Earth Defense Force: Alpha Omega 7

Mission 1: Monsters in the streets

It was a beautiful day in Tokyo with the sun shining and citizens roaming around, going about their lives in glee. A group of soldiers could be seen walking down the streets, appearing to be patrolling. It was a ranger squad for the local division of Earth Defense Force, a private military regime that came to be after the United Nations established a base on the moon in order to continue research towards space travel.

"I think a nice bowl of ramen after I'm done with patrol duty would be a dream come true, want to join me O'Hara?" a soldier towards the back of the group stated.

"That is the greatest idea you've ever had George." O'Hara replied, slowing his pace allowing George to catch up. The two had gone through boot camp together three years ago and have remained close friends and squad mates ever since. Not much happens with EDF, but that's just fine with the pair, as well as most people who join the division, they prefer a cozy lifestyle with the added benefits of being able to mess around with some badass weapons. There were the classic assault rifles, shotgun, snipers, and even rocket launchers, and then there was the weirder weapons that ranged from a shoulder mounted cruise missile, that flies at the speed of a turtle, to what looks like a water gun that shoots out a stream of acid. The EDF hade one hell of a R&D department, and those guys always seem to pump out something new every few weeks for the rangers to try out. Recently they have developed a suit of armor designed to withstand a tank shell, shot directly at it, but because of its weight, the driver's movement is very slow, and their weapons are unwieldy as hell.

George could barely wait for his patrol duty to be over so he could dig into a delicious bowl of hot ramen, extra spicy, just as he likes it.

"God damn O'Hara I'm so hungry man. I haven't eaten since 7 o'clock this morning." George exclaimed.

"It's just turned noon George; we'll be finishing up after the next two blocks. I think your sink hole of a stomach can wait until then." He always seemed to be the more mature of the two, and sometimes George wished he could be more like his friend. More levelheaded, and wise, like he knows what's around the next corner at all times. George really liked that about his pale. Unfortunately, what was actually around the next corner is something that neither George nor O'Hara could ever have seen coming.

Right before the squad of rangers reached the corner of the next street, a loud scream ripped through the air like a clap of thunder. The group began to run towards the sound of the scream, but once they got there, what they couldn't believe what they were seeing. A giant black ant was just walking through the streets. It was about the size of a school bus, and was lunging at civilians in an effort to grab them with its gigantic pincers

"What the hell? Is that an ant?" asked Yoko, another ranger on the team.

"It sure looks like one. Oh no it just picked up a woman! "exclaimed another. Looking on in horror, the giant ant picked up a fleeing woman and within seconds of grabbing hold of her, the insect bit down and chopped her in half. All the squad could do is watch as the two halves fell to the ground and hear the woman scream in agony until she slowly fell quiet.

"Oh my god! What the fuck is going on? That thing just bit her in half like it was nothing." George yelled

"I have no clue what's going on, but we need to protect the rest of the civilians. Fire at will men!" the captain yelled. At that moment every soldier raised their weapons and opened fire at the monster. To the surprise of the soldiers the ant was quickly torn apart by the hellfire, despite its size it was pretty weak.

"Well that was pretty easy to deal with. Hopefully that's going to be the end of this. Aplha-3 call in HQ and tell them what happened and that we need the corner to…"

"AHHH! Somebody help! There are monsters coming."

The group of EDF soldiers turned towards the sounds of the screams and what they saw sent a wave of shivers down their whole bodies. A giant wave of black death was barreling towards them. The captain immediately gave the order for his men to take a firing position, but when he turned to look at his men most of them had begun to run away in fear.

"Where the hell are y'all going? Get back here and take up your positions right now!" screamed the captain, but it was no use. They were already gone, and only five men out of the squad of thirty remained. The captain, O'Hara, George, Yoko, and Rin where all standing and focused on the monsters still coming their way.

"Captain what are we going to do?" asked Yoko.

"The only thing that we can do. Stay and kill as many of these things as possible." Seemingly satisfied with that answer, the remaining team turned and held up their weapons. Between the group there were three assault rifles, one shotgun, and a sniper with each holing three additional grenades. They all hoped it would be enough, but they all somehow knew that it wasn't.

As the ants grew closer, the captain gave Yoko the order to begin firing his sniper rifle in order to take a few of them out. The first shot managed to hit the beast leading the pack right in the head, and it blew the giant beast open like it was a M80 in a watermelon. Yoko continued to fire, each time taking out another monster, but it took a while for each shot. The sniper could only hold five rounds and it took about three seconds to pull the bolt back and load the next shot. In the time that it took the hoard to reach the team Yoko could only kill eight of them.

When the hoard finally got close to them the captain gave everyone the order to toss out their grenades straight into the pile of ants. When they did, the explosion was massive, and it even sent multiple shattered body parts flying straight into the air with green blood following close behind. Once that was done the captain gave the final order to fire at will, and when he finished the sentence a hell fire of bullets fell down upon the ants. Their bodies were just as weak as the other ant from earlier, as they saw their bullets rip through them like they were made of cheap styrofoam. The group kept up their fire for a solid ten seconds, and in that time, they managed to cut down the hoard of ants to about half the size, but that was still enough to completely surround them.

