The next day, the family gathered for breakfast. Luna was the first at the table with a cup of coffee and her eggs the way she liked them with bacon.
"Got ourselves an early riser huh?" asked Luan. Luna didn't say a word.
"Hey Lunes, I hope you're not feeling too bad about your assignment anymore," said Lana who was sitting across from the rocker.
"I never really was, except when I deal with Luan's jokes. Why?" she asked. Then Lana stood up on her chair, grabbed a basketball that Lynn Jr. was carrying with her and managed to stuff it down the front of her overalls.
"Because I'm having a baby too!" she laughed. Luna allowed herself a smile while Leni looked confused (no surprise).
"That's cute Lana, actually, when I was pregnant with Lucy, and again with you and Lola, LJ here used to do that for me as a joke as well," she said. Now everyone went "OOOOO" right at poor Lynn Jr. who blushed with embarrassment. After breakfast, everybody rushed back upstairs to grab their things and brush their teeth. Lori and Leni lingered behind for a moment with Luna, and Luna was surprised to see her two older siblings actually grab each other's arms and actually form a chair for her! Then the two of them carried her up the stairs. This was actually turning out to be a good morning!
Once the kids got to school, Luna met up with her bandmates, Sully still wore the bump over his t-shirt, probably because he didn't want ridicule from everyone.
"So, what's it been like at home for you guys? I'm just curious because my fam has been really supportive, Mum's even lent me some of her old maternity clothes, which is why I'm not wearing my usual duds," Luna asked.
"My family kept making jokes the whole time. Luckily, they eased up this morning, but this week is not going to be easy," replied Sully.
"Not too bad, once I explained that this was part of an assignment, my parents were really supportive too, even offered to draw out the couch bed so I wouldn't have to make walks up the stairs," answered Mazzy. Sam pulled out her phone.
"Well, once we finished our homework, my brother Simon asked if I'd play one of our favorite video games together, and well, our mom took this photo," she said, showing a photograph of her and her younger brother with video game controllers.
"What's that got to do with the assignment?" asked a confused Sully.
"Mom thought it was hilarious we both had big bellies we could rest our controllers on! Friday night, we sometimes have movie night, and I can almost guarantee, somebody's going to use this puppy as a snack tray!" answered Sam.
"Easy, use it as a tray yourself! That way, it stays your property," suggested Mazzy. Everyone had a laugh at that. Once again, they went through their day, and decided to gather around for music club once again after school had been let out. Sully then pointed out something rather important on their calendar.
"We've got a gig at that club on Saturday, and as we found out yesterday, performing with these puppies on is not easy," he explained.
"Well, I don't exactly like the idea of cancelling, especially since today's Wednesday and this could be an important step for us," said Mazzy.
"Well yeah, but we can't perform our rock moves with these pregnant bellies, even if they are fake!" exclaimed Sam. That's when there was a knock on the door. It was Principal Rivers.
"Hey, can I come in?" she asked, Luna and her friends nodded. Rivers walked over to them, pulled up a chair and sat down.
"I couldn't help but overhear that you are having difficulties performing with your pretend baby bumps, rest assured, I know about the assignment, after all, I have to be the one to approve of these things," Rivers started.
"Well, it's hard to handle a guitar around these puppies, especially when we have straps. Plus, trying to do some of our actions are kind of difficult, y'know these puppies make it hard to really rock the way we normally do because they restrict our movements and it's easy to get tired carrying them around," said Sam.
"Well, if any of you girls go through the real thing, you'll realize how much more difficult it is. So, where exactly are you playing this Saturday? And please be honest," asked Principal Rivers.
"Well, it's a locally owned restaurant, yes they do serve drinks, but don't worry, we have no plans for alcohol. They have this stage where they invite local performers to do what they enjoy and we're just concerned, with these bumps, even though it is not the real thing, may make us unable to perform like we normally do, no stage kicks, no heavy dancing, and definitely no stage dives," explained Luna.
"Can't imagine why you'd attempt a stage dive in a restaurant, not exactly an ideal spot, but never mind. Well, if I may make a suggestion, have any of you heard of Joan Baez?" asked Rivers. The four teenagers shook their heads.
"Well, she was a singer and a guitar player in the sixties. She was the final performer on the opening day of Woodstock on August 15, 1969 just a little before 1 in the morning," Here the teenagers eyes grew wide in amazement.
"The reason I'm telling you this is because, at the time, she herself was six months pregnant when that festival happened. Tragically, her husband couldn't accompany her because he was in prison for refusing the draft. That's off-topic. Anyway, if you're interested, why don't you dress yourselves up in sixties gear and say that you're doing a tribute to her, learn some of her songs and play them and a few other hits from that era, after all, musicians always borrow from each other anyway," explained Rivers. Now the four teenagers smiled and nodded in agreement.
"Y'know, that could actually work! Plus, sixties music was so radical!" said Luna.
"Yeah, my folks have some clothes from that time in their attic we could borrow, it'll work!" said Mazzy.
"Not to mention, it might make Mr. Sully feel less uncomfortable about performing with his tummy like that!" laughed Rivers, making Sully blush uncontrollably.
