A/N: Like I said, this story is writing itself now. Yes, Roy owns the same exact car as Edward Cullen did in the New Moon movie, no I did not do this on purpose I just wanted to give them safe cars. I knew a Mustang wouldn't really fit car seats and stuff, so I needed to give him an SUV but like a ~sporty~ SUV, so I gave him a Volvo and then realized it was then one Edward Cullen had. Is it sad that I was laughing at my own banter when I wrote this?

I have no idea why Ed doesn't like Neil deGrass Tyson, but I feel like he would annoy him because dude seems a little odd. I don't mean to offend the guy, he is very smart but on his twitter he seems dry AF and I feel like that would annoy Ed. Ed is too smart for his own good and likes to judge other scientist ok, please don't judge me I am not a scientist. My Ed just finds him boring because my Ed is kind of a dick (I'm clearly afraid this is going to annoy someone who really gets science lol)

Please don't judge this chapter I literally just wrote 3K words randomly in like an hour but it so fits these characters that I don't want to change anything. They are both in love but are scared shitless to upset the other person.

Also, Al is a BAMF that knows too much as per usual.

Edward found himself somewhat swept off his feet, Roy was so much more intelligent than he originally thought. Of course, Ed knew Roy wasn't stupid - he was an attorney and law school was no walk in the park. But, Edward did not know the man was so well versed in science, he remembered Roy said he enjoyed chemistry but he didn't say anything about physics. As Edward had started to explain the book, the theory of everything, a topic he knew well because it was what he had been researching in grad school, Roy wasn't just able to keep up with him, he was able to share his thoughts. For Edward, it was something that made his heart skip and gave him a rush of excitement, because he was only able to really banter science with Al. Winry knew science, Winry wasn't dumb, her science was just more anatomy and medical based - something Edward didn't really care that much about to keep up with or debate about.

"Damn." Edward said, pausing in his spew of science and the law of physics, "You clearly have been holdin' back on how fucking much you are hiding in that brain." Ed said, running his thumb across the glossy page of his book. He turned his gaze from the book to look at Roy, "Like, I know you're not dumb or anything, law school isn't something simple or easy to complete, but hell you said you dabbled in chemistry," Edward continued, "not that we could talk physics and shit."

Roy just grinned, "I try to hold back some things," He said smoothly, "I can't reveal all my secrets at once, what fun would that be?" He chuckled, "You're the one who is hiding how damn smart you are, I know that you worked in a research lab and all, but your theories are amazing." Roy said, "If you go back to working in a research lab, they will be very lucky to have a brain like yours."

Roy did not add that they would also be lucky to have Ed's fire and passion, because there was no way to say that without sounding like he was flirting. Of course, Roy knew he was already hooked on the beautiful man sitting across from him, but Roy knew now was not the time to put the moves on Edward. He wasn't even six months past losing his wife, and he wasn't even fully back on his feet yet. Dating was clearly the farthest thing from Edward's mind right now, but Roy was still enamored by the man and he could not hide that. But, he could keep some things at bay, keep things on Edward's terms and let him guide the way.

Edward blushed slightly, "Thanks, working on getting back in the field right now." Edward said, he shut the book he had been reading from and sat it on top of the stack of books that sat beside him, "Al found a position open for me somewhere, so I've applied and am hoping they call me back."

Roy didn't ask why he didn't mention where he applied, that was Edward's business and not his. "Well where ever it is, they would be lucky to have you." Roy said, "I hope they call you back."

Edward just smiled, gathering up his books in his arms, "Well, I'm sure Al's wondering what's taking me so long." Edward said, slowly starting to stand up, pausing as winced slightly - his automail leg didn't always like when he sat for too long. "I promised Annelise I wouldn't take forever, but the kid knows how I am in a bookstore."

Roy quickly stood up, offering a hand to Edward who was still crouched down slightly. "Let me help you," He said, as the wince wasn't completely hidden to him. Roy knew he was missing a leg, but obviously knew Ed had a prosthetic of some sort.

Edward frowned slightly at the hand being offered to him, before letting his pride go and accepted Roy's offer. "Thanks," Edward said as he was pulled to his feet, "Left leg doesn't like when I sit in a weird position for too long."

"That's the one with the prosthetic, right?" Roy asked, keeping his eyes on Edward's face because he knew staring at the prosthetic leg - even though it was covered by Ed's pants - would not do him any favors.

Edward stared at Roy for a moment before nodding, "Yeah, I've had it for most of my life now." Edward said, "Stupid thing still likes to give me grief though."

They started to walk out of the science section, both knowing they needed to get back to their kids. "What type of prosthetic is it, if you don't mind me asking?" Roy asked, hoping it would not offend Edward.

"Oh, it's automail." Edward said without a hitch, a smile playing way to his lips, "Winry, my wife, she had been the one designing them for most of my life."

"Wow," Roy said, "That's amazing, I've seen some of my old friends who I toured with get automail and it's really incredible, moves flawlessly and such." Roy explained, "I can't believe your wife designed yours."

Edward just beamed, "Designed my first leg when we were almost ten, she was tired of seeing the shitty prosthetic other doctors were giving me." Edward said, his voice full of pride.

