Chapter 6: Through years
Here we are a new chapter, and the last I'll ever post of this story. You wonder why? Simple, it doesn't get enough reviews Etc to be worth it, and it doesn't excite me as it used to. If I do by chance get more interest and enthused, I'll do more and continue. And if someone wants to adopt it and write the rest of the story as a sequel, by all means, contact me and we can arrange it.
Enjoy the inprompt due end to this story, in a spot where it felt as though it could end.
"Where are we going again?" Noël asked Anabel via telepathy, glancing around quickly, still feeling nervous about being on the boat. They were on a rather crowded boat approaching Poni Island. They were up the front, as close as they could be to the shore, as neither girl was fond of the boat and sure it was overfull and likely to sink.
"Well, you know how Saniel wanted you to be trained so you could join us? I'm taking you to the Alolan Unova Training Base, which is here. You know the basics, we have taught you that much, so now we are bringing you here to refine your skills. You also need official training and qualifications, which you will get here," Anabel explained.
It had been a year since they found Noël, and slightly less than that since Anabel's run-in with Nihligo, but it was still fresh in both women's mind despite the time which had gone by. Despite the fact she hadn't been here long, Anabel felt as though Noël had been here forever.
Caitlin of the Elite Four in the Unova Region, had come just after the invasion of the Nihiligo to help Noël. She and her team of psychic pokémon helped Noël develop her telepathy and other psychic abilities. Now Noël used that rather than pen and paper to communicate, and it was all much quicker and easier for her, as a result.
It had been very hard to learn, but Noël supposed it would have been even harder if she could speak. She kind of wished she could work out how to talk again, she knew she had at some point. She had no idea why she didn't now.
Noël had asked Caitlin a question, it was just before Caitlin had told her there was nothing else to teach her. She had asked, "If everyone has psychic powers, how come people don't show signs of it? And can some of them learn it naturally?"
"Belief and strength: a lot of people don't believe they can do it, so they don't. Because you can't speak, you pick it up easier than most who have not shown signs before. If you have quite weak abilities, which you do, psychic powers won't be easy to learn how to use, nor will you show any signs," Caitlin explained. "If you were someone who was high psychic, you can do it naturally, but most need training so their powers don't go out of control."
Back to the present, though, and Noël's conversation with Anabel, and her hope they will arrive at the shore as soon as possible. Both women were in the same vote, and Anabel wished there was a bigger and steadier boat to take them to this island, and she wondered why there weren't any bigger boats.
"Right. Why do I need these renter Pokémon? Saniel shoved them into my hand when we left," Noël asked, thinking about the two pokéballs in her bag.
"You need Pokémon for the training, and your not old enough yet to legally own a pokémon," Anabel explained. "But anyone can own a renter pokémon or pokémon who belong to family."
"Right. I think I get it, now," Noël nodded. Then she said, "I am worried about Rosa: he, she, it has started acting very strange recently. I still find it hard to believe it's an Ultra Beast: it's so weak and so dependant on us."
Six months earlier, right after the event where Noël helped rescued Anabel. Rosalina had worked out Rosa had some connection to Lunala and Solgaleo, and as time went on, it would change and become stronger.
Rosalina still had no idea what Rosa's connection was to the legendary beasts, despite locating and reading every book on it. They also found out the necklace, the one the old lady at the Altar of Moone had given to Noël. It was the Attendant of the Moone's Amulet, that only the attendant could wear. There was an Attendant of the Sunne, too: they had the Amulet of the Sunne to go with it, and were in the other world.
"Yeah, right? And that is strange, but I guess we will see soon enough. I know! I will ask Rosalina if she has any more theories, and maybe I can convince her to come to the base and see you and Rosa. Maybe the odd behaviour is to do with Rosa getting stronger? I'd think monitoring Rosa's strength would be good for many things," Anabel suggested. "She could update the files on it, too, whenever we work out what it is."
"That's all we can hope. Good idea, too," Noël said through Anabel's mind, making Anabel flinch.
Anabel was used to Noël's new way of communicating now, but it was still odd to her, even though her Psychic Pokémon sometimes talked to her that way. Anabel herself had started to learn to use her psychic powers, which she had been unaware of having until Noël had started learning.
Anabel listened in on Noël and Caitlin's sessions, and practised in private. She was not brave enough to admit it or ask Caitlin to teach her. She suspected Caitlin knew and tried to get her to speak out, from some of the things she said, but Anabel was unable to speak out.
Five minutes later, they were told the boat was about to pull up at Seafolk Village, and to get ready to get off. In those five minutes, Noël was given a short history talk about the village from Anabel, though something about it was familiar somehow. Then Anabel explained they did not have that far to go after to get to the base, but the terrain would be tough.
As they poured out of the boat, Noël stopped and looked around. The Village was built over water, and there were houseboats all around them, docked right here. What connected them all was a giant wooden pier, that had been well crafted. There was a Pokémon Centre here, to show some sort of civilisation, which meant they also had a Cafe and Pokémart.
"It's very peaceful looking, isn't it?" Anabel said from beside Noël.
"Yes... it is..." Noël agreed. But she was not really with it, her mind was elsewhere. Something was familiar about this place, but she had no idea what. Then something flashed before her eyes! She was shorter, some of the boats were different, and it just looked different.
"Now, children! Look around and buy something if you wish! This market is once a year event! But we meet at the Pokémon centre in ten minutes!" A blue-haired woman called to a group of nine and eight-year-olds. Noël was in the same spot as she was now, but it looked different from how it looked now.
"Yes, Madam Max!" they all cried, then they ran off. Noël was with the madam, staring off into the distance. She was thinking of a present for her younger siblings, and she felt something weird.
