A/N: Next chapter! Not sure how I feel about this but I will see what you guys think! It's in both Nessie/Jacob's POV.
this fire rising through my being, burning, I'm not used to seeing you
I'm I'm alive, I'm I'm alive, I can feel you all around me
thickening the air I'm breathing, holding on to what I'm feeling
savoring this heart that's healing
all around me - flyleaf (acoustic)
It was around 7am when Nessie had awoken to the sound of her alarm clock. She groaned as she rolled over on to her side, leaning a hand over to press the top of her clock to stop the annoying alarm from ringing.
Begrudgingly Nessie got out of her bed, going into the bathroom to relieve herself of her now full bladder before turning on her shower. Stripping herself of her clothes and waiting for the water to warm she checked the time on her phone that she had placed on the side of the sink, music softly playing.
7:18am, she had to be at work for 8:30, Ness had recently got a part time job at Stanley's diner in town so she could help pay for the bills, as well as art supplies for her classes.
After thoroughly scrubbing her self-clean she left the shower, drying herself as she made her way back into her bedroom. Going through her wardrobe she hastily grabbed her uniform, rolling her eyes as she looked it over; a white low cut, v neck t-shirt with Stanley's wrote in pink on the left side of the shirt and pink high waisted short-shorts and don't even get her started on the shoes, they weren't even shoes! White roller blades, she knew it was a 60's themed diner but she didn't think Jessica, the owner and manager would really take it that far, but she was wrong.
It was like she enjoyed seeing her all female waitresses struggle through their long shifts in their roller blades, sometimes even falling over as they maneuvered around the diner taking orders and bussing tables. She snorted to herself. That's Jessica Stanley for you, an evil witch who gets off on other peoples pain.
Once Nessie was dressed in her uniform, she put on some white converse shoes, dumping her roller blades into her backpack before heading into the kitchen.
"Alice?" She called out. Wondering if Alice was still home, Alice was always up bright and early.
Not getting a reply Ness grabbed her self a glass of OJ and an apple for her breakfast, sitting down onto one of the stools by the kitchen island. Alice must of gone to work already, she thought whilst taking a bite of her apple.
Nessie had a double shift today at the diner, 8:30am to 12pm, then 5pm to 9pm. Not the best shift, but she had planned to call Jacob during her break to see when they can meet again.
Once Ness was finished with her Apple and orange juice, she hopped off the kitchen stool, putting her empty glass into the sink and throwing away the apple core into the bin.
Hastily grabbing her bag from her room as she checks the time 8:07 that gives her just enough time to walk to work and not be late. Rushing out the front door she slammed it shut behind her, hearing the sound of the auto lock click in place as it shut completely closed.
Making her way out of her apartment building she walked hastily through town to work, it was a nice, sunny morning in June, so she hadn't bothered with a coat. She would simply grab one during her break if she needed one.
Once at work she walked straight to the staff room, taking her shoes off, and replacing them for the roller blades in her bag, stuffing them into her locker with her bag before proceeding to clock into work, heaven forbid she clock in a minute late. Jessica would be on her ass like a moth to a flame.
It was about an hour into her shift and the morning rush of workers getting there coffee fix had dwindled. With only a few customers coming in now and again to grab a hot drink on there way to work.
As she leaned against the counter, watching her work colleague serve a gentleman across the room the ring of the door bell caught her attention as a tall, muscular guy walked into the the diner. He had russet coloured skin, probably Native, Ness thought whilst ogling him, biting her lip as she gave him a glance over.
He sat onto one of the high seated stools by the counter, before speaking; his voice deep and husky. "I'd like a coffee, please. Black. No sugar." Something about the way he stared at her with such intensity when he spoke made her shiver slightly.
Tearing her gaze from his, Ness didn't say anything other than nod, placing a mug in front of him and pouring him his coffee. Something about him reminded her of Jacob. Probably because he nailed the tall, dark and handsome look down to a T.
Once she had poured him his coffee she had offered if he wanted anything else, which he declined. She had started to clean the counter top, glancing over at the clock a few times as she did, sighing. 9:54am. Two more hours then she was going to call Jacob.
"So what's your name? You're new aren't you?" The man asked, breaking Nessie from her train of thoughts.
"Oh, um.. I'm Nessie." She replied, smiling shyly as she meet his gaze. "And yes, I'm new here. Are you a regular customer or something?" She asked curious, moving to face him from behind the counter, it was only him and one other customer inside the diner.
