Chapter 6:
There are only three periods left to the day now, and next period starts in twenty minutes. Mr. Schue is incredibly nervous to leave Rachel alone in the state she is in but knows that she will probably just sleep through the rest of the day. He has already emailed the rest of her teachers explaining that she will not be attending classes, but to not mark her absent (Since Mr. Schue knows how important Rachels perfect attendance is to her).
Mr. Schue is now continuing to grade the exams that he never finished going through from first period, due to his concern for Rachel as she "attended the nurse." She has now been asleep for thirty minutes, and abruptly wakes up just as Mr. Schue finished grading the last paper.
Trying to make it into the garbage, she completely misses and throws up all over her clothing. Mr. Schue rushes over and tries to calm her down, but she is violently shaking at this point.
Not wanting to startle the rest of the glee kids but knowing that Kurt knew what was going on at the start of the day, he calls Kurt down from his classroom. Kurt comes in, and the expression on his face just drops.
"Oh my gosh! What happened to Rachel. I knew she was sick Mr. Schue, but she looks one-hundred times worse than this morning." Kurt gasps out.
"Kurt I called you down here because I need you to find an extra pair of clothes for Rachel. I know she fully trusts you, but please don't tell the rest of the glee kids about what is going on yet because I don't want them surrounding her right now." Says Mr. Schue. "Don't worry, I am taking good care of her, and I am monitoring her to see if she needs to go to the Hospital." He adds on.
Kurt calming down a bit, gives Rachel a loving rub on the shoulder and ventures off to find her a fresh new outfit.
Mr. Schue once again begins to rub small circles on Rachels back, trying to calm her down once more. "Do you think you are going to throw up again?" He asks worriedly.
Not being able to speak, she just nods no and rests her head on Mr. Schue's shoulder for comfort. Knowing that Rachel needs the support right now, Mr. Schue embraces her attachment with open arms.
"Ok Rachel, I need to get up and take your temperature to make sure things haven't gotten much worse." He says. Rachel once again just nods.
Mr. Schue retrieves the thermometer from inside of his desk, and swiftly moves it across her forehead. He is relieved to see the numbers say 103.0, knowing it is still an extremely high fever, but is slightly stabilizing.
Rachel tries to lay back down, but Mr. Schue doesn't allow her being that her clothes are covered in bile. Rachel seemed to have luckily missed the couch, jacket and even blanket, but got it all over her shirt and pants. Since he didn't have any extra supplies to keep her warm, he wanted to keep everything else clean until a new pair of clothes arrived.
At that instant, Kurt came back in the room with a pair of black leggings, and a brightly colored pink shirt. Mr. Schue thanked Kurt, as Kurt exited the room kissing the top of Rachels head, letting her know that he is always there for her. A slight grin forms across her face.
Mr. Schue helps Rachel in a position to be able to change her clothes on her own but turns himself to the wall as the event occurs. It is hard for her, as she is so weak at the moment; but she knows she cannot ask for help from her teacher in this situation.
After ten minutes, Rachel whimpers that she is changed but whispers "Mr. Schue, I don't think I can make it back on the couch by myself; there is nothing left in me."
Mr. Schue without hesitation scoops her back up and places her back on the couch, once again wrapping her in the jacket and soft warm blanket. He hates seeing Rachel, such a mentally strong and independent girl this helpless.
The bell rings indicating that it is time for 5th period. Rachel is already fast asleep, but once again Mr. Schue must wake her up. After a few attempts at gently shaking the groggy and sick teen awake, she slightly opens her eyes.
"Rachel, I have to go teach my class now; but if you need me for anything, and I mean anything, call my room! I left a garbage in case you get sick again, and a bottle of water next to the couch. But if you drink the water, drink small amounts and slowly" emphasizes Mr. Schuester.
Rachel gives a weak "Thank you" and closes her eyes once more.
Authors note: This was such a fun chapter to write! I really aimed to show the bond between Rachel and Mr. Schuester, and I hope it came through that way! Once again thank you for reading and please review!
