Chapter 27

Hiccup and Toothless have been flying for a little over an hour trying to find an island with some type of infirmary or medical center so they can get Toothless looked at.

Since they don't want to be seen easily by Krogen, Astrid or anyone else they chose to stay high enough so that they're just grazing the clouds but low enough that they can see the islands well enough.

They chose to not talk much about what happened in the prison with Hiccup going berserk and killing others, they both figured it would be best to leave it for when they can be just a little more private.

In the midst of their flying, Hiccup spots a black, silver plated dragon with a silver haired human female fly next to him saying, "You wouldn't happen to be named Hiccup Haddock would you?"

Hiccup was pretty quick to recognize the voice. "Heather? Windshear? Is that you?"

The Razorwhip nods. "It is. I'm actually a little surprised you knew who I am."

Hiccup replies, "I was thinking the same thing. How did you know it was me?"

Windshear raises a brow. "In a situation where humans become dragons, who would mostly likely become a Night Fury?"

Hiccup shrugs. "Fair enough."

Windshear then notices the beat up human on Hiccup's back. "Oh my. Toothless? Is that you?"

Toothless gives a slight wave. "Hey, Windshear. Heather. Long time no see."

Heather asks, "Geez, what happened to him?"

Hiccup replies, "He was captured recently and was tortured to try to get him to talk about where I had gone and where we were when they found us."

Heather nods. "I see. I'd say he needs medical attention right away. Come with me, the island I live with shouldn't be too far away."

Hiccup nods. "Thanks, Heather." They land at the village and Heather immediately takes Toothless to the island's healer who quickly went to work on looking at Toothless's wounds.

Hiccup lied outside the infirmary, waiting for the silver haired human healer to come out and tell him any kind of news, worried as hell as to whether or not Toothless was going to be ok. After about 20 minutes of waiting, the healer comes out and says to Hiccup, "Well, we're lucky we got your friend here when we did. There seems to be some internal bleeding combined with several scars, scratches and bruises. Now, all that is manageable at this point but we will keep you posted if anything comes up."

Hiccup nods. "Thank you. I'm putting my faith in your hands." The healer nods before going back to work.

Heather and Windshear then walk over and sit down next to Hiccup where Heather says, "Toothless will be fine. Ironslicer is the best healer around. I've seen him perform many miracles in the past."

Hiccup nods. "I just hope you're right."

Heather then asks, "So, you mind telling me what's been going on?"

Hiccup realized that no one's seen Heather since that day he and the riders first met her and helped save her parents form Alvin, so she probably has no idea what's been going on. He sighs and says, "Ok, here's what's going on…"

Hiccup proceeds to explain everything to Heather. The transformations which Heather already knew about, him and Toothless falling for each other, Dagur destroying the Union Temple but then he turned around and Astrid going berserk and almost killing Toothless twice. He left out the part about him finding Valka, as he didn't want anyone to trace him to the sanctuary, and the part about him going berserk and killing others.

Once Hiccup was finished, Heather says, "Wow. So Astrid is out to kill you and now she has Krogen to help her. I can't even imagine being in a situation like that."

Hiccup nods. "It's the main reason why we've been staying well away from Berk. We just don't want to cause any more trouble."

Windshear adds, "Well, Heather and I are here for you two if you need someone to talk to."

Hiccup nods. "So, what about you, Heather? What have you been up to?"

Heather replies, "Well, after you guys saved my parents we came back here, which is where we've been staying, but then, about a year later, my parents ended up catching some disease that they must've caught at Outcast Island and they both ended up dying."

Hiccup nods. "I'm sorry to hear that."

Heather sighs, "It's ok. Anyway, by then I was fully mature so I got their house to myself. Then, a month later I met Windshear who was a Razorwhip at the time and, thanks to the training tips you guys gave me, we ended up becoming really close friends."

Windshear adds, "I'm actually the first dragon to be trained around here and it feels pretty good. I get fed regularly and in exchange I was in charge of protecting the village in the event of a threat."

Heather then says, "Then when the transformations happened we were shocked at first but quickly learned to adapt to our new bodies and now it's pretty much like normal."

Just then, Ironslicer comes back out, wipes the sweat off of his forehead and says, "Well, it was a close call but it looks like your friend will be alright. He will need time to recover but after that he should be good as new. You can see him if you'd like."

Hiccup takes a deep breath before standing and walking inside to see Toothless lying on the bed, almost covered head to toe in bandages. Toothless looks to Hiccup and croaks, "Hey Hiccup."

