Chapter Four

It was like a scene right out of the Dawn of The Dead, but worse because this was real life. People were screaming and running around, fires were burning, blood was everywhere.

It was chaos.

Luckily for her she was used to dealing with chaos.

It was as if a switch had been switched, she quickly took in her surroundings, her weight shifting on her feet in case she had to run. Blue eyes narrowed as people ran about in a panic, how easy it was for society to fall apart...past, present or future, it would always be the same.

Shoulders squared she turned on her heel and went back into the house latching the door behind her. With quick strides she went to the closet and grabbed a dark green backpack. It was with calm easy steps she moved around the room grabbing a water bottle, some travel snacks, and a few other odds and ends.

There was no telling how long it would take to get to the hospital in this mess. Normally it was a half hour but that could easily be doubled, there could be road blockages, riots, looting. Best to be ready in times like this.

Food shoved in the bag she made her way to the closet and grabbed more ammo, a pocket knife, as well as their emergency kit. Flashlight, batteries, first aid kit, all those little odds and ends. She also grabbed a hoodie and pair of running shoes.

Supplies gathered she slung the bag on her shoulders and made her way towards the front door she unlatched it and gathered the keys in her hands, getting the key for the car ready. She paused for a second and sighed pulling her long black hair into a messy bun to keep it out of her face and less accessible should someone try to grab her by it.

Eyes narrowed she fling the door open and made a quick sprint towards the car she easily threw the door open and slid in the driver's seat and started the car her mind set on one thing, get to the hospital. Get to Shane.

When Kagome drove she saw things she would have never thought possible. Things...creatures, once human yet not anymore, where on the street, eating people.

The aura of death hung heavy in the air.

These...creatures, were tearing into other human and eating them. Kagome felt horror go through her as she continued driving. She needed to make it to the hospital.

Tears were already in her eyes as she saw young children who looked like the creatures, going after others.

'Oh god...' Kagome thought as she continued driving down the street and to the entrance of the hospital. She quickly pulled her car into park, and went into her glove box. Shane had left a spare in the car just in case.

Plus with two guns she had double the chances of making it to Shane without a hitch.

Grabbing the gun out she checked and made sure it was loaded, she slid the clip back into place, making sure the safety was off as she silently stepped out of the car.

She kept her cellphone on her, set to vibrate, and made sure to keep her car unlocked in case they needed to make a quick escape. She didn't know what exactly was going on...but whatever was going on wasn't normal.

Not normal at all.

Her blue eyes looked around sharply as she made it into the hospital, making use of her years in the feudal era as she took silent and stealthy steps to Rick's room. She knew she could made it there quickly, but she needed to be smart about it.

Gun raised and ready to fire if need be she stalked her way down the hall, easily tuning out the chaos from years of practice. Mildly she wondered when the sounds of screams and crying stopped bothering her. When did the sight and scent of blood become normal? Granted it helped steal her for her chosen profession it was still unsettling.

Shaking the thoughts out of her head she scolded herself, losing oneself in their thoughts was an easily and foolish way to get one's self killed.

Target in sight she easily made her way past the screaming and running people grunting as a few of them bumped into her in their haste to get out of the hospital. Teeth grit she shoved her way past the herd and felt her heart beat quicken as she rounded the corner and spotted Rick's room.

The officers that had been posted on duty to keep an eye on him were long gone, their chairs tossed to the side. There were small splatters of blood and empty bullet casings. Lowering the gun she picked up her pace hoping the blood wasn't Shane, Lori's, or Carl's.

It was in her haste that she made a mistake, she should have scouted ahead before rushing in yet she hadn't and it was with gritted teeth that she was knocked to the ground, the gun being flung out of her hand as dead weight settled on her lower back.

Dread filled her as cold clammy hands grabbed at her, the sound of gnashing teeth filling her ears. Adrenaline flooded her veins as she bucked against the dead weight grunting as she scrambled from under it. She quickly got to her feet teetering a bit as she steadied herself by grasping onto a nearby abandoned gurney.

Her gaze locked on her attacker as she felt a shiver go down her spine, dead black eyes gazed up at her as a bloody stump tried to shove itself up again in order to attack. She quickly scanned the hallway for her gun and paled as she noticed it. Sitting pretty halfway down the hall right where more of those things were and they noticed her. They shambling towards her arms outstretched as if to grab her, their mouth opening and closing as if already chewing on her flesh.

Well fuck.

Kagome took a deep breath as she quickly through her body over the gurney arms going for the door handle, her whole body crashing to the floor as she quickly scrambled up off the floor and closed the door. She turned around going over the room, no one was here. She would have to wait here for a bit until she could figure out what to do.

Rick's room was literally three doors down from her. She needed a way to get around the creatures. Kagome could hear the creatures outside the door, in the hall. She gave a shaky breath as she stepped back, back hitting the wood door and let her body slide down until she was sitting on the cold tile.

She had no clue what to do.

Kagome could only hope she would see the people she loved again.
