Morning Ritual
Summary: Tanjirou's mornings start the same way. He's very happy for it.
Notes: I've been repeatedly asked to write a married TanShino au, so here we go. Hope I did it justice.
Kamado Tanjirou's day started always at half past five.
He ran the local bakery, but that wasn't the sole reason he woke before sunrise.
He prepared the bread of the day and then made breakfast.
Tanjirou carefully set up the tray, picked it up and made his way back to the bedroom.
He set the tray down, beside the bed and then got back in, careful not to wake the other person sleeping still.
Then, he leaned over them and pressed a kiss to their forehead.
"Good morning, my dear wife." he smiled, "Breakfast is ready."
"Five more minutes? What time is it?" came the sleepy reply.
"Seven o'clock. Don't you think it's time this beautiful butterfly spread her wings, Shinobu?"
Shinobu snuggled closer to Tanjirou.
"Noooo…" she yawned, "You left the bed early and I was cold. You have to make up for it."
Tanjirou held her close.
"I brought you breakfast." he smiled softly.
Shinobu looked up at him.
"You know how this goes, Tanjirou." she deadpanned.
Tanjirou laughed and kissed her.
"This is our morning ritual. I won't hear your voice all day. I miss it already." he said, running his fingers through her hair.
Shinobu blushed slightly, hiding her face in his chest.
"You're such a sweet-talker, Tanjirou."
Tanjirou chuckled.
"No, I'm not." he said, "You know that very well."
"Honest to a fault." Shinobu sighed, with a small smile, reaching up to kiss him.
"Breakfast?" he asked softly.
"Yes, alright."
Tanjirou took a moment to hold Shinobu in his arms a little longer. Then he kissed the top of her head and leaned over to grab the tray.
"Aren't you tired of doing this every morning?" Shinobu asked, as Tanjirou took another bite from their breakfast, "You've been doing it for a coupe of years now."
Tanjirou looked at her.
"Are you asking me if I am tired of caring for you?" he blinked, "Why would I be? It's my honor as your husband to do so. And breakfast is an important meal. And I get to spend more time with you."
Shinobu gave him a soft smile, before leaning close to kiss his lips.
"You're such a sweet talker, husband." she said, nuzzling against his neck.
"If you say so, my dear wife." he chuckled, "Who am I to argue?"
Shinobu puffed out her cheeks and, affectionately, pinched his.
Tanjirou smiled softly.
"Love you, too." he said, pressing a soft kiss to her lips.
"Yeah, I do." she replied, hiding her face in his chest, "Five more minutes?"
"You know I can't deny you anything." Tanjirou replied, holding her close to his chest.
"You spoil me too much." Shinobu sighed, content.
Tanjirou ran his fingers through her short hair with a soft smile.
"I love your smile, so…" he shrugged a little.
Shinobu didn't reply, opting to hold him tight and get as close as possible to his warmth. Tanjirou hummed, reciprocating to her tight hold, wanting to feel her close for just a little bit longer, keep her scent vivid in his memory while he'd wait for her to return home from work.
They stay like that for a little while longer, and then Shinobu groans as her alarm goes off.
Tanjirou chuckles, leans down and kisses her.
They get up and get dressed for their day.
"Go save lives, my dear wife." he says against her lips, as he sees her off, "Love you."
Shinobu chuckled softly in the kiss.
"Love you, too." she replied, and then took off for her medical practice, watching Tanjirou open the bakery.
