Chapter 29

In the passing days since the heart to heart talk between Hiccup and Toothless, Toothless was starting to look and feel much better. Most of his scars and bruises have either faded or gone to half their original size and even the emotional scar he took on from Krogen was slowly healing.

Of course throughout all of this, Hiccup has stayed by his side and couldn't be happier with the progress he had made. For a brief moment, it just seemed like everything was starting to become right again, that is until one day, about a week and a half after the boys had arrived to Clang, the doctor, Ironslicer, walks into Toothless's infirmary room and says, "Hello boys, just stopping by to check on his vitals."

He does a quick feel around Toothless's chest and scars before saying, "Well, things seem to be normal. I have to say that I'm thrilled that you're doing better now, Toothless, when you arrived here I was certain you'd be dead by morning otherwise."

Toothless nods. "Thank you, doc. For everything."

Ironslicer nods before saying, "Oh, I don't think I said it earlier but congratulations. You two must be excited."

Hiccup gets a quizzical look. "Excited about what?"

Ironslicer's smile fades. "Oh, you two don't even know yet."

Toothless asks, "What's going on?"

Ironslicer adjusts his coat a bit before saying, "Well, when you boys got here I ran some tests on you, Hiccup, to make sure that you're ok too and as you know one of those tests was a urine test."

Hiccup nods. "Yeah."

Ironslicer adds, "Well, while the test didn't show any sign of any dangerous diseases, there was one thing in there that I found to be truly astounding. I, uh, don't know how else to put it so I'm just going to come out and say it. Hiccup…you're pregnant."

Both Hiccup and Toothless's jaws nearly hit the floors upon hearing that. They both say simultaneously, "What?"

Ironslicer nods. "It's true. I can't say for sure but I'd say you're about two weeks into it. If you want proof then here's the results of the test." He takes a piece of paper off of his desk and shows it to Hiccup, showing that he was, indeed, positive for pregnancy.

Hiccup blinks before saying, "Oh my gods. Wait, but how is this possible."

Ironslicer pulls up a chair and explains "Well, I've seen this before and it's actually quite fascinating. Toothless, before the transformation you were a male dragon, but somehow when the transformation happened your dragon sperm stayed inside you only it had to become smaller in order to accommodate, and as for you Hiccup, your dragon ovaries got filled with dragon eggs so, I presume you two have mated, when that happened, Toothless's dragon sperm got mixed with Hiccup's dragon eggs and, well, biology happened."

Hiccup and Toothless look to each other before Toothless says, "Whoa. Wait, Hiccup and I have mated before this but he would…penetrate my vagina. How come I didn't get pregnant from that?"

Ironslicer explains, "Well, that's where things get interesting, when Hiccup transformed the internal heat from his dragon body actually ended up killing off any human sperm he had in him so his testicles began producing dragon sperm and since dragon sperm and human eggs cannot possibly mix, there is no chance of you getting pregnant at all, Toothless."

There were no further words to be said for either Hiccup or Toothless, just a simple, "Wow."

Ironslicer nods. "Yes. Now then, I'm sure you two would like to be alone right about now to discuss this. I will leave you two it." With that, he stands and leaves, leaving Hiccup and Toothless by themselves.

As soon as Ironslicer left, Hiccup nearly flops to the floor before saying, "Well…that's just great. On top of everything else that's going on and now there's a baby in the mix. I…I don't know what to do."

Toothless nods, "Man, that really does suck. Well, maybe it won't be so bad. Maybe by the time this thing is born all of this will be over."

Hiccup sighs. "Maybe but what about now? What if Astrid or Krogen find us and we can't do anything to protect it?"

Toothless gets off of the bed and kneels down best as he can in front of Hiccup. "Look, if anything this baby is a blessing. A little bundle of joy that we can look forward to in the midst of all this craziness going on. And I think that, when the time comes, we will be ready for it."

Hiccup sighs again. "I'd love to hope for that too. Just wish my dad was here right now. He'd know what to do in a situation like this. I can practically hear his voice."

"Hiccup!" His mind caught the sound of the voice, although it seemed a little more real.

"Yeah, just like that, I just heard him say my name."

Toothless replies, "Uh, I heard it too actually."

Hiccup raises a brow. "Really?"

"Hiccup!" This time the voice was louder, making Hiccup look out the door to the infirmary and see the red Rumblehorn that's his father approaching the island.

"Dad?" Hiccup asks.

