Opal and Garret gotten closer they were best friends now. They did everything together . Their dogs become friendly too.
The Preacher said that they would have a party that night and there would be food and music. It would be at Gloria Dumps place. Garret asked if he could go and his parents said sure. They went outside and unchained Penny and Winn dixie from the pole and gave Winn dixie to Opal
Later that day they played with the other kids in the creek and they were chatting about the party . Opal said she would be there along with Otis , Amana,Miss Franny the Dunlop boys and Mr Alfred. They chatted while Opal drew a picture.
Garret said he liked her drawing. Opal gave it to him as a gift. Garret plucked a daisy and gave it to her. Thanks she said and put it in her hair. You look pretty with that flower in your hair he told her causing both to blush and turned away from each other.
That Evening Garret put on a button up shirt and Jean's for the party. You look so handsome his mother told him. I'm sure Opal will be impressed by your clothes. Mom Garret groaned.
They drove to Gloria's place and there were lights everywhere. Their were lots of beautiful flowers and they had tables set up. Hey Garret Opal shouted from behind him when he saw her he was speechless. She was wearing a sleeveless red dress that went down to her knees . She had her hair in a bow.
You look like a angel Garret said covering his mouth realizing what he said. Thanks Garret she said giving him a kiss on the cheek. His parents smiled at him making him blush.
They got some food and sat down. They chatted for a little while with Gloria and Otis played some music and they all sang.
After a while they sat down and suddenly Otis played some slow dance music a d their friends danced to it.
Opal and Garret just watched until Garret asked you wanna dance? I don't know how Opal said me neither he said to her. He then took her hand and dragged her onto the dance floor. He put his hands on her waist and they danced to the music. They danced for about 20 minutes as their parents watched. The Preacher smiled as he watched. He liked Garret he was a good kid. After Opal and Garret spent alot of time together he could tell why his daughter liked him.
He knew that Garret loved Opal too.
An hour later the party was over and they hugged each other goodbye for the night. When Garret got home he brushed his teeth and undressed . He then climbed into bed and looked outside and saw it was raining. Good thing the party was done already he thought to himself. He then fell asleep dreaming of Opal.
An hour later after his parents were asleep he heard a knocking at his window. He got up and walked towards his bedroom window .When he looked out his window he was suprised to see Opal there. She was wearing just a large t shirt like before but this one covered her legs a bit more.
He opened his window to let her in.
What's wrong? he asked . Just couldn't sleep. My dad is working late tonight tonight and I let Winn dixie stay with him. Mind if I sleep here ? Sure Garret said.
Garret turned on his light and went to the bathroom to go pee. When he got returned noticed Opal staring at him. He looked down he forgetting he was wearing only his underwear.
Sorry am I being gross ? You want me to put some pants on? No it's fine Opal told him. Guess we are even now seeing that we both seen each other in our sleep clothes Opal said. Except your just in your underwear Opal said smiling Causing Garret to blush.
They both climbed into his bed. And got cozy and they chatted for a few hours they talked about the party and their dance. They both didn't realize that they were starting to fall for each other more.
They soon fell asleep with smiles on their faces.
The next morning Garrett's parents came in his room the next morning shocked to find Opal sleeping with him. His mother noticed that they were holding hands while they sleep.
She told her parents to get the camera to take a picture. We can show the picture at their wedding his mom said. And If they don't get married ? his father asked.
Trust me they will his mom said and took a few pictures and let them sleep.
The Preacher knocked on their door to ask if Opal was there. They told him yes that Opal was sleeping in Garrett's room and showed him the picture. The Preacher thought it was cute how they held hands while they slept and decided to go home and wait for them to wake up.
When Garret woke up he was shocked to find Opal sleeping next to him. He then remembered that she wanted to stay that night and smiled.
Opal's eyes opened and she remembered where she was. She saw Garret looking at her. Morning he said. Thanks for letting me stay over she said smiling your welcome. Suddenly his mom came in oh good your awake care for some breakfast ? I go back before my dad finds out Opal said. Don't worry your dad already knows he came here but was fine with you staying here .
Okay Opal said getting up. Garret put some pants on and joined her at breakfast they had eggs and bacon for breakfast. Afterwards Opal went back home. Garret apologized to the Preacher for Opal staying at his house last night but the Preacher was fine with Opal staying there. He said that they could have a sleepover if they wanted too which made them happy.
After Opal changed into a Jean skirt overalls and t shirt they played catch with their dogs laughing as their parents watched.