"Aren't you going, young mistress?" Madam Max said, bending down to be at Noël's height.
"In a moment- don't call me that! I sound so stupid when you call me that!" Noël cried, glaring sourly.
"Alright," Madam Max said laughing.
"I have been here before!" Noël quickly told Anabel. Then she managed to show Anabel what she saw via telepathy, but it had been hard to see and not very clear for Anabel to view.
"Interesting. This might just be the lead we need! I will enquire about Madam Maxs' that have been in Alola in the last three years! And Saniel said we would have to give up!" Anabel cried excitedly.
"Well, not yet, anyway," Noël stated.
"True. Anyway, the base is this way! I will summon Mudsdale when we reach the edge of the town!" Anabel said leading off, feeling happy they had a lead on Noël's case. Noël nodded and quickly followed on behind her.
##########################################################
They walked until they reached the edge of the village, which wasn't far. Then Anabel used the PokéPager everyone owned. She used it to summon a Mudsdale for them to ride on. Noël reflected on how convenient it was, though she'd rather use her pokémon.
Even if Mudsdale was not overly speedy, it would take less time then walking, Anabel told her. After getting on Mudsdale, and making sure Noël was secure behind her, Anabel gave a soft kick and it went forward. It was a very smooth ride and relaxing.
While it was going, Anabel commented, "If we had walked, I don't think we will get there today. But with Mudsdale, we should arrive in the later part of today."
Then she patted Mudsdale as Noël nodded. Mudsdale went at a nice steady pace, meaning she could relax and enjoy the ride, without fear of falling. Noël reflected that she seemed to have a lot of fears.
As the sun started to go down that day, they reached an open plain: Poni Plain. They did not stop though; Mudsdale was steered to head for a path going into the rocky cliffs, just on the edge of the plain. Noël was a bit nervous, as there were a lot of sharp rocks and it was a very narrow path: Noël hoped to not fall onto one of the rocks. After they had been going for some time, they reached a big building complex. It was massive and was partly embedded into the rocks, like a villain hideout in the movies.
"And here we are: the International Police Alolan Training Base," Anabel said, as she and Noël looked up at the base looming before them.
"Wow," Noël thought awe. They rode up to the entrance, then they both dismounted Mudsdale. Anabel sent it away after another pat. As she did, a man exited the base.
"Hello, Anabel! Is this Noël?" a brown-haired man with glasses asked, walking over to them.
"Yes it is, Mal. Noël, this is the head trainer: Malcom Turinpbell. Malcom, this is Noël. And to let you know, she only communicates via telepathy: your mind," Anabel said, doing the introductions.
"Nice to meet you," Malcom said, holding his hand out for Noël to shake.
"And you," Noël said to him after shaking his hand. After seeing the suit he wore and hearing what he did, all Noël could think was there was something that did not add up. How could he train people in a suit? Maybe he only helped with Pokémon battles?
"I'll get used to it, but it is a bit disturbing. So, shall I show you around then take Noël to her room?" Malcom asked.
"Yes, that would be good," Anabel nodded, as did Noël. Anabel, like Noël hadn't been here before. She had spent a month in Unova where she met Malcom, Saniel and Looker.
"Are you staying for the night, Anabel?" Malcom asked as they went into the building. Noël was feeling excited about seeing the place.
"Yes, I am," Anabel nodded, thinking it was too late to head back, especially when there were no helicopters to take her back.
"Bravo! We have much to talk about," Malcom said beaming, as the electric doors shut behind them. He then went on to show them the whole training base, and both felt overwhelmed.
Noël worried about finding her way around, and Anabel was glad she didn't have to find her way around. This place was twice the size of the connected training facility in Unova!
(Some where out of that world, but not that far away.)3
"Madam Lusamine!" an Aether Foundation Employ cried, as he spotted the president walking with her husband, daughter and son. This was not uncommon, as Lusamine was often asked questions, and her family helped her run the organisation. She believed it was good to get them started on their future profession as early as possible.
"What, Jiles?" she responded as she turned around: her voice was very icy. Unlike everyone else, she disliked him and never hid it, not after that fateful day a few years ago.
"Can we try opening the Ultra Worm Hole again? There has been a lot of energy build up recently, so it seems we would have a good chance of reaching the other world. I know you said you did not want us to do it again, but please say yes! This is a big chance for our research! If we can reach that new world, we can discover if pokémon and humans exist in other worlds! We might also find Lyra again!" Jiles said pleadingly.
"Last time we did it, we failed to reach the world, and there was a good build-up then. Last time we did it, I lost one of my children; do you think I am going to allow you to open another portal? If you did, then your dead wrong. And very heartless!" Lusamine said, her voice shaking dangerously.
"This was over a year ago! We know so much more!" Jiles said trying to get the president to agree. "We are prepared now! And accidents happen! We won't make the same mistake."
"My answer is no, okay? And if you ever ask again, you shall find yourself suddenly unemployed," Lusamine said in a way that said 'This conversation is over.'
"Yes, boss," Jiles said downly, then he walked off.
"The nerve of that kid!" Lusamine cried when Jiles was out of earshot. She was fuming.
"Lucy, calm down; your current temper is scaring Lillie and Gladion," her husband Mohn said, feeling very concerned she was going to do something bad.
"Huh? Oh, sorry, my darlings," Lusamine said bending down and hugging the
pair, much to Gladion's dismay. He was not the cuddling type, and hardly ever enjoyed being hugged like this. Lusamine's demeanour changed very quickly.
"It is alright, mum. Just we were a bit nervous because you use that voice when we're in trouble," Lillie said timidly.
