Everyone was having a good time until a honk of a horn and the sound of a spacecraft landing, came from outside. Steven looked outside and gasped seeing Sadie and Lars with the Off Colors. "Guys!" He greeted jumping down to meet them, hugging them. "I'm so glad to see you guys! How did you know we were here?" He asked.
"Connie texted us," Sadie told him showing her phone with the texts from Connie. They all had smiles on their faces as they catching up as Connie and the gems came down.
"Oh, guys, I'm going to be a father!" He told them to go over to Connie and putting an arm around her waist with a big grin.
"Wow, congratulations Steven! That's great news!" Sadie said going over to them and hugging them.
"Yeah, can't believe you're going to be a father," Lars said patting Steven's back smiling.
"I predict Steven will announce being a caretaker of a small human," Padparadscha said walking over to Connie.
"Thanks, Pad," Lars told the past-seeing gem before they all continued talking again.
Night approached, Steven waved as Lars and Sadie headed their separate ways once more. Connie was next to him, hugging his arm as she waved too. It was time they should be going back to their home too.
"We should be heading home too," Connie told him making Steven nod.
"Yeah, almost forgot I don't live here anymore." He chuckled as they headed up to the temple. Greg was the first one to meet them. "We're about to get heading home ourselves." He told him.
"I figured, visit more often, okay bud?" He told Steven hugging him making Steven hug back.
"We will, more often than we have been." Steven chuckled. "Love you, dad." He said giving his dad another hug as Lion was laying in the living room. "We'll see you guys soon." He told the gems as they waited for them. There was only Garnet, Pearl, and Amethyst there, the other three had left awhile ago.
"Be careful, Steven. Don't drink coffee tonight." Garnet said giving some future vision as Steven had Connie climb onto Lion.
"You know our number, call us if you need anything," Pearl told them with a smile on her face.
"Bring some food next time!" Amethyst grinned as she sat on the counter as Lion stood up.
Connie and Steven said their goodbyes again before Lion roared a portal into existence and jumped through, landing in their back yard. "What a day, that was fun, wasn't it?" Connie asked as Steven helped her off of Lion.
"Yeah, it was nice seeing everyone again, but I'm glad that we're home," Steven said placing a kiss on her forehead making her chuckle.
"Me, too. I'm going to take a shower and be off for bed." Connie told him kissing his cheek and pulling away as she headed inside.
Steven sighed with a smile as Lion walked next to him. Steven put a hand on his mane, petting the animal. "I can't wait to be a parent, Lion. I'm going to teach them so many things and show them off to everyone. I can't believe my life turned out this way, you know?" He asked looking over and seeing Lion curl up and falling asleep. "Night, buddy." He whispered not wanting to wake the Lion and headed inside for some needed rest.
"Steven, just go to work. I'll be fine. The baby is supposed to come in a week. I have all the numbers. Yes, I love you too. Bye." Connie said hanging up her phone with a sigh. She smiled as she looked down at her belly and grabbing some chips and ice cream and sat down on the couch with a grunt as she made sure she didn't fall over.
Connie started eating the chips as she turned on the tv, a hand on her belly. "What do you want to watch, baby?" Connie asked flipping through channels until it landed on a show about the universe, feeling the baby kick. She grunted with a giggle and left it on the show. "You already like space, huh?" She told the baby with a smile, eating some ice cream as she relaxed as best as she could.
By the time Steven came back, Connie was asleep with the tv still running. Steven chuckled placing a bouquet of flowers from his job down on the counter and taking off his flourish apron before heading over to the couch, cleaning up around his wife. "I'm home." He whispered to her making her hum. "I got you flowers." He told her as she just mumbled an 'okay'.
Steven chuckled and picked her up with ease and carried her to bed. "Want me, to make dinner?" He asked her making her nod, as she snuggled under the blankets, waking up slightly. Giving him a small, tired smile.
He gave her a kiss on the lips before leaving the bedroom and started preparing dinner for the two of them with a hum. He placed the flowers in a vase, placing it on the table in the middle as he cooked some burgers. While waiting for the burgers to cook he did some cleaning around the house while Connie rested in their room.
He was worried about her, mostly about when the baby would come. He read that they could come early and that scared him. He didn't want to be in the middle of his job when he gets a call saying Connie was in the hospital in labor. He wanted to be there when it happened, he also didn't want to see Connie in pain. He read of all the things that could happen during pregnancy and it made him paranoid. He panicked a bit when he looked at his reflexive seeing he was glowing again.
