Chapter 30

With the thought of defending Valka's sanctuary from Krogen's army in their minds, Stoick heads back to Berk to gather up as many troops as he can and Valka has them all follow her back to the sanctuary.

Meanwhile, Hiccup and Heather go ahead to the sanctuary so they can make sure nothing happened while they were gone. The king ensured them that nothing happened, so they waited for Stoick and Valka to get back.

Hiccup taps his paw on the ground and says, "Come on, Dad. Where are you?"

Heather replies, "Getting almost all of Berk to come here isn't an easy feat. I'm sure your dad will come through."

It was moments later that a roar was heard nearby, making Hiccup look outside and see Stoick coming in with Stormfly on his back, plus just about every other person and dragon that's of age including Fishlegs, Snotlout, the twins, their humans, Gothi, Gobber, and everyone else you can think of. Hiccup smiles wide as he waves Stoick in.

Once inside, Berk's people begin setting up catapults and putting on armor while Toothless pulls up a map of the sanctuary that he drew up and began explaining to Hiccup, Valka, The king, Cloudjumper, Stoick and Stormfly. "Ok, here's the plan. Valka, my king, you two know the ins and outs of this place better than all of us, so you'll know the best hiding spots for our surprise attack. We already have Terrible Terror sentries looking out at every corner surrounding this place, so we will wait for their signal.

We're going to have dragon troops guarding every possible entrance and exit to the sanctuary, plus a team of offensive dragons lead by myself and Stoick that will take care of most of the army. If any of you spot Krogen or Astrid, do not engage them. Leave them to me, Stoick, Valka and Cloudjumper. Now, Valka, is there a place that the king can hide?"

Valka nods. "Yes, I know of the perfect place."

Toothless nods back. "Perfect. The king is one of our most prized possession here, if he gets captured or worse, then do not hold back to try to get him back. Now, are there any questions or concerns?"

Stoick comments, "This looks like a perfect plan, Toothless. You don't know how proud I am that you're doing this."

Toothless smiles. "I learned all of this watching you."

Hiccup then asks, "Hey, uh, I got a quick question. Where am I going to be while all of this is going on?"

Toothless nods. "Ah, yes, I'm glad you asked that. You will be…staying with the king and making sure he's safe."

Hiccup's eyes widen. "What? You mean I'm not even going to fight? W-what's the deal, babe? You know I'm a Night Fury right? I could be all that much helpful in this battle."

Toothless sighs. "Trust me, Hiccup, if the situation was any different you'd be coming with me to lead, but the fact is, well, you've got a lot more to lose than some of us." He gestures to Hiccup's stomach.

Hiccup looks down and his eyes widen before looking back up. "Oh…right. Forgot about that."

Toothless puts his hand on Hiccup's shoulder. "I love you. I always will. and if anything were to happen to you or our child…well…I don't even want to imagine what would happen."

Hiccup knew exactly where Toothless was coming from, and he knew that if he was in the same situation he'd ask Toothless to do the same thing. He kisses Toothless on the cheek and says, "Ok. I'll hide."

Suddenly, a call was heard from one of the Terrible Terror sentries, telling Toothless, "They're close. Alright, people, let's get into position! This is not a drill!"

As ordered, some of Berk's soldiers stood around the corner of every entrance to the sanctuary they could find while Toothless, Valka, Cloudjumper and Stoick stood with everyone else just outside the sanctuary, all geared up and ready for battle. Hiccup and the king, with Valka's directions, found their hiding spot and sat there.

As they waited for Krogen's army to arrive, some of them just couldn't get over their nerves. Meatlug for example was shaking in her boots with nerves. "Oh, I hope this goes well."

Hookfang replies, "We've taken out plenty of fierce enemies before, there's no way we won't be able to win."

Toothless replies to that, "I appreciate the optimism, Hookie, but we're gonna need more than that if we want to win."

Tuffnut then perks his head up. "Hey, did you guys hear that?"

Belch rolls his eyes. "Really, Tuff? Again? You know this is what happens when you eat clams."

Heather shakes her head, "No, wait, I think I heard something too but in my head. Almost like…a voice of something…massive."

Toothless then yells, "There they are!" Sure enough, all eyes look out as they see Krogen, Astrid, and an army of about 30 Singetails approach. Toothless commands, "Fire off a warning shot!" As commanded, all dragons in the front line fire off blasts right at the Singetails.