Hiccup places a paw on Toothless's chest and says, "Hey, Toothless. How ya holding up?"

Toothless coughs a few times before saying, "Well, I didn't have to lose another limb so that's a plus."

Hiccup smiles wide as tears start to form in his eyes. He carefully wraps his wing around Toothless and holds him tight. He says through sobs. "I'm…sorry. We should've never left."

Toothless rubs Hiccup's face and says, "No. You have nothing to be sorry for. Neither of us could've expected this to happen. As long as you're here, then there's no battle we can't win." He then lies back and closes his eyes.

Hiccup presses on Toothless's chest lightly. "Toothless?"

Ironslicer explains, "It's alright. Right now he just needs some rest."

Hiccup nods. "Ok. Then I will do the same." He lies down on the floor next to the bed, refusing to leave for anything.

Ironslicer pats Hiccup on the head. "You're a good friend, and a good mate."

Hiccup's eyes widen. "How did you…?"

Ironslicer chuckles. "I overheard you talking. We at Clang are pretty supportive people."

Hiccup asks, "Even if it's a gay, interspecies relationship?"

Ironslicer chuckles again, "Even so. Well, I will leave you two alone." With that he walks out and Hiccup lies his head down to rest next to Toothless.

Meanwhile, back on Berk, Stoick and the rest of the gang had returned after not finding any sign of Hiccup or Toothless within in two days. He had caught their scent at Itchy Armpit Isle but it had seemed to fade by that point.

As soon as he got back, he flies up to Gothi's hut where he sees that Stormfly had awoken after being beaten up by Astrid. Stoick walks up to Stormfly and asks, "Stormfly, how are you?"

The blue haired girl replies, "I've been better."

Gothi then writes something in the dirt. "She woke up about half an hour ago. She was waiting for you to get back. We managed to patch up her stab wound where Astrid's spike went in. It looks like she will be fine."

Stoick nods before looking to Stormfly and asking, "Now, Stormfly, do you remember what happened?"

Stormfly sighs. "Unfortunately I do. I had gotten home from the market that day when I heard someone in my house. I open the door and see Astrid rummaging through my stuff. I tried to hold her off but she ended up overpowering me, shooting a spine into my arm and knocking me out. Last thing I remember was her finding the piece of hair Toothless gave me and then I blacked out."

Stoick sighs. "I figured as much."

Stormfly then asks, "Any news from Hiccup?"

Stoick replies "Well, I did get a message saying that he wanted to come find him and that's actually why I went over to your house. That's when I found you on the floor unconscious and your house was trashed. I tried looking for him and got a scent but it didn't get me as far as I wanted. *sigh* I suppose that, despite me being a Rubmlehorn, my old nose just isn't as good at tracking as I thought it would be."

Stormfly pats Stoick on the head. "It's alright. We will find them. I promise."

Stoick sighs and says, "I just hope that we find them before anyone else. I'd hate to see Hiccup or Toothless getting hurt. Well, it looks like you're feeling better, you want me to take you home?"

Stormfly nods. "That sounds great right now. Thanks again, Gothi." Gothi nods as Stormfly climbs onto Stoick's back and they fly down to Stormfly's house. While Stoick was gone, he had a few people clean up Stormfly's house so it will look nice when she returns. They get to the house and Stormfly immediately grabs some food as being in a coma for a few days can leave you pretty hungry. The rest of the gang stopped by to see that Stormfly was ok as well.

Meanwhile, back at the sanctuary, Valka was worried sick that Hiccup and Toothless didn't come back last night, nor that entire next day.

She was beginning to worry that maybe Hiccup wasn't actually going to look for Stoick and that maybe he just used that as an excuse to leave her the way she left him all those years ago.

No, that couldn't have been it. She might not have known Hiccup as well as Stoick but she did see a look in his eyes that told her he was being very truthful when he said it.

After an hour of her pacing, Cloudjumper walks up to her and says, "Val, it's been a day and a half. I think something happened to him."

Valka sighs. "I was beginning to think the same thing. Oh, I want to go out and look for him but I don't know if I can leave the sanctuary all on its own. I mean, what if the person or people who took Hiccup comes here and I'm not here to stop anything?"

Cloudjumper pats her on the upper wing and says, "I will stay here, Val. I might not be a dragon but I know what it takes to help this sanctuary in a time of need."

Valka nods before nuzzling Cloudjumper. "Alright, send a message if there is trouble." With that, Valka flies off towards the direction that she saw Hiccup going in last time she saw him, hoping that she finds something.