"But we knew you were not angry at us!" Gladion quickly added.
"Well, that's good," Lusamine said, breathing a sigh of relief.
"Do you think this new world is actually new? Not just one we knew of, such as Mars, that has moved closer to our planet then last time we checked the orbit?" Mohn asked, Lusamine as she stood up straight.
"To be honest, I have no idea. It seems impossible, then, on the other hand, none of the discovered planets has come anywhere this close to us before. So, I don't know," Lusamine said after thinking for a minute.
"I hope it is a new planet! And I hope it has aliens and Pokémon living on it!" Gladion cried. He wanted to meet an alien, he thought it would be cool.
"That would be good," Lillie nodded excitedly. She was not so keen to meet aliens, as she thought they may be mean.
Before either of the adults could speak, a man with green glasses and hair came up. He was dressed in the outfit the higher employees and executives wore. "President, Vice president and children, how are you?" the man asked. Feba was his name.
"Good, thank you. Jiles the twat has brought up opening the wormhole again!" Lusamine said crabbily.
"Well, that was not very thoughtful, was it?" Feba said, pretending to sound shocked that Jiles would even suggest it. He had been the one who had put him up to it in reality, pushing it for his own agenda and schemes.
"I know!" Lusamine nodded, all too happy to fume about Jiles.
"Anyway, what did you want, Feba?" Mohn asked. He did not trust Feba, but Lusamine did, and there was no reasoning with her, especially when he had already had a few arguments with her about it.
"Have you found out something cool?" Gladion asked.
"Well, we have finally managed to discover that Pokémon, Cosmog, has some connection with Solgaleo. Unfortunately due to its disappearance, we shall never find any more out, but what we are currently running with the theory Cosmog can summon the legendary beast," Feba said in an official voice.
"Well, it's a good find, anyway," Lusamine nodded. "Hopefully we can find another one, or recover it."
"What did happen to it again?" Mohn asked, finding his memory had forgotten.
"It got loose and we never saw it again, the same day Lyra disappeared. Anyway, I better get back to work," Feba said walking off.
"Want to bet Cosmog ended up going through the wormhole?" Mohn asked Lusamine.
"Why not?" Lusamine nodded.
"What's Cosmog?" Lillie asked.
"A Pokémon," Mohn responded.
"Ooh! Can we meet it?" Gladion asked excitedly.
"No, we don't have it anymore, so you can't," Lusamine said.
"Oh," The two children responded glumly.
"Come on you two, Wicke should be returning any minute," Lusamine said walking off towards their private quarters.
"Wicke?! YAY!" Lillie and Gladion cried, and they started running. Wicke may not exactly be family, but she was an aunt to them.
(A few months later, back with Noël)
"This way, Noël," Malcom said, leading Noël into their Pokémon Study Room. They normally studied Pokémon in here, learnt about using the machine and healing pokémon, but today Noël would be meeting Rosalina in the room, so she could run tests on Rosa.
"Ah, Noël," Rosalina said with a smile after she looked up. Noël saw she already had everything set up and was ready to go.
"Hello," Noël nodded.
"Ready to go?" Rosalina asked.
Noël nodded as Malcom said, "Well, I'll leave you to it." Then he left without another word.
"How are you? Hows the training going?" Rosalina asked as she and Noël shook hands. This was the first time they had met up for a few months, and they were both happy to see the other.
"Very good. I have two Pokémon I am borrowing, a shiinotic and Hydreigon. Shiinotic is very good for me, but Hydreigon hardly listens to me. Malcom says it's because it's a very high level Pokémon and I'm still a beginner. I hope he's telling the truth. Then there is the Stufful I caught, but I traded with Anabel to get her Kadabra to evolve, then later she wanted it for a cute Pokémon contest, and I have not seen it since. It is mine, I guess, but I can't say I will miss it," Noël said.
"I'm sure he is, as that is quite common, especially with rent pokémon. I'm glad Caitlin succeeded in teaching you telepathy, you know: it must be so much easier to communicate now! Well, Anabel is a good home, so I am sure it is happy. I never saw Anabel as that type, mind you: maybe she forgot it wasn't hers? All well, we all surprise each other," Rosalina said reassuringly.
Then she said, "So, Anabel says Rosa has been acting out of character and it has not gone away, is that true? And it started at the end of last month?"
Noël nodded, so Rosalina said, "Well, with the machines in this room, I'll be able to examine Rosa and try to find out what's wrong."
Noël nodded, then she pulled the Poké Carrier out and sent Rosa out into the room with them. "Hi, Rosa," Rosalina said as Noël picked Rosa up and put it on the bench Rosalina gestured for her to place it on. Rosa gave a few cries of protest but was obliging enough, and it gave a cheerful cry to Rosalina.
"Well, Rosa sure looks healthy, you have been looking after it well, Noël," Rosalina said, looking at its body and colour.
"Thank you," Noël said, feeling a bit red in the face.
"Part of the deal and all that. Now, please place Rosa in that machine that looks like a skinny Trade machine," Rosalina said pointing to the machine in question, not knowing if Noël knew what it was really called.
It did look a bit like a trade machine: it had a part attached to the floor and another part above that with space in between. Just it was skinnier than the normal trade machine, but Noël knew it was for scanning the pokémon, to find out their health and injuries.
Noël nodded and picked Rosa up again, then she carried it over and placed it in the machine. As soon as Noël had moved her hands away, blue watery looking walls appeared to keep Rosa in that one spot, which was probably for the best, considering how she liked to wander. Noël knew that was what it was for, as most wild pokémon would not sit there, either.