"Steve, calm down. Everything will be fine, take some deep breathes." He told himself as he took some deep breathes until he stopped glowing. It was easier to manage now, his pink self. That didn't stop some outbursts though, but they weren't as bad when he was younger. "Look, Connie and the baby will be fine. It's normal to be feeling worried, just think about how you're going to teach them to play the guitar, play with Lion, have them go to school." Steven was smiling as he flipped the burgers.
Everything was fine. He finished preparing the burgers and started putting the condiments on. With Connie's cravings, it was... Different to say the least. He put ketchup, cheddar cheese, mayo, lettuce, kale, ice cream, and some chips in the burger he made for Connie. "Food's done!" He called to her as he put her food on a tray and walking into their room. "For my beautiful wife! Dinner! In bed." He told her as she giggled sitting up as Steven placed the tray on her lap, giving her a kiss on her cheek.
"Thanks, honey." She smiled eating her burger as Steven went back and put together his burger and headed to their room, taking a seat next to her as they ate dinner in peace. It was time like this that made him happy. It was short-lived when Connie gasped and held her belly.
"Connie, what's wrong?" He asked her as she bit her lip before letting out a cry. "Connie!' Steven said getting up quickly and going over to her, putting the tray aside. "Is the baby coming?" He asked making her nod.
"Steven, they're coming, right now." She said taking deep breaths as Steven panicked and started getting stuff together.
"Alright, let's go to the hospital, don't worry, Lion can-" Steven started before Connie cut him off.
"No, the car. Hurry." She gasped, holding her belly. "My water broke." She said as Steven kept panicking and got up and got his car keys before hurrying over to Connie's side, helping her get out of the house and into the car.
"Don't worry, we'll be there soon!" Steven tried to reassure her as he tried calming himself down while his stress was through the roof.
He drove down the road as fast as he could go without being stopped by the police, heading to the hospital Connie's mom still worked at. Well, she was his mother now too, but his mind was racing as he heard Connie doing her breathing and sometimes crying out in pain.
"Steven, it's a-alright." He heard Connie say with a pained smile as he looked down at his knuckles seeing he was turning pink. He calmed down and gave her a smile back before parking the car and hurrying Connie out and into the hospital.
"Someone, help! My wife, she's in labor." Steven called as some nurses came over, getting a wheelchair and driving her off with Steven following behind. He was given some clothes to wear while Connie was going through labor.
Everything was going so fast for him as he went into the emergency room seeing the doctor telling Connie to push as Connie had a pained expression on her face. "Hey, I'm here." He told her, kneeling beside her, letting her hold his hand as they went through this together.
It felt like hours had gone by before they heard the cries of a baby, Connie had tears in her eyes as she smiled as the doctor announced it was a boy, wrapping the baby in a towel and handing them to Connie.
Connie smiled looking over at Steven as he stared in awe at their baby boy. "What should his name be?" Steven asked looking down at the light-skinned baby, their eyes looking up at them in curiosity.
"I was thinking, Nova." Connie smiled as Steven chuckled.
"Welcome to Earth, Nova Universe." Steven smiled at their child, tears pricking his eyes as they enjoyed the comfortable feeling of being a family of three.
They both looked up when they heard someone enter, seeing Connie's mom. "Hey, mom. Meet Nova." Connie smiled as they watched her walk over to look at Nova.
"He's beautiful," She told them as Nova kept looking around with his big eyes. "Hey, Nova. I'm your grandma." Priyanka told Nova as Nova looked at the new face.
"And I'm your dad," Steven said as he let Nova hold his pinky with a teary-eyes smile.
"Dr. Priyanka, you are needed in room 234B." A nurse came in making Priyanka nod and stand up.
"I'm so happy for you both." She smiled at the new parents before going back to her job, leaving them alone.
"I can't believe this happened so fast," Steven said as he and Connie looked down at their baby, sleeping in a cradle in their finished room.
"Me neither, but look at him. It was worth it." Connie smiled as they kept watching Nova sleep.
"It's late, let's get some sleep," Steven told her, putting an arm around her and both leaving Nova to sleep as they went to bed. Both knowing it would be a while before they could get a good night's sleep again.
"Things couldn't have gone more perfectly, Steven. Minus having the baby a week early." Connie told him as they laid in their bed as she stared at the ceiling.
"Yeah, things are going to be much more exciting now." Steven chuckled rolling on his side and hugging her close.
"Yeah. Night Steven." Connie said cuddling up against him, enjoying being held.
"Night, Connie," Steven muttered as his eyes drooped down and closed as sleep took over them. He let out a smile as they slept. Everything was perfect and quiet as the parents slept. Until the baby monitor went off as Nova started crying, waking them up.