Roy stopped for a moment, they were standing in front of the entrance to the children's section. "Wait…" Roy said slowly, turning to face Edward. "You're saying that your wife, who was obviously a prodigy, was an engineer basically and you are clearly a well versed scientist."

Edward nodded, "Yeah, what about it?" He asked, not really seeing where Roy was going with this.

"With brains like that," Roy said, "I am terrified to see the brains of the child you both created."

Edward blinked, "You know, Al basically told me the same fucking thing today." Edward said, tone slightly irritated, "Like, what is today, 'remind Edward Elric that he's going to have his hands full for the next fourteen years of his life' day?"

Roy just laughed, "Let's go find our kids." He said, a wide smile spread across his lips.

"Daddy, I thought you were never going to be done!" Annelise whined when she first saw her Dad. She then saw Roy standing next to her Father, "Oh, hi Mr. Roy!" She said with a smile, "Thanks for bringing Daddy back!"

Al chuckled, "That's enough being mean to Daddy." He said to Annelise, who just pouted at him. She then climbed down from the chair, skipping off to where Roman and Lucas were sitting a few feet away. Al turned to face Edward, "I see Roy found you." Al said, noticing Roy standing next to Edward.

Edward nodded, "Yeah, scared the shit out of me at first." Edward said, setting the books down on the table Al was sitting in front of. "Tapped my shoulder when I was nose deep in a book, nearly jumped out of my skin."

Roy chuckled, "I told him I said his names several times before I tapped him, but he was so engrossed in the book he didn't hear me." Roy explained, "He did explain the concept of the book to me though, and I see why he was so engrossed in it."

Al chuckled, "When Ed finds a good book it's hard to get him out of it." Al said, "What books did you find, brother?"

"Physics books, was reading Hawking's theory of everything." Edward explained, "History of the universe, theory of color, shit like that."

Al was looking through the books, Edward had somehow managed to only bring back five books with him which impressed Al. "Tyson, thought you didn't like his work?" Al asked, looking at the cover of Neil DeGrass Tyson's book on the universe.

Edward rolled his eyes, grabbing the book from the stack. "I don't, he's a quack." Edward commented, "Don't know how that book got in the stack, cause I'm not buying it."

Roy laughed, "Are you really calling one of the most popular scientists a quack?" He asked, Edward Elric was someone who proceeded to shock him on a daily basis.

Edward rolled his eyes, "First, the guy is an astrophysicist who hasn't released anything of relevance since like, 2008 when I was like, sixteen." Edward explained, "Second, sure he knows how to research shit and he isn't dumb or anything, but he's not fucking Einstein or Hawking, his books are dull as fuck and his research writings are hella out dated now." Edward explained, "Plus have you ever looked at his twitter, guy is weird as fuck."

Al just rolled his eyes, "Please excuse my brother, he has no tact and likes to critique famous astrophysicists and question their credentials." Al said with a chuckle, "But, as you can tell he is quite fond of Stephen Hawking and Albert Einstein."

"Cause they weren't assholes." Edward commented, "And their research is actually interesting and is still relevant."

Roy just shook his head and smiled, "You are too much." He said, "Where are my boys, they are being far too quiet."

"Oh, they are sitting at the couch by the window." Al explained, pointing to the little reading area that was only a couple feet away from them. It was nestled in the corner of the room, where the kids were just out of hearing range from them. "Looks like Annelise made her way over there too."

"Wonder what they've found." Roy muttered, "I'll be right back." Roy said with a smile, and the Elric Brothers nodded.

When he was just out of range, Al turned to his brother with a smirk on his face. "You two are hitting it off nicely, I see." Al said, "You were gone for awhile."

"What about it?" Edward asked with a raised brow, "He's nice, he understands what I'm going through."

Al was quiet for a minute, "But you haven't been talking about being a widow lately, you've been… talking." Al said slowly, trying not to say something that would set Edward off because he really didn't want to get kicked out of Barnes and Noble again.

"What the hell do you mean we're talking?" Edward asked, giving his younger brother a look, "Of course we've been talking, that's how you communicate with people."

Al just threw his head back in frustration, "Brother, I mean you've been talking about other things aside from your issues." Al said, before sitting back up straight and looking at Edward who stood in front of him. "You've been talking to him about science, and other things, I mean you went to lunch with him yesterday and were gone for almost two hours." Al explained, "All I'm trying to say is I'm glad you met someone who.." Al had to pause, otherwise he would've said something that really would've set Edward off, "Someone who gets you, makes you smile."

Edward was quiet for a minute, thinking over what Al had said. He took a deep breath, letting out a soft sigh. "He makes me feel something, that's for sure." Edward said softly, watching as Roy talked with his boys, and Annelise excitedly showed him a book she had found. "I just don't know if it's something I should be feeling, Al."

Al looked at his brother, and he noticed the small smile that had found its way to Edward's lips as he watched Roy and the kids.

It was a look he hadn't seen on Edward's face since Winry had been alive. It was the look he used to get when he watched Winry and Annelise together.

And Al suddenly understood Edward's cryptic words.

Ed was clearly in over in his head, but in the best way possible.