A few moments passed with Rosa being scanned, then there was a series of beeps. Rosalina said as the blue walls disappeared, "You may collect Rosa now."
Noël nodded, then she pulled out her Pokécarrier and returned Rosa before turning to Rosalina. Now, both women were waiting for the results, and they were thinking. For Rosalina, it was all the work she had when she got home.
She was enjoying training to be part of the International Police, and she got to do a lot of training on herself, meaning she was much stronger and fitter, and a lot of practice at pokémon battles. Come next time there was an Ultra Beast crisis, Noël would be unbeatable.
She could not wait until she was ten, because then she could finally have her own Pokémon. She had that Stufful, yes, but it was not truly hers. It was gifted to her by one of the people living here as a project, a pokémon to raise, and Noël had only had it for two weeks when Anabel took it. She didn't mind though: as long as Anabel was looking after it she could keep it, as she knew she would.
"Cosmog, nicknamed Rosa is going to evolve, or undergo some kind of form change, anyway," Rosalina said looking up at Noël. "It's going to happen soon."
Noël just stared at her blankly. "What?" she asked as she came around to have a look. On the screen, it had exactly what Rosalina had said written down.
"What I said. Keep an eye on it, and when Rosa has evolved, can you please call me?" Rosalina nicely asked, and Noël nodded. "It may be quite surprising when it happens, so don't panic too much."
"Thank you. I shall just pack my stuff up and go," Rosalina said. "Rowena was in hysterics this morning, so I better not leave her too long."
Noël stayed around to help Rosalina pack up, then she went to her room after bidding Rosalina goodbye.
$######################
Noël was on tenterhooks for a good month after Rosalina had come. The idea of Rosa evolving was exciting, and nerve-wracking, too. She hoped it happened soon, as she was struggling to concentrate on the lectures, training and all that.
Surprisingly, Noël remembered her birthday the week before Rosa changed form finally. Everyone was quite excited that she had remembered, and they started planning a big party for Noël. It was a bit late for her ninth birthday, and a bit early before her tenth birthday, so they had an even bigger party for both.
Needless to say, Noël was very surprised and very happy when she walked into the dining room and people were shouting surprise at her, jumping out from everywhere. Everyone from the base on Akala Island was there, along with everyone in the training base.
There was music, sugary food and drinks and a lot of fun games. Over the games, Noël met another girl training there, called Emily. She became fast friends with her, and they eventually shared rooms and trained together.
Before everyone left, Noël got to open presents people had gotten for her. A lot of training guides, Pokémon guides, and Epona had gotten her a Eevee plush toy. Noël had been truly blinded by all the kindness, and for the rest of the year was spurting out thank-yous every time she saw these people.
One day, two weeks after the party, when she and Emily were having practice battles, (Hydreigon was not listening as usual,) with two Shiinotic have a head to head combat, the girls giving up on Hydreigon verses trapinch. Rosa floating/standing next to Noël, chirping brightly, watching the battle with great interest.
Ten minutes later, Emily called, "Let's call it a draw! This is boring!"
Noël nodded, and then she called Shiinotic over and gave it a Pokébean before returning it to its ball. She was getting better and better, and Noël was torn. She'd like to go and collect badges, but she also wanted to go back to her friends on Akala.
"That was fun until it started to get boring," Emily said, walking over, and Noël nodded in response. Emily had lilac hair and green eyes and was the same height and age as Noël. Emily was much more confident and louder than Noël, but she had helped Noël become a bit more confident and she was a bit livelier now, too.
"Pew!" cried Rosa, causing Emily and Noël to look down at it, and both girls jumped away in surprise of what they saw. It started glowing, and changing shape: Noël was happy it was finally happening!
"It is evolving?" Emily questioned.
"Seems so," Noël nodded.
When Rosa finished evolving, the two girls noticed it had become much smaller and was not making any sounds or moving at all. Noël was having doubts about it even breathing, and she started to get worried. What if had died?!
"Is it even alive?" Emily asked tilting her head to the side, as Noël prodded Rosa gently.
Noël shrugged and returned Rosa to the Pokécarrier. "I think so, but I cannot be certain. I will call Rosalina and get her to come here and have a look at it," Noël said, trying to hide her worry, despite Rosalina's reassurances.
"She's the lady from Over the Blue, isn't she?" Emily asked, and Noël nodded. After that, the two had to go inside for a lecture, meaning Noël wouldn't be able to talk to Rosalina for a while.
The lecture was on building and forest fires and how to safely put them
out. They also learnt about rescuing Pokémon and people who are trapped or endangered from the fire. It was handy, and it could be used in many situations. They even got to do some role-play of rescuing people, though normally they'd work with rangers who would do it.
Noël did not get to talk Rosalina until that evening, meaning she was worried and concerned about Rosa the entire day. She had to continue her day to day life as a trainee, and she needed to wait until an adult was around, as they were the only ones who could turn on the text phones.
Rosalina was excited about hearing about Rosa, and revealed to Noël that she and the other trainees were coming to Over the Blue the next day, so she would look at Rosa then. With that settled, Noël hung up and went to dinner very happy, though surprised by hearing it the evening before they went, not earlier.
(Next Day, at the over the blue.)
Upon arriving at the foundation, Rosalina met them and took Noël straight down to the labs, earning many looks from the others. After explaining what had been arranged and that Noël had been here before, Rowena took the trainees and Malcom for a tour, while Rosalina took Noël down to the labs.
"Alright, Noël: same as last time," Rosalina said, setting up some devices. It was a similar setting to the one she had set up at the training base.
Noël nodded, and released Rosa into the device that looked like the one she had put Rosa in last time. Very soon, everything started up and Rosalina started running tests upon Rosa who seemed to be in a living death.
