Milo let's start with Quick Attack! Remember to stay away from its mouth." I gave the first command.
"Ekans, your opponent is already tired, use Screech and then Wrap." The snake Screeched, causing Milo's defense to fall, before trying to wrap around to fast-moving Milo.
"Milo, Sand Attack, and then Bite its neck!" Hearing my command Milo throws sand into Ekans's eyes, momentarily blinding it. These few seconds were sufficient time for Milo to get behind the snake and bite down on its neck. Thankfully until now, my plans were working, the Ekans would have a hard time doing anything to Milo while he is in that spot. I couldn't let the battle stand too much as Milo was still tired from the battles that we had earlier.
"Ekans, you useless snake get that Eevee out of you!" The Rocket grunt screamed, shaking his fists in anger. Ekans tried to struggle, but every moment that passed it was obvious its movements were getting weaker.
"Get off there Milo, and finish this off with Swift!" Milo jumped back and summoned various stars that hit the weakened Ekans, making it faint. Although Milo wasn't far from it as well, as he collapsed at my feet. Holding down while the Ekans struggled took more energy than I thought it would.
We both returned our Pokemon and the grunt snarled at me. "I guess you have to be good to have reached this far. But this is where it ends!" He said while throwing his last pokeball. "Go, Golbat!" The bat Pokemon took to the skies as soon as it left its pokeball.
"Kayda battle stance." I also released my Pokemon to the field. A Golbat not a Zubat, huh. This will be harder than expected. "Kayda use Bubblebeam minefield!" The grunt gave me a weird look, but Kayda started spilling a great number of bubbles all around the field. We had discovered when playing around with Bubblebeam that by concentrating Kayda could control the durability, power, and quantity of the bubbles. So we tested around until we found the best combination of the attributes to use in this combination attack, it still isn't perfect, but it will do.
"Those bubbles aren't even going towards Golbat! I guess you're just a stupid kid after all." The man laughed. "Golbat, use Frustration!" The bat dived towards Kayda as soon as the order left the grunt mouth. Frustration is a move that is more powerful the less close the Pokemon and the trainer are. Judging by how the Golbat seems to obey the grunt by fear and not loyalty I doubt anything good will come from letting Kayda be hit by the attack.
"Kayda, quick Smokescreen!" Stopping to throw bubbles, Kayda released a black cloud of ink. Something I'm still curious about, how that happens and how it works, but I haven't found a book about this subject, nor is it very important. Golbat stopped, before entering the smoke. I'm shocked when Kayda is sent flying out of the smoke, hit by Golbat. How did it know where she was? Wait, how could I forget that Golbat is a bat, it can obviously use echolocation!
"Hang in there Kayda! Use, Water Gun." Kayda slowly gets up, breathing heavily, and sends a blast of water towards the flying bat. Golbatd tries to evade, but our accuracy training paid off as Kayda shot accurate and calculative blasts of water that continuously hit Golbat.
I can't help but smile at seeing our training paying off. It's still not perfect, no, there is still a long way before it's even close to being perfect, and more faster and nimble opponents will easily avoid the attacks, but it's still an improvement. Shaking my thoughts away, I look back to the Battle to see the grunt command his Golbat.
"Evade them Golbat!" He screams, although it is useless as Golbat continues to get hit by the barrage of Water Gun. Also being restricted by the floating bubbles that seemed so innocent and useless before, now are waiting traps that don't cause much damage, but create perfect opportunities for Kayda to attack. "Use Air Cutter Golbat!" The growing desperate grunt commands.
"Kayda, end this with Twister!" Golbat sent blades of wind against Kayda, but they are imperfectly made and are absorbed in the small hurricane that Kayda creates. Being absorbed by the winds Golbat is constantly hit by the bubbles that were also absorbed by the strong force of the attack. When the winds calm down Golbat falls down and faints on the floor. I didn't have much time to celebrate as Kayda also feints after using the last of her energy in the last attack.
Smiling proudly, I pick up Kayda. "You did great," I say before I return her, and look at the infuriated Team Rocket grunt.
"How could I lose to a kid! You Worthless bat! This is all your fault!" He looked at me, anger obvious in his eyes. "Oh, but how fortunate, it appears both our Pokemon have fainted." He starts to lift his sleeves. "I guess I have to teach you a lesson myself." He said while giving me a maniac grin, and pulling his sleeves. I know I can't win against a grown adult in a fistfight with this tiny body of mine, thankfully I still have Rapier.
Getting Rapiers pokeball I release him, much to the Rocket grunt surprise. I don't know if it is because of Rapier's color, or simply because he was certain that I didn't have any other Pokemon, maybe both? But with a grin, I command my green cocoon.
"Rapier String Shot!" I'm really scared Rapier won't be able to use any other attacks other than Harden when a Kakuna, but I sight happily as that is not the case, and the grunt gets tied by Rapier's string.
After making sure the grunt can't escape I use my pokedex to call for the cops. It isn't long before they arrive and I have to explain the story of how he invited me to join Team Rocket, and how I won against him. I'm also super thankful for Professor Oak right now, as after he saw me interested in watching the Pokemon in his backyard, while I still lived with him, he decided to add a camera and a recorder to my pokedex. As otherwise, I would have to use my cellphone to record, and let's just say that I didn't want to have to invent some excuse for what it is, and how I obtained my cell phone. I think only my and Gary's pokedexes have this feature which makes me feel a little special. Since I recorded the entire thing, knowing he would be a member of Team Rocket, I had evidence. Hearing the record the police officers believed me, and took the man away for questioning.
