Over the next few weeks, Elisa and Goliath got to know their daughter.

Nayeli had been firmly embraced by all who met her, and she had so many unofficial aunts and uncles that it truly boggled the mind. Thanks to the good start from Pamela with the Velcro backed clothing, it gave everyone else time to help adjust and alter more clothing to allow for the wings and the tail.

Skyler was, once more, a complete godsend while Elisa recovered from the C-section.

Between the two women, they discovered what Pamela had said about the tail was true. When Nayeli's world was out of balance in any way, first the crying, the tail would get in to it.

Goliath hurried to assure her that it was only because she didn't have a full control of it yet, but that would come soon.

Elisa couldn't tell if he was lying to make her feel better or not. After all, Nayeli was the only actual "born" gargoyle of any kind. Gargoyles hatched from eggs 10 years after being laid, and when they came out, they were fully formed, articulate, and so much larger than a human baby.

Elisa had come to think of it as an evolutionary step somewhere along the line. They came out ready to begin training, and large enough to make any predators or enemies think twice.

Nayeli didn't have that option. She was human newborn small, did not turn to stone at any time, and was for the most part a very quiet and calm baby. She would open her eyes and just look around as if she were trying to take it all in, memorize it all, and store the information for later.

Even Elisa's mother commented on it.

"She's an old soul," Diane had said.

Between Diane and Beth, they had managed to stage a few baby pictures for Elisa to take to work to show off as any mother would do. Of course, they took them while Nayeli was asleep, and used some decorative blankets placed between her back and wings to hide them. One more blanket draped in such a way to hide her tail in the blanket's folds, and presto! Once non-photo-shopped baby picture that was safe for Elisa to frame on her desk beside her pictures of Liam.

One night, just after sunset, Elisa found herself sitting on the couch in the living room next to Liam. They had been watching a movie while Elisa had been feeding Nayeli.

One of the drawbacks to having a C-section, is that occasionally a female's body failed to allow her to breastfeed. Elisa was, unfortunately, one of those few, and so it had been trial and error with the formula. Poor Nayeli seemed to have little patience with her parents over this issue, and while Elisa couldn't blame her, it had been the epitome of frustrating.

Elisa had been starting to feel as if she were the worst mother on the face of the planet.

They had finally found that she could tolerate one specific soy based formula that was meant for babies with sensitive stomach issues.

Once that had been discovered, Nayeli was good as gold. She was smiling, happy, and loved to make baby blowing and cooing sounds at everyone.

For Liam, it had been love at first sight. He had already become his sister's greatest champion outside of his parents and Skyler. If anyone else wanted to come near her or hold her, Liam was there to keep watch.

Elisa lifted Nayeli to her shoulder, and rubbed gentle circles in the baby's back.

Nayeli burped, gurgled a little and then began fighting sleep.

Elisa laughed a little, and got to her feet. Skyler hurried forward to help, but Elisa waved her off. "I'm fine," Elisa hurried to assure her. "I'm just going to go lay her down and I'll be back."

Slowly, Elisa made her way up the stairs to the bedroom levels of the condo. The condo was only a three bedroom, but it did have an office on the ground floor that could be converted into a bedroom. Skyler offered to take the space, but Elisa had decided that there was no hurry right now.

All Nayeli needed right now was her small crib, and that was tucked neatly into a corner of Elisa's bedroom. Nayeli loved to also have her fuzzy and satin edged lavender blanket and the small pink stuffed cat that Beth had snuck into the bassinette with her the day she'd been born.

Elisa laid Nayeli down in her crib, on her tummy because evidently it wasn't comfortable for her to lay on her back. Elisa assumed that it was due to the wings and tail, but even Goliath couldn't answer that one. Elisa ran her hand gently down her daughter's back, and covered her gently with the blanket. Nap time ritual almost completed, Elisa looked around for that stuffed cat, but couldn't find it.

She looked high and low, but it didn't seem to be in the room.

Nayeli began to fuss, and Elisa began to worry. That stuffed animal hadn't left the crib since the day they had discovered that Nayeli wouldn't go to sleep without it.

Elisa was about to give up and go call for Skyler for help, when a faint green glow from the hallway caught her attention. Elisa whirled to the door only to find the stuffed cat floating up the stairs in a green haze, a dazed looking Liam and Skyler trailing its journey.

The cat came to a rest in the crib, near enough to Nayeli's hand that she was able to curl her fingers in the fur.

Nayeli instantly calmed, and drifted peacefully into sleep.

"Sooo…" Skyler began.

"Yeah," Elisa said. "Sooo…"

"Well, mom" Liam said, tilting his head thoughtfully, suddenly looking and sounding older than his eight years, "You were wondering what she would get from the fae side."

Both women swung their head around to stare at him.

"What?" He asked with a shrug. "I hear things."

Elisa chuckled softly, mindful to not wake Nayeli. "Well, son of mine," she said, throwing an arm around his shoulders, "Get ready, because I have a feeling that our lives are about to get a lot more interesting."

Skyler laughed as she pulled the door shut silently behind them.