After almost twenty minutes, it all stopped. "You may collect Rosa now, Noël," Rosalina said, all business-like.
Noël nodded, and pulled out the Pokécarrier for Rosa and returned it into it. "Give it a minute and we can find out the test results," Rosalina said as Noël turned towards her. "I should replace this computer, as it's getting a bit old and slow."
"After this, should I go and join the others?" Noël asked Rosalina.
"It is almost lunchtime, so there is not any point. All the fun stuff is this afternoon, anyway! You get demonstration's on how we look after our Pokémon, do tests on them, and many other things!" Rosalina said brightly. "We are just showing them around this morning, and you have already seen this place."
"Sounds great," Noël nodded excitedly, and Rosalina could tell by Noël's expression she meant it.
"Ah, we have the results. So, Rosa seems to have undergone a form change, and now it seems to be collecting energy. Currently, it is in a form known as Cosmeom, according to my sources. Which considering we have not seen one in this planet for ages, it is probably very out of date," Rosalina said reading it. "Things change over time, so maybe it's not even correct? But it's all with have to go on."
"What does that mean?" Noël asked.
"It means, Rosa will soon undergo a big form change into a powerful Pokémon. What I don't get is the particles that make up its body seem to be cold, whereas what I have, says they are hot. Maybe, that means Rosa is from the other world, which would make sense, considering your situation. This stuff is over two million years old, though," Rosalina said thoughtfully. "I have no idea if maybe this one is born here, and has done the full-circle, or what."
"Wow, this is a lot to take it. But why me? Surely there could have been someone better?" Noël asked.
"I have found, Noël, that it is better to accept our fate rather than question it. It is much safer that way," Rosalina said giving a small smile. "Shall we go up for lunch?"
Noël nodded enthusiastically at that idea, and it was much less of a headache.
Noël is now ten…
"Right, Noël, congratulations. You're ten now, and that's an impressive feat. Which means, most importantly: you can officially own a pokémon!" Malcom said, getting to the point. He had summoned Noël to his office for a meeting, and her ceremony where she earned a pokémon. Other than the two of them, there was one other person in the room, though he was wearing an impatient look. He looked like a Pokémon Breeder, as far as Noël could see.
Noël nodded to show her understanding. "Like what we did for Emily, we will give you a Pokémon Egg to look after. When it hatches, you will be looking after your new pokémon from square one, to give you both the best possible bond. We will give you ten Pokéballs, a Poké Dex with all the International Police and Over the Blue data on all the Pokémon on it, as per standard for new trainers. Plus, I'll turn your Pokécarrier into a real Pokéball," Malcom said lazily. "You will be officially a trainer with all the supplies. There is also a belt, so you don't have to keep them in your bag."
"That would be good, sir," Noël said, breathless. "Thank you."
"All part of the job. Now, could I have Rosa's Carrier?" he asked, Noël nodded and handed it to him after fishing it out of her bag. She cursed her luck for not being able to find it and glared at him for laughing at her. Malcom found it amusing.
After a few minutes of playing with it, with the breeder and Noë watching with interest, Noël noticed the pokecarrier looked like a proper Pokéball, thanks to Malcom. "There you go," Malcom said, handing it back to her. After Noël had said thank you, Malcom brought the other man in the room into the conversation. "This is Kailen; he is a Pokémon Breeder."
"Hello, Miss Noël," Kailen said coming over. He sounded like a very kind man, and considering how old he looked, must have been very wise.
"Hello,´" Noël said nervously.
"I have heard a lot about you, and I believe what is inside this egg will be the perfect partner for you," Kailen said, revealing a carrier with an egg inside. The egg was blue with a bit of white in the middle: Noël noticed the Pokéball in the top, she assumed it was for whatever the egg was.
"Thank you. I can't wait to meet it," Noël said excitedly.
"That is what I wanted to hear. Now, let me tell you how to look after it as an egg," Kailen said beaming, handing Noël the egg.
After twenty minutes of explaining how to look after an egg, he handed Noël a Breeder's handbook. "Everything is in here, and Malcom knows how to contact me if you need to speak to me. May I go now? It is just there is always a lot of work, and I'm the only one who can do things around the farm, so it seems," Kailen asked Malcom.
"Sure, go ahead," Malcom nodded. After Noël thanked Kailen quite a few times, and a few words of parting were exchanged between the three of them, Kailen left. Noël watched him go, before turning back to Malcom and putting the egg on her lap. She couldn't wait to try some of the things a little later.
"Right, here are the ten Pokéballs I promised." He pulled out a draw and placed ten balls on the desk. Noël quickly scooped them up, brushing them into her bag. "And here is the Pokédex; just wait a second. If you discover something about a Pokémon or a creature it does not know, you have just improved our knowledge on Pokémon," Malcom said, standing up and going over to one of his locked draws and unlocking it.
After looking around for a few minutes, he pulled a bright red object called a Pokédex out, and handed it to Noël. "Thank you," Noël said bowing slightly, as he shut the drawer.
"It is all part of the service, Noël. Now, I hear your training is going very well." Noël nodded slowly, not sure if she should or not. "In two years, you will have completed your training, and we were wondering what you wanted to do. Would you like to go with Emily Rondane, and join your old friends on Akala? Or, you can go and do the Island Challenge," Malcom asked. "We can set you up for that."
Noël's eyes lit up at that idea. Then she nodded and said, "I would like to go back to the base on Akala, for the moment."
"I can't say I am surprised. They are very keen to have you, anyway," Malcom said, chuckling. "I think everyone misses you."