They ended up spending another hour at the bookstore, before Al had to remind everyone that school was in the morning and it would be best to go home. As Edward checked out, Al said he'd take Annelise to the car, having already bought the book he promised her - and not wanting to see how much money Edward spent at the bookstore. Edward just shook his head and threw Al his car keys, "Thanks for hanging with us," Edward said, turning to Roy who stood behind him in line with Lucas and Roman, "I'm sure you guys had something else you could've done today."

Roy just shook his head, "Nonsense," he said, "We enjoy hanging with Annelise and Al, and I enjoyed poking that brain of yours."

"Annelise is fun!" Roman said quickly, "She likes the same kind of books we do."

"Even though she's like, little." Lucas added.

Edward still didn't really know how to tell the boys apart, but he was noticing some slightly differences in them. Roman was clearly the more dominate twin, speaking up first before his brother would follow. "Well, Annelise likes hanging out with you guys." Edward said, sitting his books down on the counter, reaching for his wallet to pay. "We'll have to arrange a play date so you guys can play together again soon."

Behind him, Edward could hear the boys say something excitedly and all Ed could do was smile. He quickly finished paying for his books, shoving his wallet back in his pocket and reaching to grab his bag from the cashier, "Thanks." He said with a smile to the woman working the register, walking towards the door to wait for Roy.

Roy walked up to the counter, setting his books down on the counter for the cashier. He sent Edward a smile, and Edward felt his cheeks heat up slightly. He paid for the books quickly, before making his way back over to where Edward stood.

They were quiet as they walked outside together, listening to Lucas and Roman rattle on about everything they did with Annelise and how they couldn't wait to read the books they got.

By no surprise, they found they had also parked next to each other. Edward was honestly surprised to see that Roy owned a sleek black Volvo instead of a Mustang. "Thought you'd own a Mustang." Edward said, watching as Roy opened the door and let the boys hop in the backseat.

"I did." Roy said with a smug grin, "But once I found out we were having twins, I realized two car seats would not fit in the backseat so I had to get something bigger." Roy explained, his head half in the car as he helped Lucas buckle up, "SUV makes more sense when I'm usually carting around three kids now since Elysia is often with us too."

Shutting the door once he was done, Roy walked up to Edward who stood at the end of the sidewalk. "I have to say, I didn't picture you owning a Subaru." Roy said with a grin, his eyes stuck on the shiny exterior of Edward's red Subaru Crosstrek.

"You fuckin' judging my car, Mustang?" Edward asked, his tone playful, "You got no room to talk when you're driving a car like the dude from Twilight."

Roy just laughed, "You are unbelievable, comparing me to Edward Cullen solely because we both own an XC60." he replied, smiling from ear to ear. He then coughed slightly, lowering his voice, "Yes, you are exactly my brand of heroin…" Roy said in sultry voice, his best impersonation of Robert Pattinson.

Edward let out a laugh, "That book was so fucking stupid." He said, "You sound nothing like the dude."

Roy just grinned some more, "But Edward," Roy started, using the same sultry tone as he got closer to Edward, "I don't have the strength to stay away from you…" He said, impersonating Robert Pattinson some more.

"Stop it!" Edward said with a wide smile, laughing some more. "You're a horrible actor, please don't try anymore lines from that shitty movie, you're offending the guy who played him."

Roy just laughed, "Hey, you're the one who started this." He said, "Today was fun, thanks for telling me about your research and dealing with my questions."

Edward blushed, "No problem, s'aways fun talking to someone who gets it." He replied, "Should probably let you get home now…"

Roy just smiled, before he leaned in and brushed a stray lock of blonde hair behind Edward's ear - Edward didn't even flinch. "Drive safe, ok?" Roy said softly.

Edward just nodded, his heart thundering in his chest. Their eyes were locked together, and Edward had never noticed how blue Roy's dark eyes were. He wanted to say something, instead of just standing their like an idiot but-

The loud honk of a car horn brought each of them back to reality as they jumped, their gaze turning to Alphonse who sat in the passenger seat of Ed's car and was giving them an annoyed look.

"I'll see you tomorrow." Edward said softly, and Roy nodded. Edward watched for a second as Roy hopped in his car, Roy sent him a smile from the drivers seat before he shut the door and began pulling out of the parking spot.

Ed quickly opened his car door, sliding in the front seat, tossing his bag from Barnes and Noble in the backseat. He could still feel the thundering beats of his heart racing, and he took a deep breath as he rested his forehead on the steering wheel in an attempt to calm himself down.

"You had like, the perfect moment to kiss him." Al started, "But instead you stood their like a fish out of water." Al continued, "You wasted like, ten minutes rambling on about something instead of kissing him."

"What the actual hell, Alphonse?" Edward asked, turning to give his brother a look.

"You are so blind, brother." Al said, shaking his head as he sighed, "He went out of his way to talk to you, then listened to you rattle on about your research for over half an hour, and he's seen your weirdness and still wants to hang out with you." Al explained, "He hung out with you both days this weekend, clearly the guy is into you."

"Shut the fuck up." Edward muttered, before turning the key in the ignition and driving home.
