Chapter 1: Losing Humanity

The first thing that Tanjiro Kamada registered when he opened his eyes was the strong smell of blood filling his nostrils.

Tanjiro shifted in the ground as he managed to sit down and look around his surroundings. His eyes widened as he saw that his home was covered in blood, with the bodies of his family sprawled on the floor. His first reaction was to scream as the memories came back.

*1 Day Earlier*

He remembers arriving home after selling coal in the town and being received by his siblings. After some hours, an unknow man came into his home. He knocked the door and Tanjiro opened it to see a man in his late twenties, unnatural pale complexion, black hair and red eyes.

Tanjiro smiled at him "Hello, may I help you?"

The man nodded a smile on his face "Yes, I am looking for Tanjiro Kamado. You may know who that is?"

Tanjiro smiled warmly at the man "That would be me. You came to buy some coal? I'm sorry, but I ran out of it." He said rubbing the back of his head.

The man narrowed his eyes "Don't worry. I came here for you." Before Tanjiro could ask, the man hand penetrated Tanjiro's chest making Tanjiro spit blood "I am interested in you, Tanjiro. If you survive this, come and find me. I have an interesting proposition for you."

Tanjiro fell to the floor as Nezuko ran to his side. She was screaming as Tanjiro's consciousness was fading.

*Present*

Tanjiro looked at his side, seeing his sibling's dead bodies. He crawled towards Nezuko corpse and hugged her "Nezuko... please... wake up..." He sobbed into her shoulder and hugged the body tightly.

A figure entered through the open door and Tanjiro's head snapped to glare at the man. He had medium length, spikey black hair, blue sharp eyes. "W-What do you want! Are you with that other guy!?"

Giyu Tomioka, Pillar of Water, had seen a lot of things in his demon slayer career. But a demon that talks, is something that you don't see all the time.

The silence seemed to put the demon on edge "I-I am warning you! Get away from my family! Or-Or you'll regret!"

"You're a demon." Giyu stated in a deadpan voice making the demon eyes widen.

"W-What? A demon?" The demon asked in disbelief and Giyu nodded.

"Yes. A man-eating creature. You probably did this." He isn't sure why he is talking with the demon as tears came into his eyes.

"No... I didn't! It was... another man! I swear! He came here... and-and..."

Now Giyu was lost. This demon... wasn't acting like a demon. And seeing the neck of the girl, it was untouched. Giyu kept his hand on his blade as he nodded slowly.

He watched and helped the demon bury his family, and every passing minute, the grip on his sword got looser. Once they were done, the demon looked at him with a pleading look "Please..."

"Tell me who did this..."

Giyu didn't know for sure who did this, but he knows there is only one thing capable of turning humans into demons...

"Kibitsuji Muzan."

"Kibitsuji Muzan..." Tanjiro repeated as they heard a sound close to them. They turned to Nezuko's body that started to shift "N-Nezuko?"

Nezuko stood up, veins popping out of her forehead, silted pupils and fangs. She growled and launched herself at Giyu ready to bite him. Giyu got ready to cut her when Tanjiro tackled her to the ground.

Nezuko tried to break free and bite Tanjiro that had a horrified look on his face seeing how his sister was acting like some wild animal. "Nezuko! What's wrong with you!?" Tanjiro exclaimed "Don't you remember me!? I'm your brother!"

"She also became a demon. But why she is like the rest?" Giyu asked as Nezuko stopped struggling and tears came to her eyes. Tanjiro smiled softly.

"Nezuko..."

This two are really weird demons.

Oyakata-sama,

I hope this letter finds you in good health. I wanted to inform that I found two demons, siblings, that seems to be different. One of them, Tanjiro, acts like a human, even though he is a demon. He is capable of speaking, thinking and control his urges to consume human flesh. While the sister, Nezuko, acted more demon-like first, she managed to calm down and now she is sleeping. I gave her a bamboo gag to make sure she doesn't lose control. I wanted to know if I can take them to your state for you to see what to do with them.

Tomioka Giyu, Water Pilar.

Giyu,

What you are telling me is really interesting news. In the thousand year that the corps had been active, there hasn't been one case of a demon with human qualities. And you saying that there are two of them. They are welcome to come to my state under your protection. I'll make sure the other pillars are not here with us to avoid any complications. Thank you for informing me of this.

Kagaya Ubuyashiki, 97th Leader of the Demon Slayer Corps.
