Chapter 9:
Without hesitation, Mr. Schue avoids all orders to stay in the waiting room and pushes through the big hospital doors.
He follows the sounds of Rachel's screams, and finds her in a room with five doctors trying to hold her down.
"What is going on in here!" Mr. Schue shouts. Rachel finally calms down as she locks eyes with him, knowing that a familiar face is nearby.
Finally catching her breath, Rachel states "Please Mr. Schue, I hate hospitals! I tried to leave but they wouldn't let me. I'm ok now, I promise. I just want to go home"
"Rachel you are incredibly sick, and your fever is still 103. With your fathers being out of town, I am afraid you have to stay here at least one night." The doctor explains sympathetically.
Knowing he has to do something in this situation to relieve all of the pain Rachel is going through, Mr. Schue says "I would be more than happy to take Rachel home. Since I am her teacher and know her parents, I can get parental right for a few days."
"Mr. Schue you don't have to do that. You have already done so much for me and I can care for myself now." She barely chokes out, as her adrenaline fades away, and her fever begins to kick back in.
The doctors agree that this arrangement will work. "I am going to have to give you medication that you need to make sure she is taking. This fever is extreme so you will really need to watch over Rachel and ensure she is ok for the next few days. She is still really out of it despite the words coming out of her mouth; and if her fever rises above 104, you need to bring her back immediately."
Mr. Schue agrees with the doctors and calls the school to inform them and get approval of caring for Rachel for the next few days.
Rachel once again becoming out of it doesn't acknowledge what her teacher says, but knows whatever he decides will be the best for her.