All of the dragons move out of the way as Krogen says, "So, Hiccup's gathered up an army of his own too. Suppose I should've expected this. Alright, boys, this is what we've been waiting for. Now, go get that king!"

The Singetails roar as they begin firing off blasts from their mouths and tails.

"Charge!" Toothless commands as the dragons on the front line take off while the catapult launchers begin firing off boulders. Within seconds, the whole sky near the sanctuary heated up with the fires of Nadders, Gronckles, Nightmares, Zipplebacks and Singetails.

A few of the Singetails almost got close to the sanctuary, but they were stopped by Ruffnut's gas breath, ignited by Tuffnut's sparks that made them disperse. "Take that, you fire butt bastards!" Barf yells as the Singetails fly away.

Any of the Singetails that happened to stay low to the ocean were also stopped by Snotlout and a group of Monstrous Nightmares that flamed themselves up and flew right in their way.

Astrid, who was riding Spitelout, got Spitelout and a few other Nadders to line the landing area of the sanctuary with sharp spines, but that was blasted away by the Singetail's tail blast. However, those same Singetails were blasted away by some of the entrance guards.

From inside the sanctuary, Hiccup and the king sat there as they heard many explosions and bursts that made the ground shake a bit on a few occasions.

Soaring above the battle was Krogen and Astrid, the later riding the first due to her torn wings, who were keeping a close eye out for two things. "That king must be hidden somewhere in the fortress." Krogen comments.

Astrid adds, "And I'm not seeing any sign of Hiccup. A little surprising, I'd think a Night Fury would be perfect for a situation like this."

Krogen nods. "Yes, I would agree. No matter, we do have a way to make him come out. Whenever you're ready."

Just then, below Krogen a big field of bubbles the size of a house emerges. Hiccup's ears perk up as he hears a voice. The king asks, "What's wrong?"

Hiccup looks around. "Something else is here. Something horrible."

Just then, the whole ocean shakes a bit as a massive, white dragon with one single tusk the size of Berk's mountain and covered in several white spikes. All eyes stare in shock and awe over the massive dragon as it smirks and says in a deep voice, "So, this is what Berk's army consists of. A bunch of pansy dragons and even pansier humans."

Stoick's eyes widen as he recognizes the voice. "No way. Can it really be…him?"

Krogen lands on the Bewilderbeasts's head and says, "They're all yours…Drago."

Drago comments, "Well, all of this fighting is certainly unnecessary. Why don't we put it to a halt?" Drago lets out a light roar that causes all of Berk's dragons to stop what they're doing and land with their heads shaking.

Toothless gets off of Stoick and pats him on the head. "Stoick, what's wrong?"

"I…I don't know…I feel like I'm being…" And before Stoick could finish, his eyes open wide to reveal that his pupils had gone to paper thin slits. He stares down Toothless with a deathly glare.

"S-Stoick?"

Around the area, other dragons followed in this same scenario. Snotlout lands with a crash and throws Hookfang off. Hookfang gets up and protests, "Hey, what's the big deal, you big lug?"

Snotlout couldn't respond as his mind was being taken over by Drago as well.

The twins followed in a similar fashion, but ended up throwing Barf and Belch against the walls of the sanctuary, only inches away from causing serious damage. Fishlegs spirals to the ground and Meatlug quickly gets off to make sure he's ok. Spitelout lands fine, but Stormfly had to quickly get off as to not get thrown off herself.

Hiccup could tell from inside the sanctuary that things were not good so, despite Toothless's orders, he says to the king, "Don't move." before rushing to the nearest exit. He pokes his head out and sees the massive dragon standing there and all of Berk's dragons acting crazy. "What the hell is going on?"

Drago then looks up and manages to catch Hiccup standing there making him smirk wider. "You there, Night Fury, you mind joining the party?"

Toothless heard this and looked over to see Hiccup there. "Hiccup!"

He runs towards Hiccup, but Krogen sees this and points out to Drago, "That's him. The boy's mate."

Drago looks down. "That human? I'll admit he's not quite the shrimp I'd hope he'd be but there's still no way he's getting to the boy." Drago makes a motion and suddenly Stoick, Fishlegs, Snotlout and the twins drop down in front of Toothless, all with the same slit eyes.

Toothless asks, "Guys, what's gotten into you? I'm your friend, remember?"