After a few minutes of silence, Malcom dismissed Noël, and she left his office with a prized possession called an egg, after thanking him one more time. He waved it off again, saying it was part of the service.
"Hi, Noël!" Emily said as Noël passed her in the hall.
Noël waved to give a greeting. "Are you going to your room?" Noël nodded. "I'll come with you!" Emily suggested, and Noël nodded.
"So, is that your soon to be first Pokémon?" Emily asked excitedly.
Noël nodded, letting her excitement be seen. "Great! You're soon going to be a trainer! Maybe our eggs will hatch close together and they can be best friends?!" Emily suggested, and Noël nodded to say she liked that idea.
"So, did you get spare Poké Balls and a Poké Dex too?" Emily asked, and Noël nodded and said yes. "Great! So are you going to travel? Or join the International Police Force and do something?"
Noël didn't answer until they reached her room, and she had carefully put the egg down, not wanting to risk losing her grip because she was concentrating on Emily. "I will be going to Akala Island with you in two years," Noël said.
"Really? Cool! We are going to have such fun together in the future!" Emily cried happily.
Elsewhere, again…
"So, what is this all-important news you had to drag me out of a meeting for?" Lusamine asked coldly, descending upon Feba who had sent another employee to bring her down here to the labs. In all honesty, she hated being down here, it reminded her of the time she had failed at being a mother.
She had been in a meeting with the chairman of a company in another region, discussing a trade of information for both of their causes. Lusamine had been dragged out by a nervous boy, the personal assistant to Feba, leaving her husband and Wicke to secure the information trade deal.
"Look at this," Feba said, quickly rummaging through the computer files he was working on until he pulled one with lots of complicated codes and data on it.
"That other planet we found is almost a twin to ours, as far as we can make out, and our space dishes have found there are signs of life there! Look at this, though," Feba said excitedly. He then pulled up a photo of the 'new' planet.
"Like ours, it has spots where it is obvious there used to be more planet!" Lusamine exclaimed, noticing the landmass was odd as if something had been removed. The shape was odd, too: like half was missing.
"That reminds me of an old legend," a nearby Aether Foundation employee said, coming over. He had red hair and was the grandson of the current person who guarded the Altar of Sunne. Lusamine was reminded of how many people were in this room.
"What legend?" someone else asked.
"One which talks about Alola being twice the size it is, and other regions which do not exist, like one called Unova. It says that many, many years ago the world split, creating the World of Sunne, and the world of Moone, which is much smaller than ours," the employee said nervously.
"Why haven't you mentioned this before, back when we first discovered it?" Lusamine asked.
"Well, we did not know anything about it then. And I always thought the legend was just a legend, until now," he said, then he walked off.
"Well, that explains that I suppose," Feba commented.
"Gladion and Lillie are going to be excited," Lusamine said, smiling fondly.
"Now, what is our best plan of action from here?" Feba asked eagerly.
"In three days we will head to the Altar of Sunne. If it is the legend I am thinking of he was talking about, that planet will have an Altar of Moone, and it and our altar are connected. Maybe it is possible to bridge through there somehow, but only upon the day of the new sun, which is then," Lusamine said, turning on her heel and walking away.
(With them, at the Altar of Sunne.)
Three days later, several members of the Aether Foundation, including the president and her husband, were setting up machine and lots of other things just in front of the stairs. They believed a bridge to the world of Moone would appear very soon. Only for a short period, though.
"Look!" Feba cried, pointing towards particles that were a bluey purple colour and very dark.
"Turn everything on!" Lusamine cried, flicking a couple of switches.
Very soon, a small TV-sized hole was created from the particles, and they saw pictures, scenes of a world like their own, but very different. They just watched in awe, despite seeing scenes similar in their world.
First, a ship was coming into port to a place none of them had seen before. People were shouting, "Welcome to Unova!" There was also a banner that said that same thing behind them.
Then it changed to a place that looked the Aether Foundation. A woman with a cap and brown hair done in a ponytail was smiling while checking the heart rate of a red Vulpix.
Again, the scene changed: an old woman was praying at what looked like the Altar of Sunne, except the symbol, was different, and instead of red, purple was the favourites colour. It was also night here: everyone wondered if that was the Altar of Moone.
Again, a new scene appeared. A pair of twins were watching a shuttle come down from the sky and land. They then saw a little later a man come and hug the twins in a fatherly manner. He then told them he had new pokémon for them.
Lastly, they saw somewhere that looked like a super training ground, and there were two young girls doing star jumps. One had a Lavitar next to her: she had purple hair. The other girl had blonde hair, and no pokémon were with her.
Then the hole faded. "We got all that on camera!" an excited employee cried.
"What you saw then were mere fragments of a world far greater than that," a wise voice said. Everyone turned to see an elderly man dressed in orange and red with the symbol of sunne all over him. He had a necklace with the symbol of sunne on it.
"Was that the world of Moone?" Mohn asked, nodding respectably to the man, knowing who he was.
"Yes, it was. Very soon, that world will attempt to rejoin ours. Those people, their lives are happy. However, one you saw is a very important person if we are to have a future," he said.
"What do you mean?" Lusamine asked.
"My time grows short: I must find a new Attendant to work with the new Moone Attendant to save the world. I feel the new attendant of the other altar is chosen already. Beware: soon powerful alien beasts will come and invade our land, and wormholes will appear and randomly take people," the Sunne Attendant said. Then he went off.
"That was creepy," a female employee commented when the attendant was gone.
"Sure was," Feba nodded.
"Come on, let's get packed up," Lusamine said, shaking her head. The blonde girl, she looked familiar, and it was haunting the Aether president.