"Something like that." He chuckled, taking a sip of his coffee. "I'm Paul." He said, flashing her a flirtatious grin. "I work at the auto garage down the road, so you can say I come here quite often."
So that explains the huge biceps then, Nessie thought.
"Oh really? And I guess you know where I work." She laughed softly, smiling back at him.
Paul and Nessie chatted for awhile longer making small talk whilst he drank his coffee, once he had finished he paid for his drink, watching Ness for awhile as she served other guests and bussing tables as she roller bladed her way around the small diner. He couldn't take his eyes away from her, noting how her uniform hugged her petite but curvy frame.
Making his way to the door to leave he stopped, pausing for a few seconds before he turned back around, making his way over to Nessie where she was bent over a table cleaning it with a table cloth as she tried to reach the far end of it.
"Hey Ness.." He said nervously, shoving his hands into his jean pockets.
Nessie jumped, not hearing him approach her from behind. "Oh, Paul! You scared me." She gushed, holding a hand over her rapidly beating heart.
"Sorry." He chuckled; his eyes looking over her flushed rosy cheeks. "I just wanted to ask if you were free Saturday? There's this bonfire night up at First Beach and I wondered if you'd like to go? As friends of course."
"Oh, uh.." Ness was unsure what to say as he stared at her anxiously waiting for her reply. Should she say yes? I mean he said it was "as friends", but should she be getting involved with a guy right now? She was planning to get knocked up for Jacob, so to speak. After debating internally she thought why not? It couldn't hurt and she had the day off and no plans. "Sure, yes.. I'd love too."
Paul grinned enthusiastically at her. "Great! It's at 7pm, I can pick you up here if you'd like?"
"Yeah, sure. I will see you Saturday then."
After exchanging numbers they parted ways, and Ness went out the back to drink her cup of tea she had made for herself. Going into her locker she pulled out her phone, half past 11. 30 more minutes and she was finished.. for a few hours, anyways. And then she could call Jacob.
It was like Jacob had known she was thinking of him, because suddenly he rang.
Nessie started at the phone for a moment, her heart beating rapidly from nerves.
Answering the phone, she spoke softly, trying to even out her breathing. "Hi, Jacob! I was just thinking about you." She had hastily said sounding slightly breathless, realizing after how that might of sounded to Jacob. Just thinking about you? What the hell, Ness? She internally scolded herself.
"Hey, Nessie. Sorry if I'm interrupting something I just wanted to call you.. To see when you're free to meet up?" Jacob said, his voice rich and husky on the other end of the line.
Nessie and Jacob had arranged to meet at Stanley's once her shift was finished at 12. And Ness could only hope she finished on time so she could get out of these roller blades. Sighing softly to herself Ness checked her reflection in her locker mirror as she put her phone away, she had only put on a little bit of make up this morning and her hair was left in its natural waves.
Thinking her appearance is as good as it's going to get for the time being, she made her way back out front, bringing her now empty tea cup with her to finish the remaining minutes of her shift.
Once Jacob was inside the vintage diner he looked around for Nessie, it was quite busy and Jacob could only guess it had picked up for lunch. Not wanting to bother another member of staff to ask where Nessie was he took a seat at once of the booths, checking the time on his watch as he did. 11:56am. Maybe Nessie was changing at the back, he thought.
Jacob was lost in thoughts, day dreaming for a few seconds or minutes he wasn't sure, when he saw a young girl roller blade past him, coffee in her hand as she did. She was serving one of the tables in front of him, refilling there cup with coffee, laughing softly at something one of the customers had said.
Jacob couldn't help notice the young girls figure and hair, it looked so much like Nessie's. Was it Nessie? He couldn't get a clear view of her face from where she was stood, her back pretty much turned in his direction.
After what felt like forever the young waitress turned in his direction. It was Nessie. Feeling Jacob's gaze Nessie looked over to where he was sat.
"Oh Jacob!" She gushed, rolling over to his table. "Sorry, I didn't see you there." smiling sheepishly at him she continued before Jacob could get a word in, "I'm finishing now, I'm just going to get out of these blades!" And with that she hastily rolled herself away from him and through the staff door. All the while Jacob was staring dumbstruck as he watched her, her hips swaying as she moved around on her roller blades, her short-shorts not leaving much to his imagination.
This was going to be hard he thought, physically and mentally, to keep his thoughts from straying into the gutter and to stop all his blood rushing south. He could only assume it was the lack of sex in his life that made him feel like a horny teenage boy.
