Inspired by something I read on Pinterest. Read while listening to the link in the description. you won't regret it. watch?v=zR7KErA5bqY First option. If that doesn't work it's called 'River Flows In You 60 Minutes Version (With Rain In Background)' on youtube. Remember to review!
It was 2:30 in the morning, the night before finals. They had stayed up studying. As John felt his eyes begin to droop, he felt a warm arm slide around his waist. He looked up to see Alexander still looking down at his notebook smiling as he wrote. As Alexander rested his head on John's shoulder, the later lay his head atop the other, allowing his arm to gently wrap around his waist.
Relishing the touch, they stayed silent as they listened to the pitter-patter of rain and occasional thunder outside the college dorm complex. They continued to flip through textbooks and read notes that had been taken during the semester for another 15 minutes before the peaceful silence was broken.
"John?" As John lifted his head, Alex did the same making eye contact.
"Yeah?"
Alex pulled himself from John's grasp and stood up; holding his hand, he pulled John up and to the center of the room between their beds.
"There's this song my mother used to play for me when I was little. It's called 'River flows in you.' Do you know it?"
"Oh, yeah. Is it…" He quietly hummed a couple of measures of the song before looking back to Alexander for confirmation.
He smiled in return, "Yeah, that's it." He sheepishly looked down before continuing. "This might be cheesy, but I was thinking maybe we could…" He tailed off leaving the sentence unfinished.
Luckily, John knew what he was asking. He snaked his hand around Alex, placing it on the small of his back. Taking Alexander's right hand in his left, he raised it, still keeping it close enough to their shoulders.
As Alex brought his left hand to John's shoulder, he smiled looking up as John began to hum the song. They began to waltz around the dorm room.
Occasionally, John with miss a certain tone, skip a verse, or incorrectly repeat a measure, not to mention that he was incredibly off-pitch. Eventually, he started the song from what he guessed was the beginning. As time progressed and they gave small chuckles at John's mistakes, Alexander allowed his head to rest on John's chest. With his height, he was just tall enough to hear John's calming heartbeat.
After a couple of minutes, Alexander's arms relaxed to be wrapped around John's torso and his head in the crook of his neck. As John rested his arms atop his shoulders, and his chin on his head, his humming started cracking and out of tune.
As they swayed in place, leaning into the touch and listening to the rain and John's, needless to say, terrible humming, he started to smile as he stopped humming.
"I love you."
He felt Alex smile against his skin and take a deep breath, savoring the scent of his boyfriends somewhat worn off cologne.
"I love you too."