(Back with Noël, a few months later…)
"And here we are! At the end of our hike!" Malcom exclaimed as the Altar of Moone came into sight.
Noël had to not look at him, as he was wearing clothes appropriate to hiking, but something about what he choose, or maybe because Noël was used to seeing him in anything other than a suit. In all honesty, she was having very hard not to laugh at him.
"Wow!" Everyone cried, and Noël just took it in. She had been here before, as some of the others, most likely, but it was still amazing. There was something mystical, powerful, spiritual about this place.
"Are we to climb those steps? They look very steep," Emily asked, gulping as she looked up to the top.
This is part of your training: you can't expect it all to be easy. Come on, the sooner we get to the top, the sooner we can have lunch," Malcom said, starting up the steps. He wondered how on earth he let himself be conned into doing this. While he wouldn't admit it, he had to agree with Emily and wished he had a pokémon he could ride. He had no reason to submit himself to this torture.
Noël, seeing none of the others were going to go, started up the stairs after Malcom, and everyone else followed suit. The stairs seemed to go on forever, and they felt as though they were almost climbing. But they got to the top nonetheless, even if they collapsed as soon as they were there. Noël thought she would rather ride a pokémon up.
"We all made it!" one of them cried, starfishing.
"You kids wait here, I will try and find Leemoona," Malcom said to them, being in a much better state. Even if he constantly wore a suit, he did train in private, just in case. Then he walked off.
Noël suggested to Emily, "How about you let Levi out?"
"Letting Lavi out? What? Oh! Good idea!" Emily nodded, forgetting her pokémon momentarily before pulling a Pokéball out.
A couple of days ago, her egg had hatched into a Lavitar, which she called Lavi. Noël's hadn't hatched yet, but they could all see it was about to. Both girls were annoyed it hadn't hatched yet, and Emily thought it was making them wait on purpose.
"Lavitar!" Lavi cried as it was released from its ball.
"What do you think, Lavi?" Emily asked with a big grin.
"Ah! Here comes Malcom!" one of the others cried. They all stood up and greeted Malcom and the woman Noël had met when she was here last time. Leemoona she must have been called, Noël thought, realising she had not heard her name last time.
The next few minutes passed quite slowly, with greetings and listening to chit chat, until Leemoona got to Noël, smiling fondly as she reached her.
"Tell me young one, how is that Pokémon you have in your care?" she asked Noël.
"Rosa? It has evolved!" Noël told her
"Ah, good, it seems I was correct in handing that necklace to you," Leemoona nodded.
"What do you mean?" Noël asked. She had kept that necklace either on her or under her pillow for the last however many years, and she wanted to know more about it.
"When you first came here with Cosmog, I saw you were different, and I wondered if you are meant to be the next attendant," Leemoona started.
"What's that?" Emily asked, joining the conversation.
"The Attendant of Moone is the one who has been chosen by the Moon God to protect the Altar, especially until the planet is restored. I am the current one, but I feel my time is short, and soon the next one will have to rise," Leemoona said.
"And you think that's me?" Noël asked.
"Yes, I do. One day soon, Rosa will bring you here to take up your destiny. If you ever end up in trouble, show that necklace, then find the Attendant of Sunne," Leemoona said, then she moved on.
"Cool! Do you think that means the world of Sunne and Moone will soon be one again?" Emily asked.
"I hope so," Noël said, thinking the world needed to be repaired.
That evening….
As Noël got ready for bed that night, going over everything Leemoona had told her, wishing for once she could be normal for once. Noël noticed something glowing out of the corner of her eye, and quickly turned. She quickly turned and spotted Rosa in its comatose stat on her bed, so she was confused: what else would be glowing? Then she realised the egg was glowing.
Noël quickly went over and gently took the egg out and placed it on the bed, next to Rosa. "Hey, Noël—oh! Your egg is hatching!" Emily cried as she walked in. She quickly rushed over to watch.
After a few more minutes of glowing, the egg cracked, to reveal a blue and white bird in its place. "A Swablu?" Emily guessed as Noël looked around for her Pokédex.
Sure enough, her new Pokémon was identified as Swablu. "Hi, Swablu, I'm Noël, and over there is my friend Emily," Noël thought looking straight at Swablu who was looking at her. All Pokémon could understand human speech pretty well, along with telepathy. When Noël was more skilled, she would be able to converse with her Swablu.
"Hi, Swablu! I'm Emily!" Emily said, introducing herself.
"Swablu!" Swablu cried after looking at Emily, but then it looked back at Noël.
"Are you going to catch it? or are we going to look at it all night?" Emily asked.
"Hang on," Noël said, throwing in an eye-roll for good measure. She then got up and grabbed the Pokéball that had been on top of Swablu's carrier the whole time it had been inside the egg.
"We are going to be great friends, Swablu," Noël told Swablu as she came back and held the Pokéball a bit in front of Swablu.
It seemed to understand that, because Swablu chirped excitedly, before picking the ball and going on. A few moments later the Pokéball donged to tell Noël the pokémon had been captured. Noël smiled fondly, happy it seemed to like her already, though she was surprised that it went in straight away.
"Don't forget, Pokémon raised from eggs already are attached to you, so they already want to go with you," Emily said after seeing Noël's surprised look.
"True. I will call it Bella," Noël said, after thinking for a minute.
"You think it's a girl, then?" Emily asked, and Noël nodded. "Well, congrats. I am going to go to bed now, but we will have to make sure Lavi and Bella meet tomorrow."
"Good idea. Goodnight," Noël nodded.
"Night!" Emily said getting up. Then she left the room and left Noël to finish getting ready for bed.