Only a few minutes passed when Nessie returned, wearing white trainers instead of her roller blades, two mugs in her hand and a pot of coffee.
"Hi." She said as she sat down opposite Jacob, placing the mugs down on the table, pouring them both a coffee, before grabbing the little sugar packets and covered milk jug from the end of the table to place in front of them. She beamed a heart-warming smile at Jacob.
"Hi.." He chuckled, smiling brightly back at her. "So we meet again."
Nessie laughed at his words, replying. "So we do."
Jacob and Nessie had exchanged casual conversation for a while before they moved onto the surrogacy side of things.
"And your wife doesn't know you're doing this?" Nessie asked, her eyes staring intently at Jacob, one of her brows rising curiously at him.
"No.. well not yet." Jacob replied. "I'm going to tell her, but not right now. Maybe once you actually get.. y'know.." He trailed off, feeling embarrassed, his face heating up. It's a good job he was so tanned; otherwise he was sure his flushed cheeks would make him look like a tomato.
"Pregnant?" Nessie laughed lightly. "No need to be embarrassed about it Jake, It is what it is." She smiled at him before continuing, "What if she doesn't approve? I don't want to go through with this if you end up leaving me when things don't go to plan." Ness frowned to herself at the thought.
Noticing the slight look of distress on Nessie's face Jacob was quick to reassure her. "No, Ness.. I wouldn't do that." He placed a warm hand gently over Nessie's, which was resting on the table in a comforting manner. "Even if she doesn't approve I still want to go through with this. I want to be a dad, Ness. Please.." Jacob's voice had become thick with emotion as he looked at Ness; right now she was his only chance at parent-hood.
Nessie sighed softly; her gaze meeting Jacob's as she placed her free hand over the one Jacob had placed on top of her other hand, smiling slightly at him. "Ok… I'll do it. As long as you promise to tell Irina as soon as possible once I'm pregnant with your child."
Jacob grinned brightly at her, his face lighting up like a kid on Christmas day. "Deal. I promise Ness… Thank you, thank you." He gushed ecstatically. He was going to be a dad!
"But on one condition." Nessie spoke, breaking Jacob out of his happy daze.
"But?" he pried, confused as to what her request might be.
"I want some time before we actually do it, I want to get to know you a little more, if that's ok with you? Nessie smiled shyly at Jake, looking down at there hands on the table as she wait for him to respond.
"Ok, that seems fair.." Jacob smiled reassuringly at her; giving her hand he still had a hold of a gentle squeeze. "So once you feel you know me enough over the next few weeks you will go through with it?" He asked, confirming it with her.
"Yes" Ness nodded. "Give me a week or two to get used to the idea of it all and get to know you in the process and then, we'll do it."
Jacob and Nessie had continued talking for a few more hours, asking various questions to get to know each other, Ness had also asked what Irina was like and she couldn't help but feel slightly jealous. She sounded perfect; she had a nice office job in town and she was married to Jacob, the way he spoke of his wife made Ness burn with jealously, if only her ex Nahuel had spoken of her with such adoration, but he only seemed to care about the physical side of there relationship.
Jacob had even shown Nessie a picture of his wife on his phone. She was flawless, pretty much. You could tell she prided her physical appearance.
It was close to 3pm when Nessie and Jacob had decided to end their conversation thanks to Nessie's stomach rumbling from hunger and they had promised to call or text each other when they were free during the week.
Once Jacob arrived home he was quick to call his sister and dad, telling them it would only be a matter of weeks until Nessie would proceed with the surrogacy.
It was around 6:30pm when his wife had strolled into there home in La Push, complaining that she had a long and stressful day. They ate there dinner in the kitchen in pretty much silence, she hadn't asked Jacob how his day was and when he had asked her about her day it was more complaints about her work.
After doing the dishes and finishing off the last pieces of paper work that needed to be done for work the next day, Jacob got into bed, laying next to his wife who was already fast asleep. Jacob had made advances to her before she got into bed but she had all but wavered him off her, saying she wasn't in the mood.
Tearing his gaze from his wife's sleeping form, he rolled over onto his side facing the opposite way on the bed, reaching over to turn the desk light off before closing his eyes to drift off into sleep.
A/N: So Nessie was the girl Paul couldn't shut up about! Uh-oh, let's hope Jacob doesn't get jealous at there friendship ;)
