Twenty-two-year-old Nymphadora Tonks sits quietly across from her parents and boyfriend at the dinner table. It was just another Saturday night at her childhood home. She and Jordan had become accustomed to having dinner at her parent's house every Saturday night. Although they lived in a flat of their own in London, there was still something about having your mother cook for you.
Nymphadora and Jordan had met in Auror training nearly three years ago. While they had attended Hogwarts together, they never ran in the same crowd. Nymphadora was a Hufflepuff and Jordan a Gryffindor. Not only a Gryffindor, but their star Quidditch player as well. Being as uncoordinated as she was, Nymphadora never got in with the Quidditch crowd.
However, once in Auror training, the two realized how much they had in common. Being one of the only girls in the class made Nymphadora a hot commodity amongst her testosterone-pumped male peers. Jordan was the only one who never saw her as an object and more as an equal. This naturally drew her to him, and he became her first ever official boyfriend. She had never had time while in school, too busy breaking curses and playing practical jokes.
While Jordan may have been a good companion, he was certainly not a good Auror. He flunked out after his first year, much to Nymphadora's dismay. This disappointed her mentor, Alastor Moody, even more when he realized she was still seeing him.
"I can't believe someone as talented and ambitious as you are wasting their time with a loser like him," he growled at her one day.
Jordan, however, managed to get another job within the Ministry. Custodial.
While the money wasn't good, it did allow them to move out together into a studio flat in London at only twenty years old. They had been living together, much to Alastor's dismay, for over two years now. Nymphadora was content, comfortable in this little life she lived with Jordan. She didn't really feel alive, except when she was at work, which was a lot. Being one of the only women meant she had a lot to prove.
Suddenly, just as her mother was about to serve tea, an owl taps on their kitchen window. Her father gets up to retrieve it.
"Dora," he calls. "It's for you."
She quirks an eyebrow and looks over at Jordan curiously before striding into the kitchen. The message was short and simple: Aurors were needed immediately to secure an incident at Hogwarts.
"I'll be damned," she chuckles.
"About?" Ted questions.
"I've had a bad feeling about the Final Task all week."
She skips back into the dining room to give her mother a quick hug. "Sorry mum, I've got to go. Duty calls."
She leans to give Jordan a quick kiss on the cheek before running out to the porch to apparate. She lands heavily on the platform of Hogsmeade station, where she had been told to rendezvous.
Her temporary supervisor, Frank Holden, calls for her down the platform. He had shown up last September when Alastor took a leave of absence to teach at Hogwarts.
She whips around, an apology already spilling over her lips. "Sorry Holden," she huffs, running to catch up with him. "Jordan and I were having dinner with my parents."
"Well, dinner party is over. A boy's been killed."