Noël two years time from then…
"Are you excited? We're finally going to get off this dump of an Island and leave this stupid base!" Emily cried excitedly. The two girls had just finished packing and were walking out to meet Malcom outside where a helicopter was waiting.
They didn't keep helicopters here, as it was considered a lazy mans' way of travelling. They only called them in to go out on missions and take trainees out to places.
Noël nodded quickly. Two years ago, Malcom had given her the choice to start her Island challenge or go and work for her friends on Akalaka at the end of her training. After hearing where Emily was going, Noël's choice was made.
Lavi and Bella had gotten very strong, and Lavi had evolved into Pupitar! Emily had been very excited, and Noël had been too. A little jealous too, though. They both had caught a Pokémon each, too. Emily a Fledgling, Chirpy, and Noël a Ponyta, Poppy. Fledgling loved both girls, and Noël and Emily could often be seen riding Poppy just outside the base among the hills and sharp rocks.
While only in fun and play, you could ride whatever pokémon you wanted if you were under fourteen. Noël was going to get Poppy registered as a ride-able Pokémon in the future though. She wanted to ride her own Pokémon, not other people's! International police officers could register their pokémon, but Epona had chosen not to register, she found out, or didn't have a pokémon that counted; Noël didn't know which.
"It has been the longest two years, hasn't it?" Noël said. Bella was resting on Noël's head, and Lavi was walking/slithering next to Emily.
"Defiantly! I am so excited! Something different! Then, I have this feeling that something truly magical is going to happen soon!" Emily exclaimed.
"As long as we can get used to it first," Noël said tiredly.
"That would be nice: but you can't have everything!" Emily said, playfully nudging Noël.
Noël nodded, but she didn't send any more thoughts to Emily. A few minutes later, they walked out to the battle courts to see a helicopter waiting for them, it's bright red paint shining proudly in the sun.
"Emily! Noël! Are you ready?" Malcom called from the backseat area. From as far as they could see, that was all that was open: the other door on that side was closed.
"Coming!" Emily cried. Then she said to Noël, "Race you there. 3, 2, 1, go!"
The two girls and a Pupitar then broke into a run: Bella had to grip tighter onto Noël's hat after almost being jerked off. She squeaked, upset, but quickly settled again.
As the two girls climbed into the helicopter, Malcom commented while taking their bags, "I'm going to miss you two. Unlike most kids, you two of grown on me."
"Aw, thank you. You will have to come and visit," Emily said and Noël nodded, as she and Noël sad down and begun buckling themselves in.
"Yes, I shall," Malcom nodded. He then lent over and shut the door. A few minutes later, (after making sure Emily and Noël were belted in, and Lavi and Bella were in safe positions,) he called to the driver, "All ready to go!"
"Yes, sir!" the pilot said. They sounded female. A few minutes later, the engine started, and soon they observed the ground starting to get further away.
The trip was mostly silent because there was not much to say. They were enjoying the scenery, too. After a while, the female pilot called, "Will be landing in five!"
"Thanks, June!" Malcom nodded. Then he said to the two children with him, "Now, Saniel wanted me to pass onto you two, that for the first few months, you won't be doing that much. After that, you will get to go out more. But for the start, it will be boring."
"Okay," Emily said, and Noël nodded.
"Thanks for letting us know," Noël said quickly.
"No problem," Malcom smiled.
A bit later, the helicopter came to an almost standstill, and they started to land. When they landed, June, the pilot, turned the engine off before saying, "All free to go."
"Right, girls; come on," Malcom said, unbuckling himself then opening the door. After the two girls and their Pokémon were out, Malcom handed them their backpacks and said he would carry their suitcases. After grabbing the remaining two bags, he got out, too. He gave a small nod, then they started toward the town.
Noël was very excited and was running ahead, with Emily and Lavi right behind her, and Malcom trailing by quite a lot. Trailing enough that Emily and Noël both stood out the front of the base for a few minutes, waiting for him.
When Malcom caught up, they all went in. Anabel greeted them. "Noël! How are you?!" Anabel exclaimed, excited to see the little girl who had grown a lot.
"Great!" Noël cried, hugging her.
"That's good. And you must be Emily: I have heard a lot about you," Anabel said with a soft smile.
"Hi," Emily said shyly. This was the first time they had formally met: Anabel had seen Emily, but not known who she was.
"Alright there, Malcom?" Anabel called.
"Yeah, just peachy," Malcom said, breathing heavily.
"Right. Noël, you remember your old room right?" Noël nodded. "Well, you and Emily will be sleeping in the room across. You don't mind sharing, do you?" The two girls shook their heads. "Good. I need to talk to Malcom about a few things, but I will bring the last of your bags up when I'm done."
"Okay. Lead the way, Noël," Emily said, both girls taking a suitcase, meaning there was only two fro Anabel to bring up.
Noël nodded, then she led her friend upstairs. After traversing all the floors, (Noël remembering the walk to get up there,) and getting welcome backs from several people, including Looker and Epona, they finally reached Noël's old room. Right there, she turned across to the room and opened the door opposite.
"Here we are," Noël told her. Both then ran to beds and jumped onto them, landing, face in the pillow. Lavi and Bella came in between the two beds and looked at them curiously.
"It is so good to be here!" Emily exclaimed.
Noël didn't respond, though. She was having thoughts along the line of, "It is so good to be home."
So, this is the end. I feel a little sad, but I would rather write (or start) another idea then finish this one, as it probably has the less colour of the ideas I have. Thank you for reading, and I was glad I could find a spot to finish it, so that if I decide to return one day or someone else adopts it, it can start off as before, or otherwise this would make an ending to it, though unfurfilling.
Thank you and peace!