"Officer, what will happen to his Pokemon?" I ask the officer Jenny a little awkwardly, who is in charge of the operation. She smiled softly to me after hearing my question. I won't lie, talking to important people always makes me nervous, and the cops aren't an exception.
"Don't worry, they will go through rehabilitation, and then released to the wild." Good, I don't have to worry, they'll be taken care of. "But I must say, I'm impressed. The way you handled the situation was quite exceptional." I blush at the compliment, as I'm not used to being complimented so highly.
"T-thanks, but it wasn't that great," I mumble. "And I wouldn't be able to do it if it wasn't for my Pokemon." I look down at Rapier that is secured by my arms. The little fluff ball is puffing his chest proudly.
"Anyway, good work." She said to me. "Your reward was already deposited in your trainer account." My head snapped towards her, my face morphed in surprise.
"Reward? What reward?" I asked her confused while tilting my head. It was just one grunt, wasn't it? It wasn't that big of a thing.
"You didn't expect that we wouldn't reward you after you captured a member of Team Rocket. Did you?" She laughed as she ruffled my hair. "Who knows how much trainers this guy would attack if you didn't stop him." I guess that's true, but still…
Not long after the officers let me leave, and I went immediately to the Pokemon centre to heal my Pokemon. Since it is already quite late I decided to eat lunch while I wait for my Pokemon to be discharged. I still want to go to route 25 to try to catch a new Pokemon, thinking over the most probable options, I think an Oddish would be fine since I don't have any grass types or even a Pidgey. I finished my food quickly and went to the front desk as my Pokemon must be close to finished.
I walk the Nugget Bridge again, this time without battling, and I can't help but appreciate the nice breeze hitting my face. Getting to route 25 I decide to walk around with Milo perched on my shoulder, and see if I can find something. I don't plan on going very far as route 25 is quite big and I don't plan on sleeping outside. I silently made my way through the trees. I'm not taking the road there's less of a chance to find Pokemon there.
I've been walking for about an hour without finding anything I could or wanted to catch. I did see some Pidgeys and Spearows, but they were flying high, so I didn't have much of a chance of catching them. And I did find a Caterpie, but I already have Rapier and he is enough.
I suddenly freeze as I hear a soft, almost inaudible sound. Milo also freezes and only has his ears moving around trying to find the source of the noise. Slowly, and as silently as I can muster, I make my way to where Milo is pointing. Looking over a bush I'm surprised to find a sleeping Abra resting against a tree. Who would expect an Abra of All things? But as rare and appealing the Abra is I also know that at the first sign of danger it will teleport away.
Painfully slowly I picked up an empty pokeball from my bag and with a sudden movement I threw it at Abra as fast as I can, not letting it have time to react. It appeared the world is at my side today, as the pokeball hit Abra before it can use Teleport and sucked it in. Clapping my hands together I pray to Arceus that the Abra will stay inside. I used a normal pokeball so it is all up to luck now, if Abra escapes the pokeball it will use Teleport, so I only have this one chance.
Mine and Milo's eyes stay glued in the pokeball that hit Abra as it shakes. We seem to bend more and more forward at every slight movement it makes until it shakes a third time and let out what at this moment I think is the most beautiful sound I have ever heard. Falling on the floor as I lost balance from bending forward too much I let out a laugh. What are the chances? Finding an Abra, and then capturing it with a normal pokeball.
"I did it!" I exclaim happily while holding the pokeball with my hand. "What with this bloody luck I have? Not that I'm angry or anything."
"For a moment there I thought he would escape!" Milo said as he jumped on me and looked at the pokeball in wonder. So it is a male, good to know I guess.
Getting up I release the Abra from the pokeball. I can't help but sweatdrop as I see that he is still sleeping. Maybe it wasn't luck after all that allowed me to catch Abra. Bending low I tried to softly shake him awake.
"Hey there buddy, wakey wakey." The Abra seemed to slowly come to his senses after letting out a yawn. The little guy is incredibly adorable, slowly waking up from his nap.
"A human? Am I still dreaming?" He mumbles quietly.
Shaking my head I gave him a pat "No, you're very much awake." He looks at me in the eyes before tilting his head.
"A human that can understand me? Yes, this is definitely still a dream." He said quietly but gave out a scream when Milo jumped on him.
"Cut it out, Milo." I reprimanded him after removing him from sitting above the poor Abra "Look, I know this may be a little sudden, but I threw a pokeball at you and managed to successfully catch you... " We stayed in an awkward silence for a couple of seconds, with him just giving a look, before he drew a huge breath and let it out slowly.
"So you're saying that you're my trainer now?" I nodded slowly, afraid of how he would react. He gave a pause before continuing. "Ok then, but you better give me a lot of time to nap!" Having to take a couple of seconds for his answer to be registered by my brain, I give him a startled look. How is he taking this so easily and nonchalantly? Well, I guess it doesn't matter. I gave him a nod, as I don't mind his request, and he seemed satisfied enough.
"Can I give you a name then? I prefer if I have something to call you that isn't your species name." He looked like he was thinking about it carefully before he gave me his permission. "How about the name Zion?"
"Mmm, Ok, I'll accept it." He said simply before dozing off and falling asleep. Letting out a laugh I returned him to his pokeball and headed back to Cerulean City with Milo walking alongside me. Now that I'm thinking about it, didn't I want to capture a new Pokemon because the strain on Milo and Kayda was too big? But doesn't Abra only learn Teleport until he evolves? What was the point?