Meatlug says, "Oh dear, this is worse than I thought. Bewilderbeasts have the ability to control the minds of dragons. Toothless is in deep trouble if no one does anything."

Hiccup makes a quick move to dive in and sweep Toothless off of his feet. Toothless orients himself on Hiccup's back and says, "I thought I said stay hidden."

Hiccup replies, "If I was known for following orders, we'd never meet."

Astrid gets her wicked smile back. "Oh, my Hiccup has come to help his pathetic husband instead of the girl he ogled over for years. How thoughtful."

Drago smirks. "Wow. I knew that Night Furies were fast but that's just something else. Too bad he won't be of much help for long." Drago roars again, making Hiccup fall out of the sky and crash onto the ground with his paws covering his head.

Toothless says in near panic, "Oh no, not you too. Come on, Hiccup, you have to fight this!"

But by that point, it was too late. Hiccup opens up his eyes revealing that they had gone to slits as well. With Drago's orders, Hiccup throws Toothless off of him and stares him down. Toothless quickly stands to face him.

Stormfly notices and quickly runs over to Toothless, hoping she catches him before it's too late.

"Hiccup, come on. Snap out of it, Hiccup! It's me! Your mate!" Just then, there was a flash in the sky as Hiccup and Toothless's mating symbol appears. Toothless's eyes widen, "Our seal. NO!"

Hiccup fires up a plasma blast and Toothless couldn't find any sort of shield or covering fast enough, so he closes his eyes and waits. He heard the sound of the blast that Hiccup fired…but felt nothing. Toothless knows that plasma blasts don't take long to reach their target so maybe Hiccup was able to snap out of it just in time.

However, that thought was muffled by the sound of a girl screaming in agony. Toothless peeks his eyes open and sees Hiccup standing there, panting, with smoke coming out of his mouth. He looks down to see that he is unscathed but wondered who that scream came from.

Toothless looks over and, to his horror, saw a blue haired girl lying on the ground next to him. "Stormfly?" Toothless asks as he kneels down in front of her. He rolls Stormfly over and sees that she had a completely lifeless look in her eyes. "STORMFLY?" He asks again.

Meatlug comes over and touches Stormfly's wrist to check for a pulse. She looks up and shakes her head. Toothless looks up again and sees the symbol split in half and fade away. Toothless also looks down at the symbol on his chest and sees it fade as well, ending the mating bond that he and Hiccup had made.

Toothless's eyes twitch as tears begin to form. "No….no…NO!"

In the midst of this happening, Krogen had already sent some scouts inside the sanctuary where they inject the king with a sleeping potion and take him away, causing all of the humans inside to look and see their king being kidnapped.

One of the Singetail guards carries the king over to Drago and Krogen, making Krogen smile. "So this is the so called former king of dragons. Real pity, wouldn't you say?"

Drago nods. "He'll be useful as we claim this world as our own. I suppose I should let those lovebirds say goodbye to each other."

Drago grunts as he takes Hiccup's mind control off of him. Seeing Toothless crying with a lifeless Stormfly lying on the ground was all he needed to know. He carefully walks up to Toothless and says, "T-Toothless."

Toothless glares at Hiccup, "GO AWAY!" That made Hiccup jump back a little. "HAVEN'T YOU DONE ENOUGH ALREADY?"

Tears started forming in Hiccup's eyes as well. "Toothless I-"Hiccup was interrupted by Drago's control coming back to him.

Drago says to Hiccup, "Time for you to come with me. If it makes you feel better, I can hook you up with your former girlfriend." Hiccup couldn't do much but mindlessly fly up to the top of Drago's head where Astrid immediately hugs him.

"All is now right with the world. You are all mine now, Hiccup, and there's nothing you can do to stop it." Astrid says as Drago turns around and makes all of the dragons in and around the sanctuary fly up to come with him, leaving all of the humans alone.

The tears began flowing like a faucet as Toothless saw Hiccup leave. Toothless collapses onto his knees as Windshear leans in to say, "I'm so sorry, Toothless."

Toothless says through sobs and sniffs. "You don't get it. *sob* I lost my friend, *sniff* my village *sniff* my mate *sob* and even…quite possibly…my child. I…I've lost…everything." Right then, it was as if there was nothing in the world but Toothless and just a whole world of darkness.

Sad stuff, but I really do think that this chapter was a good one.