By the time the squad had managed to fully reload the monster were able to reach them and the first thing they did was sweep up Yoko like a toy. Yoko let out a horrendous scream as the monster bit down on his waist. Fortunately, because of how tough his armor was, the giant ant wasn't able to immediately cut him in half like the woman before, but that didn't mean he didn't feel the pressure from the large pincers. Through sheer force of will Yoko managed to place the barrel of his rifle against the ants' giant head and then pull the trigger. A giant hole blew threw the head causing Yoko to be suddenly be jolted free, but when he landed, the force of the impact had turned his legs to dust. As he laid there is agony and being swarmed by more and more monsters, Yoko pulled out his last grenade and pulled the pin. Before the others could even move to help him, the grenade went off, killing himself and taking four monsters along with him.

"Yoko no!" screamed O'Hara, as he unleashed another magazine of bullets into the giant beasts that had just killed his friend. Yoko would not be the only casualty, it seemed that every minute the team kept fighting, another squad mate would be killed. The captain was grabbed by another ant and was brutally thrashed around, breaking every bone in his body, then when they got close to Rin, he decided to be a cowered and turned his shotgun on himself, blowing his head clean off. The only two remaining were George and O'Hara, as they stood back to back and unloading their guns into each monster that came into their sight, they were eventually able to cut down what looked like the last of the giant ants. When they finally killed the last one, both turned to each other and clasped hands.

"Thank god you're still alive O'Hara. When they got the captain, I thought that we were all surely done for."

"That's no way to think George. I had your back the whole time. Now we need to hurry and call HQ in order to tell them about the situation."

"Alright man, I'll call it in." As George turned to his radio O'Hara saw one last monster begin to lunge towards George. O'Hara grabbed George and threw him out of the way, but before he could raise his gun, the ant managed to grab O'Hara by the head. It then lifted him up and, as George watch in horror, it bit down, completely crushing O'Hara's head.

George quickly raised to his feet, and as he was screaming his fallen friends name, he pulled the trigger of his assault rifle, but only one bullet came out, hitting the monster in the leg. He began to panic as the beast turned towards him, and fumbled at his belt for another magazine, but before he could put it in the gun the monster was starting to convulse in a way that the others hadn't before. Instead of lunging at him again, the ant released an orange liquid straight at George. He managed to roll out of the way, but a large amount still managed to hit him in the leg. The moment it made contact, a spike of pain rushed through Georges body, causing him to drop to the ground.

When he looked at his leg, George was horrified to see what remained of it melting straight to the bone.

"Did that fucker just shoot acid at me?! It can shoot fucking acid!?" he screamed to himself. He didn't have much time to cry over the pain however, as he saw the giant ant begin to convulse again, and he knew that this time it would not miss. George picked up his gun and, fighting through the pain, slapped another magazine into his gun. At what seemed like the last moment he had, George unloaded his weapon directly into the ant's body, tearing it to shreds and sending it flying. When he finally ran out of bullets, and his gun clicked with the sound of an empty mag, George dropped to the ground and fell unconscious.

A few weeks after the sudden appearance of monsters in Tokyo a mass funeral was held for each of the fallen members. The ones that had ran away were subsequently discharged and lock up for abandoning their duty and leaving fellow soldiers to die in the line of fire. George had not only lost his closest friend, but both of his legs were damaged beyond repair. While he was unconscious the remaining acid that melted one leg had puddled under his other leg and chewing through most of it before the rescue team could recover him and his squad mats remains.

Yoko's body wasn't able to be recovered due to the remains being scattered, so his casket was left empty, but the others were able to be placed into theirs. The funeral went along with many family members crying and others cursing the beasts that showed up out of nowhere and took their loved ones away, but George was only able to sit in silence, in his wheelchair. When the service was over, he approached the general of EDF, that had attended the funeral, and after the formalities, George wasted no time in asking the general what he wanted.

"I want to be placed into the Fencer project." George demanded

"Excuse me son? That's a top-secret program. Who told you about that?"

"That doesn't matter. What does matter is that I know that I can still fight, and if I was in one of those suits, I could do just that."

"Listen George, I understand that this has been very hard for you, but I can't just let you get into one of those suits and go all willy nilly. It takes a lot of training to just be able to move in one of those things, and in your condition…"

"I know that I can do it. I have to be able to fight again. I've already heard that there are more of those bastards out there, terrorizing cities around the world."

"George I cannot stress how much it takes to be able to operate one of those things, much less be able to fight with one. They are extremely temperamental. Do you really think you can do it without any legs?"

"I don't think I can, I know I can. Whatever it takes to avenge my fallen comrades, I'll do it. No matter how much it hurts, or how close to death I might get. I will do anything if it means I can take a few more of those monsters down with me."

"Alright George, I'll see what I can do, but don't get your hopes up too much. This will be a long shot, but I think it is the least you deserve for what you've been through."

"A long shot is all I need General. Thank you."