Stoick spots Hiccup and lands right in front of the infirmary, running up to hug him and Toothless. "Son! Toothless! I'm so happy to see you're both alive!"

Hiccup smiles. "Yeah, it's great to see you too."

Toothless asks, "How did you find us?"

Stoick stops hugging to say, "Well, I actually had some help from an old friend."

Just then, a brown Stormcutter lands and smiles upon seeing Hiccup. "Hello, Hiccup."

Hiccup's eyes widen even more. "Mom? Wait, you two came to find me?"

Stoick nods. "Yes, we did. You see, I did need to come find you because Astrid had stolen the piece of hair Toothless gave to Stormfly and Stormfly was knocked out. Me and the other riders tried to find you, but didn't have much luck. Then, out of total surprise, your mother came to me and told me she was looking for you. At first I couldn't believe that it was actually her, but that voice and her scent were unmistakable."

Valka adds as she enters the infirmary. "Stoick and I then went on a full on search for you, looking through every corner of the archipelago and beyond, only stopping to rest and eat. It seemed futile at one point but then we got a glimpse of hope, we came across Union Island and found that you left some shedded scales there which was all Stoick needed to find you and now we're here."

Stoick then looks down to Toothless and says, "Toothless, you're not looking so hot. What happened to you?"

Hiccup and Toothless exchange glances before Hiccup says, "We'll tell you about it later. It's kind of a sensitive subject." Toothless nods in confirmation.

Stoick nods. "Alright, well it's good to see you two again. Now, we need to get you two back to Berk so-"

"No." Hiccup interjects. "Right now we need to figure out a way to stop Mom's sanctuary from being destroyed."

Valka's eyes widen. "Wait, there's going to be an attack on the sanctuary? By who?"

Hiccup looks to Toothless who gives him a nod of approval and Hiccup says, "Astrid. Who has teamed up with Krogen, someone who we fought years ago when he wanted to find the old Alpha. We believe they're going to go to the sanctuary, kidnap or kill the king, and then possibly destroy the sanctuary. We need to get there as soon as we can to form a plan."

Stoick nods. "From what your mother told me that sanctuary is a very sacred place so I do agree. I will head back to Berk to gather up some others, both people and dragons, that can help us fight."

Valka hugs Stoick. "That sounds perfect. My companion, Cloudjumper, is good but he will definitely love some help. Hiccup and I will head back to the sanctuary since he's still on the run. Here." She tosses a map to Stoick. "This will show you where to go."

Stoick nods. "Alright then. We shall head out immediately."

Hiccup then speaks up, "Wait, before we go there is something you should know. It's a little hard to hear."

Stoick comments, "Harder than finding out my son is in love with a male that used to be his dragon?"

Hiccup says with an almost deadpan look. "Even more. Mom…Dad…I'm pregnant."

Both Stoick and Valka's faces went from understandable shock to looks of thought to joy before they hug Hiccup and Toothless tight. Stoick says, "That's wonderful. Even more wonderful than hearing that you two wanted to become official mates." He looks to Toothless and asks, "I presume you're responsible for this."

Toothless chuckles a bit. "Guilty as charged."

Valka adds, "So I'm going to be a grandmother. Oh, this is the best news I've ever heard. I know it's not normal in any sense of the word but, well, being normal is overrated anyway."

Hiccup comments, "Trust me, Mom, I figured that fact out a long time ago."

Toothless adds, "I've known that my whole life."

Everyone in the room laughed a bit at that before Stoick says, "Well, we'll have to talk more about it later. For now, I need to get back to Berk and you three need to head to the sanctuary."

The Haddock family was about to head out when Heather stops them. "Hang on, guys, Windshear and I want to help too."

Windshear adds, "We've heard of your sanctuary, Valka, and we know it's a special place that needs to be protected."

Hiccup nods. "You guys are welcome to come. The more soldiers we can get for this war, the better."

Stoick adds, "You two better come with me, you can help me recruit Berkians."

Heather nods. "Thank you, sir." With that, Windshear climbs onto Heather, Toothless onto Hiccup and they all head out in the directions of their respective destinations, three of which determined to get there before it's too late.

(Meanwhile at Hunter's Island)

Krogen stood on top of the docks leading out of the island. In front of him, a massive ring of bubbles and small waves could be seen where Krogen says, "We are almost ready, sir. With all of our men and the girl we should be able to take the Ice Sanctuary for our own in no time."

An audible grumble could be heard from in the water making Krogen nod. "Yes, we will make sure the boy does not get away this time. We have…plans for that."
