Elisa called her parents the next morning and gave them the news. Aside from Goliath, and through him, the clan, Skyler was the only one to know that the baby was a female until Elisa contacted her parents.

Her siblings had called almost as soon as she had gotten off the phone.

From there, news spread so fast that everyone seemed to know.

The next night, as she entered the precinct for yet another fun filled night of paper chasing, Elisa was greeted at work by well wishes and congratulations. Travis and Matt had taken her out for an insanely large cup of hot chocolate and a pair of hot dogs with everything from her favorite place, even if the combination of the two things made the guys look a little green.

Pamela, Matt's wife, came bearing bags of small, frilly, and completely adorable baby girl clothing left from their own daughter, as well as toys and other items that they no longer needed.

"Pam…," Elisa looked at her thoughtfully, doing some mental math. "Emilie is only, what… about four years younger than Liam," Elisa pointed out. "Liam just turned eight. So you're telling me that you've been holding on to all of this for four years?"

Pamela shrugged. "Baby stuff is expensive, and in the end, they grow so fast that the clothes are still in really good shape. I was hoping that one of my sisters would give Emilie a female cousin that I could pass these things to, so I held on to everything. Somehow, they've managed to only have boys, so you benefit from my minor hoarding addiction."

Elisa laughed and gave Pamela a hug. "Thank you," She said.

"Matt told me about your little girl's special requirements," Pamela whispered softly. "So I altered all that I could so that there's only Velcro in the back to give room for the wings."

Oh.

That did it.

Elisa hiccupped a sob at the sheer thoughtfulness.

"Damn hormones," Elisa swore, swiping at the traitorous tears as they left wet tracks down her cheek.

Pamela laughed. "You'll go back to normal…Eventually," She said, passing Elisa a tissue from the nearest desk.

"That's a relief," Elisa said with a watery laugh. "Seriously. I have almost forgotten what it was like to not watch television and not burst out crying because of a Hallmark commercial."

Pamela nodded, straight faced. "If you haven't already, you should try watching that Titanic movie. With your hormones like this, it would blow your mind." Then, the evil woman reared back and began laughing.

Elisa rolled her eyes at Pamela. "I honestly didn't know that you had such a nasty streak in you."

Pamela shrugged. "It's a gift."

Elisa laughed then, said her goodbyes, and then looked at the four large bags at her feet…

Or, where she was assuming her feet were. She hadn't actually seen her feet in a week or two without having to bend forward to peer around her expanding belly..

Jeeze! She was only half way through, and already couldn't see her feet! How big was this kid going to be?

She began bending for the bag handles, when she was instantly surrounded by other officers, both male and female, and all insisting that they would take the items to her car for her.

Elisa, somewhat in shock, watched as they took the bags out to the parking area. Elisa was forced to hurry after them with her keys to unlock the trunk.

It took some maneuvering, but they managed to get all of the bags stuffed into her trunk with only inches to spare. Once that was completed, the officers offered their congratulations and scattered.

Elisa was suspicious. Not that officers in the precinct hadn't offered to help her with things before, and vice versa, but there was usually a healthy dose of banter and ribbing to go with it. There hadn't even been a jab at her being 'weak' or a comment about her ballooning belly.

Nothing.

Elisa was still frowning when she entered the station again. What did they know that she didn't?

"Maza," Captain Chavez called out, and motioned for Elisa to join her in her office.

Elisa had the bad feeling that she knew what was coming. It wasn't unexpected, and she'd been warned, hadn't she?

Still…

"What's up, Captain?" Elisa asked as she walked past Maria in the doorway and entered the office.

Maria closed the door firmly, moving to lean against the corner of her desk.

"I heard it's a girl," She said unexpectedly.

Elisa couldn't help the small smile that came to her face.

Maria sighed. "It's time to take you off the streets, and behind a desk, Maza. Honestly, I should have done that a while ago."

"I'm not on the streets now," Elisa pointed out. "As soon as I started to show at all, the boys relegated me to the desk work."

"Be that as it may," Maria said firmly, "I'm reassigning you for the time being. You're going to be working dispatch with Jackie."

Elisa tried to keep her face blank.

Evidently, she wasn't successful.

"Elisa," Maria said, "I told you that this was going to happen, and it's more than your health that I'm looking out for."

"I know," Elisa sighed. "But…"

"You hate it," Maria finished. "I understand that."

"Yeah," Elisa said. Then she had an idea, "What if I stick to my desk. Nothing out of the station. I can keep doing the paperwork, phone calls and long distance stuff to free the boys up so that they can be on the streets?"

Maria raised an eyebrow at her. "Do you really think that there is enough there to warrant keeping you at your desk and not on dispatch?"

Elisa nodded. "We're still trying to track down the owner of the building that was burned down, and back tracing all of the previous tenants to see if it really was a Humans First meeting place."

"Alright," Maria said with a sigh. "For as long as you can justify working on your own like that in this case, you can continue from your desk for the time being."

"Thank you," Elisa said, truly grateful to still be able to serve a purpose on the cases that she was so invested in.
